Terveta-Chapter 6: Questions (Part 3)
"And what if we did have a pup and I end up dying by the claws of a hostile?" he said strongly. "How fair would it be for it or them not to have a father? Or what if..." His eyes dimmed, he could feel a build up of moisture at the corners of his own eyes. "What if we lose them?" he whispered, diverting his gaze from her.
A moment of silence passed before he felt a paw on his shoulder and another on his jaw to force his head to turn towards her.
"Then we try again, Blizzy," she said smiling. "We wouldn't be the first to lose one, and certainly not the last. We'd just have to continue to try until we'd get one to stay."
Blizzard sighed and let his body fall back onto the bed. She crawled up to his side and looked down at him, waiting.
"You know what happened with my brother, Keisha. I don't want to take the chance of anything similar happening because I don't think I could do that again to my own blood," he said, closing his eyes, trying to keep his mind away from the memories.
There was a short pause before he felt his mate begin to slip away a bit. He could tell how much he hurt her and he instantly felt horrible about it.
He sat up and turned to her, seeing her try to hold back tears. He pulled his arms around her body and cradled her against his chest.
"How much does it really mean to you?" he whispered in her ear.
She looked at him form the corner of her eye. "You have no idea."
He nodded and then began to chew on his lips in thought. "What if...What if I did give you a pup or a litter?" he asked slowly.
A faint light began to glow in her eyes. "I'd no longer have to worry about losing you. You don't know how strong the urge is to have one," she whimpered.
Blizzard stared into her eyes before he sighed, giving into her will.
"If it truly means that much to you, then I will give you what you want and deserve," he said and closed his eyes.
She squealed with glee and whirled in his arms to hug him furiously.
"Thank you!" she screamed and snuggled herself into his broad muscular frame. He couldn't help but smirk and pat her back over and over.
"My next heat is in a month, just to let you know," she smiled and pulled her face up to look at him. His breath was taken away when he saw how gorgeous she was in her happy glow.
"Thank you," she murred, and pushed on his chest. He didn't resist as he went down on his back, for he wasn't thinking in the present, instead he was concentrating on the future and what it held.
The following day was laborious from the very start. Alpha, Delta, and Beta squads were in the field, gawking at the damage that was done to the tall vegetation and all the slain hostiles. Seth, Bree, and Crystal had fully recovered, and thanks to the leopard no one was suffering from any more inflictions.
Each soldier was staking the remains of the creatures into a tall pile in a spot of grass that had been destroyed. Crystal was right next to the pile; her paws out to it as a massive flame erupted form her palms, sending the whole stack in a massive flaming pillar.
Keisha and Dean had joined the three squads in cleaning up the mess. Blizzard was staying close to the scientist, not only to ask questions but to observe, for he had not only brought the machine from the previous day, but four others that he said consisted of Eta squad. All the robots were the same size and had the same shape to them; Professor Knetter even explained that there really was no difference to each other's physical abilities. The machines hefted the hostile's bodies into their arms and over their shoulders in large quantities to toss onto the pile. The stench was awful--it made them all queasy to just be in the area.
Dean jotted down notes from a clipboard while he examined the bodies and the constantly growing mound.
"They do have a weapons system though," the scientist said as he accompanied Blizzard to the pile to dispense some bodies onto it, referring to the machines.
