The Enemy of my Enemy chapter 2 (A halo fanfiction)
James sat down the hall next to an open window as the darkness consumed the streets. He looked for every possible way to get his recent embarrassment off his mind but every time he shook it the images came back twice as bad. Seeing Kehe's smooth curves constantly brought a blush to his cheeks. He sighed as he watched a covenant patrol walk right by the building he was currently hiding in. He noticed that it was only brutes, there were no Elites with them or anywhere in the city.
"Hmmm..." he mused before looking down the street a little further
He had retrieved his helmet and had decided to activate visor mode as he watched the patrol. As soon as they had passed by and he heard Kehe's voice down the hallway.
"Excuse me but...James? Can you bring me a towel?" She called
"OH COME ON!" James screamed internally as he stood
At least this time he was wearing his helmet which would hide his embarrassment as he retrieved the towel. He knocked on the door and several seconds passed before it came open slightly and Kehe's head poked through, she hid herself behind the door as he handed her the towel. With a quick nod she moved into the bathroom and dawned the towel, James decided to tease her a tad bit.
"I like those freckles you have, it's kind of cute." He said with a grin
A loud eek! came from Kehe as she shut the door, James walked back down the hallway snickering until he reached the stairs that lead into the living room of the house. A few moments later he heard the bathroom door open and the heavy footsteps of his friend as she came down the stairs with a bright purple tint adorning her face. Taking a seat near James she just began to stare at him, particularly his helmet.
"...I want to see his face..." she thought
Finding herself slowly reaching out for his helmet and as she placed her hand on the side of his helmet he jerked away and pulled out his pistol and pointed it directly at her
"What are you doing?" He demanded
She yelped awkwardly when he jerked away and retracted her hand and held it to her chest in shock, her face burned with embarrassment as she turned her head away to hide her physical embarrassment.
"Nothing..." she said
"That's what I thought." James said sternly before standing up
James walked over to the counter in the kitchen and picked up his rifle before holstering his sidearm. He continued over to the front door and opened it checking outside quickly before stepping back in and facing Kehe.
"This is where we part ways, I have a mission to do so stay out of my way." He said tossing a plasma pistol he snatched from a dead grunt at her feet
She tilted her head at the weapon then looked to him with saddened eyes, was he really going to just let her go? She was thankful that he was letting her live but she felt as though she was being stabbed by several honor guards. She stood up leaving the weapon down and approached James.
"But...I wish to follow you." She said
"Absolutely not you squid brained alien." James argued
"But...please I swear I will not be a problem..." Kehe said as tears clouded her eyes slowly
"No! Damn it I don't want you anywhere near me you ugly slit jawed alien bitch!" James shouted at her
Kehe took a step backwards from shock and looked at him, he must not have cared about her as she thought. Perhaps he was only under orders to save any Sangheili but not get involved with them. It didn't make sense to her but her face took on an expression of anger rather than sadness as she pointed at him
"Fine! Leave my sight! Your race is no different than the 'brutes' as you refer to them!" She roared
James nodded to her and said nothing as he walked out of the building and down the street. He didn't dare glance back as he approached an opened supply cache filled with rifles, shotguns, hands and a single warthog which he was more than happy to take after switching his sidearm for a shotgun.
Turning the ignition the vehicle roared to life before he pulled out and drove down the street. Back in the house Kehe was sitting on the couch with her hands clutched to her face crying as she heard the human vehicle leaving. She believed she had finally found someone who would treat her as an equal but she was wrong as usual and left another male simply walk over her as though she were just an insect.
Standing up she walked back to the bathroom with tears staining her face and forced herself to look into the mirror, she saw a sad Sangheili minor staring back at her with a pathetic expression that haunted her. Perhaps that is why he had left her, did he find her appalling? Clearly with his choice of words she wasn't appealing to the eyes as most males required from a female.
Kehe watched as a tear flowed down her face and dripped down onto the floor. She slowly undid her upper breastplates and left them fall with a loud clunking sound. She examined herself closely in the mirror and placed a hand on her chest feeling her small breasts with a tiny blush. She gathered her armor and moved into a nearby bedroom where she removed the rest of her armor before slinking herself into the covers and closing her eyes with tears in her eyes.
Meanwhile James was busy driving to his objective which had updated over the past few hours, he was to report to the ONI Alpha Site for a demolition job however on route he encountered heavy resistance leading to his warthog being flipped and thrown on top of his legs. He felt his legs breaking under it's weight and cried out in agony while fighting to push the vehicle off of his legs.
Several voices came from nearby and a sudden dose of relief shot through his chest as two members of his squad arrived just in time and began to fire upon the brutes and little bastards advancing to his position. A trooper named John laid down suppression fire as the other troops Douglas attempted to lift the vehicle off of James' legs but failed only bringing him more pain.
"ARGH! GOD DAMN THAT HURT!" James yelled
Kehe was still laying in bed as the loud explosion came from down the road, she lifted her head and exited the room to find a window to look out and find a smoke column forming nearby, she felt a tang of fear at the idea that it was James. Shaking his name from her head she went back to the bedroom and ignored it. She hated him so much for what he'd said however she still felt a slight tug of concern for him.
Glancing over at the pile of her blue armor she stuck a finger between two of her mandibles and contemplated herself. James on the other hand was in agony as he was unable to escape his current situation and as he watched his squad fight off the covenant he felt as though it was the very end for him so he pulled out his sidearm and grabbed John's leg to get his attention.
"Go, there's nothing you can do brother." He said
John glanced at Douglas before they both ran off in the opposite direction however soon they both came across a large figure wearing bright blue armor with broad shoulders and deep blue eyes that seemed reptilian in nature.
"Get out of my way." Spoke the figure as it made its way over to the warthog
Placing a hand underneath the overturned vehicle and gave it every ounce of strength they had to lift the vehicle up enough for Douglas to pull James out from underneath finding he was unconscious. The large figure left go of the vehicle as a stray spike pinged off their shoulder plate.
Turning quickly to Douglas it turned out to be Kehe who had demanded that he hand over James and follow her. To the building she had hidden in after James stormed out.
Once everyone was safely inside they locked the doors and watched the windows while Kehe tossed James' unconscious frame onto the sofa and made quick work to retrieve a medical kit from his backpack and attempting to patch his legs up.
"You saved my life...I intend on returning the favor James." She said aloud receiving a glance from John
Douglas glanced at John who shrugged and continued watching the window as Douglas walked over to Kehe who'd just finished patching up James who unfortunately may never walk again. Removing his helmet he examined James' legs before shaking his head bringing tears to Kehe's eyes. Douglas simply stood up and walked into the kitchen without saying a word and prepared something to eat while Kehe carried James upstairs to the bedroom where she tucked him in and sat nearby.
The power had come back on while she was out but the only source of light was a tiny lamp next to the bed. She examined her friend closely wondering how hot he must be feeling underneath all of that armor, she feared for taking it off in case he was naked as she usually was under her armor.
Taking the risk she began removing several pieces of his armor relieved that he was fully clothed underneath. Starting with his helmet she was shocked to finally see his chiseled face and his light blonde hair with a light scar going across his nose.
She felt the heat from her blood flowing to her face she continued to remove the rest of his armor plating admiring his facial features and muscular arms. She heard the door open and stood up with an eek! Before turning around slowly to see John watching her through his visor.
His helmet was outfitted with a small box attached to the side possibly from boosting signal strength and the handle of some form of sword appeared over his shoulder, he said nothing but simply nodded before approaching to help her in lightening James' current weight.
While they were removing the unnecessary armor Kehe had took in that John wore armor similar to that of James however his helmet was painted to resemble a skull and the word "Stealth" was branded across his chest plate along with several ticks, about eight in total along with four ticks marked up on his helmets rear.
She went back to helping him with James and as they finished John placed a gloved hand on her shoulder and pointed to himself then the door as he began to leave. Shortly after leaving there were sounds of gunfire outside and screaming. Quickly she ran out but was grabbed by Douglas who threw her into the wall opposite of the bedroom door.
Kehe screamed before Douglas wrapped a hand over her mandibles and pressed himself close to her now wearing his helmet and holding a single digit up to the front of his visor. Kehe quickly got the hint before nodding slowly as he removed his hand from her face and stepped away with his battle rifle drawn.
Reaching for his sidearm he unholstered it and handed the weapon to Kehe who was quick to take the tiny gun. She watched as he walked slowly down the hallway past several windows, his armor was more detailed when it came to modifications, he wore a backpack that had several extra pouches for ammunition and medical equipment, he appeared to be missing a shoulder plate however his other shoulder had a larger plate attached to it whereas John had what appeared to be the basic plating.
Douglas also had a knife strapped onto his left shoulder where his plating was missing. The back of his helmet had the words "I see you" painted on which caused Kehe to giggle softly. The sound of heavy footsteps came from downstairs followed by the sound of a struggle and as Douglas reached the top of the stairs with Kehe they witnessed John struggling with several Grunts clinging to his back, with a massive growl he threw several of them off and drew the sword he had just in time to catch the hammer of a Brute Chieftain.
The chieftain roared into his visor as he threw John into the already shattered television set. He fell to the floor with a bone shivering crunch, several seconds passed and he hadn't gotten up so Douglas ran down the stairs firing his weapon at the Grunts successfully killing them off but left him to deal with the Chieftain who hadn't hesitated before swinging his hammer and striking Douglas' helmet sending it flying off his head and into the wall as Douglas fell backwards surprisingly still conscious but bleeding badly from his temple.
Kehe watched in horror as the chieftain readied his hammer to strike the final blow but forced herself to take charge of use all of her weight to bring down the chieftain before unloading her weapon into his skull.
Glancing over her shoulder as she stood atop the Brutes corpse she saw John slowly standing up with his sword in hand before noticing Kehe and Douglas. He placed a hand on his helmet as Douglas began to laugh and cheer at their survival. Jumping up he began to dance around happily and throw curses at the Brutes dead body.
"How do you like that you ugly ass ape! HAHA! Don't feel too good huh??" He cheered as John chuckled lightly
Kehe watched as the two celebrated by kicking the dead Grunts and decided to join in by slowly raising her fist in the air with a weak woo! Douglas continued to celebrate until a sniper bullet pinged right off his shoulder plate cause him and jump and crouch down with a swear while John grabbed his rifle and hid next to the window.
"Sniper!" Douglas said
"No shit Sherlock!" Came a voice over John's helmet radio
Sighing he stepped out from cover and flipped the bird into the darkness. A lone ODST was perched precariously on top of the nearby building wearing armor painted bright white as ironic as that was. He must have spent the whole day and night hiding there or more apparently stuck. Kehe was unsure as to what was happening, these humans were either insane or very brave...probably insane.
