Chapter 6: The swimming hole

Darren looked over me obviously expecting me to be with Arthur. I shrugged without saying a word before heading to the communal wash rooms to change into my suit. After doing so, I looked back at my tent hoping to see that Arthur would soon join me. But all I could see was Darren leaving the tent. Perhaps he had a word with Arthur as well. Only time would tell. I resigned myself instead to the swimming hole hoping to take my mind off Arthur. The swimming hole was deserted but I had long grown used to doing things by myself and set my things on the side of the lake.

Diving into the lake was a welcome addition against the heat. The water was cool against my fur as it rushed back against my skin. I began to swim around the lake without much of a goal in mind, just to waste time. Before long I could make a small figure on the horizon, part of me wanted it to be Arthur. The other part of me didn't. Deciding to head over to see who it was, the figure soon leaped into the water and submerged underneath. Unsure of their intentions, I began to suspect mischief.

Feeling a rush of water flow from underneath me, I began to panic. A quick tug was forced as I felt my swimming trunks being pulled from below me. A dark figure emerged from the water, as it spit out a cold spray of water onto my face, I choked it back at them. Now having a good view of them, I could make out that it was Arthur. The grin across his face was unmistakable as he held my swimming trunks above the water in a playful game of keep away from me.

Now blissfully aware of my own nudity, I began to leap and jump at his hoisted paw. He was still bigger than I was and he managed to keep it just out of my reach before swimming away with it. "Hey!" I shouted at him before following after. Then I got an idea, even if I couldn't reach his paw there was something else I could reach. With renewed purpose I propelled myself forward getting closer and closer to my target.

I was clearly able to make out the shadow's of his footpaws continuing to paddle forward, jetting ever closer to him. Lurching forward I grabbed at his waist in an attempt to disrobe him in the same manner that he had done with me. But I could find no trace of any swim trunks and was losing hope the closer we came to the shoreline. As he emerged with my trunks in hand, I looked up at his body. He was wearing naught but his undies. "I win, Pent."

I couldn't help but feel slightly embarrassed that I was naked. Arthur could see through my modesty, tossing the trunks onto the pile with the rest of my clothing. Arthur soon stripped himself of his undies before turning around in a move, I wasn't expecting. "Now we're both naked." I stared at him, feeling my insides tangle up and burn looking at him intensely. My loins began to stir before he lept over me back into the lake, tugging at my tail playfully before re-emerging.

Arthur continued by playfully splashing me with water. I laughed loudly at him as we playfully frolicked in the water. By the time we got out our skin was pruned and our fur was well past matted with water. It was a much needed repose in lieu of the recent bouts with awkwardness. "Come on, let's dry off, Pent." Arthur suggested before lifting his naked body out of the water. He noticed my hesitation before leaning over to help me out of the water' "Don't be silly you haven't got anything I haven't seen before."

I couldn't help but blush as I arose from the water. I found myself gazing to and from his naked body, but unable to stare for long before turning my attention elsewhere. Arthur tossed me a towel before proceeding to dry himself off and putting his glasses back on. It was a welcome addition of privacy so I wrapped it around my waste. I smiled at him before both of us put some clothing on and headed back to camp. It was almost time for scary story night. I never was much into stories but maybe Darren would let us skip it.

The sun was already going down, nearly set beneath the canopy of trees. Returning to camp the other cubs were scuffling about preparing materials for the camp fire. The scent of burning wood and barbecue covered the area. It was truly tantalizing and did not help with my appetite which had grown from Arthur and I's activity in the lake. Arthur wasn't far behind as he joined me soon after. Darren convinced us that we needed to stay for story time. That was reason enough for both of us to join.

Chapter 7: The changing room

Arthur and I returned to the tent to get into something more comfortable than the damp clothing we were presently in. Upon re-entering the tent Arthur loosed his towel from his waist and playfully swatted me with it, extracting a quick "Hey!" in response. I smiled at him not caring much for revenge before turning over to my makeshift wardrobe. Looking into my bag of things, I sorted through my stuff taking out a fresh shirt and pair of pants. But something was missing...I couldn't locate my underwear! Looking around the room I quickly turned my gaze to my friend. "Arthur..."

Arthur looked over at me with a smirk before responding giving away his foul deed. "Yes?" I rolled my eyes a little at him before responding. "What did you do with my boxers?" Arthur's face was priceless as he formed a mischievous grin across his face. "I figured you needed them to be washed." This of course was a lie but, unknown to me, Arthur had hid them in his bag. Still I bought his little facade and inquired. "Well...what do I wear?" It didn't take Arthur long to respond, obviously this was well planned on his part.

"You can wear mine if you like...or you could wear nothing." The suggestion of either of these things made me blush. I certainly didn't want to go commando...but the idea of wearing Arthur's undies made my loins tingle. Arthur could tell he was getting to me, fetching through his things for a pair of underwear that I assumed were clean. Looking at them, the boxers seemed harmless enough. After taking them from Arthur, I gave them a quick glance considering if they'd even fit me. After all he was bigger than I was.

Arthur was still looking over at me half expecting to me change with little regard for his presence in the tent. Bringing them closer for examination exuded an unfamiliar musk I had not yet grown accustomed to. It aroused me for sure...and I rushed to remove the item from the proximity of my nose. Sitting down on the bedspread, I tried best to hide my bulge from Arthur. Sliding on the piece underneath my towel, up the length of my legs. Fixing it around my waist, the boxers hang loosely around me. Had I stood up, they likely would have fallen off me. "They don't fit, Arthur..."

Arthur thought about this notion before responding. "You'll manage...just put on some shorts and they won't fall off." I considered this before agreeing that his own shorts would have to hold up his temporary undies. Placing my paw on my waist and waddling over to my wardrobe, I found a suitable pair of shorts. Pulling them up leg by leg, I was finally able to get rid of the damp towel. Arthur had already been ready for sometime. I could feel the loose boxers extended along the inside of my pants. "You ready?" Arthur asked me. I responded for a nod before heading outside to find a spot along the side of the campfire.

Chapter 8: Story Time

Outside the tent, a fire was struck in the middle of the camp site. Many of the cubs were already gathered about sitting around a circle atop an assortment of logs. Darren was making his way around as Arthur and I joined in, handing out marshmallows and sticks to everyone present. There was a full moon out among many stars littered about the sky. It was a rare sight that was only made better by the fair weather for the evening. Soon enough Darren completed his task and sat down joining the cubs at the Fireside. Seeing him sit down near the other cubs exemplified how young most of the troop was.

Darren began spouting out about the agenda for the night. The goal was to share scary stories and just enjoy each others company. Darren's story began innocent enough a tale of a man who served the French army during the colonial period in Canada. As an ally to the American revolutionary cause

the man often found himself serving to the south of his home. However one day he failed to return to base which prompted his squad to launch a search and rescue mission for him. Several days passed before the squad gave up and proceeded with the funeral rights.

Some years later, after the breakout of the war of 1812 a strange sight was reported. A man matching the same description was seen as riding a horse across the battlefield collecting the heads of his enemies. One soldier reported his site as a "fiery rider in a black pea-coat scorching the earth beneath the hooves of his horse." Upon hearing this his wife came to see this sight. Along the full moon she teared hoping to see her husband return to her on that day. Instead a man reported that same woman collapsing. After coming to her aid she was collected, without a head.

Sights of the fiery enigma continued but none validated enough to credit further reports until the American Civil War. Union soldiers reported seeing "an effigy cloaked in billowed black clouds" taking to the fields, decapitating Confederate soldiers. One Confederate journal was found complaining of "Our camp lies silent. Our brothers taken. He came without word took them with him. I must be next..." Before a splattering of blood covered the rest of the journal making it unreadable. Perhaps the most credible report comes from Edward Doherty who exclaimed that "the Officers of our enemy were whisked away against their will before being left headless in the night."

It is said that this same effigy visits those of foul intent. Lest you be weight and measured by he who is headless, shall share the same fate, or say they say. Darren finished his story with naught but a stare and muted atmosphere was the boys were caught up in the moment of suspense. Darren smiled having finished his tale with a sizable amount of shock from the cubs. Darren collected himself before dismissing the troop. "Sweet dreams everyone, bed time. It was with those words, that we returned to our tents for the night.

Chapter 9: Time Alone

Arthur and I returned to the tent. I wasn't too particularly startled by the tale as I had heard the tale of the "Headless Horseman" before. It didn't seem to incite any fear from Arthur either, but both of us were older than most of the other boys in the troop. We weren't particularly tired but knew that we would have to go back home tomorrow. I retired to my bedspread and took off my shoes looking over at Arthur who was doing the same. I asked. "What do you want to do tonight?"

It was our last night alone before we'd have to return to school the coming week. Arthur looked over at me with a smirk. "Want to play some truth or dare?" This was not a suggestion I was expecting, nor was it one I had heard in some time. A sense of anxiety came over me as I hesitated to answer before he continued. "Oh come on it will be fun!" Some uncertainty filled my head though some curiosity served to placate it. "I dunno, Arthur." Arthur's planned seemed to be backfiring before he suggested. "I'll even let you go first!"

This was enough to relieve my anxiety for the moment, allowing me to give in with a meek "Fine..." Arthur placed himself on the floor patting it gesturing for me to do the same. I joined him before long folding my legs to create space in the small tent. "Alright, Arthur...Truth or Dare?" Arthur didn't consider long before retorting a quick "Truth!". Truth be told...I was terrible at coming up with good questions for this game. "Uh...How about...how do you feel about being a dog?" Arthur lifted up his paw ruffling his headfur before answering. "It's alright just a bit different."

Arthur seemed sure enough in his answer before continuing on without much consideration of anything else. "Truth or Dare?" I sat there for a moment simply repeating the answer that Arthur had just a moment before. Arthur puffed his chest before asking. "Were you serious about what you said earlier?" A great sense of nervousness filled my body as I sat their squirming in front of him, Arthur simply sat awaiting my answer. I knew perfectly well what he was talking about and figured I wasn't about to get out of answering the question. "Ummm...I think so?"

My uncertainty was enough to sate the curiosity of Arthur who simply smiled and snorted at me through his nose. "See that wasn't so hard was it?" Arthur joked at me as I rolled my eyes back at him. "Whatever, Truth or Dare?" Arthur responded before long. "Truth" I again considered ideas for a more thoughtful question than before rounding off the last question that Arthur had asked. "Are you alright with that?" Arthur looked at me and simply nodded with a playful grin on his snout. "Truth or Dare, Penty?" I again responded in kind and he chirped a simple. "How come?" This wasn't a question I was able to answer and simply shrugged.

Still that didn't dampen our playful mood, Arthur simply ignoring it and piping in "Dare" before I even had a chance to ask the question. For once...I had a decent idea. "Ok dog boy, do a trick for me." Arthur just sat there for a second not really knowing what I was expecting as I pulled out a stick. "Fetch!" Throwing it out of the tent Arthur, unrelenting as ever, hurled after it before returning with sitting on all fours as if expecting a treat. I simply smiled and petted him. "Good boy!" It was a cute but playful gesture on Arthur's part. Arthur's tail wagged behind him before sitting down properly. He spit it out sitting, expectantly waiting my question less response. So I chimed in...feeling more brave than before. "Dare"

Arthur didn't take long to consider the motion before he puffed up his chest and blurted out his command "I dare you to...run around the camp in your just your undies!" Hearing this, I hesitated for a moment. Arthur just stared me down, knowing I couldn't just decline his request. Before long I caved in and gingerly began undressing, first starting at my shoes and socks then going upwards removing my pants and shirt. Standing in the same loose undies, I used my paw to hold them up. Arthur smirked before pointing to the outside of the tent. I popped my head outside before picking up my pace and running around the camp in my skivvies. Luckily for me...no one was awake to witness my humiliation.

Upon returning to the tent, I couldn't help but cover myself, still hanging onto the boxers, before resigning over to my bedspread to at least put on a shirt. Arthur just broke out in laughter simply smiling at me and retired to his own bed-roll. We both yawned and stretched. It had been a long day and we were both tired. I smiled over at him before tucking myself into the small sleeping bag and laying on my back trying to go to sleep. Arthur fell asleep before I did and his gentle breathing only helped in catering my fatigue, finally drifting into dreamland.

Chapter 10: Homecoming

The morning dawned as I awoke and stretched, before Arthur himself did. I scooted myself out of the sack before crawling over to nudge Arthur out of his slumber. He groaned before coming to. We stared into each others eyes for a moment, neither of us acting or speaking. It lasted for a good moment before I came to. "We-uh gotta get ready to go home, it's the last day of camp and Darren expects us to pack up by lunch time." It was with that, I helped Arthur out of his bed. Together we began packing our things. As I moved about I recalled I was still wearing Arthur's boxers as they hung loosely on my waist, especially with nothing holding them up.

"Do you want these back?" I asked Arthur as he smirked back at me before throwing me the piece he'd been hiding from me the night before. Cornering myself in the tent and turning around, I dismissed my own modesty to change back into my original underwear. After doing so I tossed Arthur his and continued dressing myself. It didn't take us long to tidy up, the tent was small and didn't house many things. Though a light musk carried about the property that tantalized my senses. It was a curious sense, one that I savored for a little before trying to ignore in order to maintain my composure in front of my friend.

Once we had cleaned up inside and packed up our bags we resigned to the outdoors. The clean and crisp air really cleared my senses and train of thought. Breaking down the tent was a little bit sad but at least Arthur and I had gotten to spend the weekend together. We'd have to go back to school soon, but neither of us really dreaded that idea. Sure we had different interests but both of us truly loved school for the sake of learning new things. Arthur stashed away the tent in it's storage bag before we both reported to Darren that we'd completed our task. Most of the other boys had began to go home and it wasn't long before we'd do the same.

After the last of the boys went home Darren finished packing up the car and scurrying us into the backseat. Arthur and I confided in each other about the weekends events. The car ride was long and eventually Arthur's paw grasped mine and held it firmly within his own. My heart jumped a beat as I looked over to catch Arthur's gaze for a moment. The familiar stare of the older boy remained stalwart on my own and though our gazes soon broke, our hands remain join until the end of the car ride. Arthur was the first to go...and truthfully I was sadened to see him go. But Monday would be another day and I could look forward to seeing him again...

I couldn't help but continue thinking about him for the remainder of my own return home. Darren pulled up in my driveway before dropping off. I ran off into the arms of my brother who was waiting for me at the door. Samaliel lifted me as he twirled me in the air before setting me down to plant a kiss on my forehead. Samaliel took me inside to chat about my weekend at camp. I recanted the tales of Arthur and I, and Samaliel sat listening. Samaliel just smiled at my adoration of Arthur. Even he could already tell there was something more to it...than just friendship. Only time would tell if he was right.
