#1 of Project: Eternity

Just a little snippet of something I'm working for Project: Eternity! See! I'm still working on it, I swear!

This is a little flashback scene that will find its way into the story proper at some point, look out for it! :)

It's also not entirely finished, so, yeah XD

"Focus fire, focus fire! Those heavies are advancing!"

A squad of Aeteri clutched their assorted weapons to their heaving, armoured chests, ranging from basic rifles to heat guns to a single launcher nearly out of ammo. Their leader, a young, brown-furred Major, looked among the remnants of her squad with disdain; many were bloodied and battered, and one was missing an arm entirely, though he still held a rifle in his one good hand and was taking pot-shots whenever he could. The air was filled with the sounds of war, of artillery and whizzing bullets like rain, and of the cries of fallen soldiers and civilians alike. It was cold, but that wasn't anything new; it was always cold on Kaara, but the wind chill on a day like today made the bloodbath all the more demoralising. The white snow around their position was already stained red with their blood, with the lifeforce of those dedicated to saving as many as they could before the end of their species.

"Feo, we can't hold this position! We're gunna be overwhelmed in a matter of minutes if we stay here, we need to fall back!"

Feo slid out of cover and let loose a beam of microwave energy towards the horde of steadily approaching metallic death machines. Her target shuddered as the beam hit it, causing its front plate to slowly start glowing, first a dull orange, then up to a glowing white, before the robot detonated with an impressive amount of force. With a satisfied smirk, she ducked back behind her cover and looked at the soldier who had talked to her, the one missing his arm.

"I know, Kanire... Crenzen, this is messed up... Soldiers! Fall back, defensive formation Ela. Granen, Alishoth, you take point. Viren, fire off that last rocket, then help Kanire get out of here. I'll stay back and give you as much fire support as I can."

Kanire, the black-furred soldier, glared at his commanding officer, "Feo, if you think for a second I'm going to let you do this, you've got another thing coming! I won't let you do this! If this is gunna be the end of our people, at least let me die beside my best friend!"

Feo returned the glare and held it for several seconds, before sighing, "Fine. In that case, Viren, chuck me the launcher, and you can take the heat gun instead. You're a better shot with it than I am, anyway."

In unison, they tossed their weapons to each other, both catching their respective armaments with relative ease, before Feo stepped back out of cover to aim the rocket. With a cacophonous roar, the rocket fired with a force that nearly knocked the Aeteri off her feet. It sailed true and hit the dead centre of the advancing mechanical platoon, before exploding in a shower of white phosphorus. Any robot that had survived the initial explosion was quickly destroyed by the ever-burning substance as it ate through their chassis.
