Chapter Twenty-Four

"How many times do I have to go over this!?" pleaded Obsidian and he looked over at the police officers, a short stubby Vulnira detective who had obviously spent one too many years behind a desk and a large muscular Tauron who stood in the corner of the room.

He had been in the interview with the Crystal Lake Police Department for almost three hours while they asked his repeatedly about Janus's death. His long face looked drained as he scratched the slightly sticky fur on his arm from the humidity of the small interview room.

He was sure that was intentional, a way to make people confess.

However after a few more hours, he was sure that he would be ready to confess to anything. Just to get out of there.

"Look Horse!" snarled the Tauron, coming over from the corner of the room and getting right in the face of Obsidian. An attempt to intimidate? It was certainly working if that was the result.

"That's racist..." replied Obsidian with a meek chime.

The Tauron looked unamused by his statement, unsure if he was trying to be funny with him or not. "Is it now?" he said. "Well... I'll be sure to report myself then..." he scoffed.

"You used to racism then?" smirked the Vulnira officer sat at the desk in front of him. "Is that why you killed Janus? Wanted a chance to stick it to us Vulnira, for what happened to you horses?"

Obsidian wanted to react, he wanted to get enraged at the Police Officer's flippant comments about a massacre and any other situation and he would do. But not here. Not now and not while it was being filmed.

"Officers..." he said, looking back at them with an exhausted expression. "I've told you everything that I know"

There was a knock at the door, causing the Tauron officer to get the door. He spoke to somebody at the door outside for a few moments of silence before returning to the room.

"You are free to go..." he responded after a few seconds. Obsidian felt a massive sigh of relief, as if the load that he was bearing was suddenly lifted from him.

The other officer looked up in protest while the Tauron just shrugged.

"Well move then!" shouted the officer.

Obsidian was still unsure why he had been released when he walked out onto the open streets of Crystal Lake. Perhaps they had actually caught the real killer and Janus would finally have some justice.

He had, however, been charged with "breaking and entering", although as somebody had paid his bail, he was now free to go until it went to trial. His first action would be, to find a good public defender that could represent him in court.

He was sure however, that he could claim that he was an unwilling accomplice to Janice Truthtail, who had acted outside her jurisdiction to break into a Phoenix Grace office and claim that it was an official police operation.

There was still the question of who had paid his bail as he walked along the street. He did not know anyone that would have been capable of doing it.

He had only got a few steps down the street before a voice stopped him with a "Hey". He turned, his long hair-like tail, braided so it did not look so messy fluttering in the wind as he turned to look at the person that had called out to him.

"Carrus?" he replied, looking at the deer, smiling at him. "What are you doing here?"

The small Cervijord smiled at him from steps of the Police Station.

"I bailed you out..." he said, giving him a loving smile, the same one he had felt on that day. "I came here to give the police a statement and you an alibi. I know you didn't kill Janus."

Obsidian felt as if all his dreams had come true at once.

"Why?" he asked, looking down at the deer after walking up to him. His heart beating faster and harder in his chest.

"Because I love you. I don't want to be all alone in Crysfall anymore. I want to be with you." he said, with an honesty.

Gently, Obsidian reached for his hand, he was not sure if his feelings were actual love or just gratitude for helping him but either way. He did owe him.

"Thank... You..." he said, his voice trembling. "I care about you as well. Had time to think about a lot of things. But there is something that I must do first."
