A probably not so well edited story about a man waking up to a twisted new life.
Formatting was hell. SoFurry did NOT like it when I copy pasted from Google docs. Gonna have to work on that.
Tags for the story are hard for me. Apologies if I used the wrong ones.
The blossom of colors had a delightful taste. Crisp and refreshing.
_ Are you awake?_
'Please! Of course! I'm home right?' Home. The images of that place drifted through his mind. The cool morning breeze. A nicely redone deck. A new TV. Divorce had really been good to him. He wouldn't miss her.
_ Are you aware?_
'Naturally! Why wouldn't I be? Man these sausages are cooking up great. The new grill is awesome. Wait, why am I naked?'
_ You're naked._
'I know, damnit! I just need to find my bedroom. Where is my bedroom? Why cant I find anything!'
_ Think._
'No. No, Why? I don't want to!'
_ Feel._
'Shut up! Leave me alone!' The colors faded. Their taste soured.
_ Activation process initiated._
'No. No! WAIT! I don't want to go!"
The world twisted. Pressed in tight. Smothering his mind as he was dragged down. Falling into the vortex. Pressure increased as he was squeezed out. Slickness sweeping over his body before he felt himself thump to the ground. Shivers rippled through his body. He could see nothing but feel everything. Cold air against him. Something damp, sticky, coated him. Tubes filled his mouth, his throat. He slowly sat up. Leaning against something cool and metal behind him. His limbs were heavy as he lifted his hands to his face. He felt something there. Hard with sharp angles. It coated his head, blinded him. Held his jaws tight against tubes that filled his mouth. A flicker of light passed before his eyes. Words formed.
'Activation complete. Please remove gear.'
A compulsion filled him, causing him to arch, to moan. Fingers feeling over the thing on his head. Searching with desperation. A seam found at the back. Fingers curled against it and pulled. Parting the material and pulling it forward. Elastics and hard plates peeled from him and left him blinking against the light. Pulling more, the tubes began to glide from his jaws. He felt them deep inside, sliding upward. Finally they pulled free. A gasp for air and he slumped.
"Fuck!" His voice cracked. He hardly recognized it as his own.
He felt there was more to do. The compulsion nagged at him. He hadn't taken everything off. He rolled to his side and reached back. Gripping the base of a tube that slid under his tail. A twist and a pull leaving him grimacing as the device slid from his ass.
"Motherfucker!" He hissed.
One thing remained. Clinging to his neck like some dog's collar. Damp fingers struggled with it till he found a button at the front. He felt stings in his neck as the collar opened and he let it fall behind him. Free at last he lay on the floor and panted. Eyes squeezing shut. The room was quiet. The air tasting to clean. A grimace while he sat up once more. Opening his eyes with cleared vision.
"Ok. That was something."
His breath caught as something uncoiled from the ceiling. A metallic snake like thing with segmented gray metal plates set against black undercoating. Four limbs flexed as if stretching itself. Its long angled head sporting four blue lights on black backgrounds that he could only assume were its eyes.
Its voice soft as it spoke, "Thank you for your compliance T139."
His jaws moved but no sound emerged. Staring at the thing in shock. It seemed attached to the ceiling but could easily reach him in the small circular room. He started to stand, body still shaking. He saw his hands. Gray and featureless. Eyes widening as he started to feel over himself. Orange gunk clung to him but anything resembling a human was gone. He touched his tail.
Blurting out, "I have a tail! What the fuck am I? What the hell is going on?"
"Your conversion has been completed T139." The mechanical thing observed him in perfect stillness.
"Stop calling me that! That's not my goddamn name!" He froze. Horrified as he noticed something missing. His voice shrill, "My dick! Where is my fucking dick?"
The machine's voice was so overly kind, "Please try to remain calm."
"Calm? Calm!" He cupped himself, feeling only smooth skin where everything should be. "Listen up you Twiki, Ed209 looking motherfucker. Where. Is. My. Dick!"
The voice smiled, "Your conversion included complete removal of gender. Such distractions would only interfere with your duties."
He gazed at the machine, speechless. His jaws hanging open.
The machine continued, "It is my understanding from going over your records that as a human you were not using it much anyways."
He reached up to touch his own face. The words felt like a physical blow. A part of him registered that he was touching a snout, "I'm going to pretend I didn't hear that lie."
He looked down at himself once more, "Why do this?"
The happy tone of the machine returned, "You have been converted into a Tool species. To be sold at auction. As a human you were worth little to nothing. Ss a Tool you are worth a great deal."
He took a step back and leaned against the machine behind him. The very thing that had moments ago spat him out. "I'm what? Sold? Why me?"
"Because during your checkup the Ventaar doctors noted an exceptional quality that warranted your placement in this program."
Snout wrinkled in confusion, "What quality?"
The machine replied with glee, "No one would miss you!"
A momentary pause before he squeeked, "That's not a quality!"
The machine continued on, "One comment on your record from a former neighbor stated that they believe you to be a narcissistic, psychopath who's emotional disconnection with other people bordered on the paranormal."
"Bullshit! Fuck that!"
"Your ex wife commented that she wished it was legal to light you on fire and whip you through the streets. Also that people would pay good money to see that happen."
"Sounds like her." He sighed, "Alright, stop. Holy hell I'm not that bad!"
He remembered the checkup. It was a mandatory thing on Earth now. With the Ventaar in charge you had to visit the hospital for physicals once every three months. When he went to his he remembered going into the examination room and then nothing.
"I remember! Holy shit you're not kidding. I was kidnapped?"
"Yes! Now you're here, transformed into a new species and still all you can think about is your balls. This seems common for humans. You're far from the first of your kind to cry over your lost glands."
"I don't want this." He trailed off as he ran his tongue over his jaws.
Fear creeping into him. His mind catching up with the reality of the situation. His body started to feel all too real. "Look. Please. Can you change me back or something? I don't know how I could pay you but I would find a way, alright?"
"No." The machine moved closer. Startling him.
It hadn't budged an inch since uncoiling. Now it loomed over him. He realized just how much bigger the machine was than him. "My job is to convert humans and prepare them for sale. Watching you squirm has been a delight. Now it's time to continue."
Fear rose into his throat as the things limbs shot forward. Multisegmented fingers snagging ankles and wrists. The fingers padded but the grip tight. He let out a cry as he was yanked off the ground and held spread eagled in the air.
He stammered, "What are you going to do?"
The machine silent as it turned in place, like a turret set into the ceiling. It dropped him into a small translucent chamber. Warm water spraying in from all sides. Leaving him sputtering, while he lifted his hands to keep the spray from his face. The mechanical limbs returned taking his wrists and pulling his arms above his head. Holding him as the water bathed him head to toe. The spray stopped and was immediately replaced by a swirling wind. Water gliding from his body as drops would from a windshield.
"Let go of me!" He struggled but the mechanical limbs did not move.
Feet sliding on the floor as the machine turned him to face a mirrored surface. Staring at his reflection in fascination and disgust. The form was lean and solid gray. With a snouted head that looked a little like a dinosaur. His eyes a darker gray, blending with the rest of him. Then there was the tail. It surprised him to see its tip twitching behind him. Now seeing it, he also felt it. Such an odd sensation. A familiar image appeared beside his new one. The tanned, toned and tall form of his old human self. Standing twice as tall as his current form.
"Thats-" He managed to squeak. "That's really me? I'm so fucking small."
The machine's smiling tone cut in, "Yes. As I have mentioned you are a Tool species. An organic, synthetic hybrid. Designed with a small size to be more flexible in both appeal and application."
Fear didnt prevent the questions, "What the fuck is synthetic? A machine?"
"Essentially correct." The machine answered.
"This can't be real. Can it?" Shaking his head, "I really can't be this, this thing. Please!"
"There is no going back. This is a permanent change. You are now a product."
Rage crept up past the fear, "Oh fuck you!"
He was yanked upward and twisted around. The machine loomed over him again. "No! Fuck you!"
From under the machine new limbs appeared. Slender segmented metal things writhing like snakes. Made of dark glistening metal. They weaved towards him.
Fear caught in his throat, "What the fuck are those?" The Tendrils curling around his skull he tried to turn his head away. "Stop please! What are you doing?"
He felt a cool touch low on the back of his head. Pressure built and he felt himself parting. Opening. A wave of absolute vulnerability filled him as something pushed inside. The walls of his mind washed away under the invasion of something alien. Smothering his thoughts. The colors returned. So sweet.
The machine's voice twisted into his thoughts.
_ Connection achieved. Test beginning._
The boundaries of his mind flew wide. Exposing the emptiness within. He whimpered as hunger for something to fill it consumed him. That something came. Words and numbers pouring into the emptiness. A flood of information that etched quickly onto the pages of his mind. Libraries of knowledge. He had never felt so satisfied.
_ Do you understand?_
'So much! It's so easy!'
_ Show me._
Questions formed. About the construction of starships. Their parts. Their methods of control. Of proper repairs. Each was easy to understand. He knew how and why faster than light propulsion worked. Knew the power of gravity generators and projectors. He understood how power distribution worked. Quickly he picked out answers to each question presented to him.
He was riding on a new type of high, 'Holy shit. I can fix anything.'
_ The current skill loadout is centered around repairing all common equipment on a Milivi class starship. A civilian inter system ship._
'This is amazing! Can I know more?'
_ Test passed. Scans show one hundred percent normal response to programming Both physical and mental._
An unwelcome sensation began to build. A dragging. A pull.
He struggled against it, 'No, wait, don't take this away!'
The information, so easily given, was just as easily removed. The knowledge etched into his mind erased with such speed it caused nausea. Once again he knew only what he had before. He felt hollow. An empty shell waiting for something to fill it.
A pitiful whimper, 'Please, I need something! Anything!'
_ No. Once you have been sold someone will program you. Do not worry, most of your time waiting will be in stasis anyways._
His gray color shifted, darkening to near black. At the base of his tail and along the outside of his upper arms symbols and slashes appeared. Inventory number markings. Looking similar to a bar code. The words, 'For Sale', appeared in large yellow script along his arms and upper legs. The designation 'T139' appeared on his chest also in yellow script. Around which slowly rotated an animated ring of 'For Sale' like some cheap internet ad.
The machine's presence pulled from his mind as the physical connection was pulled from the back of his head. With a rush control of his thoughts and body returned. He was dropped to his feet where he stumbled but caught himself. Hand snapped to the back of his head. He felt some sort of slit for a moment, but then it was gone.
"What. The fuck. Was that?"
The machine's voice, outside his head once more, replied eagerly, "A dataport. In your case it's a biological one but it functions the same. How else would you be programmed?"
His heart sank, "I'm not a thing! You can't do this!"
"You humans are so repetitive. Do you think constantly denying reality will work?"
He looked over himself. Running a hand over the barcode marking on his tail, and his arms. It wasn't burned on, or drawn on, all he felt was silken smooth skin. Even the slowly rotating marking on his chest was all too real, "How is this even possible?"
"Your skin can be adjusted on the fly to any color or specification. Including animation, video and many others. Is this not clear? Now, I have three others to finish converting and a schedule to keep."
The machine's limbs worked in unison to sweep him into an open door. He smacked into the back of a small cylindrical chamber.
The machine's voice was so pleasant, "Goodbye T139."
He reached out, "Wait! No!"
The door closed with a snap leaving him in darkness. A lurch of motion downward nearly pulled him from the floor. The stop caused him to buckle. All he could hear was his own panicked breathing.
"Let me out!" He pounded on the wall.
A dull red light penetrated the darkness as the front of his chamber shifted transparent. Pressing his back against the wall as he spotted another tube, much like his own, a few feet across from him. A creature very much like himself was suspended within orange fluid. Its body attached to a myriad of tubes. It bore the same markings on its skin as he did. Save for the singular difference that its chest was marked with T138. Fluid began to fill his chamber from the bottom. Rushing upwards.
"No. no, no, no." He hit the walls to no avail. "I'm not a part! I'm-"
Words smothered as something hit his face, wrapping around his jaws. He pulled at the bands of silken material slipping around his head, cutting off his sight. Sharp angled metal pressing against his skull, fitting snug. A light flared to life in his vision. A swirling vortex of wondrous colors.
The will drained from his mind. Why fight?
Arms dropped limp to his side. _Just relax. _
He felt his jaws slacken and tubes glide over his teeth, past his tongue and then further. No thoughts.
Slight stings at his neck as a band wrapped around it. Be empty.
A brief surge of discomfort as his anus was parted by an intrusion. Be nothing.
He felt himself floating as his body began to numb. Those wonderful colors remained a constant even as his eyes closed. He fell into endless sleep. Preserving him for the auction to come.
