Prologue: Tragic Start

Deep in the forest village, there are some beasts living in their homes and living their normal lives, and some are still in fear from the incident that happened years ago. A few causalities happened, and among them was an interspecific couple: a wolf and a vampire bat had a child that’s a mix of their blood. That child is a vampire wolfbat hybrid who has both bat and wolf blood who’s been ridiculed his whole life. Many called him a cursed blooded mongrel due to him being born on the night of the blood moon. That hybrid is named Plasma von Lunarfang, and he’s been ridiculed by most of the residents at a very young age, but that dwindled ever since his parents were murdered by a corrupt guild member. The guild left after the hybrid killed their leader, as the latter requested the lives of his parents and since then, the guild never came back to the village ever again. That is until many years later, until now…

Somewhere in the woods, a wounded armored human limps towards the village clutching his bleeding side.

“I’m…almost…there…” The wounded human breathed as he limps towards the village with all his might.

In town, a bunch of nocturnal beasts are busy with their daily lives, not noticing a human until he spotted a single beast. The beast is the only hybrid living in the village that is born a vampiric wolfbat, and he’s now in his early adult years. The hybrid has a black wolfish body with a red underbelly with vampire fangs, bat ears, a purple nose, and red eyes, wearing a purple jacket with red insides and blue pants with brown boots and a brown belt with a red hourglass glass buckle, he's also wearing a purple scarf with blue tips on it.

“Hey! You’re one of the hunters, right?” Plasma asked the gravely wounded human.

“Y-Yes… I came…to find…you…” The human gasped out as takes a blood stained letter out. “For you… We need…your help…” The human finished.

Plasma takes the bloody letter and reads it.

Dear Young Halfling…

We are in dire need of assistance. Our top member, Lurkon, has gone rogue and has started attacking the town we kept so peaceful, and killed off our reasonable leader and usurped his role as leader of the Regal Hunters guild. He claims that all beasts in the world must be exterminated so that humans will be safe from harm. It’s a ridiculous goal he wants to fulfill for his own desires, and we tried our best to stop him, but some of the other members have been secretly supporting his goals and have started following Lurkon’s ideals… It’s a sad and unfortunate outcome that our fellow brothers and sisters have turned on us. We, the resistance, are being weeded out and exterminated by that monster’s men. We’re writing this letter hoping that you will help us end Lurkon’s tyranny once and for all and restore peace. We beg of you: for your late parents, whom we wrongfully executed during the attack on your village because of Lurkon, please help us. There isn’t much time until he strikes your home again.

_Sincerely yours-

Former Vice Leader of the Regal Hunters and Leader of the Resistance – Valmus_

Plasma stares at the letter with wide eyes from what he read.

“So, you’re from the resistance, huh?” Plasma asked the wounded human.

“Yes... Lurkon… That bastard murdered…his majesty, the vice leader’s brother, Reus.” The resistance member spat bitterly about the enemy. “Now…he hunts…those who…are resisting against…him… He knows…neither mercy…nor any remorse…” The human breathed out as he coughs up blood and keels over.

“Hey, hang on!” The vampire wolf said trying to help.

“It’s…too late…for me… Please… Save…this…world… Defeat…Lurkon…” The human breathed out his last and falls to the ground motionless as a blood puddle forms underneath him.

“Hey, y-you gotta pull through! C’mon!” The hybrid tried to rouse the soldier in vain but he was already gone.

Plasma stands up and looks at the dead soldier’s body and at the letter with anger as he bares his fangs and he stares at the dead human again.

“I promise you… Lurkon will get what he deserves.” The hybrid spoke bitterly as he crumples up the letter. “Lurkon. So, he’s the one who killed my folks… Alright. I guess I’ll be one who’ll put him in his place!” He stated as he prepares to leave the village.

“Hmm… So, you intend to get yourself killed, boy?” An elderly voice asked as the hybrid turned around to see his maternal grandfather. The bat is Vampyr Veilwing, the father of Plasma’s late mother, Twilona Lunarfang (her last name was formerly Veilwing). The old bat is pale grey with translucent white wings with a vampire bat appearance with a pink nose and cloudy grey eyes, wearing a sky blue robe that covers mostly his body except for his feet, which are worn by tan sandals.

“Grandpa… I-” The hybrid tried to speak but sees the bat held his claw out causing the wolfbat to stop.

“Save it, I know. There are times you can be troublesome, and there are times you can be helpful. But I don’t want to lose my dear grandchild to a vile human who claims that all beasts are evil.” Vampyr said to the hybrid.

“You know about the letter?” He asks his grandfather about the letter.

“Of course, I know! Hell, I may be blind, but my ears can hear you reading, even if you are whispering.” The old bat exclaimed, earning a snicker from a few villagers and from his grandson.

“Right…” The hybrid stopped laughing and quickly got serious. “But grandpa, I have to do this. With Lurkon running amok, he won’t stop until he kills all-” He stops as the bat put his paw up again.

“I’m aware of that, but first…” The old bat started as he reached into his robe and took out a sheathed blade. “I want you to take this machete and cut down the branches near the house.” The bat finished with a smirk.

“Not happening… Isn’t that one of my uncles’ jobs anyway?” The vampire wolf asked in a irritant tone.

“I’m afraid my so-called ‘sons’, your ‘uncles’ are experiencing their hangovers from some damn party they went to last night.” The old bat angrily stated as a vein mark appeared on his head. “I declare… If your mother were here, she’d set them straight…” He finished after handing the hybrid the tool.

“Mom was scary, and so was dad. But not gonna use-” The hybrid was cut off by a scream, and he turns to see some humans rushing into the village armed with swords as some animals ran away.

“Alright, men! Find the traitor that’s hiding in this place, and pillage to your hearts’ content!” The lead soldier urged his comrades.

“Yes sir!” The soldiers complied.

Before the humans could act, the hybrid grabs the machete, and walks up to the invader.

“You either leave or lose your life. Pick your fate.” Plasma boldly warned his enemies as he unsheathes his weapon.

“You little pest! You think you can stand up to us?!” The lead invader retorts. “Kill him!” He motioned to the soldiers.

The invaders charge at the hybrid who parries with a block from his machete, and cuts down his attacker by slashing at his chest killing him. The vampire wolfbat smirks at the human’s folly as another attacks him, but ends up meeting the same fate as his comrade as the hybrid quickly dispatches him.

“Y...You vile monster…!” The lead invader retorts one more time.

“Me? A ‘monster’? You ever considered what you’ve done to others? Or what your own vice leader did to my folks?!” The hybrid retorts about the guild’s massacre of the village before.

“So what… Die, you vile abomination!” The lead invader shouted as he lunges at the hybrid only to have his weapon knocked out of his hand, and stabbed through the chest. “D-Damn… Lurkon said...you beasts...weak...” The human breathes out until he goes limp.

“I may be born a halfling, but I happy to be what I am.” Plasma vehemently said to the dead human as he takes his bloody machete out of him.

“Not all humans are bad, my boy.” Vampyr replied.

“I’m aware, but I can’t stand how the guild would do this.” The hybrid replied. “I need to stop Lurkon and his group before they cause any more harm.” He finished as he goes to leave out the village.

“Hmm… Guess I won’t stop you, Plasma…” The old bat started stopping his grandson. “You can’t face them alone. You’ll need help to bring him down.” He finished.

“You’re right, grandpa.” The hybrid relents as he walks over to the first visitor, and kneels down to him.

“Go on into the house and get some rest. Me and the others will handle these humans.” The old reassured the hybrid.

“Thanks, grandpa.” Plasma said as he gets up to walk back to the house to rest up for an important journey tomorrow.

Vampyr grimaces, knowing that his wolfbat grandchild and his friends will face some hardships along their journey.

This is the prologue of my story. My first chapter is coming along after.

Arc 1: Revolution

Chapter 1: Setting Off

Inside a room, Plasma is getting dressed in his usual attire as the sky outside starts to lighten a bit. The vampire wolfbat hybrid is wearing his purple jacket with red insides and blue pants with a brown belt with a red hourglass glass buckle. He is also wearing a purple scarf with blue tips on it and a dark brown fedora, which originally was his father’s. He even equipped his machete onto his belt.

“All right, I’m set, and it’s time to head out.” Plasma said as he walks out of his room and down the stairs and towards the door until a voice stops him.

“And where are you off to in this hour, pup?” Vampyr, Plasma’s maternal grandfather, demanded holding a blueviolet duffle. “You forgot your provisions.” He finished as he hands his grandson the item full of supplies.

“Thanks.” Plasma thanked as he takes the duffle and hugs his grandfather before walking out of the house.

Outside, the wolfbat felt something move inside the bag and opens it to see a surprise guest. An albino weasel with red scleras and pink irises.

“Phantom! So, you wanna travel with me, little buddy?” He asked his albino weasel, who nods in excitement as his master closes the duffle.

The wolfbat walks towards the village entrance only to take a deep breath and walks into the woods. Inside the woods, the hybrid walks even deeper until he hears something nearby and takes out his machete and walks towards the source of the sound.

“AIIIIEEE!!! S-Stay back!” A terrified voice shouted.

Plasma reaches the source of the sound and sees a red fox cowering in fear as three individuals corner it.

“This fox will make a nice pelt dontcha agree?” The first bandit asked while brandishing his axe.

“Lemme get the first hit!” The second bandit demanded in a sadistic manner.

“I oughta have the first hit! I was the one who found it first!” The third bandit exclaim as he brandishes his dagger.

“Didn’t anyone ever told you idiots about ganging up on a helpless fox?” The hybrid inquired as he readies his machete.

“What the? Who da hell is this?!” The second demanded looking at the wolfbat.

“A rare beast, maybe?” The third one asked curious.

“His hide is mine!” The second one as he lunges at the hybrid.

But the wolfbat parries with a block from his machete and shakes his head in annoyance.

“Nice try, bozo.” Plasma said as he swiftly cuts through the bandit’s abdomen and the latter falls to the ground motionless.

“You damn...” The third brigand was cut off when the hybrid swift sliced through his chest as he falls to the ground lifeless.

“You’re next.” Plasma threatened the last human.

“What?! No one messes with the Daelvis gang!” The final exclaimed as he charges towards the hybrid.

Plasma swiftly cuts down the last bandit and the latter falls to the ground lifeless.

“These thugs have no class...” The wolfbat said as he turns his attention to the cowering fox. “Are you OK?” He asked the vulpine.

“Y-You’re not gonna hurt me?” The vulpine timidly asked.

“Absolutely not. You really have to be careful. Bandits have a tendency to attack anything and anyone in these woods.” The wolfbat answered as he sheathes his machete.

“Oh… They’re no worse than the Fangs...” The fox stated in low tone.

“The Fangs?” The wolfbat asked.

“They’re an evil group of strays that attacks other animals and humans. They’re terrible...” The fox explained in a sad tone.

“Hmm? I’m from a group of Fangs.” Plasma started, which made the vulpine’s eyes widen. “The Shift Fang clan; a branch clan of the Lunar Tribe.” He explained further.

“O-Oh… I’ve never heard of the Lunar Tribe.” The fox admitted.

“I see… I’ll explain about my heritage whenever I can.” The wolfbat replied before continuing. “My name is Plasma, Plasma Von Lunarfang.” He introduced himself.

“My name is Fable.” Fable introduced himself.

“Interesting name.” Plasma replied once more. “I’ll be seeing you around. Just try to stay away from those who might try to hurt you.” He said as he walks away from the vulpine.

“Wait! Where are you going?” Fable called out to him.

“I’m heading into the city to find a few friends of mine, and perhaps pay a visit to a certain human who wants kill every beast in the world.” The wolfbat explained.

“Um… Hold on!” The fox ran up to him. “I hope you don’t mind me coming with you because in truth, I got lost looking for my friends too...” He admitted with a blush.

“Need me as a bodyguard?” The hybrid joked as he walks deeper into the woods.

“N-No! Well, maybe...” The fox blushed.

“Relax; no harm will come to you, Fable. I look out for my friends.” The wolfbat reassured the vulpine.

“Wow. For a wolf, you’re really a great guy.” Fable said in an eager tone.

“Actually, I’m a wolfbat. Half vampire bat and half wolf.” Plasma explained.

“Oh, wow!” The fox said in amazement.

“Without further ado… We’re off.” The hybrid said as he continues walking.

“Where to again?” The fox asked once more.

“To the city where else? Now let’s go!” The hybrid replied once more and walks towards the wood’s exit, and the vulpine said nothing but follows the wolfbat.

Plasma found a new companion and I wonder how things will play out in the wolfbat’s journey?

I hope you like Fable’s introduction in the story! Fable belongs to Holidaypup.

Arc 1: Revolution

Chapter 2: Bigotry Issues

After their surprise encounter, Plasma and Fable soon left the woods, and entered into an open field where the sun has yet to rise. Both mammals look around their surroundings, and continue walking in the field. Fable took a few nervous glances at the hybrid and looks away in fear.

“I’m not gonna hurt you, Fable. Just relax.” Plasma reassured the vulpine.

“I-I’m sorry… It’s just… You remind me of some brutes I know.” Fable said crestfallen as his ears flatten.

“What brutes? Those thugs from earlier or the different kind?” The wolfbat inquired.

“You ever heard about a group called the Fangs?” The vulpine asked his question with his.

“There are many groups with the Fangs title. A little more specific, Fable?” The wolfbat replied.

“OK. A large pack of stray dogs that attack both people and other animals.” The fox answered sadly.

“Mmm… That I never heard about them...” The hybrid frowned at that information.

“Those are the Fangs… They’re vicious, cruel, sadistic, and downright monstrous. I was running to hide from them, but I was spotted by those humans you saved me from.” The fox explained some more.

“I see… So, where are the ‘Fangs’ dogs?” The wolfbat said as he stops in his tracks.

“Why do want… Oh no… Y-You’re not gonna fight them, are you?!” The vulpine asked in scared tone.

“They can’t keep terrorizing others for their own amusement! Someone’s gotta put them in their place!” The wolfbat growled but see the sad fox gets in front and places his paws on the hybrid’s torso.

“Don’t please! Others have died fighting those beasts!” Fable cried as tears starts to form in his eyes. “I-I don’t want to lose any more friends to them. Promise me you’ll stay away from them! PLEASE!!!” The fox demanded as tears fall freely from his eyes.

Plasma was taken aback what he heard from the fox and hates making promises but fails to keep them. The wolfbat sighs and lifts the fox into his arms, and smiles at him.

“Dude, I can’t promise you, but I’ll try to stay away from them. OK?” Plasma stated as he gets a lick on the cheek from the vulpine. “I’ll take that as a yes.” The wolfbat as he continues walking towards the city with the fox in his arms.

Later, the duo reached the city gates of Woodloria and the hybrid sets the fox down and see the town slowly waking a little.

“Here we are, Fable!” The wolf bat stated as they walk further into town and looks at the nervous fox. “What’s wrong, bud?” He asked his friend.

“I… I’m not good in towns...” Fable admitted to the wolfbat.

“Relax; urban life isn’t my type either.” The wolfbat reassured the fox. “But you’re gonna love seeing a few friends I have. Though they should be in town.” He said hoping he could find someone he knows before the city is fully awake.

A couple of minutes later, the duo look around town and is met with some nasty glares from some rough-looking bunch in town, which makes the fox really nervous. The wolfbat sees this and ducks inside the nearby bar to escape the glares for a moment.

“We should be safe here.” Plasma growled as he looks around before walking up towards the barkeep.

“So, what was that all about?” Fable asked the hybrid.

“Those thugs are from a notorious group belongin’ to Daelvis.” The barkeep answered the vulpine while cleaning the glass. “Got yerself in trouble with them, muttboy?” The human asked the hybrid.

“I hardly knew about the guy. Water, please.” The wolfbat admitted and asked for water.

“Sure thing.” The barkeep said as starts pouring water in the clean glass.

“So, have you seen-” The hybrid was cut off from an angry voice.

“And just what the hell are you doing serving an abomination like him?!” An angry voice demanded.

The barkeep glares at the three humans and some dogs walking up flanking the hybrid, who isn’t moving an inch.

“You all stop right there! I won’t have ya harassin’ my customers like ya usually do!” The human barked at the hostile men.

“You should be ashamed of yourself! We can tell this mutt is half and half.” The first man from earlier spoke.

“Yeah. What are you, mutt? Half turkey?” The second voice taunted.

Plasma ignores the men and continues talking with the barkeep.

“Anyway, you’ve seen a marsupial came in here?” The wolfbat starts.

“Oy! Don’t ignore us!” The second man said in frustration.

“Have you idiots ever heard of common sense? Now, kindly get out of my face, or we can take this outside. Your choice.” The wolfbat replied while holding back his rage, and the fox backs away from the men and their dogs.

“Hold on, lad. Ya don’t have ta-” The barkeep was cut off as he sets the water.

“Don’t worry about me… These ‘gentlemen’ have issues getting along with others because of their backgrounds. Why don’t we take this matter outside?” Plasma suggested as the large human grabs his neck.

“Sure thing.” The first thug replied as he snaps his fingers.

The large human tosses the hybrid out through the doors and into the street. Plasma stands up and dusts himself off and glares at the three thugs and their two dogs.

“You know, I’m all about being gentle and kind to others, but you five are just an exception. I’ll be more than happy to kick your sorry asses!” The hybrid snarked as he brandishes his claws.

“You think you can take us all on? Kill this trash!” The lead thug commanded as the large thug lunges at him.

Plasma quickly grabs the large thug and tosses him towards the brick wall of another building stunning the other four. The hybrid grins and sees the second thug brandish a knife then charges at the wolfbat. The latter dodges and grabs the thug’s arm then twists it to hear a sickening snap earning blood-curdling screen from the thug and kicks the latter to the curb while the leader watches on in shock.

“What are you two waiting for? Get ‘im!” The lead thug orders the hesitant canines in slight panic.

The dogs reluctantly attacks the hybrid and latter dodges one, but the other dog latches onto his arm, tearing into his jacket. Fable comes out of the tavern and sees the fighting taking place in the street, and further down beside the tavern, a vulpine hybrid comes from the alley to watch the wolfbat punch the dog in the gut and tosses him to the building wall, hearing some pained yelp. Plasma glares at the second dog, who decided to bolt with the tail tucked between his legs. The lead thug grimaces at this and notices the red fox and decides to take him hostage by grabbing and holding a knife at the latter’s throat.

“H-Hold it, you damn beast! Any more sudden moves, and I’ll kill this vermin!” The lead thug threatened, which makes the hybrid narrows his eyes at the cowardly tactic.

“Really now? Using a helpless fox to get what you want?” Plasma berated the thug.

“Sh-Shut up! You’re kind is an abomination!” The thug retorts.

“Which is an abomination: The hybrids or Lunar Tribe? I’m pretty sure I’m both.” The wolfbat asked, getting the thug off guard.

“Wh-What?! You’re one of those tribal monsters?!” The thug blurted out, aghast.

“Yes, and I take offense to that somewhat...” The hybrid said as walks up to the human.

"St-Stay back, or I’ll-" The thug is cut off by a growl and sees a grayish-brown dox leap at him and dug his fangs into the man’s wrist where he’s holding the knife.

The rogue lets go of Fable and the red fox fled to nearby alleyway and watches from the corner. The lead thug tries to pry off the angry dox, but Plasma sees his chance and rushes the rogue to slug him in the gut as the dox lets go to let the wolfbat gives him a well-timed kick to the face knocking him into the wall. The thug fell to the clutching his face where his nose is bloody and hears a blade being taken out and sees the wolfbat glaring daggers with his red eyes pointing his machete at him.

“Look… I’m gonna be very lenient with you, and let you off the hook this time!” Plasma started as his ears twitch when the large thug he beat earlier came charging at him, but the hybrid elbows the giant rogue in the gut and kicks him back without looking before starting again. “But if you so much as threaten one of my friends or some other members of my tribe, you can guarantee I will make your life cut short. Understand?” The hybrid venomously threatened the thug, who then nodded meekly. “Good. Now gather your crew, and get the hell outta my sight...” The hybrid finished as he sheathed his blade.

The lead thug gets up and bolts, leaving his knife behind, and soon the other rogues got up to flee after their leader. The hybrid looks and walks over to the red fox.

“Are you alright, Fable?” Plasma asked the fox.

“Y-Yes… Thanks for asking.” Fable replied.

“Good to hear then.” The wolfbat said.

“What was that all about?” The fox asked him.

“I did mention I was from the Lunar Tribe, right?” The hybrid started. “See… My kind are being persecuted for using powers of the blood moon.” He explained.

“Oh… I see...” Fable said sadly.

“You shouldn’t worry about it then… I’m being hated for being born half-and-half.” The dox replied.

“Bud, I feel you. It ain’t easy being a hybrid.” The wolfbat replied. “Like my tribal family, I have a somewhat aversion to normals.” He explained.

“To normals like purebreds?” The dox asked.

“Sometimes, yes, but the normals, as in those aren’t Lunar Tribe members; you know, moon users.” The hybrid replied while rubbing the back of his head.

“Me? I despise purebreds. Who enjoys being talked down to?” The dox replied.

“At least you weren’t called a parasite...” The wolfbat bitterly replied.

“I’m guessing you were also called ‘abomination’, ‘freak’ and ‘mongrel’?” The dox remarked.

“It’s been hitting me throughout the years. It hurts, but I just ignore them.” The wolfbat answered.

“Sounds like you also had a rough life...” Fable said sadly.

“Life is always rough.” Plasma stated.

“It is. So, your name, then?” The dox asked.

“It’s Plasma Von Lunarfang.” He introduced himself. “You?” The wolfbat asked.

“Duplex. My name is Duplex.” Duplex introduced himself before starting again. “Like you, I’m also a hybrid.” The dox replied.

“Amazing...” The wolfbat said as stares at the feral dox.

“We hybrids gotta stick together.” The dox chuckled.

“Is that right? Also, this is Fable. He’s a pure red fox.” The wolfbat introduced his friend.

“A fellow fox indeed. Greetings.” The dox nodded.

“Hold!” The barkeep shouted as came through the doors. “I’m glad you’re alright after those thugs ruffed you up.” He said to the hybrid.

“I’m fine. They won’t be bothering anyone anytime soon. Also, we’ll be on our way, and thanks for the water!” Plasma said as he left with both ferals following him.

The barkeep said but head back inside to continue serving his patrons.

“So, where are we heading?” Duplex asked the wolfbat and fox.

“I’m off to find the man who murdered my folks and stop his plan of wiping out every beast in the world.” Plasma answered simply.

“A man? A human killed your parents?” Fable asked him.

“Well, yeah… Revenge is far from my mind. Actually, it’s somewhat a part of it, but I wanna help the world and I can’t do it alone without my friends.” The wolfbat explained.

“I hope we don’t run into the Fangs along the way...” Fable said nervously as that got the dox growling slightly.

“If it comes to that Fable, we won’t have a choice but fight ‘em if we can’t elude them.” Duplex stated.

“Don’t worry, I’ll keep you guys safe.” Plasma reassured the vulpines with a smile, and both of them smiled back as they walked down the sidewalk.

In another part of the city, an individual is standing in the middle of a bloody alleyway staring down at the deceased corpses of 6 dogs. The individual is a german shepwolf with red eyes wearing a pine green fedora, green trench coat, black pants, and brown boots holding his blood-coated swords looking at the dog he cut down still breathing. He walks and pins the canine’s tail with his boot.

“Y-You… Y-Y-You...m-monster…! You th-think you can g-get away w-with a-attacking the F-Fangs?!” The dog retorted in fear.

“Your kind don’t scare me… But...” The shepwolf pointed his blade. “I’m afraid your senseless actions will cease right now.” He finished as he prepares to deal the finishing blow.

“N-No… Wait!” The dog pleaded, but the hybrid delivers the killing slice towards the mutt as his body goes limp as his life is snuffed out.

“I will not tolerate injustice… Though… I detect a familiar trace. Is it one of my Lunar Tribe brethren? Who’s to say?” The german shepwolf inquired as he leaves the bloody alleyway to locate the source of the energy he detected.

Plasma and Fable has a new recruit to their group who’s a dox named Duplex. As the trio goes on their adventure, another hybrid is also in town who took on some members of the Fangs. Is he a friend or foe?

Arc 1: Revolution

Chapter 3: Regal Disaster

Plasma, Fable and Duplex are walking down the sidewalk until the canids heard an old voice calling out to them.

“Hey, hold it!" An old voice called out, which got the trio's attention, and they saw an old vampire bat heading towards them.

“Oh, grandpa!" Plasma called out.

“Grandpa?" The dox replied in bewilderment.

“I did mention that I'm part vampire bat." The hybrid explained.

“There you are! Good thing I managed to track you scent-wise despite my blindness." Vampyr stated.

“I can see that, but what are you doing here, gramps?" The hybrid questioned the blind bat.

“You forgot something that your sire left you." The old bat said as he lifts his arm holding out a purple octagonal object with a red hourglass symbol along with chains attached towards his grandson. “Malcolm entrusted this to you." He finished.

“Dad's locket! I forgot about it… Thanks, grandpa." The wolfbat said as he takes the locket from the old bat's claws.

“So, who are your new friends?" The old bat asked, noticing the vulpines.

“These two are Fable and Duplex. They're foxes. One of them is pure and other is half." The wolfbat explained.

“Greeting, sir." Fable nervously greeted the bat.

“It's true. I'm a dox that's part sato and part red fox." Duplex explained.

“Interesting." The old bat started. _I'm glad my grandpup is making more intriguing friends. He'll need more help on his journey., _Vampyr said while lost in his thoughts.

“Grandpa?" Plasma said, snapping the chiropteran out of his thoughts.

“Hmm? Ah…" The old mammal starts. “Just be careful, Plazm. I hate to lose another male in my family." Vampyr finishes as he begins to walk away but trips a bit on the curb.

“Grandpa, are you OK?" The hybrid asked worried about his grandfather.

“Oh. I'm fine! This old bat is- urp!" Vampyr yelps as he stumbles into a mailbox but kept on walking. “I'll just rely on hearing and smell! I'll be fine!" He yelled out as he quickly avoids an oncoming car, which swerves but kept going.

“I declare… My grandpa's gonna be the death of me." Plasma said as he facepalms in disbelief.

“Your grandpa's a really nice guy." Fable commented.

“Thanks, but he can be a handful at times." The hybrid replied.

“Must be nice to have family like that." The dox joked.

“Hey, be nice! The old bat is sight impaired!" The red fox rebuked.

“Just because I'm blind and old doesn't mean I'm helpless!" Vampyr shouted from a distance as he continues walking.

“He heard us?!" Fable asked in disbelief.

“Bats have greater hearing than most canines." Plasma explained.

“So, you're not adopted?" Fable asked.

“Nope. I'm really biologically related to the old bat. That was my maternal grandfather." The wolfbat hybrid said as he walks down the sidewalk. “My mother was a beautiful vampire bat and dad was a rough tribal wolf." He explained sadly.

“They sound like a nice pair of folks." The dox commented.

“They were, but now they're dead thanks to a certain human…" The wolfbat growled.

“Oh, sorry… I didn't mean to bring up that matter." Dupe apologized.

“It's fine. Though my old sire would love to see another canid to treat as his son." The wolfbat joked.

“I'm sure, but humans… I hate them when they judge." The dox growled bitterly.

“I never had much contact with humans…" Fable admitted.

“This one human just wants to-" Plasma was cut off, seeing a violent act in the street.

“You were supposed to pay the fines for walking!" The knight berated the civilian.

“You bastards are corrupting the laws! Lurkon is nothing but a sad, excuse of a man." The civvie retorts at the knight.

“You dare insult the great and wise Lurkon?! Kill this wretch!" The lead knight ordered.

The corrupt knight is about to land a killing blow until a dark wave of energy hits the soldier, saving the human.

“It's not nice to attack unarmed civilians, you know!" Plasma said as he walks up while holding his machete out. “Leave this to us, please." The wolfbat told the human.

“Ah, right." The civvie got up and fled the scene as fast as he could.

“Who the hell are you?" The lead knight demanded.

“I should ask the same for you so-called members of the Regal Hunters guild." The wolfbat spat at them.

“Actually, it's 'Beast' Hunters now. We're no longer that worthless guild anymore." The lead knight explained.

“Oh, is it because I slew one of your own? My dad was seriously injured because of your commander's actions, and both my parents were murdered because of him!" The wolfbat retorts loudly at the humans.

“The human you killed was Lurkon's father-" The corrupt knight was cut off from another civvie.

“You mean, Stelton? That man was the greatest human who cared for anyone; but his son? Hah! He was never the man his father was!" The civilian laugh about the guild's 'leader' and turns to the hybrid. “Did you really kill him for vengeance?" He asked.

“I didn't. He actually used me as an example for Lurkon for his arrogance, so…" The hybrid truthfully explained as he thinks back.

=Flashback=

In the burning village of Veilvine, a young Plasma is standing his ground as he knocks Lurkon away from deceased parents while he’s injured as well. Lurkon is about to attack but gets thrown backwards from another individual who is Stelton, his father.

“You truly are a helpless fool, Lurkon…” The older human spat at a younger Lurkon and turns to the young Plasma. “Boy, no, Plasma… I am sorry for my son’s actions… Here...take this and take my life as compensation for parents.” Stelton ordered the halfing who hesitates.

“But…” Young Plasma started but got cut off.

“Life for a life. That’s better than any alternative apology, yes?” Stelton inquired.

“I...understand…” The young wolfbat said as he takes the human’s sword.

“What?! No!” Lurkon said as he gets held back by other guild members.

“Lurkon… This is the price for your arrogance and misdemeanor. Remember this well.” Stelton rebuked his son as he kneels to accept his fate.

Plasma gripped the blade tightly and plunges the weapon deep into the human’s chest and into his heart killing him instantly. Lurkon can only watch in horror as his father is killed.

=Reality=

“In short, Lurkon disgraced his father, and I was asked by Stelton to perform a mercy kill.” Plasma explained further as he points his blade at the soldier. “I heard that the Regal Hunters were supposed to be a guild that protects humans. Not shake them down for money like crooks.” The wolfbat rebukes them.

“So, Lurkon was right… His father was a weak man, unfit to be the next leader of the guild. ‘Peace and goodness for others’, my foot.” The lead knight laughs. “Tear this wretch apart!” He ordered as both soldiers on his side attacks the hybrid.

Plasma quickly disarms the soldiers by knocking the weapons out of their hands and kicks them both in the head knocking them unconscious.

“Arrgh! Useless lot!” The soldier berated his men.

“They tried, but now, what’s your plan?” The wolfbat asked as the knight decides to flee the scene.

“Hey! Hold it!” Duplex called out as he gave chase.

“Wait!” Fable said as he chases after the dox.

“My condolences to your folks.” The human started. “But you shouldn’t have pick a fight with those brutes since they’ve occupied this city.” He finished.

“What do you mean?” Plasma asked the man.

“Those monsters took over the mansion and has the magistrate held hostage. I hope they didn’t kill him…” He said in a worried tone.

Plasma nods as he hurried towards his friends, chasing the corrupt guild member. He finally caught up and sees the humans corner the duo. Seeing them in trouble, the hybrid unsheathes his machete and walks up to the armed humans.

“Step away from the vulpines unless you want to lose a limb!” Plasma threatened the soldiers as he nears them.

“The hell?” One of the soldiers turned and spotted the wolfbat. “Another beast?!” He said as he recklessly charges only to be swiftly cut down by the wolfbat.

“Who’s next?” Plasma dared as more of the soldiers turn towards him.

“Hold it!” A voice called out, which got the attention of everyone. A pompous looking man is glaring at them. “No need for more bloodshed unless you want the life of this fool to end.” The smug man said, motioning to the soldier behind him holding a blindfolded hostage at knife point.

“Bastard…” The wolfbat cursed as he took off his satchel and tosses it into an alley, then take off the scabbard and sheathes the machete only to toss it to the ground.

“Surrendering like a good beast. I like that.” The smug human gloated.

“Hmph! A sadistic idiot like yourself is nothing more than a coward. I wonder why Lurkon kept you, to be his useless tool?” The wolfbat retorts.

“How dare you! I, Feldas, am a high ranking member of the Beast Hunters!” Feldas stated proudly.

“I bet bitchiness is your rank.” Duplex snarked at the human, which got the fellow hybrid laughing and a few soldiers too.

This got the human growling in anger as he pops a vein. Soon, he starts stomping in anger at the dox’s remark.

“ENOUGH!!!” Feldas shouted, which silences everyone. “I worked hard to get what I want and I will have respect!” He retorted as he snaps his fingers.

On command the guards apprehend Plasma while Fable bites the one of the soldier’s leg and fled into an alleyway. The bitten guild member tries to give chase but Dupe blocks him.

“Sir, one of those beasts escape!” The soldier cried out.

“Forget it. We’ll, deal with that vermin later. Bring those mutts inside!” Feldas ordered as the soldiers apprehend both Plasma and Duplex and escort them into the structure.

Fable peeks out of the side of the alleyway to see both chimeras being led into the building. The fox fidgets and whines about unable to help his friends. The satchel moves and opens to reveal an albino weasel, Phantom peeking out of the item.

“Oh, hey there!” Fable greeted the weasel.

Phantom looks around for his master but stares at the fox and leaves the alley to see his master’s machete on the ground and goes to pick it up and drag it into the alleyway.

“Oh… You’re looking for Plasma? Sorry, but he was captured along with Dupe.” Fable explained to the weasel.

Phantom droops his ear a bit after hearing the bad news and scurries to a nearby window to find that it’s open a crack. The weasel drags the machete and satchel to a window to see that it’s open, and squeezes through.

“Hey! What about me?!” Fable said as he sees the weasel open the window a bit more, slightly enough for the fox to slip in with him. “Thanks! Now let’s go save them!” The fox said with determination as they searched for the hybrids.

Plasma and Dupe have been captured by the Regal Hunters now known as the Beast Hunters. What will happen to them? Will Fable and Phantom be able to save them?
