Interlude 3: The Ones Above
A figure wearing a dark crimson cloak glided it´s hands over a detailed ornate map of the world which sat upon a stone table with elaborate artistic carvings of runes, arts depicting great heroic deeds, fine crafts and more. On the map were miniatures of villages, towns and alongside there were several miniatures depicting figures in different colours who moved about the map on their own. “All seems normal.”: said the cloaked figure.
A tall figure with a large scabbard on his back entered the place, walking pass many others of his kin who were discussing how the mortals throughout their life are “everchanging”, they didn’t pay attention to him for they were of the same kin and felt his presence as of their own, even though his decision that altered his place in this very realm was an oddity to them.
Then a tall figure entered the hall, disturbing the cloaked one’s focus. The crimson cloak then looked up upon the tall figure and smiled: “Ah, it is good to see you again, even if you chose to live with the mortals.” The tall one chuckled: “I suppose I am more at my place among them then I was ever here. Anything special happening in the world outside my perception, friend?”
“Nothing much is happening, as you can see...” the crimson cloak abruptly stopped and stared at the map, something caught his eye, something that wasn’t there before. Something…unexpected. “This…is bad.”: he said. “Hmm, what is?” asked the blade master. The crimson faintly pointed his finger at the map and said with a shaky voice: “The Grey Piece.” A grey coloured piece depicting a hooded figure on top of a base like a playing piece was situated in the capital city of Lenbrough. The blade master matched his friends gaze and looked at the grey piece but not with fear, but with intrigue.
“Been a while since I saw one of these, what do we know of them?” asked the blade master. The crimson figure massaged temples of his head and said: “I don’t sense anything, no past. Nothing. A blank. That´s not good.” His voice started to shake and started to panic a bit.: “It can be a loose cannon or some kind of firebrand, a bringer of chaos and destruction. It could even be-“ “Nah,”: blade master interrupted him. “It´s just feels like a small fry, just someone who will make a great deed.” But then blade master´s eyes took a greater interest in the Grey Piece and said with a whisper: “Or an opportunity.”
The crimson hooded one perception didn’t miss what the blade master whispered: “Don’t get any ideas! This must be brought to the council immediately, this piece has no influence or alliance. If he would get up to no good it would spell disaster for all of us.” Blade master simply smiled: “Have a little faith, I am sure it will turn out well. And let´s not forget, I chose to leave this realm, like I never was here. I still have to see some old friends around here. Goodbye my friend, see you soon.” He turned around and left the hall.
“Farewell for now.”: muttered the crimson one, then his gaze turned back to the Grey Piece. He tried again to “sense” it, find anything of use but again it was nothing. Now he was wondering if he should go and rally the others or maybe later. “Who should know it first?”: he wondered and then he came to conclusion:” The Hammerer should, I must speak with him immediately.”
