Our First Year Chapter 2
#2 of Our First Year
This is chapter 2 of Our First Year. Essentially I just separated what I had up before.
Jake walked into class and saw Shawn sitting in the back row where no one else was sitting. He sat next to him and gave him a nudge. "I told those girls that something came up and I can't go. We are still good for Friday, right?"
"You're damn straight we are still good for Friday. Nobody is going to mess this up."
"Mess what up exactly?"
"Our trip."
"Trip where?"
"You'll find out. You're not getting it out of me."
Jake glared at Shawn, " Why won't you tell me?"
"Because if I tell you it won't be a surprise."
Jake sighed and pulled out his notebook. He set it down and opened it to the first page. Shawn glanced over and saw his name with a heart around it. Shawn started blushing very hard.
Jake noticed Shawn blushing and asked, "Why are you blushing?"
Shawn simply pointed at the notebook and covered his mouth.
Jake glanced down and realized what Shawn was pointing to. He began to blush very hard and slapped the notebook closed. He stared at his book for a good ten minutes into class before he finally opened it again, this time skipping the first page.
"What was that all about?"
"It's... it's... nothing. I borrowed this from a friend. She has a crush on this guy named Shawn in her class."
"I see. And what's her name?"
"Sarah. Her name is Sarah."
"Hmm, I've never heard mention on this Sarah before."
"Well, we aren't that good of friends. Just classmates."
"I see. Well then that's good to know."
Shawn smiled at Jake and Jake blushed again.
The class went on, the two swapping notes and falling asleep. After the class was over they both only had one class left for the day and they were done for the week. They went their separate ways.
Shawn bumped into Cindy in the hall on her way to her Astronomy class.
"Hey Cindy, what's up?"
"Oh, I'm just walking to my Astronomy class. It's the best part of my Wednesday. What about you?"
"Nothing much. Just got done with computer programming with Jake. We have one more class and we are off for the week."
"Oh lucky y'all. I have classes Thursday through Saturday. I'm booked the rest of the week."
"Oh, I'm sorry. Too bad you can't come with me and Jake to the lake Friday night."
"Shawn, that's a night for the two of you. Even if I could go I wouldn't. Isn't that where you plan on asking him out?"
"I guess you're right. I just feel like I'll chicken out without y'all there."
"Shawn... sweetie, you'll be fine, trust me. A females intuition is never wrong."
Cindy winked at Shawn who straightened up a bit. "You're right, I'll be fine."
"Now, do you need help getting anything? Food? Cloths? Perhaps a condom?"
Shawn began to blush so hard be almost became a red fox.
"Wh... wh... why would I need a condom?"
"You never know what could happen." She winked at Shawn again, "Anyways hun, I have to get to class, I've only got ten minutes."
Cindy skipped down the hall waving goodbye to Shawn. She reached her Astronomy class two minutes before the bell.
"Phew, made it in time."
"Barely made it."
Cindy jumped when she heard a voice behind her. She turned around to see Tyler. Tyler was a big black lab. He was captain of the football team and was very popular.
"Tyler! What are you doing here?"
"I decided I wanted to take it a little easier this year. So I took a few elective classes I figured I'd enjoy."
"Wow, that's great! How's the whole football thing going?"
"It's going pretty smooth. Coach is looking at trying to get me into the NFL, but I don't know if I want to go. I feel like my other talents wouldn't be put to good use if I just smashed my head against other guys chasing a ball for the rest of my life."
Tyler chuckled a bit. Even though he was big into football, he was a modest man. He never just talked about football because he knew it wasn't everyone's favorite topic, so instead he broadened his horizon and took other off the wall classes to strike up conversation. He found that his favorite thing to talk about was space. So he decided to take Astronomy this year.
"My old man is fairly upset that I'm talking about not going. He wants to see me in the big leagues."
"It's doesn't matter what other people think Tyler. You be you. Don't change who you are or what you want to be for them."
"That's the thing though Cindy, I don't want to be a football player. That's what my old man wanted for me. I'd much rather be an astronomer. The stars have always made me happy. My perfect date would be sitting on a rooftop under the stars with someone there who loves me for me and not because I'm a football player."
"Yeah, I get you Tyler. That would be my perfect date too."
Tyler stopped and looked at Cindy. Cindy began to turn bright red.
"Wouldn't you know, we like the same thing. Hey, what are you doing Saturday night?"
"Uh... umm... I... uhh... nothing... I just... have class Saturday, but I'm off Sunday. Why?"
"Don't make plans okay? Here's my number. Call me tonight, I wanna talk to you a bit more."
Tyler walked inside. Class had already began, but the professor was a nice guy and saw them talking outside, so he just let them in and moved on. After class, Cindy saw Tyler wave goodbye and walk to his next class. She was done with her classes today, but she had a bit of homework to do. She raced back to her room and layed down on her bed. She sighed with relief as she took out the slip of paper with Tyler's number on it. She picked up her phone and typed it in. She sent him a message saying "Hey, it's Cindy."
She set the paper and her phone down and pulled her pencil and paper out of her bag. She began on her homework. She took about two hours to finish, by then, Tyler was done with his classes and was finished with football practice. She got a message saying "Call me" from Tyler.
The phone rang a few times and Cindy heard Tyler's voice on the other end of the line.
"Hello?"
"Hey Tyler, it's Cindy. You said to call?"
"Yeah, listen, I was a bit nervous earlier, but I've calmed down enough now to ask, what would you say if I asked you to be my girlfriend?"
Cindy's heart stopped as he finished his question.
"I... uhh... I... well... yes! Yes yes yes I will!"
Cindy jumped out of bed and started dancing around.
"You... really? Are you sure? You want to be my girlfriend?"
"Tyler, I already said yes. I've known you for a few years now. I was hoping one day I'd get close enough to talk to you. Wow, I have butterflies in my stomach."
"I'm... I'm so glad you said yes. Wow. Uhhh, so Saturday, you wanna go star gazing with me?"
"I'd love to Tyler. Thanks for inviting me."
"Cool! I'll... see you Saturday?"
"It's a date."
Cindy hung up the phone and fell back on her bed. She sighed heavily with relief. "I'm so happy."
She was drained. She curled up in a ball and fell asleep.
Thursday had arrived. Shawn woke up at 6 am. He turned off his alarm and Jake's. He let Jake keep sleeping again. He stepped out of the room and walked down the hall to Randall's room. He knocked on the door and Randall opened still in his boxers. He rubbed his eyes and gave Shawn a motion to come in. "You're up really early. What do you need?"
"I came to talk about the boat. I just remembered, I've never pulled a boat before. How will I get it there, much less, how will I get it in the water?"
"That's easy. My dad's gonna use it to go cruisin' tomorrow. He said he'll just leave it in a rent spot till you get there. I showed you how to back it out, so ya shouldn't have a problem."
"Okay, that'll make things a lot easier. I'll take out some money to put gas in it while we are out."
"Ah, that won't be a problem. Dad said he's gonna fill it up for ya. Kind of as a "go get her" kind of present. Like that's how he's showin' his support for ya."
"Wow, tell him I said thanks!"
"Yeah, it's no problem. He's an active supporter for gay rights cause my uncle is gay. And he was always picked on as a kid. My dad went to save him a lot of the time."
"Wow, I didn't know that."
"Yeah, well anyways, we got it all taken care of, ya just gotta show up and the launch ramp and park. You should totally let me go back to sleep now."
"Oh! Oh right, I'm sorry. Yeah, go back to bed, I'll catch you later."
"Take it easy bud."
Shawn went back to his room. He came in and found Jake still asleep. He nudged his shoulder.
"Hey, you slept through your alarm. I did too. Time to wake up."
Jake opened his eyes. He grunted and turned over.
"Come on now Jake. You gotta get up. You are the one who gets irritated when I don't wake you up."
"Fine, you're right. You're right. I'm up."
Jake sat up and stretched. Shawn hit him in the stomach mid stretch causing Jake to curl down interrupting his stretch.
"Damn it Shawn."
Shawn laughed and jumped on top of Jake and they began to wrestle. They quickly fell off the bed and onto the floor where there was more space. They wrestled at a tie until Shawn found some leverage and put Jake in a choke hold. Jake slipped out of the hold and flipped around and grabbed Shawn's arm and locked him in an arm bar. Shawn started cringing in pain.
"Tap out! Tap out and I'll stop."
"Never!"
Jake tightened the arm bar more."Tap!"
"I refuse!"
After a few seconds of agonizing pain, Shawn tapped Jake on the lag and Jake let go.
"That's a good little fox."
Shawn punched Jake in the arm.
"I could have gotten out of that you know?"
"No, I don't think I do know."
Jake smirked at Shawn and they laughed.
They went down to the kitchen and made some breakfast, then went back to their room and played games and wrestled till about 4 pm.
"Hey Shawn."
"What's up?"
"How come you got so attached to me. We barely know each other and here we are spending almost every spare moment together. Why did you choose me?"
"Truthfully, I don't know why I picked you. You were my roommate and we can from the same place. I guess I only thought it natural. So I sort of adopted you as my freshman."
"Oh, so now I'm your property?"
Shawn and Jake started laughing.
"You aren't my property. You're my friend, arguably my best friend."
"Oh... I see."
Jake looked down and his feet.
"So where are we going tomorrow?"
"I already told you, you'll find out tomorrow when we get there."
"Boo! You're no fun!"
"Yes I am. You'll see why tomorrow. Just trust me"
"Fine."
Jake sighed heavily. Shawn punched him in the arm and pushed him over and they began to wrestle again.
They wrestled for a good two hours straight and we're both exhausted. Jake got up and layed down on his bed.
"Let's get some sleep. I'm so tired. And it sounds like we have a big day tomorrow."
"Yeah, speaking of, I need you to go to Josh's for a couple of hours tomorrow. He doesn't have classes either."
"Why do you need me to go to Josh's room tomorrow? I thought we were gonna spend the whole day together."
"We are, apart from those two hours... three tops. I promise I'll be quick, but I need you to go to his room and don't leave whatsoever!"
"I..."
"Whatsoever! You understand?"
"Yes, I promise."
"Good, now that that's settled. He will be expecting you tomorrow at about 10 am. So you'd better not oversleep."
"I only oversleep when you turn off my alarm."
Jake glared at Shawn.
"Hey, hey, I do it for you! So you're welcome."
"Okay, I'm getting some sleep, night Shawn."
"Night."
Shawn's thoughts raced around in his head. But one line came out in particular. "Goodnight love."
