Survive
A post apocalyptic world where everyone scavenges to survive and with a drug that's slowly killing you inside, life looks fleeting and turns your mind set entirely.
Hello! This is a very _very _long story commission done for http://www.furaffinity.net/user/fallmaster37/
All characters belongs to the commissioner himself and should not be used without consent. I had the privilege to write this emotional story and let me just say... I have invested more emotions that I should while writing this. I hope you guys will as well.
A note to all readers that's looking for sex in the story, it's not the usual kind of story that I write because the juicy parts are in between and far at the end of the story. Very plot heavy.
Survive
Life is hard and let nobody tell you that life was ever easy but you know what makes life even harder? Survivability: survival of the fittest. Scavenging for food and shelter in this barren land that life shouldn't have even existed, a part that I didn't want to be of. The air was poisonous as it is, dead bodies scattered everywhere as far as the eyes can see or in this case, my eyes. Those movies that I've seen constantly, every other night about post apocalyptic ventures, how the main character survives on television... I can't believe that this was happening to me.
My feet hurt but I had to stay strong or else I'd be dead by sundown. Food, I need to find food. Oh and water, yes definitely water. The cracks on my lips were eminent and proved very much how barren this land is. Buildings started to collapsed, brick after brick from the highest peak and there's nothing anyone can do about it. Eyes squinted; I saw the rows of shops that I had discovered yesterday. For now, it was pretty much open season. The shops were pretty much dead, the streets dead, no one in their cars and every single flora and fauna of this land was dead.
I was alone, hiding within the darkness and alley, hoping to hope that no one will find me but my instincts were good enough to keep me on the alert. Pushing my luck, I tried to unhook the backdoor of a grocery store. A single click of the door made me whoop in triumphant inside but I had to be quiet, more so knowing that someone might be lurking around. Lady luck was on my side when I saw how stacked up the aisle were, not to mention a shopping cart right beside. My canid stomach growled in demand, wanted to be fed as soon as possible.
Without hesitation, I grabbed the nearest food I could find - edible at least - and wolfed down everything within my paw. It tasted so good... like how food should have tasted. I literally cried inside when the first taste of sweetness invaded my taste buds like a blanket of warmth, as if like my body finally knew what food finally was. I have been in the streets for several months now and the last good meal was weeks ago and that so call 'meal' was actually a can of cold baked beans. Living off can foods like that will give you a hard time digesting but it was to survive.
Grabbed on to another and then another. My dried throat finally quenched with an entire bottle of water. As much as I'd love to have sugared water like a soda, I have yet to lose my mind on food nutrition. Kids nowadays only wanted junk food or things that are filled with sodium. Tasty yes but zero nutritional value and being in my current situation, I'd rather be on the alert. My body accepted every mouthful with gratitude, finally revitalized out of sheer weakness. I looked around, still munching down a loaf of bread; it was going to be dangerous to come back here.
The convenient shopping cart nearby finally filled to the brim with every stack of food I could grab on to. Can foods, breads, biscuit, bottle water; basically the essentials. I dared to look out to the streets and fortunately; no one was spying in the store. For that very moment, I sat next to the trolley, back towards the cracked wall, old and rusted, eyes closed and sniffled. A single tear dropped on to my lap, memories of the past few months invaded my mind and till today, I could not believe what had happened to my life. No, not just mine but the life of many others.
Friends and family were lost, many innocent lives were taken and the ones who did it never had a single sense of remorse for those affected. The day my life crumbled was the day I'd never forget. In that very instant, I cried even harder, cupped my dirty paw against my muzzle to soften whatever sadness I could mutter out. Weep I did for there wasn't anyone around any longer, no one to care and no one to count on: I was alone and terrified. Hugged at my unkempt tail, I soothed myself off the sadness. My red wolf fur completely disheveled and I smelt of sulfur and several other scents that I didn't know off. Shirts torn in every manner possible and I was left with nothing but ragged clothes; not to mention my pants as well.
I soaked myself with tears but stopped abruptly when I heard the door opened. At that very moment, I was on the alert with ears perked up. My right paw scrambled to hold on to anything I could defend myself with, something hard and strong, something that could help me survive from the attacker. Again, lady luck was on my side when I found a metal wrench on the dirty floor. It wasn't much but enough to get me out of here. Cart filled with food by the side, I was ready to make a run for it.
My grip held tight, breathed heavily with fur standing on end, on the prowl always. I hid behind the cart, ready to strike when the time comes. Heart raced like a hundred kilometers per hours. I should have been trained for this by now. Months of being in this situation, fought of several others in the battle of the fittest; I should be able to win this. Several possibilities crossed through my mind. The what ifs, the what not, the whys; I was beginning to sweat.
The door handle jiggled for a while, opened up and an unknown figure walked in. Right, only one because the door was closed shut after that. Male? Female? I didn't know but I know the intruder was also on the alert. The way it moved from left to right, slowly crept about like a thief; exactly like how I turned out to be. I was ready to strike. When he came in view, it was a male. Fur blue in colour with gray undertones and light blue highlights around his body. Dressed pretty much like mine: torn and ragged.
He looked about, sniffed and when he thought the coast was cleared, the male started grabbing food like there's no tomorrow. Oh god... just like me. He's just another fur trying to survive. I could pair up with him and go on together but through this entire ordeal, I found that the only one you can ever trust is yourself. Every man for himself and I wanted to keep it that way.
"I'm sorry..." I muttered to myself, hoping he wouldn't have listened.
Gingerly moved across the area, left my hiding spot and revealed for the man to see if he ever turned, it was now or never. Somehow, I was slow in my strike, too slow in fact. Within that split second, my prey managed to dodge in time without hesitation and as he turned to face me, we looked at each other with sweated looks. Pale and uncertain, confused and bewildered, he looked at me in panted breathes.
"Please! I-I am here for food! There's more than enough for both of us! Please... I beg of you. Just let me take what I needed and I'll be off. Please..." he cried with chocked words, backed to a wall with nothing to defend himself. I saw that his paws scrambled around the floor to find anything to strike back but somehow, I never retaliate. Instead I stood there with squinted eyes.
"I know you..." A hybrid of canine and feline, his fur blue and underneath his ragged shirt had gray undertones and light blue highlights. Just like mine, his pants suffered pretty much the same ordeal and I couldn't blame him for what he had gone through. His face was rather familiar somewhat... as if I knew him from somewhere... His cheeks puffed in gray and still that light blue fur underneath that covered the rest of his head, that single black line from his nasal to the back of his head. That streak!
I snapped immediately. "John Basu?? Are you seriously kidding me?!"
"W-Who are you?! How do you know me?"
Terrified and confused, this was an emotional roller coaster ride. Days after days, weeks after weeks, months after months; unknown to anyone, I finally knew someone. "Oh Gods John!" I hugged him immediately.
I wept as I did so. The warm hug of another fur has been lost for so long that I couldn't remember what it felt like. John was here. For a million years I wouldn't have thought that we'd crossed paths before. The hybrid male accepted my advances and we held there for a few seconds, not knowing what to do but stayed like this for a while. John pushed me away for a second and tried to recollect any memories he had with me and I knew for certain that he couldn't remember who I am.
"Pyxe...? Pyxe from camp base Mercury? Are you shitting me right now?"
Looks like I was wrong.
"You remember," I sniffled a little. "You remember me. I thought with everything that has happened, all hope is lost,"
The feeling of seeing another fur was overwhelming. Being alone out here was truly terrifying and after so long, I've finally found someone to talk to. We sat there, at the corner, trying to keep composed after having me nearly striking him down. If I knew it was him, I wouldn't have tried doing that but hey, I did what I needed to do. I apologized profusely and he accepted it gracefully.
"As much as I'd wanted to celebrate our little reunion, I think its best we start packing whatever food we needed and get the fuck out of here." I got up and got another cart for him.
"I believe so. I thought I was about to die from hunger but when I found this place, I hit the jackpot. Oh this juice is so good." John quickly trashed anything of everything he could get his paws on and haphazardly dropped them off into the cart.
It didn't take more than thirty minutes and we were out quietly through the back. Once again, lady luck was on my side and we bumped into no danger. The outside world was bleak and unruly and as I've said before, the streets are pretty much dead. We walked side by side with our carts, the cracks and crinkle of wheels over stones could be heard and we tried to be as quick as we could. Looked back at John, memories of him began to flood my mind and I couldn't help but reminiscence about everything that had come to this.
My childhood life has been a massive roller coaster ride. Was and will always be the odd one out. Teachers constantly tell me that I don't necessarily need to fit in to be good because each and every one of us is unique in our own way. Mine was just very different from the rest. Due to this difference, I was basically the bullies' punching bag. Every night would be a night of tears and at times, my parents weren't there to soothe my suffering. Then high school happened and for that exact moment of time in my life, I thought I could turn things around but I was so very wrong. It was the very same and after high school, I was drafted to military school.
Was it any different there? Yes, yes it was. I had plenty of fun in the military and there's where I met John Basu. He was my roommate and we basically did things together most of the time. Of course, plenty of the other troops jeered at us for being stickier than super glue. Heck, some even proclaimed that we were gay men dating each other! It was, of course, mere trash talk but none of them were true. John Basu saved me plenty of times and not just my life, but my social well being as well.
After our time there had ended, we went out and got into our very own lives. We reconnected every now and then but after a while, we drifted apart. One was too busy for the other and vice versa. In the end, we talked less and less.
"So how's life?" He joked away all of a sudden.
It was enough to break me off from my reverie as I looked at him with the utmost ridiculous face I could muster. "Great! I was about to move to a new place with a new job that gave me better opportunities but I guess things happen. Oh you know the usual, life always gives us lemons."
He chuckled. "Oh yes, definitely the lemons. So... um... do you... um... where are we going exactly?"
"Back to my place," I pointed straight ahead to a bunch of broken brick walls covered with ashes and broken ceiling. A makeshift cardboard box covered the 'door' to protect from intruders but I knew very well that this was just a day or two temporary stay before I had to find another.
"Oh, I didn't know you had a place to stay..." he said as we continued our forlorn journey.
"It wasn't easy to find but bear in mind that it's only for the night. Tomorrow we'll have to find another."
We tried to be as quiet as possible and did whatever we can to conceal our presence. Night was beginning to fall and it's far more dangerous to be out here when it gets harder to see. John placed himself next to me, we looked at each other and couldn't help but laughed at our predicament.
"This is a fucked up life, isn't it..." He quipped while unraveled a bar of chocolate which was quickly washed down with his favourite juice.
"You have no idea how fucked up this place is right now," I got my own food and started chewing away as he talked the night off, explored what possibilities we may have tomorrow.
Up until now, I haven't even described what the real problem here was. It came in that very afternoon with nothing but a warning from a radio. I was back at home with my parents and sibling and my dad called on to us to pack the essentials and get our fucking asses out of the house. The government had warned that an impending nuclear explosion was going to hit the country and explained that it was necessary in order to stop a mass spreading of diseases that had hit our lovely country. Killing a pawful is better than killing off everybody and I was in that small part of 'pawful' as they put it.
What was there to be done? The fact that we didn't even know that there was an incurable disease spreading across the place was an utter surprise and the other fact that a nuclear was coming our way, it was unimaginable! A state of emergency was declared and at that very moment, hours later, an explosion could be heard from a distance and my family was desperately trying to hide under the basement. Unfortunately, time wasn't on our side. The entire neighbourhood exploded and everything crumbled to nothing.
I watched as the ceiling fell from above and crushed my dad. His cries were the last of his voice and words were to stay safe and stay alive; everyone died but me. It was hours then that I tried to resuscitate my beloved family that it was all for naught. I saw other furs trying to get out from the crumbled mess. Some survived... others... not so much.
If that wasn't bad enough, we were hit with another realization that the nuclear explosion had in fact some sort of poisonous substances that could kill us all if the bombing didn't its job. The survivors that I traveled with to find shelter and help died one by one on the ground. We were stunned and just couldn't do anything. I was no doctor and neither are any of them. You have no idea how heart breaking it was to see everyone dying in front of you. The tears were never-ending and in the end, what matters most was our very own well being.
Life is amazing, isn't it? It was all a bed of roses for some but in that split second, you could lose it all. I never had the luck and it just turned even worst when everything ended. I couldn't do anything at that point. Day and night I scavenged for food and sought shelter from others but no more than a day. As I've said before, again and again, the streets were barren and dead bodies laid everywhere and this was all caused by the nuclear bombing. I didn't know if the government did the right thing or not but one thing is for certain, we have no government or help from the outside world. All we had was ourselves and no other means of telecommunication; we were more or less left to die from this disease.
Another thing I found from the side effect combined from the already dead ridden disease and poison. Some furs had claimed a certain mutation to them that made them partially dead. Well, more like the living dead to be precise. Zombie movies anyone? It was like being a part of the scary horror movie that you watched with a bunch of friends during movie night and guess what? You die from such things. I wouldn't want to go into details as to what they looked like but it's not a pretty sight.
When morning came, John and I had to move and leave for a better and safer spot. We managed to snatch some pretty cool looking bags and stuffed everything we could into them.
"So you do this every day?" John stretched his sore body.
"Plundering stores and stealing food? Why yes, that's what I do for a living, literally." I hauled my pack up.
"Ohhhh... feisty. Got up in the bad side of bed?"
"Fuck off, John," I jabbed at him. "Come on. We need to get a move on before others come to find us. Wanna go visit the grocery store one more time to grab some last minute stuff?"
"Shopping! How lovely! It's like old times, huh?"
One thing about John was how lame and yet, funny he was. He makes up for being a really good friend and to be honest, I love a lot of things about him but not in the lovey dovey kind of way but more towards being just friends. I prefer that way than sexual. Then again, that's all in the past. Now, we're all just trying to make it through the next day.
We backtracked towards the store like I did but this time, with a bag partially full of essentials. Food was beginning to get scarce and it's better to be safe than sorry.
"So John, you haven't told me how you managed to make through the day with food before meeting up with me. What happened?" I munched on my breakfast as we trot along the broken road.
"It was hard. The stores that I know off were empty and nothing was left except scraps and that's basically how I lived on through the day. I had to fight and let me tell you, these guys don't know shit about CQC. Glad we went to military school."
"I see. It's not a walk in the park for me either way and to be honest, I'm glad we bumped into each other." I said.
"Eh, I had a car with me before this until the gas died down."
"What the fuck?" I stared right at him, "There's a gas station down the road! Let's get some and start that piece of junk and get out of here!"
"Sorry but no can do bud," John said with the straightest face I had ever seen. "The borders are closed and at the end of it, there are armed forces standing guard. Anyone within sight will be shot and they don't care if you're infected with the disease or not. All they wanted is you being dead and that's that. Don't think I haven't thought of it but we're pretty much in an enclosed and rather well guarded area."
All hopes of leaving this place turned bleak in a snap.
"They wanted all of us dead and the outside world very much knows that we can't run away from them. They're waiting it out for about a year or so before invading through this city again. By then, most of us would be left for dead. If the disease didn't kill us, the poisonous gas that blasted through the entire country will do."
"How do you know so much?" I asked.
"I was at the base camp for a week and that's all the information I gathered while I was there. Didn't last for long because our perfect little hiding spot was discovered and everyone was immediately shot. Somehow, I was lucky enough to find a perfect hiding spot and escaped. There's where I stole the car and drove all the way back to the main city. It's better to be here than there."
I could see the look of sadness in his eyes and the cracked voice as he described every single one of his encounters. We're pretty much in the same boat but he had it tougher. Here I am, complaining to myself how bad this is going to be but to be honest, I bet there are others out there that aren't fortunate as we are. We continued talking but always on the alert and as we reached towards our destination, our ears dropped.
The store was fully raided and everything was taken away. Crackers, milk, chocolate bar, energy bars, bottled water, biscuits, meat; everything! That's when my senses start kicking in. "Let's get the fuck out of here, now."
We ran off quickly without a trace, hoping no one had discovered our getaway. Miles after that, we were out of breathe. At least for now, we had some food along that could keep us going for about a week, two if we rationed properly. As we stopped to catch our breath, we looked at each other and stifled a guffaw. I had no idea what was so funny but it just was. Life was just a bag full of surprises. Oh and suffering, don't forget that.
The fire cackled and sprung to life when I poked right at it with a stick, hoped that that would sustain its life even longer. Heat from the fire helped tremendously in keeping us warm during this cold weather. Personally, I wouldn't have lighted one since it might attract others but we were kinda getting cold. Also, our food needed to be cooked apparently. We decided to have those that needed cooking out of the way first before moving on with more canned food. I sighed at that thought. I missed my mum's cooking or any other cooking for that matter. Real food...
Sooner or later, everything canned will be finished off and we'll all be left with nothing. I highly doubt that vegetables or any kind of raring meat will be able to survive in this environment. Evidently, the only meat available... is us and with that outcome, we might turn into the feral creatures that our ancestors used to be, eating off others. Cannibals? Probably. The mere thought of it sent shivers down my spine.
"Hey, how's it going?" John nudged at me as he sat right beside.
"Oh, going great. Foods going to be ready in a few," I looked at the heated pan and the fragrance from the meat was definitely overpowering, "Not much of a chef in this condition but I can tell you right now that it's going to taste like shit. There's no salt or pepper or any kind of condiment added in."
John chuckled away, "That thing ain't gonna stop me from eating cooked food. Don't you remember our days at base camp? Shit man! We cooked in the wild without any proper utensils. That shit was crazy man."
"Yeah that was crazy. It tasted like shit and yet we ate that and that's because if we didn't, there's nothing else to eat."
The hybrid nodded. "Mmmhmmm. So whatever you've cooked up here, I bet it's not half bad as the sergeant's cooking."
"Oh my God," I literally face palmed myself. "He can't cook to save his life! Seriously, who the fuck burns down a kettle while boiling water, huh? It's just water!"
He laughed away. "Water my ass! Remember when he tried to cook in the wild? His meat was burnt to a crisp!"
"Hehehe... and I had to make a new one for him or else it will be 'rookie give me 50' kind."
"Hey, that stuff toughened us up and I was glad that that happened," John peered over to the cooked meat, "Looks good."
"Shut up and give this a taste, will ya'," I handed over to him and took a bite right off. "So?"
"Needs more salt, kinda bland." He joked and acted like a connoisseur in action, giving me a zero star critic.
"Well deal with it. That's all you're having for dinner," I bite off part of my portion eagerly, "Fuck, needs more salt."
John wanted to say something but I pointed right at him to shut up. We ate in silence with the fire in the middle, wood crackled away as it burned down to provide heat for the both of us. I threw in another fire hazardous wood and watched it burn... just like my house. No, it didn't burn, the place literally collapsed. That image will forever be embedded in my mind and it was at that exact moment that John saw my emotions welling up.
"Pyxe... Hey, bud. It's going to be alright...."
I looked at him and shook my head. "No it's not going to be alright. We're going to die eventually. If not from the poison slowly creeping up to us, probably our sanity,"
"Pyxe, I know it's hard but sometimes we have to do what we need to do to survive. I didn't like where this whole thing was going but you don't see my past pushing me around. Look, I've been thinking and maybe... perhaps this might be the only way to get through this." From the sound of his voice, he seemed certain.
"If you mean trying to cross the border like you did, I did think of it before. It's risky but if we're cautious and - "
I was interrupted when a single finger was placed in between my lips. "Pyxe, hush,"
At that very moment, I thought we were found out and had to make a break for it but John wasn't making any haste. "Pyxe, remember what we talked just now, perhaps going through the jungle is a better idea."
That point struck a chord. "Wait, you mean the jungle that we set our base camp in? The one that's not very far away? The one that I fell trying to cross a log. That one?"
He nodded and left me to think about it. It was a terrible idea, a horrible one! And yet, a plausible one. All this time, we've been trying to fend each other off in the city with modern lives, running away as and when we needed to but never has it occurred to me that the jungle may be the best place to set up a good spot and place to live in. It wouldn't be the best but it's better than getting fucked up in the streets.
As I remembered correctly, that very jungle was safe and considered one of the protected forests around the very area. Development and modernization of our lives has left the trees to suffer and we're basically out of fresh air. Due to that, it was a preserved area that no one was supposed to mess around with but military schools were given the green light to make full use of it for training. Food might be a problem though but perhaps it's best to think about getting over there first before anything else.
John had the same sentiment and in the end, we agreed to make our next destination towards our old base camp. It wasn't very far from where we already are. In fact, it was a good twenty minutes walking distance from where my house was. There were several times where I thought I'd sneak back home from all the harsh training because, well, I just wanted a good bed to sleep in during my first few weeks.
"Come on, finish up and rest," John chugged down half a bottle of water, "We have a long day ahead of us. Keep up the energy and put out that fire."
I rolled my eyes. "Oh yes my great king."
The male glared at me and smile. "Yes, bow down before your king."
"Pfft! A king with ragged clothing? Naw, I'd rather not." Dismissed that fact and started clearing out the fire.
"Hey hey, this accentuates my masculinity." He did a poor description of a double bicep curl pose like a body builder. "This is how a king should be."
"Put those away and get to sleep." I smiled and stretched my body up. To be honest, John wasn't bad looking even during our military days. He was scrawny at first but packed quite a good amount of muscle when we were there. I saw how much he'd grown and quickly developed himself. Meanwhile, I wasn't as lucky as him. My metabolism burned food faster than I could feed it but that didn't mean I was a stick man.
Like him, military did wonders and I packed quite a lot myself but compared to John, not so much. As we grew older, the canine feline hybrid garnered quite a lot of attention from both higher uppers and lowers with the point that he was getting buffer by the month. Some thought he was juicing up but being with him twenty four seven, he wasn't doing that at all. Perhaps in a way, I was a little attracted towards him.
When we woke up to another day, I thanked profusely to the heavenly skies that we were still alive. John was awake as well and already packed up. Even during military, he was always the first to be awake. Habits are hard to die I guess. I prodded over to the dying fire from the previous night and scattered the ashes around to cover up our traces, hopefully no one would be following us but from the corner of my eye, I saw something on the ground. On closer inspection, it looked red and liquid and the scent was definitely blood. I couldn't identify if it was blood from our meal prior or just juice but one thing was for sure, it was fresh.
Was John bleeding or is he hurt? Or was it from me? Someone else?
It troubled me and I kept thinking about it during our travels. I wanted to ask John but he seemed to be quite happy walking down the streets that held nothing more than ruins and ashes. The air was thick and smelt burn, probably an after effect from the nuclear explosion but that didn't deter our movements. Of course, my lungs burned from inhaling too much of it and honestly speaking, I knew I won't have much time right now. I could feel the poison creeping up within my veins.
"Hey Pyxe, we're getting close to your home," John pointed to the far end, "Wanna give it a visit?"
The memories from the whole incident swept through my mind and I held back a tear. I swore to myself that I wouldn't come back here, to this place of pain and misery but fate had a funny way of bringing us back together and for once, I was kind of glad it did. I nodded and walked right towards the familiar lane that I took every other day during high school. The kids would be playing right about now and Ms. Hadger from the far corner would be outside drinking her English Tea. Mr. Shawn watering his favourite plant and yelling at kids that just wouldn't leave his place alone. Mr. Cral busy at his wood work, constantly pounding away with a hammer.
It was all too much.
Then it hit me. It literally hit me in the heart when I remembered the word 'divorce'. If up till now you'd think that I had a pretty good family with a loving parent and siblings, you thought wrong; though I wouldn't have blamed you if you did. Sure, we had our good times and that very last day was one of those days where dad and mum would come together to see the children. We were under the custody of my mum since dad wasn't capable of doing it and honestly, I wanted to be with none of them. I was old enough to make my decision but my brothers and sisters were still below the legal age to make any decisions. In the end, I took on the role of the big brother with logical sense by staying together with them.
Dad wasn't happy at first but few years later, he accepted this path and visited occasionally. He didn't re-marry after the divorce but we had some good times as a family. Like I said, fate had a funny way of bringing things back together. On the day they died, it was dad's final goodbye before he'd fly off to another country for better job opportunities. He said he'll get me a new car when that happens and I was holding on to that hope. Mum didn't approve of course but that's just me.
My parents fought day in day out before the divorce and I had to protect my siblings from knowing the truth. They were scared but I was there to tell them otherwise. I was bad at sugar coating but I did what I needed to. That's when I got drafted to military camp, meeting up with everyone else; life was great...
The damn of tears broke and I cried to my knees when I saw the same ruins that my house was. Everything crumbled and nothing else mattered. The more I thought about the past, the harder it was to keep everything in and I let it all flow. John held me tight and used every word and charisma he had to console the fuck out of me. This was my first tragic event and to lose everyone in one day was truly devastating. I should have died in that very same instance, in that very same crumble of death. Dad's word of 'be safe' meant nothing when you have no one in your life. For the first time ever, I finally found the true meaning of loneliness.
Familiar road, familiar structures and familiar training ground; we were back here at military camp. As expected, no welcome party but just stares of abandonment. It used to be busy with troops running around and trying their best to stay alive. Shouts of several sergeants used to echo these very places but only the deafening silence was there. To make things worse, it looked kind of like those horror stories where a serial killer could pop up at any time.
John probably felt my impending fear and held my paw, gripped as tight as possible to soothe his own trepidation. We walked down the road and like before, everything within the past kept coming back.
"Remember that office? We used to trick Commander Aaron during lunch time." I pointed to the upper left of the building.
"Hah! I remember that one so well. Oh and that!" Pointed to the other end, "You still got your dog tags?"
I rummaged through my pocket and took out my wallet. "You mean this?"
John gave me a friendly punch. These were practically our very own identify while we were here. Everything came down to our dog tags and I was proud to get one. It made me feel like I had a place to belong to, a place that I can call home if anything bad were to happen. These were the very same words during our last week of military school. Every one of us had bonded well enough with the trainers that we considered each and every one as family and this place as our second home. Some had came back when life back at home wasn't doing well and in the end, turned out to be great trainers.
"Imagine at that very moment, we were given the option to come back here and consider this place home. Well, now is a good time as ever."
The hybrid took out his tag with the name 'John Basu' inscribed on it. "Yeah... Now is a good time as ever."
"Come on. I know where the kitchen is. We need some new supplies pronto." I pulled him over and we jogged towards the military kitchen. Fun times were had here, definitely a good place to remember. Sometimes the food was shit but other times it weren't but one thing is for certain, the company was never dull.
Just as my wolf paws opened the very door, it smelt nothing like the kitchen we used to remember of but that's to be expected from everything that's been happening. Everyone had taken flight and gone off for safety, probably to the borders to run or escape but we knew how that would have ended for us if we followed along. Pots and pans scattered everywhere, dust covered the entire table and nothing seemed to be working. The cupboards opened and we found some canned food but with different flavour. At least we had something else in paw before heading out to the woods.
A loud noise made me jump in fear, my fur stood on end and ears heightened up, fighting stance at the ready whenever danger was to strike. John did the same but was glued to a certain pan that had dropped from the table.
"Mother fucking Christ, John! You scared the shit out of me! I nearly crap my pants!" I clutched on to my chest.
"Sorry sorry! My bag accidentally knocked it down,"
Both of our hearts were thumping like mad from that very scare and that was the worst kind. Another loud crash and this time, I glared at him angrily. "John, why don't you go to the tower and blow the fucking horn to say that you're here, huh? Are you crazy?!" I was half shouting by now.
"It wasn't me! I swear! Someone is here. I swear that's not me." He grabbed on to the nearest weapon, which was a knife apparently, and got ready to strike.
I did the very same and looked around 360 degrees. If what he said was true, we might be in dire danger. We were back to back, looked out for each other and the danger that might come forth. My fears were realized when two figures crawled out from under the cooking area. For that very brief moment, I saw everything. Their faces were pale and the look of hunger was imminent in their eyes. Skin peeled off horribly with blood oozing out of their faces. Flesh could be seen and their bodies looked as if they were mutilated and mauled by the wild animals.
The room was immediately hit with the smell of open wound and flesh, like a dead corpse coming to life: they were the living dead.
"So this is what happens to furs that were infected with the disease, huh?"
I gulped a mouthful of saliva. "I think that and with the combination of the poisonous gas, it makes you crazy."
"Let's just fucking get out of here." John was right.
I had seen enough zombie movies to know how slow they could walk but these kinds were different and I saw it first paw. We were headed to the door when one of them jumped across the room and blocked our only way of escape. The two snared and hissed at us, eager to sink their teeth into our flesh and fur. One of them muttered 'food food food' and from there on, I knew they were hungry for meat.
With only knives and melee attacks in hand, I wouldn't dare to strike because god knows what we might get from touching these things. They weren't even living beings at this point and I'd rather call them IT than anything else.
"Get ready to get your paws dirty cause unless you want to die right here, we ain't gonna come out of this alive without a fight." John grabbed hold of a pan and held it up like a shield.
I gulped and nodded, taking my own piece of protection as well. "You take the one on the left and I'll deal with the right."
"Wait, why do I have to take the left?"
"Are you seriously negotiating this right now with me?"
"Oh just wanted to be funny since you are my only audience and if I ever died right here, at least I knew I died funny."
He was right. As much as it pained me to accept the harsh reality, there was a possibility for us to just die right here. Even if we weren't killed right on the spot, their bites or whatever diseases that they might have on them could be transmitted to us easily and by then, we'll probably die a slow and painful, not to mention agonizing, death. One of them charged right at me and I was quick enough to dodge and smacked its head with my weapon. The loud clang of metal reverberated within the room and dare I say, it was loud enough to catch on to any wandering assaulters.
"We should have gone to the armory first and get some fucking weapon," I stared down at my opponent, ready if it were to make another quick attack.
"Let's put it this way, we'll take note of that now and go over there later and stock up." John gave a loud grunt and kicked the creature down and at that exact moment, its arm dislodged and ripped right off. The stench was foul! I held and clenched my stomach to stop myself from vomiting. Shit is getting nastier by the second.
My enemy attacked once more and with all the strength that I could muster out, I managed to crack its backbone and it stopped dead in its tracks. The cracking of bones made me cringed but I was never remorseful or felt any apathy towards it. The creature gargled and muttered something that I couldn't make of. Seems like I was done on my end and judging from John's heated breath, he finished it off as well.
I looked at him, both of us cold sweat at how we were going to survive. This was my first ever close encounter with such creature and I'd never wanted to make do with this event ever again. Somehow, my wish was never answered. That's when I heard more moans and this time, two more clambered from down under.
"Shit!"
Bang!! Bang!!
"Fucking geezus!!" John cried out at the sudden echo of gun shot.
I nearly pissed my pants when I heard those shots as well and it wasn't from afar because standing right at the doorstep of the kitchen was a large brawny husky, holding on to a shot gun. "Get the fuck out of here or you'd rather die here, be my guest."
He doesn't need to tell me twice. Both of us ran out and we met another three guys. From the looks of it, they were military men but there wasn't time to ask any questions or make judgement. With haste, we ran off towards a safe spot while another assisted his friend to kill any of those creatures off; my heart raced with every step and not knowing when to stop. John probably felt the same way because we were tugged aside and thrown into a room where the two of my saviours had locked the door.
None of us said anything except trying to catch our breath. One of them held close to door, a fox that was much smaller in terms of size compared to the others. When we heard the telltale signs of footsteps, he opened and in ran the other two, doors locked shut, and we were trapped inside.
A lion grabbed on to my collar and spat at my face, "Did you get bitten? Did they even touch you? Do you feel any pain? You! Do you feel any discomfort?"
"My ass does hurt from that fall but - "
"Do I look like I'm playing games you son of a bitch!" He roared.
"No! I don't feel any pain or discomfort. We didn't get bitten and neither did they touch us. We used fucking pans to knock them out. Geez. What's your problem man?" John had the gale to backtalk against the group of men that practically saved our lives.
I sat next to him and held him close. "We're okay. Please, don't kill us."
This was what I'm afraid of. This wasn't the first that I've landed my ass against situations like this. From experience, what I've learned was make them know that you're the victim here and let them do as they pleased. I presume that he was the alpha lion since he questioned us as so but I couldn't be too sure. The lion spat at the ground. "What are you doing here?"
"We wanted to see if there's any food left..."
"Well fat chance, food is ours. It's every man for himself," the husky with the gun pointed right at us.
"You just came at a bad time..." the rhino muttered out. "You should have left when you had the chance. We're leaving tomorrow and we're not taking you along."
"We don't expect you to but please, let us stay for the night." I braved myself with every little hope that I cling on to that they will allow us to sleep here.
The lion looked over to his comrades, none of them said a word but soon, an affirmation that we could stay came from his mouth. I relaxed and gripped on to John's sweaty paws. I knew he was afraid, just as much as I do and there's nothing we could do to make it any better. Now, we were in the hands of these four men and like I said prior, they looked like military men. Their green suits were a dead giveaway but I couldn't pinpoint if they belonged to this base or not. Perhaps they were merely outsiders that came in at a bad time... or maybe... I shook my head and tried to think but I was too tired and dizzy to make any sense of it.
Somehow, our safe spaced seemed to be in a barrack and there were more than enough beds to go along. We segregated ourselves from the ruffians but somehow, I couldn't keep my eyes away from the male husky. John somehow saw the look in my eyes and nudged towards me as he placed his bag towards mine. "What are you looking at?"
"Huh? Oh nothing," of course I was lying and he knew it. "Just thinking back of our days in the military and... reminiscing about a certain canine... that... I had a crush on."
"Shhhhiiittt. This is some juicy gossip. You never told me about me," apparently, he wanted to be fed on stuff like this.
"Fuck off, John," I pushed him lightly.
"Come on, tell me about this guy. Was it that hunky Doberman captain? You were ogling at him all the while during drills." The hybrid was pushing his luck.
I rolled my eyes but he wasn't wrong about the ogling part. Yeah, I kept constant checks at some males but this particular canine caught me eyes ever since I met him. As we lay down and I told my story, John nodded away with great interest.
I remembered every single hour, days and months whenever I had a chance to be with him. At that time, he knew I had a thing for him but we dared not say anything about it either. During high school, being social was a challenge towards my self-esteem and being shy didn't help break the walls between both of us. We made eye contact constantly and this went on for quite some time until he approached me first. His name was Brian and I will never forget our very first kiss.
It was under the moonlight; behind the shed where nobody ever goes during the night. We held on to each other as our muzzles touched and he was a god damn good kisser. I hadn't had any lip contact with any furs and to feel such intimacy and protection, I fell head over heels for him. His arms wrapped against my torso, formed into a hug and I was happy. If a war broke out tomorrow and I died in the fields, I would have died knowing I had my first wonderful kiss in my entire life.
Brian was the first to break off the kiss and he nuzzled at my nose. I blushed at his close contact and did the very same. The more I touched his muscled torso, the need for this male increased; to a point that I desired to be taken by him. He was the first to break my defenses and I regretted not one bit that he did that. In fact, we continued on with our secret rendezvous every other night. You'd think that by then, being two virile and horny young men, we'll be rutting each other till the sun comes up. No, Brian, apparently, was a man of honour and he didn't want to make things too awkward for me.
But one night... that very night... was the most memorable one.
He held on to me as usual, kissed against my lips and down my neck. I felt the heat from his body and the musky male scent that permeates had me dizzy and craved for something more. That very night, he was different: more intimate, feels very right. I moaned under my breath, glad to have him down on me and when he slipped my shirt off, he did the same. I stood there in awe at this wonderful specimen of a male. Tight mid torso, wide barreled chest, bulging biceps as he did a double flex pose; I practically drooled away.
"Has anyone ever told you how big of a stud you are? With the word handsome thrown into the mix?" I traced his muscles with a single finger, examined every valley of his sinewy torso that had me weak in my knees.
"Mmm... Maybe..." he grinned and brushed my cheek, "Oh who am I kidding. Constantly. Someone ever tell you how cute you are underneath that camo suit?"
"Not really, no. You know me, always the shy one."
"But you don't act shy when you're around me," Brian the husky chuckled and began to ravage my neck fur, teeth gently scraped along but never going through flesh; I was ready to have him take me.
I remembered every movement; his amazing touch and that made my fur stood on end. His voice rumbled from deep within as he pulled me back towards him. We inhaled each other with fervor and nothing else mattered but us alone, here, at the back of a shed that little to nobody knew about. It was perfect and that was when I had made up my mind: I'll lose my perfect virgin wolf ass here, with this man.
Brian constantly nipped and licked around my vulnerable spot. If he were to ever kill or murder me, this was the perfect moment but I trusted him. My instincts told me that this was right and by Gods it was one hundred percent right. I never wanted to leave his side. The husky continued his ministration without fail and with both of us fully exposed to one another; it was time to move on to something far more interesting. I remembered clearly how tasty and succulent his cock was. It wasn't large and massively endowed in any sense but one that fits perfectly in my muzzle.
Lips pursed around his cock head, the first contact of pre against my tongue had me moaning under my breath. Since I lacked experience under the blowjob department, I tried my best to please the man based on all those porn movies that I'd seen during high school. It was awkward at first but as I went deeper and got more of his cock into my muzzle, Brian relaxed and complimented with every single suckle. My paws weren't idle in the first place as they fondled and rolled those cum filled sack with earnest. Perhaps it was the way my rough paws were working but I know one thing for sure, the husky enjoyed every second of it.
I pulled out of that meat pole and eyed at it, throbbed and slick with saliva and pre. "Cum in my mouth..."
Brian had his tongue out by now and probably wanted to cum right then and there but I coaxed him to edge on even longer. Somehow, we managed to get it through. That was when I realized how talented my muzzle was. The muscled husky kept me at bay every once in a while and I tasted pre every time he did that. From the get-go, I knew that this was going to be a massive load and true enough, after sucking him off for more than 10 minutes; he was flooding my muzzle with several blast of cum.
Being inexperience at sex, he nearly chocked me to death as I gasped and struggled for air. Each swallow of his seed was mildly satisfying and I say this because eating cum is an acquired taste. You don't just go 'Oh my fucking God! This is the tastiest liquid that I've ever drank in my whole life!' because that's a lie. Take it from me: a gay male that loves to suck dicks. After that meet up, it became a routine for us. Every weekend, the troops would be out having fun in town but our definition of fun came in a different way.
He looked down at me, our eyes locked in lustful gaze. My arms coiled around his mid torso like a snake and while we're at it, my legs did the very same. In this position, my handsome husky found a good rhythm of plunging his cock deep inside of me. I never once regretted losing my canine virginity to him because that was probably the best sex that I've ever had in my entire youthful life. His muscles had been put to good use when his hips gyrated in and out with his cock buried inside. I had learned how to handle his engorged shaft and my body accepted this feeling immediately. Every thrust from his part was a dream come true and my heart began to fall for him completely.
When he came into me, every night when we fucked, when he claimed me, I felt alive... I felt like Brian was the man that I could stay for the rest of my life. He was gentle, compassionate, and attentive to my needs, kept me company and dare I say, somewhat protective but being possessive over me was merely a figment of my imagination. My world came crashing when we graduated from military school to pursue something else in life.
The husky promised to call and visit every once in a while and we even planned to stay together but that didn't happen. My parents didn't mind me being gay but merely the fact that I told them that I might be moving out to another state. That's when they freaked out. Yeah, I was raised in a somewhat overly protective environment despite my parents being divorced. They sacrificed a whole lot for the children and I am very grateful for that.
Brian started getting way too busy for me and as time goes by, we drifted apart. He rarely called and when he did, it was because he had some sort of trouble in his life. I became a friend that counseled his feelings or an ear to lean on to. One day he called me up about his love life and that's when I knew that we weren't going to be together, at all. We argued for a bit on this matter but after a while, it was history.
My eyes flickered like butterfly wings when the first ray of sun struck my eyes. The blaze from it woke me up and the first thing that came to my mind was where the fuck am I. I looked around in an unfamiliar place. Empty beds everywhere, dirty walls and the smell of dirty locker room pierced through my nostrils. I nearly gagged at it but reality finally hit. John was slept soundly right beside and both of us doesn't seemed to be in danger.
However, something doesn't seem to be right. I reached to the side where my backpack was and it wasn't there. Fuck! I scrambled to look for it but it wasn't there! When I finally got a sense of my entire environment, I realized that we were the only two furs around. The guys that saved us yesterday were long gone and they fucking ran off with our supplies. I cursed loudly and that woke John up.
"John, they fucking took our stuff," I growled and hissed at nobody. I was angry beyond words.
"Well, looks like it's time to scavenge for food again," he stretched and yawned away, "Not like this is the first time that this happened. We'll survive, I hope."
That last word was something that I didn't want to trust but the hybrid was right. "Okay fine. Let's get out of here before."
At that very moment, there was that sound again, that soft eerie moaning sound that I was reminded off yesterday when we were closed in with two deathly creatures. We stand rooted to the ground, looked everywhere for the source and the first sight of the creature was seen at the door. Seems like our 'saviour' had left the door open and that left us vulnerable to these attackers.
"You ready to make a run for it?"
John nodded and got himself ready. "A morning run is probably what I needed to get myself ready. I hope there's breakfast over on the other side."
"Let's hope so but I wouldn't count on it," the creature finally realized that there's food in this very room and the thought of being their breakfast wasn't on my bucket list. "Got a weapon?"
John was one step ahead of me and handed over a crowbar that was lying right beside of his bed rest; seems like the earlier troops had the same mindset of having a weapon readily available at any time. Just when the creature attacked, I slammed right at its face and knocked it right back. The head popped right off and the foul stench of rotted meat permeates in the air. I gagged at such foul intensity but now isn't the time for it. We were about to make a run for it. With every ounce of strength that I had, I charged like a mad man and struck every obstacle that came in my way. Blood splattered like I was doing a massacre but I didn't care. At this point in time, in this world right now, in a situation like this, it was kill or be killed. I don't hold on to that kind of principal but now's probably a good time to think about it.
Blood covered my arms and paw, smeared all over my fur and I truly wondered if this was going to wash off. I smelt like murder and I knew John had the same idea as well. When the last of the creature was taken care off, I saw a bunch of them along the alleyway and highly doubt that we'd want to stay here for long. We bolted off from camp and ran like our lives depended on it and that wasn't figuratively speaking.
The familiar road to the outside world was seen and I couldn't be happier. I dared not look back but I willed myself to and thank goodness they weren't chasing right after us. Perhaps they were too tired or disoriented from everything that was happening but I couldn't care less. John pulled me off to the side and I jerked backwards. I cursed aloud and that's when he pointed out to the front, a swarm of these ugly abomination scattered all over the road.
"This isn't what I had in mind when morning comes." Both of us rushed off to the side and as we did so, a gas station came to view.
A loud sigh of relief broke through the strained atmosphere. I honestly thought we were goners and this was truly a sight for sore eye.
"Can we find some water, please? Running water to be specific. I think I'm bleeding..." John was holding on to his arm and true enough, blood oozed like a river.
I prayed with all my might that there was running water in the toilet and somehow, my prayers were answered. John rushed towards the source and quickly washed everything off. I drenched under the water every now and then to get rid of those slimy things that splashed all over my body during battle. Honestly, I was a little afraid. During that fight, perhaps he was bitten by one of them and it was at this very moment that I truly value what's important; the long invulnerable friendship that I had with the hybrid or the safety of my personal life.
I gulped down a mouthful of saliva but before I could ask the male, he looked at me and smiled. "No, I didn't get bitten. I accidentally cut myself at the wall that we bumped into during our escape. I'm sorry if this worries you but you have every right to be. I won't turn into one of them but perhaps it's time I told you something else about me."
I nodded. Within half an hour, we stopped the bleeding with a rotten rag hanging around the mechanic shop. Not a single soul for miles away and that was the best news so far this morning. Found several packet of food, junk food, but it was still food. We sat inside the station and munched away, trying to keep ourselves composed and for me, waiting patiently for my friend's personal explanation.
"I have a sickness," John started off as he finished off a bottle of water, "Leukemia to be exact."
"You didn't tell me that!" I snapped.
"It was no one's concern and it had nothing to do with this disaster but I found something different when I was exposed to the poisonous air," now he looked away with a forlorn look. "During my time at camp near the checkpoint bridge, the one I told you about when I tried to escape the country, I bleed like I was murdered and thankfully, one of the doctors managed to close the wound and treated me. We found that my sickness had evolved and instead of the usual white blood cells being more than red, it accelerated my lifespan."
At that, he stopped and I allowed for this information to sink in: he was going to die much faster than me.
"The poisonous gas treated the cells and we had no idea how that happened but for all I know, it was aging the rest of my body. I may look young right now but my organs are degenerating internally, accelerating my death. Now, every second of my life is left with despair but I took a turn that if I had to die young, I'd rather die happy."
He smiled and from the corner of his eye, I saw a trail of tears running down his cheek. "I lied to myself with every passing minute that this is just temporary and I'll be happy again but deep down, I know it will never be. I didn't realize that my life would turn into one big hell. When I saw you back then at the grocery store, for once, I was happy. I found someone I knew and that someone isn't just anyone but the guy that I was friends with for a very long while. Pyxe... I missed you."
Words couldn't describe the amount of emotion that ran through my mind and I knew I should react or to say something but I can't think of anything. John was going to die sooner than he thinks he is and he's been living a reality of hell.
"Pyxe, if you wanted to know the sign if someone is dying from the slow reaction of this poison that the government has bestowed upon us, they'll feel fatigue, tired, slow heart rate , bleed easily and excessive sweating. I have seen numerous times how someone would just fall on the ground, shiver and sweat away and with their final breathe... said a painful goodbye. It's not for the faint of heart and I know that my time is coming near. That battle took quite a toll on me and I can feel it right inside of me."
"No, you're not gonna die, please, not now." I was desperate.
He smiled again and this time, a genuine and bright smile. "No, not now but at least I have you by my side, Pyxe."
I looked to the sky, unable to comprehend everything that's been happening but honestly speaking, there's nothing to it. We were going to die a slow death but at least, it wasn't a painful one. The stars glimmered and shone as bright as they could and I wondered, I truly did wonder... if the stars could really save us. That would be stupid since stars are merely fireballs from very distance space. I looked at my paw, brushed the old and disheveled fur, smiled at the memories of having wonderful and soft texture. The smell of fur shampoo that made me giddy and running of hot water cascaded down my body after a hard and grueling training. Oh what a wonderful time that was.
A soft sigh lets out, contemplating on my fate now that I knew John was about to leave me. The hybrid lay at a corner, back faced towards me and I knew as well as he that his time was coming. The thought of being alone once again pains me to no end and tears began to well-up from it all. This wasn't the time and place to be but more towards spending time with him. It made me question a lot about life, how precious it is and how much everyone of us has gone through.
The sad moments, the happy moments, moments of pride and joy, never-ending time spent with your loved ones and close friends; this is what it means to be alive.
"John," I whispered and nudged him with my paw, "Are you sleeping?"
He said not a word but turned towards me. His eyes now dried up from tears. "No, I'm not."
I press closed towards him, leaned my head against his shoulder in the efforts of providing comfort. "How are you feeling? Any more bleeding?"
"The bleeding has stopped, thanks to you but... heh... I know my time is coming up. Who knows? Maybe I'll die tomorrow or the day after. Pyxe, I can feel my body tiring out slowly."
My lips bitten as I tried to keep composed. "John, you're not going to die. You're strong and you know it. Heck, even I know it. You can't just leave like that. Pfft. John, I know you. Boot camp training? You were the first to the finishing line. You were as strong as an ox!"
That somehow puts a smile on his face. "Yeah, I was always coming in first during drills. Remember those jealous glares. If only I could relive that moment again."
"You sure could," I stroked his head, "Tomorrow morning, just you and me."
John nodded, "Then you'll be the one that's jealous of my winnings. Oh I remember that one guy who tried to compete with me. Brian, was it?"
"Oh yeah..." Yes, it was Brian, the hunky husky that popped my cherry, the one that I truly believed that we would be together forever; how foolish of me. "Him, yes. Brian."
"Brian... the hunk that you loved," John pressed himself towards me and hugged. "Sorry it didn't work out. Well, at least you got to have a nice romp with a very handsome and good hunk."
I nodded. That was very true.
"Pyxe..." He looked at me with some sort of yearning or question in his eyes; I just couldn't point what it was. "Pyxe, do you know that I have a crush on you?"
"Uh... J-John... what do you mean?" What is he saying?!
"Pyxe, I'm not joking," the male sat straight up and looked right at me with a deadpan expression. He was dead serious about this and there seems to be more to it. "I admit that I wasn't attracted towards you in the start and before you ask me, yes, I am gay and I love men more than women and guess what, the man is you. When we were drafted and did things together, I got to know more of you."
Somehow, I wasn't fearful or terrified about his confession. Instead, at the back of my mind, I had an inkling that it would come to this. It was true that I loved Brian but before him, the time spent together really did bond our interest into one. I sought after the husky because he fits my taste in men, his attitude, his actions, those muscles; it was now that I realized that what I saw in Brian was merely sexual advances. He never really wanted to keep in contact, he just wanted to fuck!
It hit me hard and there were more than enough proof that Brian was merely using me. John had that look again and this time, I think I understand where he was coming from. "I'm sorry..."
The hybrid just smiled and gave a quick peck on to my lips. It came out of nowhere but I wasn't deterred by such act. Instead, I returned the favour. He smiled back, happier than he was days before. We looked at each other, barely moving. I saw the twinkle in his eyes and yet sadness. Something was wrong but I didn't know what. He came in slow, crawled over me unexpectedly and I fall back. I retaliated for a moment, unsure what he was trying to do.
Our lips touched, slightly dry and parched from lack of water. My eyes bulged open and I wanted to push him off because compared to the previous peck, this was a full on kiss. John was practically all over me when my arms were pinned down. I couldn't move or react as much and I was giving off seemingly small effort to pry away. I could have turned away but I didn't, I could have kicked the man but I didn't. His strength overpowered me in a weird sort of way and his actions were becoming peculiar every second.
When he found that I wasn't reciprocating, he pulled off, breathed a little heavily over my neck. "Pyxe, I want you. Please, let me have you."
"J-John... this is... why are you doing this?"
"Because I have always wanted you," he looked me in the eyes once again and I saw the truth deep inside his soul. "Crushes weren't enough and when you left, my life was empty inside. Every day and night I thought about you, I couldn't get you out of my mind and us being away like this was just perfect for me to forget about you because... because you wanted Brian but now, things changed. Pyxe, I want you very much."
I saw his desperation and let me tell you... it was sexy and hot. Perhaps it was all those sexual frustrations built up in my balls or just the fact that I had a male loomed on top of me like a dominant one. Deep inside, this was what I had dreamt about sometimes. My arms somewhat wrapped around his torso and despite my deep sympathy for him, I was sexually turned on as well. The rub of his crotch against mine clearly told me that he was aroused and there was no way he was about to stop any of his ministration.
"I can't believe that we're going to fuck at a time like this," I whispered.
"When time is short and you don't know when you're about to die, every second counts and now I have you here with me, I hope you don't mind."
Mind was putting it mildly because this wasn't what I had planned throughout my whole post apocalyptic stay in this barren land that I last called home. His lips came in contact with mine again and again but with a simple twist of me pulling his shirt off. He was fairly easy to undress since the shirt he had on was torn at certain places and needed a new one entirely. In my defense, I pretty much had the same kind of garment as well.
When he was shirtless, I finally got to see the man that had a deep burning desire for me. Post years of working out in camp were clearly maintained in his form when I brushed against his chest. It wasn't as tough and hard as it used to be but it showed his hard work. Our lips pulled away and he sat right on top of my crotch, his body shown to me in full view. Strong shoulders, a set of good visible abs; leaned more towards the otter like body. Well, both of us actually had the same body type and he was no 'Brian' in any way.
John undressed me with ease, laid my shirt aside and gingerly pulled down my pants. I hadn't worn any underwear since this whole ordeal because it was merely a hindrance. I mean... ungh... clean underwear is the least of my worries when the need to survive came about.
"You look just as handsome and sexy since the last I've seen you naked in camp," he chuckled and revealed himself to me.
"Sweet talking at a time like this? How romantic," I teased.
"Well," he grinded his crotch against my own, "I still can't believe that we're both hard from getting all of this attention."
It was somewhat true. At a time like this where we could be attacked or found at any given time, it was extremely dangerous to perform such sexual acts. But you know what? I don't give a damn. My paw grabbed against his hardened meat, giving attention to what it sought. The simple touch made John shuddered and fur stood on end, sucked in a mouthful of air and relaxed. I watched his chest rise up and his body responded in kind. One paw worked against his length while another against his balls, the incredible taste of lust was shown in his face.
I caught him by the balls literally and he smiled away, encouraged me to proceed further. John moved up towards my chest and rubbed that shaft along the way; some pre leaked at the tip and drizzled down my chin. Say no more and I did what I had to do. My muzzle came in contact with his pre and pursed my lips against the cock head, suckled the honey that contained within. Eyes closed and I took in more inside my mouth. The first few inches were alright but with a quarter remained, I chocked at it.
This was as far as I could go. It has been a while... long enough to know that I'm having difficulties to deep throat a cock like his. John wasn't great in the length or girth department but above average, big enough to know how much this meat could stretch an ass. By now, the hybrid was muzzle fucking away but it wasn't without passion and sincerity. Slow and steady, I took more of him than I have ever anticipated; never in my wildest dreams that I would hook up with one of my best mates from military school and I regret nothing.
I slurped as much as possible while I rolled his balls along my paw, felt the heavy orb that contains the seed that will inseminate me for the night. At this point, I didn't know if I wanted him to cum right into my muzzle or just hike my legs up to present my ass. Apparently, John had made up his mind.
Cock pulled off, slick with my saliva and from my vantage point, he was beginning to sweat. The first thought that came to mind was the symptoms of death: extreme fatigue. I wanted to stop right then and there, warned the possible outcome of our actions but the male had made up his mind. A finger placed on to my lips and he smiled, shook his head and continued on; he wanted this regardless if whether or not he died. I spoke not a word and obeyed but yelped suddenly when I felt my body hoisted upwards. Paw clamped upon muzzle to shut myself up. Fuck! He's going to fuck me and there is no way in hell I'm able to express the joys of male sex.
I remembered how loud I was when Brian took my cherry and every other night we had together. I was loud and proud of it. Thankfully no one came to check on us. The husky did warn me several times to keep it down but I couldn't help it. He was big. Let's see you try taking such length without crying out loud. At least John wasn't as large but I wanted him to know that this was giving me just the same amount of pleasure. My ass was presented to him and without a word, licked me up. I wasn't even sure if I was clean inside. I know that we just had some water but it was merely to soak up and wash as much dirt as possible, never entirely.
John doesn't seem to mind and he was eager to take my tail hole. A simple lick, then another and another and another! My cock literally jumped at such attention and I let off a soft whisper of moan. I bit my lips, tried as hard as possible to keep quiet.
"If you're already this sensitive from just getting rimmed, imagine what it would feel like having my cock buried inside," he grinned.
"Fuck you, John..."
"No, fuck you, Pyxe," he got up and walked down one of the aisle.
I was confused for a minute. Did he hear something? Was someone outside? Shit! Do we have to run for our lives again?
I sat there motionless; ears at attention to identify any foreign sounds but all I could hear was John's paw pads. It stopped, something fell, pushed aside, several plastic bottles and a small 'yes' applauded. My partner came to view and wiggled something in his paw.
"Really? You found lube in a gas station?"
"Hey, a lot of things are gone as you can see and I don't think lube is going to be one of their top priority kits of survival. Also, no condom. I'm going in bare." John squeezed a generous amount on to his paw and lathered himself up.
"How many partners have you fucked in the last six months?" I queried.
"None,"
"When was the last time you've had yourself checked for STD?"
"Pyxe, shut up," a finger entered into my hole and I gasped out loud. "You're slowly dying inside and it's not from STDs and yet, you're still concerned about it? Geez. I'm going in bareback whether you like it or not."
This time, I grinned. "True. So what are you waiting for? Fuck me."
I was basically jabbing at him but we knew it was all fun and games. My body relaxed with each pulse of his finger, pried my defenses and that wasn't his cock. He was a good lover and I knew this with each ministration of his paw. The few times that I've hooked up with some male, they were there to merely fuck and go. Even with those that wanted something to come out of this one night stand; they weren't that gentle either, they were sloppy.
John... John was different. If I were a cat, I'd purr happily for him. He knew the places to touch and soothed my body with his other paw, scratched against my belly and suckled on my cock. A master of foreplay or perhaps it's just me. Another finger entered and soon enough, I was looser than before. I say that because within that every second, his cock head popped right in and not a single pain coursed through my body. Instead, it was replaced with unspeakable pleasure. If you've ever gotten fucked before by a male in the ass, you'll know what I mean.
I felt full and content, breathed a sigh of relief as he pulled out a few inches and slowly slides back in. Like I said, his girth wasn't amazing and neither is his length but he knew how to work his instrument. I was singing joyous chores of pleasure when he hilted me. As he pulled out and plunged back in, I made an effort to let him know how much I was enjoying myself. No, I wasn't making it all up.
He stopped momentarily with every part of his hardened length buried inside of me, hilted right down to the base as he pinned my shoulders down. My legs coiled around his to give him better access to my tail hole and that was when our gazed met with one another. As he slowly fucks my ass, we were connected at that very moment. It was at this time that I finally saw a different side and light of John and all these while I have treated him as just a close friend but now I've finally seen that, perhaps, John would be a good partner. I was slowly falling in love with him and he knew it.
His thrust kept at a slow pace, keeping me comfortable as I adjusted to his size. I nodded for him to move faster. He wasn't sure if he should but I told him to pound away. Concern was written all over his body. "You sure?"
"Yes I am sure. Will you... mate me?"
I watched as John melted when he heard the words that he wanted to hear the most. "Pyxe, I will gladly mate you..."
From there on, we rutted the night away. I couldn't count the number of times I've cummed so spontaneously from just a fuck. John found my pleasure spot instantly and used that knowledge to bring me towards the edge. I found myself pulled away from ever touching my cock; he wanted to fuck my seed right off. A paw clamped on my muzzle, eyes against the male above, I tried my best to keep it quiet. John was as well because he found himself stopping every now and then, dangerously near to orgasm.
"You're the best fuck I've ever had in a while," John wiped droplets of sweat off his forehead, "If I ever die tomorrow, I'll have no regrets at all."
"You-You're not going to die... t-tomorrow..." I closed my eyes but he forced me to open.
"Pyxe, look at me, please," I obeyed and did just that. "I want to remember you, like this, as I mate inside of you... to watch that handsome face of yours, to see you having pleasure with me aided by your side. You're... you're really something."
If only I could contain words in a jar and open it up every time I needed a pick me up, this would be my first. He pounded continuously, deeper and deeper, harder and quicker, every thrust was pleasurable to a point where I couldn't take it anymore. I warned him, truly I did!
"Cumming... please... please... c-cumming! John!"
"Yeah! That's it," he lowered himself but never stopping, whispered lovingly to my ears. I felt his hot breath against my fur and the warmth of his body, it was amazing. "Cum my love."
And I did.
Ribbons of my seed covered our bodies and matted both of us together; we were nothing more than two bodies joined together. My cock pulsed with each spurt and my balls emptied as much as possible. Personally, that was probably my first ever orgasm since this whole ordeal and I was grateful for having such intimacy at a time like this. I should thank him for doing this with me.
John wasn't far behind as his hips moved faster and I could practically feel his cock filled with blood momentarily as it expanded, finally flooded the depth of my anal walls with his seed. I could feel his warm cum all over like a glass of milk and I was happy to receive his gift. He snarled and growled, snapped away with his nature to breed and he did a wonderful job at it. His ball sacs were just as empty as mine, I felt full.
The male above finally experienced his afterglow and as he did, looked at me with those sweet gentle eyes. For that very moment, I was absolutely glad that I've met him and coming into my life. If only I knew this from the start, we might probably been together longer than I have dreamt and stopped pursuing an imaginary husky boyfriend. John chuckled and licked my muzzle. "You have some cum on you."
I blushed and wrapped my arms around him again, brushed his back fur gingerly. "Sorry. I couldn't control myself. I was just fucked by my military mate."
"Um... Pyxe... if we ever get out of here and have a new lease on life again, if we survived... can we... can we be together?"
The words that came out of his mouth seemed so casual but I knew deep down, this was one of the hardest things to confess about. I don't blame him. Through the years away, John continued to love me from afar. "Yes I would."
He beamed and hugged as tight as possible. "Thank you."
I moaned all of a sudden. "Your cock is still buried inside of me. Keep doing that and we might spend the entire night fucking away."
"I don't see you complaining about it,"
That was probably the best time of my life. We slept together like this, we were happy. Despite everything that has happened, I was happy. For once, I didn't care if someone found us cuddled like this; both of us didn't stand on guard. We rested and nothing else mattered. I found someone that I could be with.
Normally I'd wake up without jolting right up but this morning was something different. My paw clutched against my chest and I felt myself breathing heavily. I looked out towards the window and saw the sun blazing down on this very land. Sweat dripped down my forehead and my fur was disheveled entirely. I inspected my body at first, everything was still intact but I was definitely dirty all over. Not only from my own sweat but from last night's dried cum; everything about yesterday flashed before my very eyes and I remembered it all.
Perhaps I was still tired and fatigue from last night's hard rutting but that would be unusual. I've rested as much as possible and yet, my heart is racing. Was it a nightmare? No, I'd remember that very well. I was alive and moving, nothing out of the ordinary except this weird feeling of exhaustion.
The first thought that came to mind was the poison. That's when my whole body shivered and my heart skipped for a second. No, this wasn't happening.
"John, wake up. John!" I nudged my beloved by my side still asleep soundly but he moved not an inch.
That triggered every fear that I had inside. I moved him over to face me; I saw the calm and handsome face again. Both paws cupped his cheeks, called out for him to wake up. It was at this point that I remembered what he said yesterday, about dying slowly and his time is now but I didn't expect the 'now' to be now!
"Please wake up, please... please!"
The twitch on his eyebrow brought very much a sense of relief to me and I choked. "Thank you..."
"Ungh... is it morning?" John blinked.
"Yes it is, thank goodness you're alive," I brought him up to his legs but stumbled a little. "You're going to be okay."
I was being optimistic but it wasn't easy. The time is near.
"Alright, time to pack up. Could you let me wash myself first? I hate dried cum all over me," he laughed and couldn't help but joined in with a chuckle.
We packed what we could, cleaned ourselves but with the same dirty clothing. I was disheartened with how slow and tired he looked as he got his bag; grunted a little even though the content of his bag were little to none. Tears welled up and my chest felt heavy, I wasn't going to lose him. Not now, not ever. I helped him up but came crashing down on his knees when his legs gave in. It was at this point that I couldn't hold back my cries.
"Shh... it's going to be okay," John smiled and nuzzled at my cheeks, "Everything... will be alright. Up you get." My beloved got to his feet but couldn't walk without his arms draped over my shoulders. "Remember what I said last night? That we'll be together after this whole ordeal is over? Remember? Heh... C'mon. We'll make it through."
It was then that I saw a slow hoard of infected furs crawled towards our direction. I suspected that these creatures had yet to sense our presences or else we'll be dead even before we know it. We hastily dragged ourselves off to the back and out into the nearby woods, hoping to leave not a single trail and we did. Deeper we went and the trees and bushes got thicker. I felt scratches along my flesh as sharp branches sliced towards my arms and I knew this wasn't going to work when I felt blood seeped from my side.
We had to stop, "It's going to be okay."
"No Pyxe, it's not going to be okay," he held my paw and clutched as tight as possible. "I'm bleeding and we do not have the right equipments to heal me. This isn't something that can be done in a few minutes."
No, I cannot accept this fact, this very individual that had just confessed his crush and love for me and I have accepted this gift, I cannot bear to depart from it all. I tore my shirt off and tried to stop the bleeding, it came to no avail. Through our hasty retreat, the scratches did more damage than I'd anticipate. It was then that I had to accept the fact.
I stopped every effort and just sat in front of him, tears streamed down my cheeks and I choked like an infant. John wasn't sad in any manner possible but smiled at me, back of his paw brushed against my cheek while the other scratched along my dirty fur. We were both filthy. The man kissed my lips and held both of us in place, wouldn't even pull away and this wasn't a kiss that channeled our lust or sexual; it was sorrow and yet, happiness.
No words can explain the undulating emotions that welled inside my chest and my heart was extremely heavy. As he pulled away, he still had that smile and was... happy.
"You're just as handsome and cute as you were back when we first met. You grew older and that stayed. You are you. You are Pyxe. You're that guy that everyone bullied during high school," he chuckled.
"John..." Memories, they were all memories. "You were the only friend that I've ever had,"
"Heh, true but you strive through every challenges and I know, for this very same reason, you will as well," John lay down on his back, "Sorry but I'm tired. Can we rest for a while? After that, I promise that we'll walk and find shelter."
I nodded and we lay next to each other, not a word.
A strong gale of wind wafted through the air and I felt the breeze against my fur, somewhat cold for the morning. Leaves fell from branches and landed on the ground. Safe was the only word to describe our situation now. John moved not a muscle and I knew the time was now. He was moving on to the next life.
I sat back up silently and held on to his paw, it felt cold. "John, are you there?"
"Yeah, I'm here," his eyes opened, eyelids heavy, "I'm sorry to break our promise. I won't be able to be with you until the end of time. Sorry I went off first. Forgive me, Pyxe."
I nodded. "Yes, I forgive you."
"Stay strong. You'll get there. I love you."
The paw that I held on to felt heavy all of a sudden and that was when I knew he was gone.
It was evening and the last of my bottled water gone. I tried to ration as much as possible but it wasn't easy to begin with. The lost of John and now without a partner, I had to move on. I mourned and did the essentials, buried him in the woods as I dug up the ground and with each shove of dirt over his body, a part of my heart broke inside. From morning till evening, I was left with the death of my friend but every instinct in my body told me to move on before the creatures' starts finding me.
Up ahead, it was the same barren land, nothing more than empty cars and empty buildings but this time, I was at the center of the city. This was the hub of businesses, the usual hustle and bustle of everyday life and to see it dead as it is was just tragic. I found a bench at the park and just sat there, looked across the landscape that was green but unhealthy. The air itself was poisonous and judging from how far I've walked, I was tired. In fact, I felt the same effect that John had.
I was dying.
I sat there, bag by my side, looked up to the blue sky and smiled.
"I'm scared, John," I whispered to myself. "I'm scared of dying. What will you do about it?"
Eyes closed, I relaxed and reminisce over my life. From the day I was born until now, sitting on this park bench. I have gone a long way, years went by and I grew from an adolescent to an honourable adult. My parents did good raising me as a kid. The values they showed me and the times we had together, it was irreplaceable.
My friends... oh I had friends but they weren't friends like John. Most of them were merely there when they needed you but despite all that, they were meaningful to me. They helped me along the way to adulthood, learned life lessons; from trust to betrayal and I'll never forget that. Grabbed hold of my backpack, I hugged it like a plush toy.
I smiled.
Now, I have truly understood why John smiled this morning. Death is inevitable but we have a choice: to smile and be happy or to die with regret. I had no regrets.
"You know, Pyxe... You've gone through a whole lot," I continued to smile. "It is now time... I guess." My heart heavy felt heavy and dizzy, most probably from the lack of blood towards my brain. I could feel my breath trickling down to almost nothing and it was at this point that I heard something else at a distance.
"A survivor!"
The word itself should have brought me to my senses but my body couldn't respond. I tried to open my eyes but only squinted when a bright light shone across my face. Paws grabbed on to my body and a needle jabbed towards my arm. At the back of my mind, it should have stung since it was pushed in with such force but I felt nothing. In fact, every nerve in my body was dead.
"C'mon, live. This cure should work!"
"You can do this!"
No, it was too late.
I tried to open my eyes and John came in sight. From the background, I saw several medics surrounded me as they tried to resuscitate or rather, revive this dead body. John looked at me and gave me that familiar smile again.
"Pyxe, guess what? I get to fulfill my promise. I'll be with you till the end of this life."
"John Basu, you idiot prick," I muttered.
It was then that I knew: everything was over. My eyes closed permanently and my strength has left my body entirely. This was probably what it felt like to die and as I've said before, I had no regrets. I have lived this life to the fullest and it is time for me to go.
