What Good Am I? Chapter Five
#5 of What Good Am I?
The second last (penultimate) chapter of What Good Am I? Featuring Diego Redfield and Friedrich Van Holling.
These two handsome studs were originally created by ColinLeighton for his novel Identity and short story Nighthawks.
Diego's head was spinning.
He could vaguely recall going to sleep after getting back from his old place in San Fernando, before waking up the following morning to get a glass of water, and then collapsing back into bed to sleep for God knows how long. Diego awoke and stirred as he became aware of someone else in the bedroom.
Is it an intruder?
Diego tried sitting up, but his head still ached. The mattress springs sunk slightly as the person sat on the bed. Normally, Diego would be more than apt at fighting off anyone who came into the house with bad intent, but his hungover state made him feel sluggish. He tried burying himself under the covers, the way he had done as a small cub when he believed there was a monster under the bed. The person began sniffing around his armpits and Diego let out a sigh of relief as he suddenly recognised Friedrich's scent. Is real or another dream? Dude you have really gotta finish detox. The sniffing stopped and Diego felt Friedrich's snoot push into the rear of his briefs to the point where it touched his hole before it sniffed deeply again. "Okay bud, when did you last change your undies, or mine I should say?" Friedrich said. No this is definitely real. "Uh, like three days ago," Diego admitted, feeling rather sheepish that he was still wearing his boyfriend's underwear. He glanced over at the digital clock on the bedside table and realised he had been dozing on and off for almost twenty four hours. "Okay, I admit I find it hot when you wear my underwear, but please, please wash them once in a while." "Yeah, I ran out of clean undies, then I used all yours up," Diego slurred, trying to sit up. He knew he should be happy that his boyfriend had returned, but his head was still spinning from the events of the previous day. "Okay Wolfdog, shower time for you. I think you know what I want," Friedrich growled. Diego felt the Alsatian hook his paws over the waistband of the briefs. "Uh, can we like take a rain check for now, I feel like my head is gonna explode," Diego replied as he tried to burrow further under the covers to get away from the piercing light shining through the bedroom curtains.
Friedrich didn't reply. Despite the aching in his head, Diego was acute enough to know something was wrong. Friedrich often went quiet when sensing something was afoot, a trait the Alsatian had no doubt picked up from his time in the marines. Diego poked his head out from under the covers and saw Friedrich gazing at something on the bedside table. All the grogginess vanished as a sickening sense of sheer dread filled Diego's stomach. I left the cocaine laying there! "Shit," he gasped, jumping to his hind-paws. "Freddy, please, I didn't mean..." Diego's head swam as he tried to finish his sentence, but Friedrich's intense glare made him falter. "Didn't mean to do what, mean to do drugs in my house, where my cub is also around. I thought you were off this stuff Diego?" "I was," Diego replied, cursing himself in his mind. Why was I so stupid enough to go meet Melody and bring this stuff home? "I haven't taken any from that stash though," he tried to reason, but the incensed expression was still on Friedrich's face. "Diego if you want to reform you have to make an effort," the Alsatian growled. After the initial fright of being caught by Friedrich, Diego felt a sudden flash of resentment. Friedrich had gone, taken Melanie with him, not bothered to contact him at all and then showed up out of the blue to lecture him and want sex as if Diego had never moved. And Freddy even supports legalising weed he thought to himself. "I wanted a boyfriend, not another father," Diego responded, the words slipped out of his muzzle before he had a chance to stop himself. Friedrich's eyes widened. Shit. Without hesitating, Diego pulled his jeans and wifebeater back on before throwing clothes into a suitcase. Friedrich stood there, seemingly unsure of what to do. "Where are you going?" Friedrich called, his tone seemed angry, but on reflection Diego wondered if there was a hint of concern in there. "I don't know," Diego replied as he ran for the door.
Diego sat back and sighed as the events that had happened over the past few days came full circle. He knew he had to drive back to face Friedrich soon. The clock on the Mercedes' dashboard stated it was almost midnight. Diego's paw hovered over the ignition button. C'mon dude, you have to do this. Diego pressed the button and turned his car back in the direction of the main road. Friedrich's house wasn't too far from the park, but Diego felt like driving as slowly as he could. The Mercedes' engine rumbled as he cruised slowly back through Holland Canyon. The elegant houses behind their hedges and picket fences passed by, and Diego reflected what a peaceful neighbourhood it seemed compared to his old life in San Fernando, but how much longer would he be living in Friedrich's home for? Whether he throws you out or not, you have to go and face it like a man he told himself as he drove along.
Friedrich's house came into view and Diego felt his heart in his mouth as he pulled into the driveway. He glanced at himself in the rear view mirror one last time, took a deep breath and climbed out of the car. Diego couldn't help but feel a twinge of sadness as he walked to the front door, coming back to your lover's house should be a joyful thing to do, yet Diego was now dreading it. He knocked and then realised he hadn't prepared for what he was going to say to Friedrich. Sorry babe I did drugs and ran off, no don't say babe just yet, but sorry I did drugs sounds too blunt. Before Diego could actually come up with anything to say the door opened and Diego involuntarily let out a yelp before composing himself. Friedrich was standing in his green bathrobe. "Hey," Diego said, before wincing at how weak and casual he sounded. Friedrich didn't seem angry, instead eyes conveyed a mixture of surprise and concern. "Come in Diego," he said with no traceable emotion in his voice. "I tried calling, but I guess you didn't feel like picking up." "Yeah, I'm sorry," Diego replied quietly. "The Uganda bill passed quicker than expected," Friedrich explained, his tone was now business-like. "It's now onto the Senate and I'm not longer required in DC. Do you still have your suitcase in the car?" The Alsatian asked, gesturing for Diego to follow him. "Yeah, I did. In case I have to leave or sleep somewhere else," Diego admitted. "You don't have to sleep somewhere else, you can bring it inside later," Friedrich asserted. Diego felt his tail start to wag, but he stopped himself. Something in Friedrich's tone told him he wasn't out of the woods yet. "I was just in the living room watching something," Friedrich explained. "I'll finish it and then we'll have a heart to heart." Friedrich led Diego to the living where the Alsatian had straightened out the cushions on the sofa and had a cup of green tea sitting on the coffee table. Diego glanced at the television, wondering what Friedrich had been watching.
He felt his heart skip a beat.
Friedrich picked up the remote and pressed play. The screen was filled with a group of small puppies standing on a stage, clapping their paws and wagging their tails to the beat of some music. Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket save it for a rainy day, they sang before barking and yapping in between each verse. Diego gulped as he recognised himself standing in the middle of the group, clapping his paws while his little tail wagged enthusiastically. "I see you found the elementary school disc too," Diego said, shifting uncomfortably. "What made you want to watch it?" "Because I find it amusing, but also cute too," Friedrich admitted, sipping the last of his tea. Diego felt his ears grow red and he kept standing awkwardly until the footage came to an end. "That was quite adorable," Friedrich mused as he turned the television off. "But it makes me wonder how the little cub in that video grew up to become like the man standing in my living room now." Diego wasn't sure what to say. "So, are you still mad that I brought coke into the house?" he asked cautiously. "I am, very much so," Friedrich replied, patting the spot on the sofa next to him for Diego to sit down, but Diego noticed Friedrich's voice was now curt. "I've had a few hours to calm down and think things through. As tempting as it is to shout, curse at you, lecture you about the dangers of hard drugs, say you're an ass for bringing that to where my daughter lives, kick you out- and I still think you're an ass for doing that and the thought of asking you to go crossed my mind, I'm going to try and refrain from all that. After you left I found your detox pills in the bathroom." Diego sighed and splayed his ears. "I wish you had told me about all that," Friedrich said, his hackles rising slightly. Diego instinctively flinched and didn't answer. "Why didn't you?" Friedrich demanded, his voice becoming a growl. "Dad, who are you talking to?" Both Friedrich and Diego turned to see Melanie standing in the doorway, dressed in her pyjamas. "Daddy Diego!" She exclaimed with delight, running into the living room. "Melanie, what are you doing out of bed?" Friedrich asked, but Melanie didn't answer and ran to Diego who instinctively stood up. Melanie threw her arms around Diego and hugged him, pressing her head to his stomach. "I missed you Daddy Diego, my Dad's other place is so boring. We should watch a movie, like we said we were going to. Can we watch My Fair Lady?" the Alsatian cub asked, wagging her tail. "Yeah, yeah we should," Diego replied carefully, fixing her a smile. "Melanie, you should be in bed," Friedrich said sternly. "Sorry Dad," Melanie sighed, before giving Diego another hug and leaving the room. "Melanie was supposed to stay with Emily tonight, but she had a family issue to take care of so I brought her back here," Friedrich explained tersely.
Diego and Friedrich sat back down on the sofa and Diego took a deep breath before he kept talking. "I didn't tell you about the detox because, because I thought you would kick me out if you knew I wasn't fully off the hard stuff," he admitted. Friedrich paused, his temper simmering down, and nodded as he considered Diego's point. "Diego, I want to help you. I feel offended you didn't tell me, but I can see your predicament." "So, you're not going to break up with me or kick me out?" "No," Friedrich replied firmly, shaking his head. "I don't want to break up with you, but I do ask for two things; an apology and that you finished your course of detox. I know you are a strong guy Diego, you can do it." Diego closed his eyes as tightly as he could before opening them again. "I'm sorry Freddy, I was being an ass. I didn't think things through properly, and I promise I will finish." "Good," Friedrich replied, and for the first time that night a smile spread across his muzzle. He reached out and placed an arm gently around Diego's shoulders. "I... I'm sorry, I thought you were gonna kick me out," Diego said quietly, splaying his ears again and putting his tail between his legs. "Diego, I love you. I won't throw you out," Friedrich whispered. "It's okay. I forgive you, you're safe now, I've got you." Friedrich held the muscular Wolfdog close and gently stroked Diego's neckfluff. "I promise I'll never do drugs again, I wanna be a good father to Melanie and a good mate for you," Diego replied. "That's all I ask for Diego, you and Melanie are the centre of my universe. In fact, I owe you an apology too," the Alsatian sighed. "What do you mean?" "I should have left Melanie with you for a little while longer. Being her biological father, my gut instinct was to have her with me, but all she could talk about was how enjoyable it is when you look after her. You can appreciate how hectic my job gets, but I should have messaged more often and told you how we were getting on. After I came to terms with Conor's death, I began keeping my eyes out for a potential mate who would not only be loyal, but okay with the fact I had a cub. You came into my life and you've been more than just okay, you've been a wonderful second father, and I've come to the conclusion that it was silly to search for a guy who would be a good parent only to deny him the opportunity to get to know my daughter properly." Diego allowed his ears to become more perky. "Even if I let her stay up too late and eat candy after she brushes her teeth?" "I'll pretend I didn't hear that Diego," Friedrich replied. The Alsatian reached out and gently placed a paw on Diego's chest. "You are a strong, handsome man, but I sense in here you lack self-confidence. Now, I don't want to turn this into a therapy session, but if you realised that you are capable of more in life than you actually think, you can manage without drugs and alcohol whilst I'm away on political business." "I guess you're right," Diego nodded. Friedrich smiled, leaned over and kissed Diego on the muzzle before letting out a yawn. "Excuse me, this has been a very draining few days. I suggest we go to bed and rest," Friedrich added.
Diego followed Friedrich upstairs. I'm not getting thrown out, I'm not getting thrown out! Diego felt relief and euphoria course through his body as they walked to the bedroom. He noticed that Friedrich had also changed the sheets and tidied all the clothes away, and felt a sudden rush of gratitude. Friedrich shed his bathrobe and Diego saw the Alsatian was wearing his black Armani briefs which took Diego back to the morning after their first night together. Diego pulled his wifebeater and jeans off, followed by Friedrich's briefs that he had been wearing the past few days. I'm gonna promise to myself to put these in the wash tomorrow. "If I could suggest one other thing that would be a shower before you get into bed, as sexy as musk can be," Friedrich said, sniffing at Diego's armpit. "Yeah, I kinda need one," Diego agreed. He walked to the bathroom, turned the shower on and stood under the warm jet. Even though Friedrich had expressed his forgiveness, Diego still felt hesitant to climb into bed with his boyfriend, but he allowed the warm water to wash his worries away.
Once he felt clean, Diego shut off the water, shook himself dry and walked back to the bedroom. Friedrich held up the covers and beckoned for Diego to climb in. Diego's tail wagged slightly as he crawled under the covers and Friedrich wrapped an arm around him. He could feel the Alsatian's sheath press into his rump, and while usually Diego would find the feeling highly arousing, it brought back the memory of when Moon tried to make a move on him. Diego sighed. "Is something wrong?" Friedrich asked. "While you were away I ended up hanging out with this guy, well I didn't want to hang out with him, but he was a Tiger named Moon and he tried sucking me off when I was drunk," Diego explained, waiting for Friedrich to get mad again. "Did he succeed?" "Nah, not really. He didn't get my cock in his mouth properly. The guy was kinda disgusting, I wouldn't want him anywhere near me. Why do you ask, should I get an STI test?" "If he didn't succeed you'd be okay, but your tale was putting ideas in my head, even if the guy was weird." Diego surprised but relieved by Friedrich's comment and shuffled over closer to his boyfriend. "That doesn't make you mad too?" "I won't dare enquire how you ended up in such a situation Diego," Friedrich replied with something close to a chuckle. "But I'm more annoyed at the fact someone tried to take advantage of my boyfriend." Diego smiled, he didn't usually consider himself to be the soppy romantic type, but at that moment he couldn't help but feel a rush of affection for Friedrich. He placed his arm around Friedrich's chest and pressed his body gently into the Alsatian's. "Diego?" Diego glanced down and realised a few inches of cock had emerged from his sheath and was poking Friedrich in the rump. "Oh, uh," Diego stammered, but Friedrich didn't seem to mind. "Is this where we have makeup sex which is hot and totally awesome, or causes more awkwardness?" "I'm a little tired," the Alsatian explained with another chuckle. "Tomorrow I'm taking part in a news debate concerning the Uganda vote, they're thankfully filming it via satellite from my San Amador office, then I have a town hall meeting scheduled in Alvarado concerning the Humboldt nuclear scheme, I fear some of the folk in my district will think I've neglected the issue while I've been away, but that shouldn't take too long as it's a small town. You'll have Melanie in the morning, but I'm afraid I promised I'd take her to a school friend's tonight she'd been dying to see, but then..." a devilish grin suddenly spread across Friedrich's muzzle. "We can do what I think we've been anticipating." Friedrich's paw ventured up Diego's leg and began stroking the Wolfdog's sheath. Diego lay back as the Alsatian's paw gripped his dick and began slowly jerking. "I have missed being able to do that," Friedrich whispered. Before Diego could reply, Friedrich's head disappeared under the sheets and he felt the Alsatian's muzzle around his cock. Diego gritted his teeth as Friedrich teased the tip with his tongue before licking the shaft. "Nnng, you're gonna get me off dude," Diego growled as Friedrich slipped the Wolfdog's cock into his mouth and worked his way up and down. "I'll finish the job tomorrow," Friedrich teased, shuffling back up to lay next to Diego. "Aw, don't leave me hanging," "Tomorrow," Friedrich asserted, giving Diego a kiss on the muzzle.
As Diego drifted off to sleep, he recalled the lyrics of the song he had listened to on the night Friedrich had left. I'm not the sort of person who falls In and quickly out of love But to you I gave my affection Right from the start. Diego sang softly to himself. "Where did you hear that?" Friedrich murmured. "Oh, sorry dude I didn't mean to wake you. I found it in your record collection and listened to it the night you left," Diego explained. Friedrich smiled. "It was a vinyl that I bought while I was on vacation in England ten years ago," Friedrich explained. "I'm glad you discovered it though and have taken an interest in records, what's mine is yours." Diego thumped his tail against the sheets, but let out a yawn. "Let's get some sleep, we've both had an emotionally draining day and need our strength, good night stud," Friedrich whispered, giving Diego another kiss.
As he drifted off to sleep,Diego knew in his heart he should do something nice or helpful for Friedrich. A grin spread across his muzzle as an idea came to his mind...
