HELLOOOO - finally, I've uploaded something! These characters are a part of a larger story that I'm going to be uploading here hopefully soon! The one named Kibs (short for 'Kibbles') is a Beagle dog! The one name Mari (short for 'Marissa') is a Fennec Fox! They're both wondering in the forest looking for something when the two strike a conversation about Kibs love interest - this story is more meant to give you an idea of who these characters are and not necessarily tell you a "story", especially considering that most of this is just a conversation. I hope you don't mind!

"You aren't serious."

Kibs sighed. "I thought you already knew?"

She scoffed. "Uh, I did - but I never thought you'd actually want to act on it."

"What are you talking about? You're the one who-"

"I didn't mean him, Kibbles."

Kibs made a face. "Why don't you like him?!"

"I just- he's a Golden Retriever, Kibs."

Kibs eyes looked left and right. "...So?"

"You're a beagle - maybe try dating... oh, I don't know - someone your size?"

Kibs rolled his eyes and walked past her. "You act like we're gonna be making babies, or something."

Mari stood and followed behind him. "Just because you can't make babies doesn't mean you two can't-"

"I know - oh my God - I know."

"Okay so then if you know why continue?"

"Mari - love isn't all about sex. I like him for who he is."

"A violent, empty headed social outcast who steals you away from everyone 24/7?"

Kibs gave her a look. "Oh, so you do have a problem with him?"

"No. I'm just saying that there are other animals out there who are more fit for someone like you. You wouldn't be to be able to maintain it with him if you tried, Kibs - and sooner or later, problems are going to surface in the relationship that neither of you are going to know how to fix."

"And since when were you an expert in regards relationships?"

"I'm an expert in regards to you. And, honestly - I don't even think you should be thinking about 'dating' right now."

Kibs stopped, Mari doing the same. He stared at her. "What happened to you telling me to 'put myself out there'?"

"Yeah, well, that was before I knew your taste in dogs."

He forced out a breath through his nose, continuing their walk. "Thanks for your faith in in my judgement," he said sarcastically, glancing left and right on their trail, looking for something.

Mari followed his eyes as they continued. "You gonna tell me why we're out here now?"

He let out a forced laugh. "No. I don't think you'll like what we're doing out here."

"Bitch, you better tell me."

"No. You're literally going to stop me from doing it."

She blinked. "...Does it have something to do with him?"

He went silent.

Mari cursed under her breath. "Kibs - what are we doing?"

Kibs let out a gasp, his tail starting up in a wag as he noticed something off in the distance to his right. "There!" He exclaimed, running off into the trees.

Mari paused, furrowing her brows. "There what?" She asked, lifting her head as to not lose sight of him.

Kibs didn't go very far - he leaned down and plucked something from the ground, bouncing back to Mari happily.

Mari stared at him, shaking her head. "Are you kidding me?" She asked him as she looked down at the dandelion held in his maw.

Kibs gave her a wide smile, tail wagging. "Ish perfect foh 'em, isn't it?" He asked, beaming.

Mari gave him a blank stare. "You really want to hear what I have to say?"

Kibs' smile faded. "...No." He turned away from her. "I don't know why I ask you anything, ever."

"Neither do I," she said with an eye roll, "because clearly you never care enough to actually listen."

"I do care - all your advice is just-"

"Not what you want to hear?"

He went silent again.

Mari shook her head. "I just hope you don't get yourself hurt, Kibs."

He glanced at her. "...I won't."

"You don't know that."

"...But you do?"

It was her turn to go quiet now. "...No."

"Okay, so... let me find out. Please, Mari. How will I ever know if I don't try it with him?"

"You..." she thought she had something to say in retort, but her words fell short. Her left ear twitched. "Whatever, Kibs. Do what you want. But if you want my approval, sorry, you're not getting it."

"...But you're okay with me trying it out with him?"

"I don't care. I told you what I needed to, and if you still want to try and get with this dog, that's on you."

The two walked in silence for a moment; Kibs lowered his head, his ears lowering as well. Mari glanced at him, her face softening. She took a breath, licking her lips. "You mean a lot to me, Kibs. That's the only reason I'm saying all of this."

"...I know."

"And I just don't want you to get hurt."

"I know."

"And I want you to realize and understand that you deserve better."

Kibs didn't respond to that.

"...Just," she continued, "don't get carried away. Okay?"

He looked back at her, a solemn look in his eyes. "...Okay."

"And when things do get bad - remember - you're stuck with me. And I'll be here, waiting - ready here to tell you how right I was."

Kibs smiled. "Whatever you say, Mari."

"You say that now, but watch. I give it a week."

He scoffed. "A week? Are you serious?"

"No, no... you're right - too long. I say three days."

"WHAT?!" He yelled with a laugh. "Literally what could happen in three days time that would warrant us breaking up?"

"A lot of things," she continued as the two walked off, their voices growing more and more distant.

"Like what?" Kibs asked back as they stepped into the trees.

"Well... he'll probably realize just how annoying you are and will probably-" their voices cut off as they vanished from sight, butterflies fluttering in the trees overhead.
