The Story of Starlight - Beginnings
#1 of The Story of Starlight
Just a brief disclaimer, this may or may not be a full series following the life of my character Starlight. This may include violence, sex, and some adult content. Please don't come here just to hate on my writing either, I may not have the best grammar but I will do the best I can. Now that that is out of the way, let's begin///////////////////////////////////////
It was the dawn of my 13th hatch day when things began to go south at home. I still had yet to pick a suitor as my father wants me to carry on my family's legacy. Since I am their youngest, and they haven't heard from my brother for years, they expected me to marry and have my husband carry on the name, despite my displeasure of having an arranged marriage. I stand and shake my scales of the dirt that gathered in my sleep, the sunlight beamed into my cave that was on my parent's estate. I step out and look towards the large mansion that despite it being owned by my parents, it was never used. They primarily bought the mansion to use the property surrounding for it's cave systems. I sigh and walk towards the large forest before I am stopped by the gruff voice of my father, "Good morning Starlight. Today I have big plans, some of the males of the surrounding Providences are arriving to ask for your hand in marriage."
I turned towards him and growled, "When will you figure out that I don't want to marry someone who only wants me for the title. Haven't you figured that out yet father." I shake my head, "But of course you haven't otherwise you'd stop this useless charade."
He glares at me, "You _will _marry one of them or so help me."
"What, you'll kick me out of the estate?" I snap back, "I'm not going to be the perfect dragon that you've always wanted me to be. And of course you wonder why brother hasn't come back."
My father lifts his paw and growls before my mother intervenes, "Already at this Thorn and Star. Can't you at least let her hunt before you fight?" She looks at me, "Go and eat, I'll talk to your father, oh and happy hatching day Starlight."
I give a forced smile, "Thank you mother." I then turn and fly into the forest, quickly downing and devouring a large deer before returning to the open field behind the mansion. I try to avoid contact with any of the other dragons that live in the estate as I sneak towards the large house. I make it there, evading detection or at least I hoped that much until a voice behind me spoke.
"You know your father wouldn't appreciate seeing you trying to sneak out." I turned to see one of my childhood friends Drasna standing behind me.
I frowned, "Drasna, I can't stay here. Not with how hard my father is being on me, I mean, my first heat is coming up soon and I would much prefer if I wasn't forced to see some suitor to have my first egg with them."
She nods, "I know Star, but if your father finds out you snuck out you'll be in deep trouble."
I sigh, "Why do you think I was trying to evade detection Drasna. Now that you've spotted me, I can't leave because most likely by now they'd know you know where I went." I walk back into the field and frown, "So yeah, I guess I have to endure whatever my father has planned today." I mumble as I walked towards where my father sat and plopped myself next to him on the left while my mother landed in on the right.
My father gave a low growl and whispered to me, "What happened this morning is unacceptable Starlight, you will pick a suitor or I will pick one for you."
I said nothing but thought to myself, 'As if I even have a choice in the matter to begin with..' I looked to the sky as a large group of dragons landed and two stepped forward, both male. I assumed the larger one was the lord of the providence, as he bowed to my father, "King Thorn, I have brought my youngest son to see your daughter."
My father straightens and nods, "Come forward boy."
The young Bronze, roughly my age by the looks of things, stepped forward and bowed his head, "M'lord, I am named G'lent, I am aged the same as your daughter. I ask her now if she'd be my mate."
I looked at him, "No. I will not." I say bluntly.
There are some mumbles from the group behind G'lent and his father and then the two males bowed and said, "We will remain until tomorrow morning in case her decision changes."
I mumble, "It won't change..." Before they disperse. Then I sigh and speak, "Father, I would prefer if we just didn't do this today.."
He growls, "You will do this now Starlight." Before the next group lands and two step forward.
The lord bows and smiles, "Highness, I come baring my son." My father nods and a rather large Green steps forward.
His voice is deep and he speaks with confidence as he bows and looks at me, "I am named Gwillar, I am 17 years of age. I come asking for your daughters hand."
I shake my head, "I refuse your offer. And do not bother remaining as my opinion will not change."
They fly off and my father turns to me, "You have no right to tell them to leave you impudent whelp!"
I wince at the insult but don't back down from him, "Father, I am done trying to fight with you!" I stand and face him, drawing the attention of every dragon in the clearing, I fan my wings and growl, "If you won't listen then I will go ahead and spell it out for you, I'm D-O-N-E!" I then fly up and dodge a blast of fire from my father and then I shift to my smaller form and fly towards the nearest city hoping I'd be able to find a new life away from my father. I land at the road entrance and walk in, folding my wings against my back as I walked in to start my new life in the city of Wellington.
