Chapter 4

The Past is Present

As they ran through the corridors onto the grounds of the Sha-Lem estate, the group took cover in the estate’s meditation garden, hiding in bushes and taking the stealth route to the back gates. While they were quietly trying to evade their hostile family members, Julian quickly caught the group up on how he heard of Galen and why he was helping them.

“Ever since the Azure Flux incident, and the poker tournament in Las Vegas on Earth, Cailus has been ramping up his weapons manufacturing businesses at C.A.I. Industries. He has even gone so far as to start funding R&D for not just power-hungry militants and terrorists, but also for his personal projects like the bio-control chips. I was here over the last two weeks, and the actions I’ve noticed that Cailus has taken have been very… Problematic. He has not just implanted Galen and Zhal’s families, but he’s also implanted Zutan and the senior officers of the town guard!”

As they went through the back gates, they quickly began to run, following Julian into an abandoned house where they hid and made themselves scarce from the village’s people.

“So, he’s implanted the guard, too?” Uniko sighed. “This is going to make it more difficult for us to escape the town.”

“At this rate, we may not even be able to escape if the guard has been infiltrated.” Galen said. “Zutan and the newcomers in the guard are nearly as strong as me, and if the whole town is looking for us, it is going to be hard to escape notice.”

Julian peeked out the window, remotely piloting his Dodge Viper up to the side of the abandoned house. Via a holographic control link in his watch.

“Any suggestions?” Silva asked. “I assume Julian here has a plan?”

“I may be able to get a few of you out of here without notice,” Julian explained. “My car can only seat four passengers, but I can get the ones I take back to your master, Mr. Foxmorre, and then he and the rest of his allies can somehow arrange a rescue for the rest of you. Until then, the rest of you guys need to remain hidden and out of sight.”

“Simple enough,” Luso said, and quickly cast a spell on the house. “The spell I just put up is an illusion spell that will make us invisible in here, so all we have to do is wait out the guard. Then, we either can wait for Julian to get help, or we can make a break for it on our own. The question is, who goes and who stays?”

Zhal looked over to Tommy. “I want you to be one of the ones to go with Julian,” Zhal said.

“But Zhal!” Tommy protested. “What if Cailus catches you! He will hurt you, torture you…”

“Shhh, it will be okay, Tommy.” Zhal reassured, wiping away some tears from Tommy’s now wet eyes. “We can hold out here as long as we need. I just don’t want you getting hurt. I love you too much for that. Trust me, we will be okay, and we will get through this.”

Tommy stifled back a sob, and nodded.

“So, who else goes?” Zhal asked.

Galen turned to Silva. “You’re going too,”

“I won’t argue with you, big brother,” Silva said. “Besides, if you’re thinking what I’m thinking, I’ll be more useful on the outside,”

Galen nodded. “I think that’s all we can spare,” He said to Julian.

“Alright,” Julian said. “The car’s right outside the back door, let’s go! Just hold on until we get back!”

“Will do,” Galen said.

With that, Julian, Silva, and Tommy made a break for the car and quickly got in. Once inside the car, Julian activated the Transporter Computer in the Viper, and engaged his car’s Getaway mode. This was an enhanced version of the standard Escape mode, only in the case of Julian’s viper, it powered up a structural integrity reinforcement field around the car so it could ram through roadblocks and obstacles without taking any damage. Julian was not taking any chances.

Once the car was in the desired mode, and all the settings locked in, Julian drove carefully and slowly through the town of Mel’Andrea, hoping not to attract the attention of the guard. Thankfully, the guard didn’t notice them until the car was outside of the main gate. At that point, Julian floored the accelerator, the Viper flying through the gears as Julian sped off towards Egad’s Castle!
