Throughout Kapernia there are hundreds of different wolf tribes that choose to live off the land as opposed to becoming "domesticated" and living in a more modern setting. Each wolf tribe had its own traditions and customs and while some were the same regardless of the tribe, there were a few that were unique. The Silver Lake Tribe in Northern Center Island was no exception. Like every other wolf tribe, the Silver Lake tribe was led by an alpha male and alpha female...the lone breeding pair of the tribe. However, unlike some tribes, the other adult females were permitted to be mated by the alpha male should he choose to do so...although the subordinate females would have to remain sterile for as long as the alpha female could produce pups.

Another thing that was a bit different in this tribe compared to the others was in the way that the pups produced by the alpha couple would be raised. In wolf tribes, it was common practice to have the sons of the alpha couple leave the tribe to form tribes of their own upon their 18th birthday. Females usually had a choice between staying with their birth tribe to help raise future pups, or leave the tribe to find a suitable male to form a tribe with. In the Silver Lake tribe, though, all the pups left the tribe once they reached 18 years old. This was soon to be the case for the alpha couple's first litter, which had just come of age.

At midnight, the day after their 18th birthday, over by the communal bonfire, the four young adults approached their parents for the ceremony. Their two sons, Hunter and Chase were first. Hunter and Chase were identical twins, both having silvery black fur like their mother, sky blue eyes, and long dark blonde hair. The two males were fairly tall and strong, much like their father and often worked together on hunts.

Their father approached his sons as they kneeled down before him as their two sisters looked on. "Hunter...Chase...you have made your mother and I very proud. You have learned well and have helped provide much food and deer pelts for the pack. Which makes it all the more difficult to have you leave", the alpha male told his sons. "However, now that you are grown, your destiny lies beyond the bounds of our pack. You must leave to fulfill this destiny...to find alpha females of your own, and carry on the legacy that your mother and I have started with you", the alpha male continued as their mother provided her mate with two ceremonial deer antler daggers with the family's crest upon the blade.

The alpha male then presented each blade to his sons as Hunter and Chase took them while remaining kneeled down before him. "We know that you two will make us proud, and we know that you'll be able to be successful providers for your future pups", their father explained as the two younger males took their gifts and rose to their feet. Then, with one last hug for their father and a nuzzle for their mother, the two males left the pack to search for mates of their own. Now, it was time for their daughters to have their turn.

First up was Lydia, another silvery black wolf like her brothers, with long dark blonde hair, green eyes, and a sexy appearance. She was a rare "natural" lupine, having multiple pairs of breasts and a vulva shaped like that of their four-legged counterparts. She was a strong hunter like her brothers and seemed to be destined to become a strong alpha female and produce many litters of strong pups. Like her brothers, Lydia was given the speech and another deer antler dagger. Then, like her brothers, Lydia left her birth tribe to start one of her own.

Finally, after Lydia, the "runt" of the litter would have her turn. Out of the four siblings, Liana had the hardest time. She was considerably shorter than her other siblings, being closer to the average height of a vixen as opposed to an adult female wolf. She didn't have the same kind of curves as Lydia had, making attracting a mate more difficult, and needed glasses to see. However, her parents were sympathetic towards Liana, especially her father, since she was the only one of the pups who took mostly after him...considering that Liana's fur was silver and white (like most wolves), her father's sky blue eyes, and brown hair.

"Liana...you have overcome so much in your life up to this point, and it pains me to have you go out into the world like this. However, the laws of the pack must be obeyed, and that means that you must be free to live your own life", her father explained as her mother presented Liana with one more deer antler dagger...but along with it came 5,000 UIC Dollars as well as a bus ticket to Center City. Apparently, Liana's parents didn't believe that she would be able to make it in the wild on her own and would have difficulty forming a pack. As a pup, Lydia often gave Liana a hard time, and things only got worse when Lydia started puberty. However, Hunter and Chase were loyal to their sister, and without their parents knowing about it, they took Liana on many of their hunts once they were old enough to hunt without parental supervision.

"Mom...Dad...I can do this! I don't want to live in the city! I want to stay in the wild, use the skills I've learned to hunt my own food, start a pack of my own!", Liana exclaimed as she seemed to see the bus ticket and money as an insult to her ability to function as a hunter. Liana took the dagger from her mother, but left the money and bus ticket behind. Like her siblings, she did hug her parents afterwards, seeing as she still loved them. While her parents admired Liana's determination, they were still fearful for her well-being. If she ever lost her glasses, Liana wouldn't be able to see well enough to hunt on her own and that could lead to all sorts of trouble. Plus, it was also a deterrent for males who might want to pursue the female, thinking that if they bred with her that their pups would not be as strong as they'd like them to be. In the end though, this was Liana's decision alone, and as they watched their daughter disappear into the woods by herself, the alpha couple held hands while looking worried.

For the time-being, Liana's immediate concern was to find a spot to make shelter for the night. She wandered through the woods for about an hour before coming onto a spot next to a creek that provided a space to build a fire as well as small bushes to use as cover. Life for a young lone wolf was more difficult than it was in an established tribe, until she found a male wolf to pair up with she'd have to do build a shelter, hunt, and do everything she needed to survive on her own. Fortunately, she was well taught on how to do these things by her parents, but learning and doing were two different things and without a partner to assist her, it was a lot more difficult. Still, Liana was able to make a makeshift roof out of branches from nearby trees, using them to cover the space in between the bushes where she would shelter for the night. She soon started her own fire out of a fire pit she built and covered up in the deer pelt she had with her as a blanket. There, she would rest for the night.

When morning came, so did the hunger, and the young female grabbed her dagger in search of her first independent meal. These woods were filled with a healthy population on non-anthro deer and elk, with a single bull elk being able to feed a small tribe of wolves for an entire day. However, it also required a pack of wolves to hunt an elk or a healthy buck. For a lone wolf like Liana, she would either have to get lucky and come across an injured buck, or have to settle for something smaller and easier to carry. Wolf tribes rarely hunted females or their young, only doing so in times of desperation, and while Liana needed to eat, she had no intention of killing a doe or a fawn. So, she'd likely have to settle for something like a rabbit, though it would also mean that even if she caught one, she'd have to hunt again later since a rabbit would only provide enough meat to keep her from being hungry for a few hours.

Liana started to wander through the woods, searching for something to hunt, when she stumbled upon something she didn't expect to find. Beyond a group of bushes, she discovered a modern house in the middle of the woods, complete with a paved road that led from the house to a nearby county road. Outside of the house, Liana discovered that there was a female wolf (or one who she thought was female) over by an outdoor fire pit, having some venison being cooked over the flames. This mysterious "female" wore only a loin cloth made of deer hide, traditional tribal garb, indicating that this "female" was either a part of a tribe currently, or had been part of one. There were no other wolves around, and Liana didn't see a male, so she was confused about why a non-tribal female would want to build a modern home in the middle of the woods, several miles from the nearest incorporated town, and wear tribal garments.

Before she could ponder it some more though, the "female" noticed Liana and looked in her direction. "Hey! You there! What do you think you're doing?", the "female" wolf called out to Liana, making the inexperienced wolf fem panic. Liana figured that she needed to run, thinking that she had disturbed private property. However, she heard the "female" call out to her. "Come over here...I would like to have a word with you", the "female" wolf called out, doing so in a more hospitable tone than when she first called to Liana.

Curiously, Liana approached while the home owner tended to her deer meat. Liana wasn't sure what to expect, but usually when a tribal wolf intruded on another's land it usually ended in a fight, or with the intruder getting chased off. Liana was aware of this possibility and was prepared to run if she felt the need, but it seemed as if the "female" wolf wasn't interested in doing so. Instead, she offered Liana some breakfast and a seat by her fire pit to exchange words. This is when Liana started to learn some interesting things about the home owner.

For one thing, the mysterious "female" wolf was named Alexa and she originated from the Northern Woodville tribe, which was located just outside of the town of Woodville, the nearest town to where the two wolves were. The Northern Woodville tribe was more "domesticated" and "modernized" than Liana's old tribe. For the most part, they lived like most any other Kapernian, having modern houses...driving cars and other motorized vehicles...and all pairs in the tribe were allowed to mate and produce pups. However, Alexa's tribe was not completely "domesticated". While they did periodically go into town for supplies, they lived off the land as much as possible...always hunting their own prey, gathering berries and herbs, while also growing their own gardens. Just like Liana, Alexa was trained to hunt at a young age and seemed to be proficient at it, considering the venison that was freshly cooked.

All tribal wolves were well aware that very few tribes had the exact same rules, and were linked by the desire to hunt and live off the land. Liana didn't seem to mind that Alexa lived like she did. However, what Alexa mentioned next did raise some questions for the Silver Lake female.

"You know, you're the first female wolf I've seen around here in the five years since I moved in...and quite honestly, I'm glad that you showed up, because I've been wondering if I would ever find a female to make my alpha", Alexa explained to Liana while she was eating, causing Liana's ears to perk up and to open her mouth wide with deer meat falling out of it when Alexa mentioned that she wanted to make Liana her alpha female.

Liana knew that bisexuality and homosexuality was somewhat common in wolf tribes...especially amongst lower-ranking members of the tribe. However, Liana was straight and preferred to stay that way. "I'm sorry, but I'm just not interested in females that way", Liana explained calmly, trying to be polite about it.

Alexa blushed a little and smiled. "Who said anything about me being female?", Alexa mentioned, lifting up the loin cloth to reveal she had something else underneath there. That something else happened to be a sheath and two testicles. "Sure, I may have all the same parts that you have, but as you can see, I have male parts too", Alexa commented politely. "They're fully functional as well, so I can do anything a male wolf could do to you...if you'd be interested", Alexa continued as Liana looked curiously, unsure of what to make of this new development.

Liana moved closer to Alexa and put her hand on the sheath, rubbing it a little as Alexa started to pant a little, sensing the rubbing along hir lupine shaft, causing it to emerge from its sheath. Indeed, it looked just like that of any lupine male Liana would ever encounter, and it seemed as if Alexa had taken a liking to Liana. However, before Liana could get carried away, Alexa moved away from the curious Silver Lake female.

"Hold on there...I can see you're interested in what I have, but before I take you as my alpha female, you must first prove that your worthy of being the mother of our pups", Alexa explained. "This afternoon, the two of us will head out into the woods together on a hunt for a nice and meaty buck. If we can successfully catch our prey, you will be permitted to live with me and I shall be your mate", Alexa continued. This was typical courtship behavior for single wolves that were interested in becoming a pair, forming their own tribe, and having their own pups. It was meant to prove that the two could work as a team and provide for their future family. "So...are you interested in joining me?", Alexa asked, thinking that Liana might still have some sort of objection to being the alpha female of a hermaphrodite.

Surprisingly to Alexa, Liana accepted the offer, showing that she wasn't too picky about the kind of mate she would have. All that mattered to Liana was that Alexa could give her the pups she wanted to have and be a reliable partner. With that, Alexa offered Liana some of hir own homemade hunting weapons, which were a bit more reliable than Liana's dagger. Alexa had a bow with arrows made from sharpened flat rocks shi collected. Shi also had wooden spears with sharpened rocks that could either be thrown from a distance or used up close. For this hunt, Alexa and Liana would be using the spears, with each of them taking one before going out. The idea Alexa had was to find a non-anthro buck or maybe even a bull elk and either spear it from a distance, or have one of them give chase with the other waiting in the bushes ready to ambush their prey.

Before the two wolves set out on their hunting expedition, they further prepared to ensure that they came back with a fresh kill. Both covered themselves in a blend of Musk Plant Oil and crushed wildflowers. The Musk Plant Oil was designed to kill any possible scent that the two wolves had while the wildflowers helped to make the ordinarily foul-smelling Musk Plant Oil bearable to their own noses. A simple shower would all that would be needed to wash it off later, once they had achieved their goal. In addition to the Musk Plant Oil, Alexa also brought with hir a leather bag, containing several different kinds of rope. There were short but strong ropes, intended to tie a fresh kill to a stick so the two of them could easily transport it back, and one 25-foot rope for special circumstances.

Liana also had a leather bag on her as they went out. Hers contained the dagger she was given, a hatchet to chop down wood (with the blade covered, of course), and an emergency first aid kit in case one of them got injured while they were out. If Alexa and Liana had a pack of wolves to join them, the strategy would be to surround their prey and attack as a group, maximizing the potential for a successful hunt. However, since it was just the two of them, they had to be a lot more stealthy and creative with their hunting.

Since Alexa was more familiar with the area, shi led the way, letting Liana follow hir to a place where shi knew deer and elk usually grazed. It was a heavily wooded area of the forest, with not many open pathways for a deer or elk to move around, but plenty of berry-producing bushes to entice deer and other animals to take a chance on eating there. When they reached the bushes lining the clearing where Alexa knew that deer came to feed, shi stopped Liana and told hir to keep quiet.

Inside the clearing was an old eight-pointed buck who was still in velvet. It was the middle of summer, so it wasn't time for the velvet to come off the buck's antlers yet, meaning that the buck would be less aggressive than he would be if he had shed the velvet and his rack were fully exposed. That being said, the buck had been around for quite some time, and was not as quick as he used to be. He had been through several mating seasons, several battles with other bucks for the right to breed with does, and had passed on his seed to over a dozen fawns in his lifetime...many of which had gone on to produce fawns of their own.

The buck made an ideal target for the two wolves. Not only would the slower male be easier for them to take down, it would also do the younger and faster bucks a favor come autumn by eliminating the competition for does. Alexa knew that the clearing had only two reliable entry points, so shi got an idea quickly, taking out the 25-foot-long rope. Shi figured that shi could tie one end of the rope around a tree trunk and do the same to the other end, creating a trip trap. Meanwhile, shi would have Liana come around towards the other entry point and ambush the buck from the side. Alexa figured that if Liana couldn't spear the buck when she attacked, she would at least scare him down the only other open pathway, right towards the trap Alexa would make. Alexa figured that the buck would trip on the rope, fall to the ground and either disorient it long enough for either wolf to deliver the killing blow, or break one of the buck's legs, also making it easy to kill.

Liana followed Alexa's lead and slowly moved towards the side entry point as Alexa quietly made hir way to the main entry point and built hir trap. The buck was totally unaware of the impending danger. He was too busy feeding on wild raspberries and the smell of the Musk Plant Oil gave no indication that there were two wolves nearby wanting to make a meal out of him.

As she approached the side entry point, Liana held her spear tightly and remained quiet. This was her big chance to prove that she could be a true hunter, just like her brothers and sister. She took a breath, clutched the spear in her hands and then darted out, growling wildly and scaring the elderly buck out of his wits. He bellowed, raised his tail like a warning flag, trying to find his way out and away from the hunter. This was when Liana let her spear fly from her hand, aiming at the buck, attempting to hit its chest. It struck the buck's flesh, but not in an area that would've brought it down. Instead, it hit the buck on the right hind leg, causing pain to the elderly male and slowing him down a bit, but still not enough to prevent it from escaping.

With Liana standing by the side entry point, with her dagger now out and the intent to kill the wounded buck if he foolishly came towards her, the buck darted down the main entry path, not noticing the rope tied between the two trees. The buck bleated and fell to the ground, being knocked out by the fall. That was when Alexa popped out from behind a nearby bush, took out hir spear and jammed it into the back of the buck's head, killing it instantly.

With the freshly killed buck lying on the ground, Liana made her way down the main pathway, carefully avoiding the rope as Alexa removed her spear from the back of the buck's head. "You did well...but you need to work on your aim a little bit. Bucks will become much more aggressive when the mating season starts and you may run into a situation where you need perfect aim to avoid getting injured or killed", Alexa told Liana in a calm tone as shi removed the spear that Liana through from the buck's leg. "Anyway, now that we've got our kill, let's find a nice strong branch we can use to bring it back home", Alexa suggested as the two wolves now worked to bring their prize back to Alexa's house for processing.

They worked together, with Liana finding a long branch to chop down with the hatchet and Alexa then tying the buck's legs to the branch in a way that would make sure he would stay on there until they got back to hir house. Then, working as a team, Alexa and Liana carried the branch with the dead buck dangling from the branch on the underside. All that was left of the spot where the dead buck once lay was a bit of blood on the dirt and foliage on the forest floor.

When they returned to Alexa's house, the buck was placed in an ice locker that Alexa had installed, one that would keep the buck fresh until shi could take it to be properly processed. Shi already had some fresh deer meat available, so the buck would just ensure that shi and Liana would have more to eat for a while longer.

Once the buck was put into the ice locker, the two wolves put away their leather bags and then went straight into the master bathroom, going to the shower to wash off the Musk Plant Oil. Alexa and Liana showered together, with Alexa being behind Liana as the warm water rained down on both of them. As they were doing this, Alexa reached down to Liana's hips and gently held them while hir lupine shaft began to come out of its sheath, brushing up against Liana's rump. "Mmm...after we're done in the shower, we'll have some dinner...and then, my dear, I shall make you my alpha female", Alexa commented in a somewhat playful tone as hir penis reached its full length and dribbled precum onto Liana's tush.

Liana didn't seem to mind Alexa's eagerness to mate. In fact, she was looking forward to it. She knew that her parents worried that she would never become the alpha female of a pack and produce pups of her own...at least not in the way that they would've wanted her to. However, with Alexa as her partner, she could continue to live off the land like a tribal wolf and lead a more comfortable life than she had growing up in her birth pack.

That evening, the two wolves had a dinner of fresh cooked venison over a roaring fire. Then, after they had eaten, it was time for Alexa to officially make Liana hir alpha female. It was a tradition amongst wolf packs where an alpha male, upon finding or choosing a willing female to be his mate would present her with something of personal value, to signify that the female he chose was the one he wanted to have as his loyal partner, and the future mother of their pups. In Alexa's case, things were a bit different.

Since shi had both male and female reproductive anatomy, Alexa had a choice of becoming either an alpha "male" or an alpha "female", all shi had to do was find a willing partner to join with hir. Since it seemed as if Liana was willing to mate with Alexa and have pups from hir seed later, Alexa chose to be the alpha "male" in this case and followed with tradition. Alexa brought out a small wooden box that shi had kept with hir since leaving hir birth tribe. Inside the box there was a silver coin that was about the diameter of a golfball. On the coin was the crest of the Northern Woodville tribe on one side, and the image of a wolf howling at the full moon on the other side. Every member of Alexa's former tribe received this as a gift on their 18th birthday and was a symbol of where they came from. Now, it would be a symbol of Alexa's devotion to have Liana as hir mate, and hir devotion to the pups that they would produce together once the time was right.

Of course, Liana had no intention of getting pregnant right away. It would take a little bit of time before she was settled in enough to be willing to breed. Furthermore, there would be things to do before they started having pups anyway, like make expansions to the property so that they could shelter their future offspring, come up with a new crest for their new tribe, gather more meat so that Liana would have plenty to eat while she was carrying the pups, since Liana would not be able to hunt with Alexa once she reached a certain point in pregnancy...or while nursing their pups.

However, none of this was an immediate concern to the new pair. For now, everything was being treated in a symbolic way, which would bring them to the final step of their newly formed mateship. When an alpha female accepts an alpha male as her mate, the couple has sex together to secure their bond. Sometimes, this mating leads to the creation of pups, but other times it does not. It all depended on the time of the year as well as the fertility of the female. Summertime was the time of the year when the reproductive hormones in female wolves were at their lowest. This, combined with a dose of wild yiffberries that Alexa provided Liana with would ensure that when Alexa mated with and inseminated Liana that no pups would be produced from their mating. They would wait until winter came around before starting to add to their tribe.

Nonetheless, Liana and Alexa played everything out just like they would if Liana were receptive. Since Liana was still a virgin, the first mating would be somewhat uncomfortable for her, at least for the first few moments. But, she was willing to let Alexa mount her and soon got down on all fours, picking out a spot that was close to the warmth of the fire, but had enough space around them for a copulatory tie to be turned. Then, the curious and eager female wolf lifted her tail and presented her rear end to Alexa, thinking that this would surely arouse hir.
