Micro May Day 10: Plundered
This story's prompt was: Size as currency with pirates. A history lesson gets a surprise.
"Alright, class, it's time for the lesson." The professor starts. The murmuring of the room starts to quiet down. "Today we will be learning all about a very real threat in our world: The Modahere Pirates. While most pirates would do things like steal valuables. These, however, tend to focus on using living resources. Not kidnapping, but using Size Harvesters."
Someone raises their hand, and I turn to them like everyone else did. "I have a question: Why would they do that instead?"
The professor nods and answers. "Well, taking the size from someone is very profitable. While it isn't intended to be used this way, a black market for the essence has appeared over the years after it was made. After taking someone's size, there is not really much they can do to retaliate."
"I see, thank you."
"Of course, that is what I'm here for. We happen to live in one of the towns they are known to frequent. However, the navy is always on close watch for them. They are, however, very crafty, and you should be careful all the same. Now for the next-"
Soon the wall is blown open and a band of pirates comes in. "Alright! It's a simple plunder job! Get everything you can." One of them shouts. Everyone starts running and screaming in a panic as the pirates start using Size Harvesters on everyone.
Everyone other than the professor.
"Couldn't you have waited a little longer? I was almost done." The professor says, annoyed.
"Sorry captain, we couldn't wait any longer."
I hide under a table as I hear it all. The professor is the captain of the Modahere Pirates! I try to sneak out, quietly crawling until I bump into a fat rat man who was a pirate. He gives me a grin before hitting me with the Size Harvester. I start shrinking smaller and smaller while the device he is holding fills up with a greenish goo that represents my stolen size.
After getting most of the class, they start to leave. "Thank you for being such a great class!" The captain calls out before laughing and leaving.
I was wondering where that left me. Or if this class even counted for anything.
