Why am I here chapter 3
#4 of Why am I here?
Sam stands at the edge of his driveway, waiting for the school bus to come to his house and pick him up. He shivers as he looks up and down the street.
Sam: Where the hell is the bus? *looks up and down the street* It should've picked me up a few minutes ago.
Finally, after a whole 10 minutes pass by, a substitute bus picks Sam up from his driveway. He sits in his normal seat in the back of the bus and puts on his headphones. He looks out the window and watches the world go by as his playlist plays the first song.
Sam: *shuts his eyes for few minutes as his music plays*
Eventually, the bus drives to the high school and drops Sam and the other students off. Sam walks to the front of the school which has a sign above the door that reads "have a good Christmas break students." Sam scoffs at the sign.
Sam: I won't have a good Christmas break. I never do.
Suddenly, a hand lands on his shoulder, scaring Sam out of his little trance. He turns and sees that it's his best Friend Cody.
Cody: Hey Sam, how's it going? *he makes a huge smile, showing off his braces*
Sam: Are you ever gonna get rid of those god damn braces? *makes his way to the front doors*
Cody: I tried to but my mom said that it would be too expansive. *follows Sam* She always says that everything I want is too expensive.
Sam: Not everything is expensive. *waves at one of his favorite teachers who waves back* There are some things that are below a hundred dollars.
Cody: I know, it's just that she won't get anything at that price range.
Sam: She must be one of those parents who saves all their money and won't buy things unless they absolutely need them.
Cody: *walks to their first period class* Not exactly.
Sam and Cody walk into their first period class which is English. Sam puts his backpack down next to his desk and walks over to Cody's desk to talk to him before the bell to start school rings.
Sam: Did you make a Christmas list yet?
Cody: No, I haven't gotten the chance to. I've been busy studying for the midterm exams. *rummages through his backpack for a pencil*
Sam: I would've studied if my brother hadn't distracted me during the weekend. He's always distracting me whenever I have work.
Cody: Maybe he wants to spend time with you. You haven't hung out with Jake since he started working in the military. Try playing video games or go out on walks with him sometime, don't sit in your room all day watching Breaking Bad.
Sam: *sighs* Okay, I'll try.
The bell rings and everyone sits down in their assigned desks. The teacher begins to talk but is interrupted by the intercom. Everyone does the pledge, the announcements are said then the announcer is done. The teacher continues what he was about to say.
Mr. Swanson: Good morning students. I hope everyone has had a wonderful weekend and studied hard for the midterm exams. I have a few announcements before we start the exam. Firstly, we have a new student joining us today. *looks over at the quiet student standing at the back of the room*
Everyone follows Mr. Swanson's gaze. The new student makes their way to the front of the class. They stand right next to Mr. Swanson.
Mr. Swanson: Why don't you tell a little bit about yourself?
The new student looks at the class and clears their throat. He begins to speak.
Austin: Well, my name is Austin, I'm 17 years old and I'm basically a nerd. I like to read and write and I like to draw sometimes. *he suddenly cuts himself off and looks at the floor*
Mr. Swanson: It's okay Austin, you don't have to be nervous.
Austin breathes calmly and tell the class about himself.
Mr. Swanson: Okay Austin, thank you for telling us about yourself. You can sit in the desk behind Sam. Now class, we can start the exam.
Mr. Swanson hands out the answer sheets and exam papers as Austin sits down in the desk behind Sam. Everyone except Austin takes the exam.
