Lylat was at peace and the Angler threat was no more. Team Starfox went their separate ways. Unlike the team, Fox McCloud did not have his happy ending. Fox had high hopes he could settle with his love Krystal, but things took a turn for the worst. Krystal was homesick and wanted to return to Sauria. Not only that, but her interests drifted from Fox.
“I’m sorry, Fox, but I can’t do this anymore. Sauria needs me. Panther needs me. Goodbye… Fox.”
Krystal and Fox tearfully parted ways. Fox felt he would spend the rest of his days lonely and depressed. The glory days of his team are over. His lover ditched him for another man. His money and resources were dwindling. While everyone else rejoiced, he felt no happiness. He had to do something…but what? Fox departs for the stars, drifting aimlessly, searching for answers.
….
Fox sat alone in a Cornerian bar. The bar sat on the outskirts of town. An old, worn-out place. Despite its sleek and futuristic design, it was rather desolate and run-down. Metallic and musty. The scent of alcohol permeated the place. Old neon signs flickered along the walls. None of this mattered to Fox. All he desired was a few drinks to lift his spirits. Nothing more. Nothing less.
Fox took a few sips of his cocktail. “Ugh…why me?”
He drank more cocktails, then slumped into his seat.
“You okay there, Fox?” the dog bartender said.
“Yeah, yeah…just get me another drink, will ya?” Fox said, sliding his empty glass to the bartender.
The bartender sighed and took the glass. “If you say so. Just don’t overdo it, you hear?”
Fox nodded, then leaned over in his seat again. For a moment, all was quiet. Nothing but the sounds of the bartender clanking bottles and glasses. A ship landing outside the bar vanquished the eerie silence. Fox turned in his seat and peered towards the front entrance.
“It’s 4 AM. Who’d come here at this hour?”
Fox’s eyes widened when Wolf O’donnell burst through the doors. Wolf glanced around the bar when his eyes locked on Fox’s. With a snide smirk, he placed his hands on his hips and approached him.
“Look who it is... it’s Fox McCloud! How swell!” Wolf declared sarcastically before seating himself next to him.
“Tch…yeah, whatever, Wolf. If you’re looking for a fight, you can forget it.” Fox said, not making eye contact with Wolf.
“Oh? What a surprise? I thought you had a score to settle between us? We are eternal rivals, after all.” Wolf said, smirking, before he noticed Fox's weary and depressive posture. “Hm? What’s got you in a rut, McCloud? This is so unlike you.”
“Wouldn’t you like to know?” Fox said before shaking his head. “You wouldn’t care, anyway. Buzz off, will ya?” Fox said, shooing him.
“Hmph! You’re right. I rarely concern myself with your personal affairs, but I've gotta know. Just this once! You’ve got me curious, McCloud. I’ve never seen you in such a state before! You’re always so upbeat and sure of yourself. Someone had to fuck you up bad to make you all depressed and shit,” Wolf said, leaning closer and grinning. “C’mon, Fox…tell me what happened. Or maybe you’re too scared to say it? Hmmm?” A smug expression came across his face.
Annoyed by Wolf’s advances, Fox shoved him, grunted, then got ready to rise and leave. “I said buzz off!”
Wolf growled, then pushed Fox back into his seat, pinning him in place. “What’s the matter with you? I never took you for a coward. The real Fox spoke his mind like a real man! Now…you’re going to tell me what happened if it’s the last thing I do.” Wolf said, pushing Fox’s face towards his and had him lock eyes with him. “Start talking, or else!”
“Or else what?” Fox uttered.
“Or else I’ll kick your ass! That’s what!” Wolf growled.
“You know I’ll just beat you like every time before.” Fox scoffed.
“What makes you think you’ll beat me this time?” Wolf said, growling and staring him down. Fox stared back, glaring at him, both at a standstill, before Fox rolled his eyes and sighed. “Fine…since you’re just dying to know about my personal life…I’ll tell you.”
Wolf let go of Fox and leaned back in his seat, crossing his arms. He smiled softly and gave a nod of approval. “See? That proved simple, yeah? Go on…tell me the good stuff.” He said, leaning an arm on the bar, leaning forward and looking with deep, smug curiosity. “Go on…lay it on me, McCloud.”
“... What have I gotten myself into? Ugh…here goes nothing,” Fox sighed, then looked Wolf dead in the eyes. “Krystal broke up with me. She left me for Panther. She wished for a life with him on Sauria.”
“What? Daaaaammnnn…that’s gotta hurt. Krystal, of all people? I never would’ve expected it. She was all over your hide. Crazy about you, even. You done fucked up, Fox!” Wolf scoffed. Wolf placed a hand on Fox’s shoulder, patting it. “Haha! Forget that bitch. She wasn’t worth it, anyway. That girl was more trouble than she was worth.”
“You don’t understand, Wolf…she was the love of my life…we were supposed to start a family together…and…it turns out she’s a backstabbing, cheating bitch. Soon as she met Panther, she was all over him. I saw the text messages. I know I’m not at fault for this. She tried to twist the blame on me, but I know the truth!” Fox clutched a fist before slamming it on the table.
“Damn Fox…she’s worse than I thought,” Wolf said, closing his eyes and shaking his head. “Turns out Krystal ain’t what she seems. Nothing but a lying, cheating son of a bitch. You don’t need her. There’s other fish in the sea.”
“You don’t get it, Wolf…you’ve been single your whole life. Come back to me when you find love and get your heart broken.” Fox scoffed.
“Oh, I get it. Unlike you, I’m careful with choosing mates. You chose Krystal on a whim. I’ve heard the stories from your crew.” Wolf paused. “Oh Krystal! You look so beautiful in that crystal! Cue sexy saxophone music! Oooh, I’m in love! Let’s settle and have kids immediately! Ohohohoho! Love at first sight! Works out really well, doesn’t it? Heehee! Haahaaa! Hoohoo!”
“Go fuck yourself, Wolf.”
“Hahaha! That’s more like it. That’s the Fox that I know.” He smacks Fox on the back, making him jump for a moment. “All jokes aside…I was trying to make a point here. You shouldn’t let your lust decide for you. It’ll do you no good. Just because a lady is pretty doesn’t mean she is a good person. Let this be a hard lesson learned.” He said, pulling him close to his chest and giving his head a good ruffle.
“H-hey!” Fox uttered, getting a blush out of him.
“C’mon, Fox! You’ve been through worse. Pull it together, will ya?” he said, playfully roughhousing with Fox, causing a stirring in Fox’s pants.
“I get your point. Now let go!” Fox stuttered before letting him go with a hearty chuckle.
“Okay, okay…I’ll stop. Just trying to have a little fun, ya know?” Wolf smirked and shrugged his arms.
“Wolf, I don’t understand why you…” Fox was about to inquire when Wolf snickered. “What’s so funny?”
“Oh nothing! It’s just the way you’re looking at me. Why the googly eyes, Pup?” Wolf smirked.
“Huh? I don’t have the faintest idea what you mean!” Fox blushed and looked away. Wolf made him look at him again.
“C’mon! Enough of your whining. Don’t lie to me! Fox McCloud doesn’t lie!” Wolf said.
Foxes’ heart pounded in his chest as a lump formed in his throat. “Look…Wolf…it’s just that I…” Panther interrupted Fox’s train of thought when he walked through the door.
“Well, look who came crawling back. If it isn’t my old friend Panther,” Wolf said, hopping out of his seat and scurrying up close to the feline fellow.
“Grrr…my, my…if it isn’t my old leader, Wolf. What brings you here?” Panther said.
“I’d like to ask you the same question.” Wolf smirked before he placed a hand on Panther’s shoulder, giving him a flirtatious look.
Fox took one look at Panther and bared his teeth. “Oh, hell no!” Fox got between Wolf and Panther. “Get the hell out of here, Panther. You’re not welcome here!”
Panther glared at him and grunted. “You’re mad just because I took your girl. Listen here, fool. She came to me. Clearly, if she broke up with you, she never truly loved you to begin with. Step aside, mutt!”
“You might have stolen my girl, but you’ll not get him too! I won’t allow it! Toyah!” Fox threw a left hook to Panther’s jaw, knocking a tooth out and drawing blood. Panther flew back before landing on his feet.
“What the hell are you talking about?!” Panther rushed at Fox, before clawing at Fox. The two threw hands, neither letting up, breaking and destroying tables, glasses and the like, before Wolf got between them. Wolf pushed Fox aside, causing him to stumble on his behind, before Wolf lunged at Panther, causing them to roll into a wall, leaving Wolf lying on top of Panther in an oddly suggestive position.
“What is the meaning of this, Wolf?” Panther growled, glaring daggers at him.
“You’re making a fool outta yourself. Cut the crap now. That’s an order!” Wolf growled in a commanding tone.
“Who are you to bark orders at me? Our team broke up after the Angler Invasion ended. I don’t take orders from anyone now!” Panther growled.
Krystal entered before Wolf could act.
“Panther? What are you doing?” Krystal said, blinking her eyes in shock.
“Uh…it isn’t what it looks like, dear,” Panther said, blushing.
“What is this? Are you into girls or guys? Which is it, Panther?” Krystal huffed, crossing her arms.
“I love you, Krystal! Rawr...yes indeed!” Panther said, blushing from embarrassment, before pushing Wolf off of him quickly.
“Well, damn…looks like I was wrong about you all along. My impression was that you liked me. Heh…oh well…more for me, I guess. Have fun with your girlfriend, Panther. Goodbye and good riddance to ya,” Wolf said, playing it off like it was nothing, but deep down, hurt by Panther’s rejection.
Panther wrapped an arm around Krystal and wiped blood from his mouth. “Let’s depart, my dear.”
“Krystal…” Fox said, getting to his feet and approaching her.
Krystal looked back at him, her eyes widening, before tears filled her eyes. She averted her gaze, turning her back. “Fox…No…No matter how much you beg and plead, we can no longer be together. Perhaps one day you’ll understand. Goodbye, Fox McCloud.”
“Krystal... no... damn you…Krystal…” Fox fell to his knees, tears welling.
Fox briskly got away and flew off into the night sky, leaving him weeping angrily on the floor. Wolf shook himself off, then lifted Fox to his feet. “They’re nothing but a bunch of sore losers. The bitch and the bastard. Weaklings…the lot of them,” Wolf said, before placing his hands on Fox’s shoulders. “You showed Panther who’s boss. I like that. It’s why I have so much respect for you these days.” He said with huffed breath.
Fox’s heart thumped in his chest. Breathing in and out, his desperation, anger, and hatred fizzled into nothing. He looked at Wolf, longingly in his eyes. The heroes’ body trembled, and his breath bated. Wolf stared back at him and cocked his head, giving him a cocky smirk. He gave him a hearty chuckle.
“What’s wrong Fox? Katt got your tongue?” He smirked, chuckled, and panted. “There’s that look again.”
Fox gulped anxiously and blushed. He leaned forward and planted a kiss on Wolf, lashing his tongue about in his mouth.
“Awoowoowooo?” Wolf’s eyes nearly bulged out of his skull before warmth flowed through his frame. With a cheeky smirk spreading across his lips, he wrapped his arms around Fox, pushing him back into a table and lying on top of him. They kept kissing, making out, boners touching, Wolf’s package clearly larger than Fox’s, asserting a loving dominance upon him. With their tails intertwined, they slowly broke apart, looking at each other endearingly.
“Did we just kiss?” Fox gasped.
“Well, duh! Of course! You’re the one who started it, Pup!” Wolf snickered and blushed. “Mmm…you’re quite a good kisser…I’ll give you that…but I’m still the best kisser around! Hehehe!”
“Wolf…I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have…” Fox said, before Wolf placed a finger to his lips softly.
“Say no more…your kiss says it all. You can’t resist me, can you? I knew it all along. Your move was what I awaited. Glad my patience finally paid off,” Wolf said.
“W-what? How did you know?!” Fox blushed.
“Remember when I saved you? It was during the Aparoid Invasion of Corneria. Need I say more?” Wolf said.
“Huh?” Fox said.
“...I was flirting, Fox. God, you are so dense. Hehehe.” Wolf said, smiling and winking. “I remember the way you were looking at me…moaning my name under your breath when I flew away…I knew you loved me. And I love you too.” Wolf said, planting his lips on Fox, giving him a deep, passionate kiss before pulling apart.
“Wolf…you owe me an explanation.” Fox said.
“As do you too, my dear Pup,” Wolf said, placing Fox in his arms. “We’re going to the Great Fox. You’ll not be rid of me. You sealed your fate when you kissed me.”
“Perfect,” Fox said.
“Good…that’s what I love to hear. Let’s go home; much awaits us,” Wolf remarked.
Fox and Wolf departed the bar, fading into the Lylat System’s expanse.
