Tribe Chapter 8
#9 of Tribe
Well, it's been a year, figured I may as well post the next chapter. ^^
Io's sleep addled brain tried to make sense of the information it was receiving, gave up then then tumbled back into slumber. A fresh rush of sensation tried to wake him yet again. It was pain. His eyes fluttered awake as yet another sting of pain sang from his cheek. His eyes tried to focus, to pin point the source of it, as he realized he was under attack. He shifted his head up, Winter's head stirred against his chest murmuring gently.
"I'm hungry..." Said the tiny wolf, paw raised to hit her father again.
"Summer...did you just hit me in the face?"
"You weren't waking up...and i'm hun-"
"Yes hungry, you said." Io poked his mate, "Winter, your daughter just slapped me in the face."
"If you don't 'mmrmmmnr' i'll slap you in the face too." Winter mumbled into his chest fur. rolling her head around to get comfortable again.
"Io slumped back against his rolled up blanket. The light of dawn suddenly burning at his eyes. "I'm supposed to be the alpha you know..." He yawned. "Getting beaten up by all the women folk...it's ridiculous."
"I'm hungry." Said the small wolf.
"Well, get some food there's plenty of it left over from last night."
"It's not cooked." Huffed the pup.
"You're a wolf, raw meat was what our anc-"
"I'm hungry!"
"Okay okay." Io eased up onto his elbows.
"Stop wriggling." Said winter, still desperately trying to sleep.
"Sorry my love but the monster must feed."
"Well just leave whatever bit of you i'm using for a pillow."
"My chest?"
"Yes."
"I'm hungry!"
Io, rose to his feet, letting his mate's head roll awkwardly from him. Winter yawned and sat up, stretching broadly.
"I'm hungry."
Winter reached forward and grabbed her daughter, bundling the the smaller version of herself into her lap, the pup almost disappeared into her mothers matching snow white fur.
"Dad's cooking breakfast now, won't be long."
Io knelt by the remains of the previous night's camp fire and began assembling wood and tinder into a neat little pile. He picked up a box of matches from his small deer skin bag, struck one and set the little pyre ablaze.
"The dog's sure do make some funny things..." He said, marveling at the little box, "I don't know why they make these when you can just use a piece of flint and a knife."
Winter squeezed the pup in her arms close and nuzzled lovingly at her. "The dog's make all the knives too...Also i don't think I've ever seen you start a fire with flint and steel... I've seen you try...And I've watched you watch me do it... But-"
"I can do it!" Said Io putting more twigs onto the tiny blaze. "It's tricky is all, there's a lot of motion and..." Io trailed off into a half embarrassed mumble.
"It's okay honey, you're good at other things." Winter smiled. Io's tail thumped happily at the ground a couple of times. "Like what?"
"I dunno, but i'll tell you when I see it." She said. "I mean, odds are you must be." She teased.
Io's tail stopped thumping the ground as he rolled his eyes.
"I'm hun-" The tiny wolf started, before being cut off by her mother's paw fingers pinching her muzzle shut. Summer shook her mouth free. "-Gry." She finished.
"You know your mother's better at this than me anyhow, Why don't you come sit on my lap, and your mom can cook breakfast." Io reached his paws out towards his daughter, his daughter looked up at her mother. Her mother shook her head and mouthed 'no' with a great big smirk on her lips.
"No." Said Summer once again turning her gaze to her father.
"The next one of those better be male." Io said with a sigh. "I'm beginning to feel like i'm being ganged up on."
Once the tiny pack had had it's fill of singed venison they gathered up their belongings and began to gently amble down the track from their impromptu campsite among a small grove of pines towards the river that wound it's way through the gently rolling hills and valleys which they had settled in. They had traveled west for as long as they could bare after their run in with their old packmaster. They had finally settled themselves a mere week before their daughter had been born. Now that their little one could walk, they toyed with the idea of moving on but life had been easy and good, so they had found the courage to stop fleeing and begin their life anew.
"What's that noise?" Asked Summer loudly. Her mother dropped to her knees and clasped a paw around the pups muzzle.
A gentle tune was drifting between the trees, a light breezy whistle, jaunty and full of hope.
Io dropped the large pack he was carrying, slid behind a fat pine tree and craned his neck around it, he peered through the trees down towards the source of the noise.
Winter stared at her mate, waiting for him to signal all was safe, or that all was not. Her body was tense and poised to drive off into the wood, pup in arms, at a moments notice.
"Ooh! It's Jacob!" said Io, suddenly. without warning he snatched his pack up off the ground and tore down the side of the hill.
"Wait!" Whispered winter as loudly as she dared.
As Io reached the base of the hill he stepped from the treeline onto the hard flat surface of a well used dirt track.
"Heyo!" He shouted.
The source of the gentle tune was a small fat floppy eared dog wearing well made albeit filthy travelling clothes. He was hunched over next to the wheel of a small cart hammering a metal plate over a split in the wood. Io's greeting made the smaller canine jump in the air in surprise. As the dog turned he let out a yell, whipped out a small flintlock pistol from his belt clutched it in both shaking paws and blasted a small hole into a pine tree several yards from the wolf.
"What the hell Jacob!" Yelped Io, cowering behind his own paws.
"Io!" Squeaked the dog "I'm so sorry!"
"Why did you do that?" Io yelled.
"I'm so sorry!" He repeated "You scared the heck outta me!" The dog chucked the spent weapon onto the back of his cart. "Are you alright?"
"Well yeah i'm..." Io started. "Winter no! No! No! It's fine it was an accident!" He was gesturing past the dog down the path.
The small smartly dressed critter jumped again as he turned around to see Winter standing mere feet from him, her teeth bared and snarling.
"He-he-hello again..." muttered the dog meekly.
Winter reached into the cart, picked up the dog's gun and hurled it into the trees. Then she turned around and went off in the other direction back to where she had stashed her daughter.
"I don't think she likes me." muttered the dog.
"Eh, she doesn't like most people." Io said, hauling his pack over to the dog's cart. "Didn't you have a horse last time I saw you?"
"I sent him off to get water... He'll be back soon, I hope... If he don't coming running back after hearing that gunshot I'll have to give him a beating."
"Fair enough..Wanna trade?" Io asked hopefully.
The dog was still visibly shaking. "Oh...okay.... sure what've you got?"
The wolf tipped the pack upside down and emptied a huge quantity of assorted junk onto the ground. "We've got loads of pelts too. Deer and rabbit mostly also an elk and a fox."
"You killed a fox?" asked the dog disdainfully, clearly uneasy with the idea of one canine skinning another.
"No!" Said Io, sounding almost hurt by the accusation. "He was already dead when we found him, froze in the snow we think, we just took his pelt."
The dog stared at him for a moment.
"What? He wasn't using it anymore and we were really cold."
"I'll take all the pelts, minus the fox." Said the dog finally.
"Great!" Io's tail swished happily.
"What's the rest of this-" The dog cut himself off before saying 'crap' "...stuff." He finished.
"Stuff I thought you might like, been holding onto some of it for months waiting till I saw you again."
On the ground was an extremely odd collection of items, ranging from bits of antler to the odd bit of clothing and everything in between.
"You found all this stuff right? Didn't take it off any dead dog's or anything?" The dog looked the naked savage up and down.
"Of course!" Io paused and looked a bit guilty. "Except for this." He rummaged through the pile of junk until he found an old pocket watch. He picked it up and chucked it to the dog.
"I found that on a skeleton by the river, clothes were all rotted away... pretty sure it was a dog . It's really shiny though, thought it was neat...what is it?"
"It's a clock, for telling time." Said the dog, obviously uneasy about handling the artifact.
"Does it matter that I took it from a dog?"
The smaller male tossed it in his paws, looking over the tarnished metal, saw the hallmark stamped into it, indicating that it was solid silver, and said "Nope, that's fine. I'll take it. What else have you got?"
"Erm... bit's and pieces. I have one of those things you dogs put on your feet." Io held up a solitary boot."
"Naa," the dog began rifling through the other assorted items but found nothing much else of value. "I think I'll just take the clock and the pelts."
"Oh." Io seemed a bit disappointing and looked over his bizarre collection again. "I thought this was all good stuff... what do the other wolves trade with you?"
The dog chuckled. "You are literally the only wolf I have met that hasn't tried to rob me... Which is kind of why I..."
"Shot at me?"
"Yes... again, sorry about that." The portly little dog moved back to his cart and began tugging back the coverings that concealed the traders wares. "Why don't you hop up and see what you like?"
Io loved this part, he bounced up onto the cart with glee, making the cart shake.
"Whoa whoa whoa!" The dog waved his paws violently. "Careful! There's a bunch of nitro glycerin in the back that i'm taking up to the mining camp!"
Io had no idea what that meant but moved more gently in any case. He picked out a large antler handled knife, several boxes of matches and a metal pan. He was giddy with excitement, so many peculiar things that he could chose from, he could hardly contain himself. He found a very strange looking pendant, it was carved into the shape of an animal he didn't recognize, it was like a fish with a pointy nose and a tail that was on at the wrong angle. He liked it, so added it to his pile, he found a simple metal bracelet and chucked that down too. There was one box that the dog hadn't uncovered, without thinking and spurred on by the desire to see everything the dog had to offer, he whipped the covering back.
"What are these?" Asked Io, looking into the crate. A dozen furry snake like objects were curled around each other at the bottom of the container, each one matted with dried crimson blood at one end.
"Hmm?" Said the dog, looking up from the watch that he was once again inspecting.
"What're these?" Io repeated gesturing towards the box.
The dog's eyes widened as he realized what the wolf was pointing at. "Oh... one of the mining companies was having some issues with a wolf pack up near Virgil's Pyke, so they put a bounty on them. The guy who took those happens to be wanted himself, so he's paying me to pick up his reward and bring it back to him. The company pays by the tail so..."
Io looked back into the crate one more time then drew the cover back over it. "Do they pay less for the small ones?" Io asked as he hopped down off the cart.
The dog knew better than to answer.

Winter moaned in his arms as loudly as she dared. Their daughter was sleeping soundly only a few feet away, and Winter had no intention of waking her. Io Clenched his paws, grabbing a pawful of fur on either side of her hips, he pulled her back into his lap, trying to slide as much of himself into his mate as he could. This was her favorite way to mate, he knew that, he had tried to roll her over to face him, but she had quietly resisted, and just pressed her butt back against his hips as they lay side by side. He hadn't protested. His paws moved from her hips and gently traced the contours of her taught stomach, brushing through her impossibly soft white fur.
She raised her leg up towards her flank and held it aloft, inviting him to fuck her more freely. "Harder..." She whispered.
He obliged as best he could, driving in and out of her, lost in a flurry of muffled pants and near silent sweet-nothings. Her paw reached pack over her shoulder to caress his neck the metal bracelet he had given her earlier that evening shimmered in the dwindling glow of their dying fire. He nuzzled back into the paw then leaned in to rest his cheek against hers. She bit her lip and whimpered as he forced the thick knot at the base of his glistening red prick lustfully up inside her. Her paws left her face and dashed between her legs, they moved against her sweet sex, massaging her now tender slit in a flurry of movement. as she began to shudder he wrapped his arms around her and squeezed. with a few vigorous pumps he brought himself to his finish, tugging at the inside of her snug sweet hole with his pulsating, knotted cock. Winter reached back with a paw and grabbed Io's rump pulling his hips towards her own, desperate to pull him closer and deeper. Her grip only loosened when they both had rolled down the other side of their orgasms.
They lay still and panting, tied together their respective organs pulsing and twitching with sexual delight. After what felt like a lifetime in heaven Winter finally snuggled back against her mate. "I thought we agreed we weren't gonna tie again till Summer was a bit older..." She whispered.
Io simply nuzzled his mate in return, unwilling and unable to think pragmatically when he was so deliriously happy. After a long pause he finally yawned and said "Worst thing that could happen is Summer gets someone new to play with. "That ain't so bad. Keep her occupied so we can do more fucking." He chortled gently. "Besides, I have a Winter and a Summer, I need a Spring and an Autumn to complete the set."
Winter grinned "I'm not calling a pup 'Spring'." She said, yawning loudly. "Also you're not the one who has to carry em around in your belly for months."
"Aww but you're so sexy when you've got a bump." He said, caressing her belly.
"Fuck off." She said lovingly.
Winter woke up the following morning to the sound of her daughter and mate deep in discussion.
"What is it?" Said the pup, looking down at the necklace her father had placed around her neck, staring at the carved animal pendant that hung from it.
"It's like a fish I think." Said her father.
"What's a fish?" Said the pup.
"It's the slippery little critters that live in the river." Said Io
"Don't know fish." She said.
"What're you talkin' about? Yes you do, you've eaten loads of em!" Said Io
"Nuh uh. You're lying. I'd 'member."
Winter stretched out with a satisfied little moan. "Stop tormenting your dad, and say thank you for the present."
The pup shrugged and reached up, squeezing her father lovingly around the waist. Io patted the small wolf. "You're welcome." He looked to his mate for solace, then froze. She was staring out into the forest, ears pricked body tensed. Io followed her gaze into the trees, but couldn't see anything. Just the last gentle wisps of morning fog curling through the forest.
Winter had always been twitchy, snapping to extreme alertness at the drop of a leaf, but since Summer was born she had gotten far worse, bordering on paranoid. Io watched her calmly, but held his daughter closer never the less.
Her eyes stopped scanning the forest, and locked on something, her stance shifted lowering herself down almost imperceptibly.
Io grabbed for the knife around his waist and pinned his pup against him with his free paw. The youngster had been trained well and fell silent.
Winter's lip twitched, showing her mate a flash of fang. Io still couldn't see what she was looking at, she took a step forward, then flinched as an explosion cracked the silent morning. Bark and wood flew through the air as a musket ball smashed into the trunk of a tree mere feet from where they were standing.
A horn blast shook the forest, followed by another musket shot, which slapped through the leaves above the them.
Winter snarled and made as if to charge off towards her target. She got one step before being yanked backwards, her mate's paw clamped tightly upon her scruff. Io pushed her in the opposite direction, his daughter held tightly in his other arm. Another explosion of wood and another blast of a hunting horn, and suddenly the tiny pack was once again running for it's life. Careening through the trees, they ducked and dove and sprinted for all they were worth, every few moments there would be a crack of a shot. Io's heart would stop until he checked his family was still alive.
They ran for what seemed like an eternity, until they could no longer breathe. Eventually coming to a stop when the trees gave way to a small stream that rolled down the hillside, carving a deep furrow into the terrain. Io passed his crying pup to her mother and wretched, his chest burned from the exertion. He dropped to his knees and pawed the cool water onto his face, sucking down chestfuls of air as quickly as he could.
"What was that?" He said in between ragged breaths.
"Dogs." She gasped. "Damn dogs tried to kill us! What did we do?"
Io remembered the tails in Jacobs cart, made as if to say something but stopped himself. "I dunno." He said. "I just think they hate wolves."
"I hate them!" She howled. "They shot at us! They could of hit Summer!"
"I know!" He gasped. "I was there!"
Winter's breathing was almost back to normal. "But why!?" She said, not expecting an answer.
"Jacob said..." He started.
"What? What did he say?" She snapped.
Io had never seen her beautiful complexion so contorted by rage before. He thought about keeping his mouth shut, but caved when she looked at him. He motioned for her to cover Summer's ears.
"Jacob said, the dog's pay each other for killing wolves. They... he had a load of tails in his cart."
Winter turned and started to walk away from him their daughter bundled up in her arms still whimpering.
He sprung to his feet and followed. "Where are you going?"
"Home!" She yelled. "You knew we weren't safe and you didn't tell me!" Her eyes narrowed to a point, all the fear and anger focused on him.
"I didn't want to scare you!" He said.
"We almost died! We shoulda been nowhere near here!"
Io grabbed at her shoulder.
"We can't go back, Slate will-"
"Fuck Slate!" She snapped. Slate never shot at us. "He's just one wolf, we can stay out of his way. We keep going east we're gonna get run into more and more dogs, and my daughter's tail is not gonna end up on the back of a damn cart!"
"Winter wait! We need our stuff," He gestured back the way they came, "it's gonna be autumn again soon-"
"You are not going back for that junk!" She snapped. "They'll kill you! You can't possibly be that stupid!"
Io's ears flattened. "We can wait for night time."
"I am not stopping anywhere near here. I'm taking my daughter as far away as possible. Come or don't... we're leaving."
They walked until the sun began to set and the sky turned a sickly pink. There was barely a word exchanged between the the two adults. Summer had recovered from the shock of it all far quicker than her mother, and trotted happily between them. As the last light threatened they came across a well worn road that passed through a cut in the hillside. Between the trees on the nearside of the track, two dog's in dirty brown coats sat, chatting happily, around a freshly set fire, surrounded by bags of supplies and assorted prospecting gear. Io flattened himself against the ground, Summer followed suit.
"I can't see a way round-" He started to whisper, but soon realized his mate wasn't by his side. He looked on in horror as he saw her slowly walking directly towards them.
"-Okay look here, I'm mongrel, right? I don't belong to none of these posh ol' breed houses, so mayhaps i'm biased, but I've never fucked a posh bitch that screwed half as good as even the laziest mongrel whore." Said the old dog flicking his lopsided ear back from his face, and gestured to his compatriot a scrawny young male with jagged uncaring features.
"Of course whores fuck better you idiot, they want your money. Besides all I said was I thought the black and tan bitches they have over in Galisberg are fucking tasty." Said the smaller male. "I didn't want a lecture on-" both turned when they heard a twig snap in the brush.
"He'o?" Came a soft feminine voice.
"Who's there?" responded the elder dog.
"-Girl dog-" Came the response, after some delay.
"Come out here so we can see ya, don't skulk around in the shadow." Both of the dogs rose to their feet uneasily.
"I come, Don't hurt girl dog?"
"Sure," said the smaller male. Moving his paw ever so slightly nearer to his flintlock pistol.
Winter stepped out from behind a large fir tree, and waved. "He'o" She said in her thickly accented attempt to speak the common dog tongue.
"She's a fucking wolf!" Said one of the dogs.
"I can see that!" The other replied
"Well then fucking shoot it."
"No, no,no Don't hurt girl dog, I friendly, I friendly!"Winter squeaked and covered her eyes with her paws.
The older dog looked her up and down, gazing hungrily at her lithe naked young body.
"We ain't gonna shoot ya girl." He said, a predatory smirk on his lips.
"Why the fuck not?" Said the other.
The older dog shot him a glance. "Cos I said so." He turned back to the young wolfess. "You want some food?"
Winter nodded and patted her belly. "Hungry."
"Well why don't you come over here then?" the old dog stooped down and reached into his pack, which lay on the ground by their camp fire, rising a moment later with a hunk of cured meat in his paw
"What're you doing?" Said the younger one,
"Trying to have a little fun, a bitch is a bitch after all." The older one shrugged.
Winter stepped up closer to him and reached out to take the morsel of food. But the dog moved his paw away, she stepped in closer and reached for it again. The older dog gave it to her, reaching out with his other paw he grabbed her bare rump and pulled her tight up to him.
Winter giggled, her ears perking up, she nibbled sweetly at the food. "You think girl dog is pretty?" she asked.
"I do." He said
"You hunt wolf?" she asked.
"Only the ugly ones."
The younger male rolled his eyes and sat back down. "You're fucking disgusting." he said. "You're honestly gonna fuck this heathen?"
"Can you not ruin this for me? I haven't so much as seen a female in 3 months." He responded.
The wolfess leaned in and kissed him on the lips, his cock stiffened instantly, his paw reached down between her legs, and grabbed roughly at her.
An ear shattering crack pulled him from his lustful stupor in an instant. He opened his eyes, half expecting to be kissing a dead wolf. He turned to the other male, and froze once he saw the hole where the dog's face used to be. He reached for the pistol that was strapped to his waist only to find it missing. A moment later he found it again, as winter brought it crashing down against the side of his skull.
Io hadn't known what to do, he'd watched the sequence of events utterly baffled by his mates behavior, knowing that his sudden appearances would put her in severe danger he had hid, terrified among the brush, until the sound of a gunshot drove him to his feet and hurtling towards the danger.
It was over by the time he arrived. His perfect, white furred, angel was sat by the two males she had killed, once more splattered with red.
"Why did you do that?" he asked "They didn't do anything to-"
"So what?!" she snapped, tears in her eyes. "We didn't do anything to Slate, and he tried to kill you. We didn't do nothing to those wolves, and they tried to kill both of us. And we didn't do nothing to any dog ever, and they tried to kill you me and Summer! Who cares!? No more!" She grabbed the old dog's pack and thrust it at Io. "And now you don't have to go back for our things, we have new things."
Without thinking Io threw his arms around her and squeezed her tight. She tried to push him away, gave up, buried her face in his fur and quietly began to sob.
