Too late 2
His funeral went smoothly. Not many people showed up, just his family and a couple of close friends to pay their respects. There were people who missed him of course, but his death was not a tragic loss that would made the world crumble at its foundations. If he'd been there he would be truly hurt. When he was younger he always dreamt of doing something great. He always aspired to be someone. But life dealt him other cards which were average at best. Nothing close to what he always dreamt of. Not being great, not being known, not being loved and most of all not really missed by anyone. Except her.
The mare was watching from the distance. Tears run down on her face. She waited after the funeral ended. After everyone left she went to the grave. The coffin was already lowered. Some flowers were on the top. She had one red rose with her. She threw it into the grave. Then she collapsed on her knees and started crying. She felt deep pain which she hasn't felt since the day he broke her heart. Now it's broken again. And she knew that this time there is no cure. There are some wounds that even time can't heal.
She heard steps coming from behind. She looked up and saw a lion. Her mate. The father of her foals.
Hun... are you okay?
No... it hurts... so much...
He knelt down next to her and embraced her. He had mixed feelings. He had no idea what to say. He just knew that he had to support his love no matter what. He even felt genuine sadness about the guy he never knew personally. He always knew that his mare had an old love that burnt deep in her heart and it never really got extinguished. Not when they got mated, not when their foals were born and not even now. But he didn't care. Not back then and not now.
Can you... please leave me alone for a few minutes?
I will wait at the car. I love you.
I love you too...
The lion left and the mare was left alone with her grief and pain. She looked at the grave. He was so young... he was not meant to die like this. Such a meaningless death. So stupid. So unnatural. Unfair. Her emotions almost tore her apart. She was shaking, sobbing and whimpering. She put her head down to the ground. She almost started to scream in pain.
Suddenly she felt a sudden cold breeze in the air. She wiped her eyes clean and took out two photos from her purse. On one of them it was her with her family, with her loving husband and beautiful children. On the other one it was her with him, back in highschool, having fun. She threw them to the grave, next to the flowers.
- I hope you knew that I am thankful for both of these things you gave me. Those memorable years together and the family I have today. Thank you my love. Good bye.
