PART: ONE HUNDRED & FORTY SIX.

L ooking down at the screen on her laptop, Ahsoka watched the slow rotation of the stylised red ‘R’ on the screen, her visage remained devoid of emotion her large powerful hand clenched tightly into fists as she waited remote meeting with her superior to begin. She could feel the icy chill of anxiety run through her body but kept it hidden even from her eyes; she could ill afford to show any weakness from the regional director. Most members of Team Rocket could go their entire careers without even having any direct contact with someone so high up on the food chain, those who do find it to be often to be one of two things, they have somehow made an extremely momentously screw up, to discuss events of some highly classified project. The latter of two being her recent interactions with the director, but what could it be? Had her deceit about Jack’s pokémon having their minds wiped of the motel incident involving the Phantom? Maybe it was her limited success in keeping Jack from trouble…No, she needed focus, if it had been anything bad things would have been handled differently rather than a meeting from some as high up as the director of this region.

Taking a slow deep breath, she looked around the cramped hotel room, it along with the two rooms either side along with the three rooms opposite had all been rented especially for this meeting. It was too costly let alone elaborate for a termination attempt, beside which even though the six rooms where at the far end of the hallway to the floor they were on, the fact that the other rooms most likely contained normal guests making a clean execution neigh on improbable.

“Get a grip, you’re not some rookie”

Ahsoka chided herself, running her eyes around the room she took in the barren décor. Other that the chair and a small table that she sat at, there was only a mini fridge; wall mounted tv; bed; wardrobe as well as a chest of draws. There were only two ways out of the room’ two that where of absolutely no use what so ever as an escape route, the window behind drawn curtains, this however while big enough to allow her to fit through was impractical. She was too far up to attempt a controlled fall, as for free climbing down the building; that would have rendered her way to easy a target, she really did not fancy sporting a hole in the head as a new look. This left the two doors, one leading into the bathroom which really did not help at all, the other was the only way in or out of the hotel room, as such only a fool would believe it to be left unguarded. Once more the dark-skinned woman forced such thoughts from her mind, she needed to focus, she was not some wet behind the ears amateur. Taking a long deep breath Ahsoka exhaled it slowly as she steeled herself in readiness for the director to make contact. A ping sound came from the laptops built in speakers signalling someone had joined the encrypted private chat, the screen flashed from black to the familiar silhouette of the director behind their desk.

“Hello, Daughter”

The man spoke using the assigned code name while addressing her.

“After considerable evaluation of the subject, it has been concluded the subject is too chaotic to be directly controlled, in the way we might other resources, however the subject’s usefulness is still too great to simply dispose of. I will be honest with you daughter; we have contemplated placing the subject into the control of another handler…”

The pause was drawn out deliberately she knew this tactic well, but even being aware of it did not lessen its effects upon her as dread crept into the back of her mind.

**“However, it was ultimately concluded if a new handler was appointed; they may drive the subject away or even come into direct conflict, so it has been decided you will retain the position of the subject’s handler, you will maintain using a bond as way of manipulation. After all, while chaos just like nature can be guided it cannot be controlled.

Something the failed projects Kanto division’s project, as well as the failed project of another organisation in the Unova region ultimately discovered, every organisation spanning back to ancient times that have tried, all ended in disaster. **** Let the other regional divisions continue their delusions of harnessing powers beyond their compression, here in the Anthro region we will not make that folly, it is clear there are too many factors in play to act so impulsively, factors like the pokémon rangers; the unknown pokémon dubbed the phantom, that has taken a keen interest in the subject. As well the subjects own pokémon team, no it would be folly to even believe there could be any control in play…But, you can direct the subject, guide the subject to where we want or need the subject to be or do, that is something that can done.”**

The director noted in a commanding tone.

“I understand Father, might I speak freely sir?”

Ahsoka replied maintaining her outer cold professional demeanour, while inside she felt a sense of immense of relief.

“You may, though choose your words most carefully.”

Came a stern response to her request, Ahsoka contemplated this for a few brief moments as she collected her thoughts before responding to her superior.

“Father, as you are aware the subject has been recovering from his initiation to the club, the subject’s recovery has been slow, more so than normal. As such, it may be prudent to drug the subject for transport as well as during medical examination.** The type of impact trauma to the subject’s body endured; during the said initiation, could have caused anything from spinal contusions to splitting of his inner sphincter, that’s not including the possible degrees of internal bruising too.”**

Ahsoka asked, then for longer than Ahsoka though she could bare the director remained silent before speaking.

“I have studied the footage, I agree…no human body could handle that level of prolonged abuse with out some damage. The more I think of it the more prudent this course of action may well be, at the very least we can implant a tracking chip into the subject. Very well Daughter, do you require anything to facilitate this on your end?”

Hearing the shadow cloaked man’s words, the she giant slowly let out the breath she hadn’t realised she had been holding.

“I have the means to initially put the subject under, I may require several enforce teams ready to step in, should the subjects pokémon refuse to be compliant. Appropriate transport with medical team would be necessary too, Father.”

The she giant mused as she subconsciously began tapping the edge of the laptop, once finished the director’s silhouette could be seen leaning over to speak to someone of screen. She could not hear what was being said though she felt sure it was nothing of consequence.

“Then you shall have those resources, nearby teams have been recently reinforced, so this should not be a problem. I should not need to press the importance of convincing the subjects pokémon to comply, from the available intel we have, terminating his team will prove costly in both pokémon resources and manpower.”

The director spoke, Ahsoka found herself quietly agreeing with his opinion. Jack’s team was by no means an easy mark to take down, confined areas like inside the hotel or the built-up area of the city always made long ranged covert attacks implausible at best. Though going toe to toe would be utter folly without sheer weight of numbers, however doing so was just a complete waste of manpower.

“Father, I believe some form of incentive would greatly assist in convincing subjects pokémon that we only seek to help their trainer, if this can be done, they would not care if we where some planet consuming entity, just as long as we are no threat to the subject.”

Listening to her words, the director could be seen considering this.

“So…we bribe them, while additionally allowing them to watch any and all procedures in regards to diagnosing and treating the subject. I will say that is an unprecedented approach, though it has merit especially with that particular ragtag disorderly group of pokémon. Very well, do what you can to appeal to them though do not offer something we cannot or rather would not be prepared to offer them.”

The shadow cloaked man spoke, his voice stern as though emphasising the last part of his words before the screen going black as the meeting came to an end. Ahsoka sat there at the table silent her eyes fixed on the screen, only now with the secure call with her superior did she allow the anxiety that had been building within her to bubble to the surface. Her legs felt like rubber as she shakily got to her feet and headed over to the mini-fridge, a feint stretched her lips as she found it fully stocked.

“thank arceus”

She whispered grabbing several of the tiny bottles of gala scotch, from the looks of each she doubted there was barely a couple of mouthfuls in each, not that she cared. It’d be enough to settle her nerves and that was all that really mattered, with a grunt she twisted the caps off and tipped her head back as she downed each in one gulp. The amber liquid felt good easing down her gullet filling the she-giant with a sense of warmth that banished the dread she had been feeling.

“Okay, time to get to work”

Ahsoka grunted tossing the empty bottles into the small straw waste bin nearby.
