This story's prompt was: Small aliens in a lab. Brave explorers crash land in an unknown planet.

Log Entry 1:

We have crash-landed on some alien planet. While trying to observe the huge planet, our ship was pulled in by an unknown force, as if the planet's gravity suddenly intensified. Alarms were soon blaring, and a team of fully covered giants came to grab our ship and crew. An attempt was made to fire on them, but our weapons proved not to be able to affect them in any way. The ship was our only lifeline, so I ordered the crew to try to escape, but our engines were too badly damaged. This would mark the start of our captivity, as we were soon put in some kind of glass case. Our weapons seemed to not be able to penetrate it either. I discussed with the crew the best course of action, and the first priority was to see to the ship. Maybe we should count ourselves lucky that they let us keep it, since they were able to pick it up and move it without any effort at all. The ship's systems have enough power to support us for many lifetimes. It was mostly the hull and engines that were damaged in the crash, so we don't have to worry about food, shelter, or if the air itself is toxic. I try to stay positive, with all these lives on the line.

Log Entry 9:

Repairs are very slow, as we can't use anything outside the ship for them. Our chances of flying out of here are very slim, as we leaked a lot of fuel when we crashed. Our captors spend a lot of time trying to observe us. At almost any time of day, we can see someone hovering over us. This suggests they are intelligent, just curious about what we are. Whatever they are, they seem to be similar to us in many ways, just much bigger. Like some long-lost relatives. We were meant to scout out this area of space and report back. It would be the find of the century if we were able to go back. All attempts to call the nearest star base have failed. Something is blocking the signal. I don't want to assume the worst yet. It could be something about this planet or that they are doing it accidentally. They have been trying to feed us, but with the ship still able to synthesize food, we decided it wasn't wise to take the risk. I doubt they would keep us alive this long if the intent was to poison us. Yet I have to wonder: What is the point of all this for them? They aren't a part of the Alliance of Species, so we have to just trust that they share enough with our conduct to stay peaceful. Not a comforting thought, but they also seemed to have no ships in orbit. That most likely means if we did find a way out, they had no way to pursue us.

Log Entry 80:

It has been a few months. They stopped trying to feed us weeks ago after seeing that we weren't taking. A rescue team should have been dispatched by now, according to Alliance guidelines. It has been over a few days since our last check-in. It would be very hard for us to be found on this huge planet, tucked away in some kind of lab. Even on the surface, it would be a hard task. We have started work on trying to improve our weapons enough to make an opening. The plan is kind of stalled after that step. We did the best we could with repairs, but without a new fuel source, it's not going very far. Long-range scans have started to see if we can use anything nearby. It is the hope that some kind of chemical could be used as a substitute. We are also working on trying to communicate with our captors to see if we can negotiate with them at all. The current offer would be my cooperation in exchange for letting the rest of the crew go. I hope it doesn't come to that, but it would be the price I'm willing to pay for their safety. It also puts me at a much higher chance of being rescued if they learn how to get out of there. It makes sense for us, but they don't really have a reason to agree to it, assuming they can understand us in the first place.

Log Entry 120:

Both plans are ready to go. We found something we can use and will try talking with them before we try our escape. We have a backup in case that doesn't go well. We can only hope it does because if we are forced to escape, we really won't get a second chance if we fail. The order was given, and we will soon see if they have some way to respond.

Log Entry 121.1:

No response from them, so we most assume one of a few options: 1. They didn't get it. 2: They did get it but couldn't reply or understand. 3: They did get it, but have no interest in talking with us. No matter the truth, we are going to try to break out tonight. Even with them showing no signs of aggression, just waiting around for this long is taking a toll on the crew's mental state. I included in that. As I lay in bed, arms around a crewmate, I couldn't help but feel here at the moment, worrying about everything that could go wrong. It doesn't help that I have a habit of making entries hands-free. In a few hours we will try to break out, harvest something we can use as fuel, and fly outside to leave the planet. I look over to the man I faced the unknown with so many times. Trying to get as much sleep as he can before the mission. I knew I had to see this through for both of our sakes.

Log Entry 121.2:

Everything has worked so far. The glass was cut, and we were able to use jet boosters to have the crew harvest fuel. In just a few moments, we should have enough to get out of here. We just need to sneak around the halls and find an exit. Our ship's engine was designed to run as quietly as possible to avoid disturbing native wildlife. This might be the only time I am truly thankful for that feature.

Log Entry 121.3:

As we weave low in the halls, it is only now that I truly see the scale of the aliens. Each one is a landmass in their own right. Low and to the side. We have to stay there to avoid the giant paws stepping around. There is enough space for us, but getting caught would most likely be the end of us. I doubt our ship is much faster than their running speed in this state. We finally come up to what seems to be the exit. One final boost, and we are out of there! We leave the planet as fast as we can. We soon run out of this inefficient fuel and are adrift in space. We send out an SOS and get a response.

Log Entry 130:

It has been over a week since we got back to safety. I gave my report on what happened, and the Alliance decided to ban space travel to the area while they decide what to do about it. We were giving some vacation leave to allow us to recharge after what happened. I gave them no arguments, as I felt some time off would do us all some good. This will be-

"Still writing entries?" A voice says from behind me.

"Yeah, just one last one, then we can focus on ourselves." I say as I turn to him. He comes close, and we kiss.

"Just remember this is a vacation for both of us. Time to put down the work and have some fun."

I smile as he grabs me by the hand and pulls me out of the hotel room.
