Vitani reflects on her relationships since joining Simba's pride and questions what love means to her. Tiff helps her find out ...

Another one shot that firs in with the rest of my TLK stories.

I started writing this one nearly 2 and a half years ago and now it's finally finished.

Vitani was alone. She sat on a mesa overlooking the border between the pridelands and the outlands. There was a lot more life in the Outlands these days. While the scenery was still barren and desolate, Vitani could see animals going about their daily lives. The hyena cubs were running about playing with the jackal pups while their parents watched over them, and a committee of vultures circled overhead. Not so long ago this would have been cause for alarm in the pridelands, but since the fall of Scar, Jasari had taken over control of the outlands and Vitani had become the leader of the lion guard in the pridelands. She would often come here when her duties with the guard were over for the day. Sometimes to think, and other times when she needed to be alone. It was quiet here, private, not too many pridelanders came out this far and because of that the guard didn’t really come out this way too often either. She was still adjusting to life in the pridelands and the pridelanders were still getting used to her and her team of lionesses as the new lion guard. It had been a few months since she had taken over from Kion and he had left to return to the Tree of Life and in that time the pridelanders had mostly warmed up to her. Her assisting in the defeat of Zira had certainly helped and since then Vitani had done her best to keep the pridelands safe.[a][b] In that time she had tried to integrate more with the other lions of the pridelands. Kiara had accepted her almost immediately and had become one of her closest friends. Kiara’s friends Tiifu and Zuri had taken a little longer but had still warmed to her faster than most of the other pridelanders. About a month after they had joined Simba’s pride Tazama had told Vitani that one of Kiara’s friends had been paying her a bit more attention than was strictly necessary. Vitani had quickly figured out that it was Tiifu who’d been watching her. This led to Vitani paying Tiifu a bit more attention in return to try and figure out why Tiifu was so interested in her. She learned quite a bit from her observations, Tiifu was sometimes quiet, somewhat shy and seemed to care a bit too much about what others thought about her. She also spent a worrying amount of time with the annoying zebra who kept getting his head stuck in things. Vitani found that was beginning to take a liking to the other lioness, though she wasn’t sure what it was about her she liked.[c][d] Still, when she thought about Tiifu she could definitely feel something, it was different to how she felt about Kiara despite their closeness, but she couldn’t quite put her paw on what it was. She did know she liked being around Tiifu and as such had been trying to get to know the other lioness better for a while now[e]. These feelings both intrigued her and scared her at the same time. Vitani had never been close with another lion, at least not in the same way Kovu was with Kiara. She wondered if these feelings were the same as what Kiara and Kove felt for each other. There was something about Tiifu that she found alluring and she wanted to explore that further. Today she sat thinking. Earlier in the afternoon she had gone to speak with Tiifu. Lately every time she tried to talk with her Vitani had made a fool of herself. Today’s conversation was no different, it had taken Vitani some time to work up the courage to speak to Tiifu and then it had been infuriatingly difficult to find her when she was by herself. It was rare to find her without her friend Zure, the pair seemed to be attached at the hip.uri was pleasant enough, but she was even more vain than Tiifu, and Vitani really didn’t have time for that. By the time she found Tiifu alone, Vitani was so anxious she barely knew what to say. “Hi, Tiifu.” Vitani wore her least threatening smile at the other lioness. Tiifu, startled at Vitani’s approach, turned to face the other and smiled back. While Vitani’s smile was obviously very forced, Tiifu’s was much more genuine. “Oh… Hey, Vitani. What’s up?” Tiifu’s voice was friendly enough but Vitani saw her eyes dart to the side. “Are you by yourself?” she asked. “Yep, just me, by myself, no guard. I was just coming by to check you out.” Vitani cringed inwardly. “To check up on you, make sure you were good, that nothing was wrong or you needed help with anything.” She added quickly. It wasn’t going well, she had started to ramble, so she stopped talking and just smiled at the other lioness. Her eyes darted from side to side, trying desperately not to look the other lioness in the face. “Oh. Everything’s fine, thanks.” Tiifu responded, smiling back at Vitani. “How’re you?” Vitani forced herself to look Tiifu in the eyes. “I’m fine, thanks.” Silence fell between them and hung for a long moment. Vitani remained still, unmoving, goofy smile plastered on her face until her jaw began to ache and her eyes stung from not blinking. “Well, you know where to find me if you want me err need me, I mean the guard, need the guard for anything.” Vitani finally said after an embarrassingly long time. Before Tiifu had a chance to respond she turned and started walking away. Despite being mostly accepted by the pridelanders, there were still a few holdouts who would never fully trust her or the other lionesses of her guard. She was beginning to think Tiifu was one of those holdouts. Vitani had tried to look as friendly as possible, she made sure not to show too much fang when she smiled, made sure her claws were fully sheathed[f][g], but something was clearly not working. Every time she had tried to speak to Tiifu she would stumble over her words then grin at her like an idiot. Tiifu was always polite and seemed friendly, but Vitani could tell she was uncomfortable. After that disastrous encounter, Vitani has scurried off to her spot overlooking the outlands to think. She mentally kicked herself. She never had this much trouble hooking up back in the outlands. Things were a lot simpler back then. If she was horny she’d find someone she liked the look of and ask for sex. She would either end up getting laid or she would get a paw to the face, sometimes both. One way or the other it would cure her arousal. This led to her first realisation, she didn’t just want to have sex with Tiifu, she actually liked her. It was an unfamiliar feeling for her, before she never really had time for relationships. Survival was always at the forefront of her mind. That and the great revenge plan. She thought on that for a while. Was she even capable of having a relationship with someone that wasn’t based around pure sex? She knew she had feelings for Tiifu, was this what… love felt like? She knew nothing about being in a relationship, about what it was to love someone. Even the word felt foreign to her. Left her with a weird taste in her mouth. She didn’t know what it was like being in love with someone, she had never been in love with anyone before so she had no frame of reference. She thought again about her brother. They’d had much the same upbringing, if anything Zira had been even stricter with him. And yet, he had still been able to fall in love with Kiara. Could she really be falling in love with Tiifu?[h][i] She didn’t have this trouble talking to anyone else. What she did know was she liked Tiifu, and she desperately wanted Tiifu to like her back. “Okay, Vitani,” she said out loud to herself, “we can work this one out. We’ve never let anything get in the way of getting what we wanted before, so why start now?” and then more quietly, “I also don’t usually talk to myself like this, either.” “What do we know? We lo… Like Tiifu. We lov… We might be in love with Tiifu.” Saying this out loud gave her pause, made it more real. She could feel herself starting to panic. “Okay, back up, before we start throwing the L word around. Do we want to bang Tiifu? Of course, she’s really hot!” This was better, sex was familiar, she could deal with sex. Sex gave her something to anchor to, something she could build on. “Okay, what else do we know? We enjoy spending time with her, we want to get to know her better.[j][k]” This was working, she was less panicked now. “So, we like her and want to spend more time with her. Why?” She asked herself. “What do we like about her? Well, she’s really hot.” She repeated, “we’ve already covered that. What else?” Vitani thought back on all the conversations she’d had with Tiifu. “She’s kind. The way she treats that annoying zebra is proof of that. But she’s the same with everyone. What else? She’s a bit vain, can be a bit stuck up when she’s with Zuri, but she’s genuine, honest.” Honesty. Honesty was important to her, she realised.[l][m] Perhaps the most important. “Why is honesty so important?” She asked herself. “Well, we were lied to our whole lives, near enough every word Zira ever said to us was bullshit. Nothing we were brought up to believe is true.” This was something she had been trying to come to terms with ever since joining Simba’s pride. She had been betrayed by the person she was supposed to be closest to, her mother. She offhandedly realised she’d stopped thinking of Zira as her mother about the same time she learned she’d been lied to.[n] She couldn’t face that sort of betrayal again by someone close to her. If she was ever going to open up to someone else, allow herself to be vulnerable with them, there needed to be honesty between them. Someone who wasn’t going to bullshit her, that was something she could love about them. “Right, so how do we get her to lo … Like us back? Like, let’s start with like, we can worry about the other thing later.” She thought about something Kiara had told her shortly after she took over the guard. “Be yourself.” She spoke the words out loud. This was more important than she thought. Kiara had told her it would take time for the rest of the pridelanders to come to trust her. She was an outsider, and up until recently had been trying to kill the king. But until then, don’t try to be something you’re not just to get the others to like you. Kiara could have been speaking about her dealing with Tiifu, but that was months ago. That was before she even realised she had feelings for Tiifu. Maybe Kiara saw something before she could, or maybe good advice is universal. “Be yourself,” she repeated. Tiifu had always been honest with her, the least she could do was return that honesty. “Okay, be yourself. The only problem is nobody likes the real you.” “That’s not true.” Another voice spoke and startled Vitani, without realising it she had stood up and begun pacing as she spoke to herself. She turned to see Tiifu slowly approaching her. Terror filled her veins at the sight. How long had she been there? How much had she heard? “Sorry Vitani, I didn’t mean to make you jump.” She wore a gentle smile, the same smile she wore earlier in the day, still full of warmth. “I was looking for some company and Kiara said you sometimes come out here. Do you mind if I join you?” Vitani, paralysed with fear at the thought of Tiifu overhearing her, took a deep breath to calm herself. ‘Be yourself’ she thought again to herself, there wasn’t much she could do if Tiifu had overheard her. So she could either panic and run and probably make an even bigger idiot out of herself, or she could own it. Be honest with Tiifu, she owed her that much. “Of course not, I could do with some company myself,” Vitani answered. She kept her expression neutral, fighting with herself not to pull the same ridiculous face as she did earlier. “If you don’t mind sitting with someone who talks to themselves like a lunatic.” She added. That actually got a small giggle out of Tiifu who moved up next to Vitani. The pair sat down facing the Outlands. Vitani had lost track of the time while she was out here talking to herself and now the sun was beginning to set, the tall hills of the outlands casting long shadows on the ground, the blue of the sky becoming orange and then red on the horizon. After a few moments an uncomfortable silence descended upon the pair as Vitani struggled to think of something to say. “Sooooooo,” Vitani dragged the word out to three syllables. ‘Dammit Vitani, we can do this, we can have a normal conversation’ she thought to herself. “How much of all that did you hear?” This was a good, a whole sentence without stumbling over her words. “Tiifu’s really hot.” Ice ran through Vitani’s veins as Tiifu spoke, she had heard everything. ‘Own it, Vitani. We fucked up, but Tiifu’s still here, in fact she approached us. We can fix this.’ She thought to herself. Vitani took another deep breath and said, “sorry, you weren’t meant to hear that. I don’t usually talk out loud to myself.” “It’s okay, really.” Tiifu smiled as she spoke, her tone soft and reassuring. “I didn’t mean to eavesdrop, but it sounded like you really needed to work that out and I didn’t want to interrupt. Though, if you don’t mind me asking, what has you so wound up? You sounded like you were on the verge of a panic attack just now, why are you so afraid of love?” Tiifu’s smile remained, though it didn’t reach her eyes, instead a look of concern came over her. This was it, Vitani had a choice to make now, come clean or run away. “I don’t know how to love someone else.” She remembered Kiara’s advice, be yourself. She had promised herself to be honest with Tiifu, so there was really no choice at all. “I look at you and I feel… Something. I don’t know what I’m feeling, I’ve never felt like this for anyone else before. Yeah, I want to bang, but it goes… Deeper than that? I don’t know. In the outlands there was no time for that, everything was focused on Zira getting her revenge. We were raised to be tough, independent, and love wasn’t a part of that. There was no need for it. I don’t even know if I’m even capable of loving someone else.” Vitani spoke plainly, without emotion. There was some catharsis to speaking these words out loud. It helped her to understand herself as much as explain it to Tiifu. Vitani watched Tiifu’s eyes as she spoke. She was relieved to see there was no judgement in Tiifu’s expression, the look of concern remained but her smile became more relaxed. “You know, I’ve never been in love, either.” Tiifu said. “Nobody really knows what it’s like to love another person until it happens. And I’m sure it feels different for everyone. A lot of what you just said sounds very familiar to me. I look at you and I feel something, too. You have a good heart, Vitani. You were the fist of the Outlanders to defy Zira and help us in the battle, You took over the Lion Guard in Kion’s absence and have been protecting the Pridelands ever since. You’ve been working your tail off to make sure everyone stays safe even though some of the Pridelanders have had trouble trusting you. That’s why I like you, really like you. As a matter of fact, I might be in love with you, too.” Tiifu echoed the words Vitani spoke to herself. Tiifu’s words gave Vitani pause, she could never have guessed that the other lioness felt the same way she did. Knowing Tiifu felt the same way made her fears start to evaporate. “Plus, you’re really hot.” Tiifu added with a wink. This brought a smile to Vitani’s mouth. “What brought you all the way out here to look for me, anyway?” Vtani asked. “Oh, well,” Tiifu turned her head away from Vitani’s and lowered her voice to just barely above a whisper. “It’s a bit embarrassing, but I’m still a little afraid of the dark.” Tiifu’s eyes moved to the side to look at Vitani as she spoke. Vitani wasn’t sure but she thought she could see a ghost of a smile on Tiifu’s lips. “And, you did say I should come and find you if I needed you for anything.” Is this… Was she… Flirting? This was quite unexpected and the thought both excited and worried Vitani, she had never flirted before, there was never any need. This was a new experience for her. The thought that Tiifu might reciprocate her feelings hadn’t even crossed her mind. “It’s a good job you came to the leader of the Lion Guard, fiercest in all the Pridelands, to protect you, then.” Vitani struck her most heroic looking pose as she spoke. Tiifu laughed at this and after a few seconds Vitani joined her. ‘Not bad, Vitani. We got Tiifu to laugh.’ she thought to herself. Tiifu’s laugh was warm, she was laughing with Vitani not at her. With this the ice was broken, Vitani could feel herself becoming more relaxed, more comfortable with the situation as it played out. By now the sun had all but set, the sky had now taken on a deep blue dotted with stars, only the horizon showed the last of the sunlight now. A full moon had risen behind them lighting the area with a silvery glow. A gentle breeze blew over the mesa, bringing with it the sweet smells of the savannah, but also a chill. The air had cooled since the sun set and this wind caused Vitani to shiver slightly. Tiifu moved closer to the other lioness until their sides were touching. Without thinking, Vitani relaxed into Tiifu’s side. It was a purely instinctual action and once she had realised she’d done it she started to panic again and jumped away. “Errr, would you like an escort back to Pride Rock?” She asked. She really hoped she hadn’t blown it, Tiifu didn’t seem to mind her erratic behaviour, though. She still wore the same smile, her gaze soft. Vitani didn’t know why, but seeing this put her at ease. “Actually, I thought we might stay out here for a while.” There was something in the way the other lioness spoke that Vitani couldn’t quite figure out. Tiifu’s expression had also changed subtly, her eyes were more heavily lidded than they were a moment ago. “You’re here to protect me from the dark, after all.” Tiifu added. Something struck Vitani suddenly, Tiifu wasn’t just flirting with her, she was coming on to her. Vitani surreptitiously sniffed the air, in amongst the smells of the savannah she could definitely detect the scent of an aroused lioness. She was pretty sure it wasn’t herself she was smelling so it could only be coming from Tiifu. “Besides, Kiara’s… busy at Pride Rock, and I’d rather not interrupt.” There was a gleam in Tiifu’s eye as she spoke that Vitani understood immediately. “Oh yeah? What’s Kiara up to?” Vitani asked knowingly. “She’s banging your brother.” Tiifu answered bluntly. This was nothing new to Vitani, Kovu’s upbringing was even more harsh than her own. He had a lot less freedom than she did and so hadn’t had the opportunities for learning about sex. When they moved to the Pridelands, he and Kiara had become nearly inseparable. Vitani had walked in on them having sex more than a few times. “He’s not the only brother she’s banged.” Vitani spoke without thinking. She looked at Tiifu, to make sure she hadn’t offended her, but instead of shock or horror she saw Tiifu giggling into her paw. “Kion? Really?” Tiifu asked between laughs. “You didn’t know?” Tiifu shook her head at the question. “The night before he left, I figured half the Pridelands could hear them.” Vitani remembered that evening, she was especially grumpy the following day due to the lack of sleep. Still, she was happy for the couple, they might be brother and sister, but sex was sex, and it sounded like really good sex. “I guess Kion gets around a bit.” This shocked Vitani slightly, Tiifu had always seemed shy and reserved and Vitani didn’t expect her to be so open about her sex life, at least not so soon. “You too?” Vitani asked. “Only once.” Tiifu answered, “I went to thank him for helping me when we were stuck in a cave together and one thing led to another. How about you?” “Oh, no. That’s not to say I wouldn’t if the opportunity presented itself, but Kion’s not exactly my type.” The conversation really had taken a turn. Vitani could never have imagined discussing sex with Tiifu. It seemed like it should have been a post-coital conversation not a pre-coital one, and she still wasn’t even sure if that’s what Tiifu wanted. Despite this, Vitani realised that her anxieties had all but evaporated, she was much more at ease now, Kiara’s advice was working. Vitani had dropped her facade and was speaking to Tiifu like she would with the other members of the guard. She was laughing with her and talking freely. Tiifu seemed to be just as relaxed, she had moved back next to Vitani, their sides touching again. Vitani was still surprised she was being so open and she was slightly concerned that the topic of conversation might be making Tiifu uncomfortable, though if it was she wasn’t showing it. “Who is your type?” Tiifu purred into Vitani’s ear, her voice husky, laced with passion. Vitani turned to face her and froze. Tiifu’s eyes smouldered, heavily lidded now and full of lust. Arousal hit Vitani like a charging hippo, she was suddenly aware of just how close they were to each other, could almost feel each individual hair of Tiifu’s fur against her side. Even when she suspected Tiifu was coming on to her Vitani was too anxious to be aroused, now she was catching up for lost time. Before she knew what was happening their pair were fiercely kissing. Vitani didn’t know who made the first move, one moment she was looking into Tiifu’s eyes then next their tongues were wrestling with each other. Vitani felt Tiifu’s forelegs encircle her in a hug, felt one of Tiifu’s paws reach for her butt and give it a light squeeze. This caused Vitani’s breath to catch in her throat, in response she moved her paws to do some exploring of her own. She slowly ran one paw down Tiifu’s side, feeling the soft fur of the other lioness under her pads. Her paw made its way over Tiifu’s hip and onto her thigh squeezing the powerful muscles of her leg. Vitani’s heart was racing now, she placed her other paw on Tiifu’s chest and could feel the other lioness’ heart beating just as fast. The pair broke from their kiss, both breathing heavily. “I was worried all the sex talk might be making you uncomfortable,” Vitani panted. “I’ve never been more glad to be wrong about something.” “Are you kidding? I never get to talk about this stuff with the others. It’s nice to be so open for a change.” Tiifu was equally as out of breath. Tiifu’s paw continued their exploration as they spoke, the paw that had been squeezing Vitani’s butt made its way around to the inside of her leg and across her abdomen, tracing a paw pad across each of Vitani’s teats as it went. Vitani grit her teeth and pleasure shot through her body at Tiifu’s touch. Her breath caught in her throat at Tiifu started to gently tease one of her teats with a claw tip.Tiifu’s touch sent a shiver down Vitani’s spine making her tail twitch and the paw that had been fondling Tiifu’s thigh to squeeze even tighter. Tiifu stole another kiss as a small moan escaped from Vitani’s mouth. Just as things were starting to get serious Vitani felt a moment of panic bubble to the surface through her arousal. “Wait. Wait a sec.” Vitani spoke quickly, out of breath, fighting through the pleasure she was feeling. “If we do this, what does this mean?” She asked. Tiifu stopped her movements, but kept her in a loose embrace, a renewed look of concern had come over her face. “It doesn’t have to mean anything.” She answered. “Vitani, I heard what you were saying to yourself earlier, and after what you just told me I know these sorts of feelings are new to you, they are to me too. So we can figure them out together. Love takes time, we don’t have to have all the answers right now. If you really want this, we can take things as slowly as you need.” Relief flooded through vitani upon hearing Tiifu’s words. Not only did the other lioness feel the same way, but she was willing to give them both time to explore their love for each other. Love. Vitani revisited the word that had brought her so much panic only a few short hours ago. Now it was less scary to think about. She looked at Tiifu, still breathing deeply from their brief sexual activities, there was concern in her eyes but there was also something else. Vitani realised this was what love looked like. “Thank you.” Vitani said quietly. After a short pause she added, “We can still have sex, though. Right?” “Oh Kings, yes!” There was a hint of desperation in Tiifu’s response, obviously she was still very aroused. Despite this, she added, “We can still have sex, as often as you’d like. Sex is fast, Sex is for now. Love, that takes time. We can work on love.” Vitani was the first to move this time, closing the small space between them and capturing Tiifu’s mouth in another fierce kiss. She pushed forwards, gently leading Tiifu onto her back. Now it was her turn. She had a paw on Tiifu’s shoulder which she traced along the length of her foreleg until she had Tiifu’s paw in her own, entwining their toes. The other paw she ran down Tiifu’s chest, feeling her heartbeat again. Down further running a pad over Tiifu’s teats, she felt the other lionesses' hinds squeeze her hips at her touch. Vitani spent some time here, playing a pawtip over each of Tiifu’s teats, gently squeezing and pulling on them, running the end of a claw around them until each stood out. Tiifu’s eyes were tightly shut, her breathing laboured. The small sounds coming from her mouth, not quite a moan, were music to Vitani’s ears. Tiifu gasped as Vitani’s paw finally made it home. Vitani spent some time feeling between Tiifu’s legs, learning her body, figuring out what made Tiifu gasp and where to rub to make her pant and whimper. Vitani tore her gaze away from Tiifu’s face to see what was going on down there. She saw Tiifu’s teats sticking out proud of the fur on her belly and further down the fur between her legs was wet and matted. Vitani’s throat went dry at the sight, her own neathers feeling feeling just a moist between her legs. She returned her view back to Tiifu’s face and wasting no more time slowly inserted a pawtip into Tiifu’s vagina. At the same time she leant forward to kiss Tiifu again, muffling a moan coming from Tiifu’s throat. With increasing speed Vitani pumped the pawtip in and out of Tiifu’s pussy, using the rest of her paw to caress the rest of the area between her legs. Occasionally, she would pull the pawtip out and tease it around the edge of Tiifu’s hole before putting it back in and wrestling her pumping. Before long, Tiifu began to pant heavily. Her toes squeezed tightly at Vitani’s paw and Tiifu’s other paw clawed at Vitani’s shoulder. Her hinds squeezed again, tighter this time and for longer. A low, quiet moan made its way out of her mouth and her back arched up off the ground as orgasm took her. Vitani could feel Tiifu’s vagina contracting around her pawtip, could feel Tiifu’s muscles pulsing as she rode out her orgasm. She could feel Tiifu’s claws digging into her shoulder, but she continued prolonging Tiifu’s pleasure. Eventually Tiifu gasped, drawing in a long breath. Her muscles relaxed, her back straightened out and contractions around Vitani’s pawtip slowed to a stop. Vitani looked down on her as Tiifu’s eyes opened again. Tiifu’s paws grasped Vitani’s head and pulled her down into a violent kiss. Panting and sweaty, Tiifu rolled them over so that now she was on top. Breaking the kiss they looked into each other’s eyes, there was no need for any words. Tiifu resumed playing with Vitani’s teats. Now it was Vitani’s turn to gasp and moan, she was close before she stopped them, now she was almost in agony from arousal. Tiifu spent a few moments caressing Vitani’s teats then, wasting no more time, moved her paw straight to Vitani’s crotch. Vitani’s breath left her body as she felt Tiifu’s pawtip enter her vagina. Her eyes open but unseeing. She clawed at the ground beside her as Tiifu copied the movements Vitani made mere moments ago. Tiifu, however, leant forward almost laying on top of Vitani. She could feel Tiifu’s teats rubbing against her own, could feel the heartbeat of the other lioness through her chest. All too quickly she could feel her peak approaching. She encircled Tiifu in a ferocious hug, squeezing tightly as she climaxed. Vitani made no sounds as she rode out her orgasm save for an occasional gasp as she tried to catch her breath. When it was over Tiifu’s face came into focus above hers. Tiifu wore a beatific smile, though her fur was a complete mess. Vitani was sure she looked just as dishevelled. She would have to do some serious grooming before joining the guard in the morning because right now all she could smell was sex. This had all happened so fast. It seemed like Tiifu had barely spoken to her before they were tasting each other’s tongues. Not that she minded, that was the best lay she’d had in a long time. But still, she had a lot to think about. Lots of unfamiliar feelings to work through to properly understand. Still, Tiifu had said she would be there for her, would wait until she knew just what she wanted. Laying here, with Tiifu dozing off atop her, tail still tingling from her orgasm, she thought she knew what she wanted. Whether she would feel the same way in the morning she didn’t know, but right now, this was all she wanted. More of this. Love. That word again came to her mind as she too began to fall asleep. Love takes time, but maybe it doesn’t have to take too long. [a]Would she think of Zira as "Zira"? Might be some internal conflict here to work with. [b]I think you're right, there's definitely something worth exploring here, I'm not sure this is the right stroy for that, though. I went back and re-watched the last episode of the Lion Guard and Kovu also referred to her as Zira rather than 'my mother'. Maybe something the pair of them could discuss in a potential follow up. [c]Okay, that's why, but still, is Vitani the type to keep after something she isn't sure about? If so, there's probably character expansion to be done here. [d]So, these first few paragraphs have been pulled apart, re-arranged, and bits added and bits removed. I'm hoping this goes some way to explain Vitani's mindset here where it comes to Tiifu. [e]Why has she been doing this? [f]I'm not sure Vitani can sheath her claws? I think they're extended in every shot in TLK2. Not important, just something to consider as a lore point. [g]Again, going back to the last episode of TLG, Vitani has her claws sheathed throughout the episode. [h]I get the role this is playing in the narrative, but it seems like a REALLY big jump for her. Why is she even thinking about love, given its so foreign to her? [i]I've re-worded this one slightly and again, ra-arranged the whole paragraph. Hopefully this will feel like a bit less of a jump. Unfortunately, I can't really see any other way around this one, it's important for the story. [j]It's interesting that this hasn't occurred to her before now. She says it, but that it hasn't come up in her previous thoughts makes me think it's not something she really wants. [k]Hopefully this one was covered in my edits further up. I've also changed a couple of the words around here whic I hope has smoothed things out a bit. [l]This is super strong as a realization and answer to the above questions, but I'd like to see the path to it smoothed out. [m]Again, I hope I've expanded this out a bit, made the realisation a bit less of a jump. [n]I guess I did manage to slip this one in after all
