Tabitha's Kittens

NOTE: This story is a follow-up to "Welcome Home, Again" and features the same couple from that story.

The next several weeks were extremely busy for Ryan and Tabitha as they made their move from the busy life of Lake City to a more humble and quiet life in the town of Familia. They sold the house that they were living in to another young couple who was just starting out in life, then brought their things with them to their new home in Familia. Meanwhile, Ryan started his new job as base commander of the Elite Guard Reserve Base in Familia as officers from the surrounding area started to arrive. In addition to running the base, Ryan would also run the newly opened recruitment center just northeast of the base. The new center would serve Familia as well as the communities to the north and east of town...those not already covered by the center that was in the larger city of Odessa to the southwest.

Once Ryan and Tabitha finally got settled into their new home, the couple took the next step in their personal lives, with the help of the kitsune twins who introduced them to Familia several weeks earlier and several others. Under Raposian Law, Ryan and Tabitha became husband and wife, with a complete wedding ceremony and reception afterward. To Ryan and Tabitha, who never had a family aside from each other, they started to feel as if the town of Familia was a part of their family, making them feel welcome in their new home.

Fortunately, Mother Nature co-operated with the twins as they got settled into town, with no major natural disasters occurring that required widespread Elite Guard deployment. There were also no military threats of any kind, so Ryan had things easy for the first few months of living in Familia.

While Ryan was getting used to his new position in the Elite Guard, Tabitha was getting used to her new life in the smaller community. With Ryan's new position, the couple could afford to have two cars, one for each of them. Because Ryan spent so much time on the base or at the recruitment center, Tabitha did most of the shopping for the couple. This also meant that the two of them would spend more time apart on any given day, with each sibling busy with their own respective jobs. That being said, Ryan always found time to love his sister and to make her feel all warm and sticky on the inside whenever they had sex together. Many Kapernians in town didn't have to make much adjustments for the winter conditions since their fur was usually thick enough to keep them warm while still wearing normal clothing. Of course, for the founders, the winters in Familia were a huge departure from those they were used to. They were used to the snow and bitter cold that came along with the typical Minnesota winters they went through. While other Kapernians were wearing full-length pants and shirts, the kitsune twins often felt comfortable in shorts and thin T-shirts.

The winter was a bit cooler than what Ryan and Tabitha were used to, since the Lake City winters were more like that you'd find in a place like New Orleans, which was even warmer than the typical weather for a winter in Familia. As such, on cooler days, Tabitha had to wear a sweater over her inner shirt for added warm, along with mittens and "ear warmers". Ryan had it a little easier in his Elite Guard uniform, but he too had to wear ear warmers and gloves on colder days. Of course, there were some advantages to the colder days as well. It gave Ryan and Tabitha more of an excuse to cuddle together when they had a chance to spend quality time, with Ryan usually licking the side of his sister's neck as he snuggled with her, purring sweetly to Tabitha while they were naked underneath the covers. They continued to live like this through January, where on January 10 the twins would receive a big surprise. Ryan went to the front door of the house that morning to pick up his copy of the "Odessa Valley Gazette", the local newspaper for Familia, Odessa, and the remainder of Odessa county and several surrounding communities. He picked up the paper and looked at the story on the front page for a second before his mouth and eyes opened wide. "Hey Tabi! Come over here and read this!", he shouted to his sister, who was in the kitchen making some coffee for the two of them. Many other couples within the city limits of Familia celebrated the news as they could be with the ones they loved legally. There were still some restrictions in place, though. Of course, the hotels in Vixen Hill were usually booked solid on "Love Day", often months in advance, so getting a room in the city would prove to be difficult.

He tried the Honeymoon Hotel, Heavenly Haven, and the Lover's Lagoon, but all three places were booked solid, there weren't any openings available for them until early March. The Stiles Hotel in Vixen Hill had available rooms, but unlike the other hotels in town the Stiles Hotel was not designed to be romantically themed. Ryan wasn't sure what to do, so he went to the home of the kitsune twins who welcomed him and Tabitha to their community several months earlier for advice.

When Ryan got to the house, he discovered that only Charlene was around, her twin brother was currently spending time with one of his mates at the Azul Palace in Dolphin Bay. Ryan explained to Charlene that he and Tabitha wanted to breed, but preferred to do it somewhere special for their first time. He also told her that he was trying to get a room in Vixen Hill, but all the rooms at the good places were already taken.

Charlene took a few moments to think, remembering some of the places where her brother took her when they made love and got an idea. "Well, instead of going to Vixen Hill, have you considered going to the Laramie Range Resort instead?", Charlene asked Ryan. She had been to this resort with her twin brother before around Love Day and knew that it usually had rooms available. Ryan gave it a bit of thought. On one hand it seemed like an ideal place to go, it was remote and private with the scenery of the Laramie Mountains around the resort. On the other hand, with it being winter time, it would be cold up there...much colder than it was in Familia. The weather in the Laramie Mountains this time of year was similar to the weather the kitsune twins were used to back when they lived in Minnesota. It never got that cold back when Ryan and Tabitha lived in Lake City.

"I don't know about this Charlene. It sounds nice, but don't you think it's a bit cold up there this time of year?", Ryan answered a few moments later.

Charlene couldn't help giggling to Ryan's remark. "Not if you've got someone to share a bed or hot tub with!", Charlene playfully told Ryan afterwards. "The hot tubs at the resort were inside heated 'sun rooms' that connected to each room on the ground floor of the resort, meaning a couple could hop in the tub and stay warm while also looking at the sights of the Laramie Mountains and the forests around the resort. "Trust me, if you and Tabitha go there I'm sure you'll both like it", Charlene added, trying to convince Ryan to make his reservation there instead of trying for Vixen Hill.

Ryan thought about it a bit more and figured that this would probably be the best he could do on short notice. He had to choose somewhere that was relatively close to Familia, since he had to stay close to the base in case his unit was activated for some reason. If he had more time to plan ahead, he could've asked for some paid leave time, and taken Tabitha on a more fulfilling trip. However, he didn't have enough time to do this right now. "Well, I guess we could give it a try", Ryan soon commented after giving Charlene's suggestion more thought.

When Ryan made his decision, Charlene briefly went to the master bedroom, so she could pull out a flyer for the resort to give to Ryan. She presented it to him, which had the information he would need to make a reservation. "When you ask to book a room, make sure you get one on the lower level, that way you'll get a room with a hot tub in it", Charlene suggested as Ryan took the flyer and looked it over, noting the phone number listed on the front of it.

"Thank you, Charlene", Ryan commented soon afterward, appreciating the help of the kitsune vixen. He was about ready to head for home but wanted to ask something else first. "By the way, where is your brother anyway? I thought you two were mates", Ryan asked, finding it a bit odd that Charlene would be by herself.

Charlene giggled to Ryan's remark and then answered him. "We are mates...but that doesn't mean we're exclusively mated to each other. We're both married to other partners, which is another thing that we really like about living here on Kapernia, we're allowed to have more than one mate here", Charlene explained. "You see, our mother hasn't been too fond of my brother and I...ahem...bonding the way we do, but that hasn't stopped us from loving each other the way we want to. That's the reason why we started this community in the first place, to give couples like us a safe place where they can be happy and live their lives the way they want to", Charlene added.

Ryan embraced Charlene in his arms and nuzzled the vixen in a polite manner, purring gently to her. Charlene was polite and allowed Ryan to embrace her for a few moments before she looked down at her watch and noticed it was about 3 PM. "Anyway, I have to start getting dinner ready for Eddie and Ellie now. So, you can just hold onto that flyer I gave you for the time-being and give it back to us the next time you visit, OK?", Charlene commented as Ryan let go of the vixen and nodded. He didn't want to keep her from her maternal duties, so Ryan took the flyer and returned home to make the reservation at the resort. This time, Ryan found success in booking a room for him and Tabitha...and as an added bonus, the resort offered a "Love Day package" for a few extra dollars. It was a cloudy and cool day across northeastern Mason Island when Ryan and Tabitha made their trip from Familia to the Laramie Range Resort. Once inside, Ryan and Tabitha were finally able to take off some of their heavier winter clothing as he turned to his sister and had a comment to make. "Next year we're going to the Azul Palace in Dolphin Bay for Love Day. It's too damn cold up here!", Ryan told his sister as it seemed like he couldn't stand the cold up in the mountains.

Tabitha seemed to echo Ryan's feelings and had some suggestions of her own. "I don't blame you...besides, if we could find a nice patch of open beach there, you and I could...you know", Tabitha commented back before kissing Ryan on his cheek and taking his hand. "However, as long as we're here we should make the best of this. Attached to the room, on the other side of a sliding glass door was the sun room that Charlene mentioned, with a hot tub that was clean and ready to use. All it needed was some water to get it going. The sun room had heating in it, but because it was outside the main part of the room it felt a bit cooler there than inside the room. Although once they got the hot tub going it was bound to warm up.

"Just how many different forms do those two have anyway?", Tabitha commented as Ryan shrugged, having no clue himself. All he knew was that they inherited their ability to transform from their mother, since the Mason twins were their half-siblings and neither Mike nor Michelle had the ability to change their forms. However, when they were out of sight, Ryan and Tabitha put it out of mind and went back to having breakfast, filling their bellies with food before checking out of the resort and going home.
