A Most Dangerous Game (2/10)
#2 of A Most Dangerous Game
A group of criminals finds a means to potentially hijack the sensitive data of one of the most popular games in the world, but requires another team working inside the game in order to pull it off. can these two teams come together and get what they want, or will this spell disaster for one or both of them?
This was an interesting little experiment where I took a fantasy setting and a sci-fi setting and sort of blended them together so that it was sort of like two stories being told at the same time with alternating chapters. Enjoy! Characters belong to their respective owners, will get a list when it's not 4am.

In the Kingdom of Iternia there was no finer city than that of the Capital, the main hub for all commerce and traffic throughout the land. It was in the heart of the kingdom right in the middle of it all and where most players began their quest, especially since the castle was the spawn point for most new players. Some had additional content where they could set up a home in another area, but for the most part all the players would find themselves in this city first so that they could go through the tutorials and ask more experienced players what to do. Some people came in as solos, wanting nothing more than to play the game by themselves, while others formed factions and guilds in order to try and be the top dogs in the capital city.
Most of the city was divided into sections; right near the castle exit was the place where the newbies tended to gather along with shops ready to help or take advantage of them. Once a player got a little experience under their belt they could go to what was considered the main area of the city where they could look at joining a guild, get item recommendations, and find others to quest with them on the particularly difficult areas. Then there was the hardcore area, the place where only the most experienced went in order to talk to people that were at a similar level. Sometimes they would fight one another to see who the best was, other times they would just talk over their latest exploits over a simulated drink in a tavern.
The Basilisk's Fang was one such tavern; it was filled to the brim with character avatars talking, plotting and otherwise having a good time between adventures. For Magus it was like his home away from home, a place where he could go in order to fully immersive himself in the game he had come to love. He didn't know how many hours he had sank just in there to socialize or play bar games. Many of the friends he had made had come from the time he had sat there.
It wasn't unusual to have groups plot in one of the private rooms before going out to do some epic play through of one of the modules, but for the five contained in one of them that wasn't quite what they were scheming. "So what you're saying is that we need to find the people on this list," the demonic alligator reiterated as he sat back in his chair. "And then, what, make friends with them or something?"
"Of a sort," Ailsa replied, the herm stingray replying with a smirk. "All we have to do is what comes naturally, play the game and see if we can get any information on the marks that Mei wants. If we can help them pull this off than not only do we get a sizable cut of the profits that come from it but also have access to things that haven't even been conceptualized in the game yet."
Everyone looked at one another as they mulled over the mission they had just been given, knowing that out there in the real world there was a group that was waiting for their response. It was hard to imagine, especially when immersed completely in DREAM like they were while the pods that their real bodies slept in translated everything they saw, heard, touched, and even tasted to their brains to make it feel real. The only thing that the pods didn't allow were pain, so even if cleaved in half by a rogue minotaur ax or impaled on spikes all they would feel is their bodies going numb before respawning in the castle. All in all it was an artificially generated reality completely separate from their real lives... yet they were now bringing the real world into the game they all loved.
"Man, this plan really makes me nervous, " one of their group said, everyone turning their heads to look at their eldritch warrior as the bat, who also was part plant creature after one particularly eventful raid, scratched his muzzle. "Are we sure that we want to stick our necks out in order to help people that we don't even really know that well? I mean, I know it's for a lot of money, but these are the developers we're talking about... if they catch wind of this then getting banned from the game is the least of our problems."
"Well you interacted with them Ailsa," one of two white-scaled dragons said, playing with his long brown hair while he spoke. "Did they seem trustworthy? Like someone who's going to hand over half a fortune to those who help them out?"
"Everything about them seemed professional Havok," the stringray said after shi had taken a drink from hir pint. "At least as professional you can get in this kind of work. Plus they already got the Symsuits so at the very least we know that they're committed to this, spent a lot of money to provide themselves with a way in once we feed them intel from our end."
"Speaking of committed," Magus replied, taking his finished tankard and letting it hit the wood with a heavy thud. "We already said that we're going to do this, so there's really no pulling out at this point. If anyone had a problem with this they should of spoke up when it was pitched to us, because now we're going to get this done no matter what."
Though the speech did little to ease their anxiety about tangling with those that made the game the group knew that their party leader was right, they had committed to the job and it was their duty to see it through... especially for the amount of money promised. "Hey guys!" the other white dragon, this one with glowing blue lines and hexagons on his skin that were partially covered by a white robe. "A few of the potential targets just logged into the lobby for the Heart of Crystal quest raid!"
"You sure Vyrnen?" Magus asked, the white mage nodding and showing him the log in data. "Well well, aren't they kinky, this might be more fun than we thought. Alright guys, let's get over to the lobby before it gets full, we have some information to get."
************************************
An hour later the group arrived just as the lobby for the run was about to fill up completely, their group and one more being the last ones in before the portal closed behind them. There were about twenty people in the module and among them was the two developers that were their targets. It appeared that they weren't even really playing with each other, which made sense since this mission could be done as a solo and was often done as such. The Heart of Crystal quest raid was one of the DREAM game's more... adult quests, which meant that you needed a verified account and an age-key just to get in.
"So how are we going to play this?" Havok asked as they got into a private chat with one another, which meant that no one could listen in on their conversation. "I doubt that we can strike up a casual conversation with them and ask how to get the data key, that might raise some red flags."
"It can if it's pillow talk," Alisa suggested with a grin. "This is an adult module, all we have to do is get in an adult situation with them."
"Easier said than done," Vosh replied as the others chuckled slightly. "If these really are heavy users then they're not just going to take a break from the adventure in order to talk to some random stranger, even if we did just get finished with a sex scene or something they're probably going to dive right back in to keep playing the module."
The alligator continued to think for a few moments, pulling up a data screen on the particulars of this mission and what it entails for victory or defeat conditions. "Wait a second," Magus said, holding up his hands so that everyone else stopped talking. "This mission has corruption in it right? Which means that if a player character becomes too corrupted they essentially have the option to switch sides and control a monster for a while before they have to start over, right?"
"Oh yeah, I remember that mechanic," Havok stated. "They used to have it that you could be one until you wanted to leave but the mission became so overpopulated after that one squad of twelve deliberately corrupted one another that no one could actually finish the mission. Now it times you out after everyone in the area is either turned or killed."
"Ohhhh... I think I see what you're going for," Havok said as his grin widened, the others looking at him in question save for Magus who nodded his head. "Since these guys are such heavy users they probably have a hard time distinguishing the game world from reality and part of the corruption mechanic is if you corrupt someone as a player you get to give orders to them that they have to follow. Normally it's for NPC's but if you manage to do it to a player character it might have the same effect."
"Exactly," Magus replied. "As long as one of us remains uncorrupted the game will not reset, so all we have to do is play along with one of them, earn some trust points, and then when the time is right we spring the trap on them. It would be preferred if we can get more than one corrupted at the same time, from what I remember hearing about this module it's hard to discern targets if corrupted and we don't want these guys to run."
"Sounds like a plan to me," Alisa stated as the others nodded in agreement. "Only question is which one are we going to follow into the breach?"
"Let's try and get both of them onto our friends list," Magus replied, winking at the stringray. "I think that's something that our bard can handle, right?"
After a bit more discussion on how they were going to proceed they broke their private message circle and began to make their way towards the two targets. There were still a few minutes left as other areas of the server continued to populate, this quest being far reaching in scope it had multiple places that you could start depending on the character's style of play. It was part of the reason why the group was confident in the plan as the area they were in since it was heavier into the role-playing aspects then just a straight up grind to get the loot. When they approached the two developers they saw that they were not displaying themselves as admin, which was also helpful in that they wouldn't think the group was coming up to try and buddy them for free loot or other in-game advantages.
Once they initiated contact by trying to be as nonchalant in their greeting as possible Alisa took the lead and introduced their team, the two they talked to doing the same in order to be polite. The two gave them their in-game names, as was customary in such things, and the others responded in kind. Now that they were directly interacting with the two they could see what their characters were, one of them playing a female dark elf wizard named Zemira while the other was a half-orc barbarian simply named Brute. They struck up a bit of small-talk and thanks to the data miner Mei had put on their profiles they were both surprised at the amount they shared in common.
As the group continued to talk they heard the two minute warning go off that the module was about to begin, which meant that the map would soon be open for them to explore. When they asked the two where they were going the drow stated that they were splitting up, hoping to get all the needed materials separately to make that stage go faster. She was heading towards the demon-plagued forest where her spells would be more effective while the half-orc was heading down into the mines where he can bottleneck potential hordes with his deadly dual-wielding axes. When they asked the group where they were heading the five made subtle gestures of who they wanted to go after first. Eventually the group seemed to be split on a decision of where they wanted and the stingray decided to run with it, telling the two that they were also splitting their group and heading in similar directions.
The two nodded and said that they were free to come along, especially since more people in the particular area meant stronger bosses and trap spawns but also better loot. Once they solidified their plans the five quickly split into where they wanted to go, Vosh and Alisa going with Zemira to provide some heavy lifting to compliment her spells while Vyrnen, Magus, and Havok decided to go with Brute. It appeared that there wasn't going to be many that were taking those routes as well, which made sense given the relative difficulty of the two modules they were about to undertake compared to the surrounding ones. That was just fine for them, as the protective field went down around the stage and everyone ran off into different directions the five players were involved in an entirely different kind of game.
**********************************
The ruined mines were designed mostly with the idea of a traditional subterranean dungeon crawl; essentially one had to go in, fight the bad guys in each room, and then collect the subsequent loot. There were also a number of puzzles though and the details in the construction of the labyrinthine tunnels showed that someone who worked on this game put a lot of care and effort into it. The four slowly made their way past the entrance and equipped their torches, the light guiding them as they made their way further down into ruins.
"Perhaps we should consider having the rogue go first," Magus suggested as Brute began to charge his way forward, the demonic alligator putting a hand on the barbarian's shoulder to stop him. "I'm sure that something like this would have a number of traps on it and we wouldn't want you stumbling into anything that turns our best fighter in the group into some corrupted berserker for the other side. Of course I wouldn't mind having to... rein you in as it were."
With this being an adult mod Magus had decided to test the waters and see just how much of this was playing a game and how much it was Brute getting his rocks off. "Ha, you wish that you'd be on top," the half-orc replied playfully, giving him a good signal that this guy knew what he was getting into. "You may be the leader of your group Magus, but that doesn't mean that I'm going to listen to you... but if your rogue wants to go first then that is fine by me."
Magus nodded to Havok and he took the lead, carefully scanning the area for potential traps and pitfalls that might be in the way of their progress. While it would have been easy for them to just let the barbarian stumble forward and hope that he got caught in something that transformed him that would be counterproductive to their plans, not only did this build trust in Brute of their abilities but they needed at least one of them had to be changed first for their plan to work. Also it gave him and Vyrnen more time to talk to the half-orc and see what they could get out of him before that happened. Though he tended to remain in character, more than once while they waited for Havok to disarm something they managed to find out that Brute was a low-level network administrator for Frost Arc.
"So you're basically like a super admin of this game," Vyrnen stated, the half-orc nodding as they watched the wingless dragon squeeze his way behind a wall where an arrow trap had been set up. "Why hide it though and make yourself out to look like a regular player?"
"Don't want the attention," Brute replied simply with a shrug of his shoulders. "I have an admin account but I would always have people coming up and asking if they could play with me so they could get special privileges or something like that. I'll bust it out when I need to solve a conflict or ban someone, but unless that happens Ranthari the Reaper stays right where I put him."
The other two nodded and as they continued to engage in small talk Havok suddenly pulled himself out from the wall holding two bottles in his hands. "The trap is disabled and I managed to find a chest back there as well," he said as he showed the bright blue and a deep red swirling potion. "Vyrnen, you have potion identification, right?"
Vyrnen nodded and held his hand over the two bottles, his fingers and eyes glowing slightly as he channeled the magic of his patron to identify the liquids contained within. "The blue one is your typical healing potion while the other one is arcane might," the dragon informed them. "I figure since Magus is our resident Sorcerer he could have the magic booster and then Brute and Havok can decide on the healing.
"Well since you have a deity mage on your team I wouldn't mind the healing potion," Brute replied, the thief nodding and handing it to him. "Alright, since the door is now clear let's keep going. I don't want my partner to beat me to the meeting point!"
The others nodded and went through to the next room module, but as Brute and Havok went through the door Vyrnen stopped Magus from doing the same. "That's not a potion of arcane might," Vyrnen quickly stated. "It's a major cursed potion of demonic corruption. I'm not sure exactly what it does but given the save I had to beat in order to figure it out it's going to be pretty powerful, so be careful when you use it."
Magus nodded and looked down at the glowing potion, which to him looked rather innocuous. Unfortunately even knowing what kind of potion it was didn't help with the timing of such things, some corruption curses were a slow burn while others were quick to transform. If he didn't do it at the right time than the others would have to fight him to maintain their cover or Brute would just wander off by himself. He decided to save it for the time being and walked into the next room where the group was fighting a bunch of undead skeletons with crystals growing out of their bones.
The sorcerer alligator readied an area of effect spell, but between Vyrnen's ability to destroy undead with his power and the barbarian hacking and slashing they made quick work of all the monsters in the room. Brute commented that with the appearance of corruption crystals they were likely getting close to the fragment they needed in order to get to the final boss battle. That news was disconcerting for the three that were following him as they realized that as soon as they reached the stage with the fragment he was going to immediately move to the next session. But they also couldn't just lose intentionally either, which made it difficult since they were all overpowered for this challenge level and were easily slicing through enemies that stood before them.
After blasting their way through a number of zombies in a larger cavern where more of the corruption crystals had begun to grow on the wall Magus rubbed a finger against the potion he had been saving. Even though he would have to go it alone he could probably take down the barbarian... but the problem was that this game affected your mind to act in the way such a creature would. Could he control himself enough and still get his target, or would he just end up going after anyone he could find? It was a lot of risk on a thirty-three percent chance of hitting his target but at this rate he may not have a choice...
Meanwhile Havok, Brute, and Vyrnen were looking through a partially submerged section of the cavern when the rogue's secret senses began to tingle. "I think there might be something hidden down here," he said as he looked into the water. "Water looks clear enough, right?"
"I can certainly check for you," the white mage replied, glancing over at the half-orc before using his magic on the water. "Well I didn't pick up anything so you should be good to go." The dragon replied, trying not to sound disappointed that it may have been a way to corrupt them both at the same time. "I just wouldn't drink it probably."
That caused the other two to chuckle and Havok sloshed his way into the pool. It was a cool and refreshing feeling and as he got to the level where it was waist high he caught a secret passage that was completely submerged. He told the others where he would be going and dived down, swimming through the small tunnel and coming up into a tiny cavern with a rather large chest on a ledge. The rogue's eyes lit up, knowing it was a chance for him to get some primo loot himself without the others knowing about it as he scanned for traps.
He did find one trap on the lock and though he knew he had to be wary of corruptive effects this one was merely damage related and he disabled it with ease. "Please be a new cloak..." he whispered to himself as he picked the lock with his masterwork thieves tools. "It's been ages since we had a decent cloak drop."
Once he heard the click the wingless dragon knelt down and opened the chest, looking down inside with his breath held in expectation of what it contained. That happiness on his face quickly fell when he saw nothing but darkness inside, then turned to horror when he realized what he had just unleashed. "Oh shi-" was all he managed to utter before a thick black tentacle darted up from the lining of the chest like a snake and completely enveloped his muzzle, feeling something immediately gagging his maw and starting to stretch into his throat.
There was no way the thief could have detected a mimic, especially a corrupted mimic as shards of crystal began to emerge from the lining of the chest. Almost immediately his gamer instincts kicked in and he attempted to escape, only to find his hands attached to the lid of the chest by the sticky rubber as more tentacles began to slither their way out. As Havok struggled he could see two smaller crystals being pulled up to his face as the rubber began to cover his head. The shiny ooze continued to spread and eventually covered his eyes, leaving him thrashing about in the darkness before he could suddenly see once more.
"Embrace us..." a low voice hissed as the corruption crystals settled in front of his gaze, causing everything he looked at to swirl with a multitude of hues while two smaller tendrils pushed their way into his ears and nostrils. "You are us, you are a corruptor, you will spread to the others..."
Havok let out a low grunt as the words continued to repeat in his head, the game adjusting him to his new role as a bigger tentacle came out and slid around his waist. As he was lifted into the air his thoughts became fuzzy, the powerful hypnosis corrupting his already vulnerable mind while his already low willpower score was drained away from him. His body started to relax and go limp as two more tentacles slithered into his pants, one of them coiling around his cock and the other sliding between his legs to push up against his tailhole. Even though Havok could only focus on the scintillating patterns ensnaring his psyche he knew when he was being penetrated, his back arching up backwards as his half-hard member started to get stroked.
Soon the dragon was completely limp in the grasp of the increasing number of tentacles holding him, his hands being let go from the lid only to be wrapped behind his back as more coiled around and bound his legs together. More of the rubber ooze covered his body like his completely enveloped head, which at this point looked more like a hood or gas mask with two tentacles connected to his muzzle. A few seconds later the restrained adventurer was lowered down into the chest and more goo flooded over him before the chest snapped shut. Soon it was quite again in the cavern, save for the occasional gurgle that came from inside the slightly dripping chest.
Meanwhile Magus had rejoined with Vyrnen and Brute to see what their status was, being informed that they were just waiting for Havok to check out something. The sorcerer could see that the half-orc was getting antsy to continue on and he instructed their cleric to try and go in to see what was up. The dragon nodded and waded in while Magus went over to try and stall for more time, as well as be close as he attempted to put his plan to fruition. Most corruption targets were proximity based, which meant if he could just be close enough when he drank it he might go after the barbarian right away.
Just as the sorcerer was about to bring out the potion there was a loud splash that caused them both to turn their heads just in time to see their cleric get pulled under the water. Vyrnen had been looking around for the passage that the rogue had found when something had wrapped around his ankle and before he knew it several tentacles had wrapped their way around his body. With his magic he could instantly feel corruption at work on him as what he thought was another rubber tentacle slid into his mouth, only to turn and see the masked face of the other dragon that shoved his rubber tongue into his maw. It was then Vyrnen realized his mistake when he gazed into the lensed eyes of the other creature, feeling his body begin to slacken as a familiar voice began to whisper into his ear while the latex tongue spread the rubber inside his muzzle and throat...
"Looks like your team might be in trouble," Brute said as he got up and drew his axes. "As much I dislike being two down, if the corruption got them then we'd be better off abandoning them and moving on. Fragment can't be more than one or two rooms away."
"Wait," Magus replied as he pulled out the potion. "If we can save the cleric he has cleanse corruption, just stand guard and let me give my abilities a boost here."
Though the half-orc didn't seem sure he still nodded and moved to the edge of the pool, watching out as the alligator drank down the contents of the vial. Once he had finished the cursed potion all he could do was hope it was quick, and though he didn't feel much at first as soon as the two rubber dragon heads popped out of the water he felt his pupils dilate and his breath quicken. He tried not to grunt as his teeth grew longer and his snout widened, bending forward slightly as his entire frame began to thicken with even more muscle. His scales began bigger and jagged before growing shiny, adopting the same latex luster as the others in the lake as he felt the corruption swell inside him.
"You going to strike or what?" Brute said as the two corrupted creatures continued to drift towards the shore, the former rogue pushing his rubber cock into the hole of the partially rubberized male beneath him. The thief had gained some significant muscle mass and even a pair of wings, as well as some more lewd straps and other bondage gear that was transferring onto the transforming dragon he was rutting. "Mage, do your thing now or we'll lose the cleric!"
When Magus didn't respond again the half-orc turned around to see a truly demonic sight, the corrupted alligator towering above him with a smirk on his fanged muzzle as he looked down at him with blood red eyes. When the barbarian tried to run he suddenly found every muscle in his body frozen, unable to move as he fell under a hold person spell that kept him in place. "Don't worry..." Magus uttered in an otherworldly voice as his ridged rubberized cock pointed straight at the half-orc's mouth. "I intend to do my thing right now..."
Magus slowly walked forward until his groin was right in front of the half-orc's face, letting him breath in his scent before pushing his cock between the small tusks that jutted up from his lips. As he did so the other two made their way up to the shore as well, the water dripping off their glistening rubber bodies adorned with corruption crystals that grew over them like spikes. They had also undergone another interesting change as the demonic Magus couldn't tell them apart, the corrupted two essentially clones of one another that gave his infernally enhanced mind an idea.
"Time to make you mine," the demon said as he continued to push his cock into the maw of the other male, watching as horns began to form right where his own were albeit much smaller. "You thought you could resist the corruption, now it will turn you into my loyal slave. Soon we will rule this entire land with me in a seat of power and you at my feet..."
It was clear that the half-orc was getting off on this as Magus released the hold on him, watching his hands fly down to his own rapidly stiffening member as his face grew rubbery and reptilian in nature. In the back of the demon's mind the part that was still Magus knew he would need to make his pet as obedient as possible to get the information, but his corrupted self quickly reassured him that wouldn't be a problem as the two rubber dragons took up positions to start corrupting him with their cocks in his tailhole and mouths on his groin. With all three of them working together the half-orc's body quickly became corrupted and mutated into a hybrid of dragon and alligator, working him into a sexual frenzy as they raced to beat the reset clock to orgasm.
