Micro May Day 23: Cost of Convenience
Size loss portals in the bedroom. A tale about the cost of convenience
Picture this if you would, dear reader: A way to connect any two points instantly. The catch? Every time you would travel via this portal, you would permanently lose some mass. Would you still use it even once? This is a story about one man and his addiction to convenience. His real name? Not important; let's call him Johnathan Jones.
Our tale starts in his own bedroom as he is sleeping, a small man already 5 inches tall. The once familiar space is now towering and imposing as he sleeps on his pillow that supports his weight. He gets up and stretches before using more portals to get around his room. Why not? He couldn't navigate his own room anymore. A few more fractions of an inch couldn't hurt, surely.
By the time he was done, he lost around half an inch. He long accepted that this would be the price he would pay for this awesome power. In and out, he would sometimes go for something he needed, other times just for fun.
He headed over to a friend's house, only two inches tall in their bedroom. He was walking around with headphones on, cleaning his room. Johnathan waved and called out to the big meerkat, but with no responses other than singing to himself. He was walking over to where he was, his giant foot about to step on him.
Of course, Johnathan did what he was best at: teleporting away. He would be avoiding his friend for a few minutes. Until Johnathan was nothing more than a speck, not much larger than a crumb under his bed. When he tried to teleport home, he found he could no longer do it. Trapped on his friend's floor with no real hope of getting in contact.
So end our little cautionary tale. I hope you enjoyed our little presentation.
