The Rowans and The Greys Chapter 5: Pillows
#5 of The Rowans and The Greys
Kody had headed into Bunnyburrow as soon as Friday was over, leaving almost immediately at five for the two and a half hour drive to his mother's single floor one bedroom house. He spent the start of the night snuggling with his mother while watching TV together before bed.
Jo and Kody's mother-son dynamic was hard to explain. It wasn't some Freudian Oedipus Complex. They didn't feel the need to be together for sexual intimacy, but because they completed each other. They made each other whole. They got exactly what they wanted. Jo got to feel her son against her. Kody got to feel his mother against him. Jo got to have HER son. Kody got to have HIS mother. It was something that the two had wanted desperately forever and now they finally had it. Jo and Kody were like two missing pieces of life's jigsaw puzzle. They'd been set aside from one another, forced to try to fit with other pieces, but in the end, whoever was putting the puzzle together realized that the two pieces were meant to fit with one another and not somewhere else.
The two had just finished the last minute of their program when Kody finally said something as Jo lightly stroked the top of his head, "Mom, I got a phone call from a law firm today."
"What 'bout, honey," the vixen asked, her hand still feeling over his soft fur. "It was about my adopted dad's will, but that's not really why I'm bringing this up," He replied as he looked over at her, "Mom, the law firm Johan used for his will, well, it was the one real dad said his father owned. The guy who called me was. IS my uncle."
His mother stopped petting him for a second, "Yer joshin' me." Kody shook his head, "No, momma. I ain't joshin' ya. Mike Rowan called me yesterday. There's only one law firm in Zootopia with that name; Rowan, Rowan, & Mousekewitz. I googled it. The guy who runs it, Richard Rowan, was daddy's father. Mike Rowan is daddy's brother."
There was a pause as Jo let the words sink in. For being such a big city, there were quite a few coincidences going on, almost as if they were a part of some kind of tv program or story. Jo also realized that her little boy was finally starting to sound like an actual Grey. The old vixen wasn't exactly sure what to say, really. The only interactions she'd ever had with the Rowans happened with Chris. She hoped that Chris was the exception to the family, not the rule. "Why're ya tellin' me this," she finally asked out of pure curiosity.
Kody bit his lower lip, "Mom, I'm supposed to meet him at Gideon's for lunch, and I want you to come with me."
"Why," she asked as she slowly started to stroke over one ear, feeling it flick around under her fingers.
"I jist. I guess I just want you there to hold my hand when I talk to him. I know I sound like a kit, but, I just," the tod started to chuff in frustration as he tried to find the words, "I just. I just. I just."
"Ya wants to know more bout yer daddy, dontcha sweetie. Ya wants t'know if yer daddy's famly was just like'm," she said as she leaned in to give the top of his head a kiss, "I s'pose I'm a peck curious too." Kody sniffled like he was a little kit again, "I'm just learning about where I'm from."
"It's all right, sugar fox," Jo said as she pulled her son's head against her shoulder, "Ya wants yer mama there to keep ya from actin' the fool when ya start asking bout yer daddy."
The tod sniffed again, nodding his head up and down as he gave out a cute little whimper, "Mmmhm." The vixen just murred sweetly as she started to rock him back and forth, giving him another kiss on the top of his head, "It's all right, sweet pea. Mama'll be there, dontcha worry."
Kody let out a long sigh as his tail curled over his thigh, head resting fully on his mother's shoulder. His mother continued to run her fingers through the fur on the top of his head, making the tod slowly relax while the movie they had been watching began to wrap up. The old vixen slowly leaned forward to give her son a kiss on the cheek, "Ya should go t'bed, Kody."
The tod tilted his head up to give the bottom of her muzzle a kiss before sliding off the couch, "Yeah. A good night's sleep would help." He stood over his mother for a second before leaning in to give her cheek another kiss.
The vixen watched her son walk out of the living room and head towards the bedroom. Jo waited a few minutes before sliding off the couch, her jaws opening wide to let out a yawn as her arms stretched above her head. A good night's sleep did sound wonderful. Daintily, she made her way to the bedroom before disrobing to slide into the one bed. Long arms wrapped around her son as she snuggled up with him. Her chunky tod made a wonderful body pillow.
