From Defeat Comes Victory (7/7)
#7 of From Defeat Comes Victory
An epic battle in space leads to the alien creature known as Vasran to flee for his life, his damaged ship only able to get him to a backwater planet that will just keep him alive. With nothing to do but pointing himself at the planet all he can do is hope that he will survive here long enough in order to get his revenge. Can he turn his bitter defeat into a victory?

As Vasran and Ark got back to the house the alien lizardman dismissed everyone else as he could tell that the vulpine was still intensely upset. "I didn't realize that he would be converting people in the same spot that Rove would be," the rubber lizardman said as he watched the latex arctic fox continue to pace back and forth in the living room. "Trust me when I say that converting him was the last thing on my mind. We had a deal, he didn't get converted, and the one that almost did will spend some time as a drone while I make sure to get everyone more keyed in."
"Well that's the problem, isn't it?" Ark replied angrily. "You've been so busy trying to gain power and plan your revenge that you're not even looking at the people you involve anymore. I mean Trent was an accident but Rove... if something had happened to him and he got droned or something and couldn't come back I would never forgive you. I still might not, I mean how do I know that you really didn't do it on purpose?"
"Why on this earth would I do something like that on purpose?" Vasran asked.
"I don't know," Ark said with an exacerbated sigh. "Rocco's been telling me that you've been talking about him a lot and you didn't let me go to the apartment that time and now with this whole thing. It always feels like you're holding back, I mean we're open books to you and none of us can see into that mind of yours. Perks of being an invading alien species I guess."
As Vasran mentally debated in anger having the kangaroo be added to his drones he continued to sit there and rub his head. He could sense that Lorkosi was getting close to their location and without his psionic abilities at full strength he didn't know how close. Plus with Ark angry at him it sent ripples through his psynet that he couldn't block out which made doing what he needed to do an even bigger pain than before. He was spread too thin and without Ark it was going to be even worse, so with a sigh he stood up and held out his hand which the vulpine looked at in question.
"You said it wasn't fair that you didn't get to know me when I know everything about you," Vasran said as he continued to hold out his palm. "Well here it is, your chance. Grab my hand and the street becomes two ways, you know everything about me and I know everything about you. You also get access to my abilities, to everything... you wouldn't just be my ally, you'd be my partner."
As Ark looked at the outstretched hand he slowly moved over to take it the alien lizardman flexed his fingers slightly to cause the vulpine to stop. "Fair warning though," Vasran said. "You do this and you won't be able to identify yourself as what you were... not completely at least. Everything will always feel alien to you, like you don't belong here, even when you look at or talk to people like Rove. A lot of creatures take that familiarity with their surroundings for granted and if you don't want to leave that comfort than you don't have to take it."
The room grew deathly silent as Ark and Vasran stared at one another, the anger still clearly visible in the vulpine's eyes. At first Vasran thought that Ark wasn't going to do it but just as he did the vulpine reached forward and gripped onto his hand. The sensation was like grabbing a live wire as every muscle in Ark's body clenched and he would have fallen to the floor had the alien lizardman not held him. Vasran held him tight as his body began to convulse, all the information Vasran had ever accumulated now pouring into the poor male as it overloaded his brain. When you were a species that assimilated others disseminating information, even when it came to the time he did it to Ark, was something their psyches were able to handle...
...for Ark it wasn't so easy.
Finally after about ten minutes Ark finally settled down to twitching occasionally, and when that stopped he finally broke the link between the two and laid the vulpine down to where he was comfortable. "A pity..." a voice said that caused Vasran to spin around, his muzzle immediately curling into a snarl as he saw a familiar alien lizardman sitting there on the nearby recliner. "I thought you had killed him, but it looks like he's going to live."
"You..." Vasran snarled as he watched his nemesis stand up and smirk at him. "Killing or converting my entire clan wasn't good enough for you? Decided you had nothing better to do than visit this backwater planet and finish me off?"
The lizardman laughed and though Vasran stayed on his guard he didn't bother attacking; though it looked like he was standing there he knew that it was merely a projection that Lorkosi was feeding into his psionic field. "You know as well as I do that we can't allow you to live," he sneered as he looked over the fallen vulpine. "Though I have to commend you on surviving this long in the first place I'm afraid the Council will not allow you to rebuild the clan that they just removed from the universe."
"That YOU removed from the universe," Vasran nearly shouted as he pointed a claw at him. "Any other would have at least shown my brood the mercy of being able to live on without a master and just killed me, you specifically waited until the end so that you had a reason to kill them all."
"That's not the only reason..." Lorkosi said as his even grin widened. "I also wanted to watch your suffer... and did you suffer..." Vasran had to take a step back from the pure malevolence that he felt coming from the other creature. "But all fun comes to an end, and so shall you."
"Then why don't you come down here and do it already?" Vasran replied as he held out his hands. "You obviously know where I am."
"You know why," Lorkosi hissed. "Down there even with your meager psinet you would possibly be able to overpower me and I can't bring down all of mine. No no... you will come up here and turn yourself in so that I can bring you back to the capital alive so they can execute you there."
"Tempting..." Vasran snarked. "But I'm going to have to decline, however my counteroffer is for you to go fuck yourself."
The lizardman laughed once more as his projection sat down at the head of the unconscious rubber arctic fox. "It's a shame then..." Lorkosi said as he waved his hand forward. "I mean I was going to trade you your life for this one, but now I have no idea what I'm going to do with him." Vasran's stomach sank down into his feet as a second projection joined the first, this one was a grey rubber drone with vaguely canine features that Vasran could sense the identity of. "Of course your new friend there is going to be devastated when he hears that his love interest is about to get blasted out of an air lock..."
"Don't you dare!" Vasran shouted this time, though he knew he had just tipped his hand at this point it appeared Lorkosi already knew the cards he held anyway. "I will personally rip you limb from limb... I will turn this planet into a machine world just so I can get the means to completely destroy you!"
"Well there's the fire I was hoping to see," Lorkosi smirked as he dismissed the second projection and walked over to Vasran until they were only a few inches away. "I'm more than happy to give you your chance to stop me; come to the location that I'm sending you in one hour and I'll open a portal to my ship. Make sure you're not late, you know how much I hate waiting."
Lorkosi patted Vasran on the cheek a few times, then raked his claws down it before he disappeared. The alien lizardman grimaced in pain as the very real wounds began to bleed, blue blood dripping over his fingers as he brought a hand up to try and keep it from going everywhere. It was certainly a show of the other alien's power, something that caused him to grimace as he went to the bathroom to clean himself up. As he watched the blue-tinged water flow down the drain into the sink the only thing he could think of was what he was going to do next... and how he was going to tell Ark.
"I already know," Ark said suddenly, the alien spinning around to see the alien arctic fox standing there with a washcloth. "Whether it was intentional or not you left the door open to me and I saw everything, including the memories that were brought up when Lorkosi taunted you. It's... definitely given me prospective on your vendetta against him."
"All I wanted was to stop..." Vasran said as he looked down. "I had been a loyal assimilator for so long, all those worlds, all those people. I used to think that I was uplifting them and that our empire was giving these creatures a great gift... the second I wasn't sure my entire clan got a target on its back. Maybe they were right to try and destroy me, I was here on this planet for two days and I was spreading through your population like a virus."
"That's not true and you know it," Ark tried to console the alien. "You didn't want to do this but you knew that he was going to come for you and did what you had to. I... don't fault you for it, and when push came to shove you even made sure that you catered to my request to not get Rove involved. At the pool I know I was hard on you but after seeing what you went through... well, it honestly ran a shiver down my spine and I'm even more willing to help you now."
"It doesn't matter anyway," Vasran replied with a sigh as Ark began to dab the areas around the wounds to help clean them off. "In an hour I'm going to have to go up to his ship and turn myself in so that we can get Rove back, not only because I promised that I would keep him safe but so that hopefully Lorkosi will be satisfied enough that he'll leave the rest of you alone. I pushed you all into this for nothing..."
Ark just shook his head and placed the bloody washcloth on the edge of the sink. "You're not done yet," the vulpine said as he looked into his eyes. "I've seen what you were able to accomplish on those other worlds and when Lorkosi attacked you, you can still win. Now you have fifty-five minutes until he is able to open a portal to the surface, let's get the rest of our allies in here and figure out a way to win."
Twenty minutes later Vasran, Ark, Sabyn, Sam, and Harold all sat in a circle with their hands touching one another. With the physical connection they were able to share thoughts and knowledge with one another far more rapidly, and while they were in this state of psionic hivemind their bodyguards and servants alike stood watch over the circle to make sure Lorkosi didn't interfere once again. When they were done they all let out a gasp as the rubber alien creatures looked at one another.
"This plan is insane," Sam said as he rubbed his head. "I mean I know you just beamed the schematics to my head and I can build it you're asking us to rig a bomb and get it to you in a little over half an hour."
"I know it's going to be a tight time-table," Vasran explained. "But Lorkosi is here without his fleet, he has to be in order to get here so quickly after the battle we had. That means if we take down the flagship he's on he'd be trapped there, all we have to do is time it right. Now we don't have much time, Lorkosi isn't bluffing about the portal because it takes an hour for it to charge up and if we're not there when it fires than we miss our chance to save Rove and end this once and for all."
Vasran just nodded as they all stood up, electing to talk on the move since their time was extremely limited. With it being dark out they opted not to go back into their guises in order to conserve energy for the battle ahead, sticking to the shadows despite most of the campus already in their beds for the night. While the others continued to discuss the details of their plan it was already permanently etched into his mind and it caused him to shake his head. He was about to go up against a Captain of an empire in his own flagship with only three viable allies and one partner, which Ark had already profusely apologized to him for droning Leonard since he could have helped too. The latex lizardman told him that what was done was done, it was time to focus on the future.
"You guys go on ahead," Vasran said as he held Ark back. "We know where to go and will meet you there, I just need to have a little talk here."
The others gave a small nod or wave of the hand and continued on, leaving the rubber arctic fox and lizardman standing there. "Listen," Vasran said. "If this goes to hell I want you to run towards the portal and leave me behind. Since I let you in you have enough power and knowledge that you can lead the others and take care of them, if they don't have you to anchor the psinet then they may start to go unstable and maybe even get driven insane."
"Don't talk like that," Ark said defiantly. "This is going to work and we're going to save you."
"Lorkosi is a master of his craft," Vasran replied with a shake of his head. "In all honesty he's going to see through this ruse and take me. The only thing that I can do is hope that you manage to get out of there alive... I wouldn't even take you up there but you need to make sure that Rove is alright and also for this to even have a chance of working. Our only hope is that his pride is going to get in the way of seeing the truth."
Ark just sighed and went up to Vasran, hugging him as the two stood there in the shadow of the mechanical science building. Neither of them had to say anything, just from the surface emotions they picked up off one another was enough for them as they stayed like that for a minute before they separated once again. "C'mon," the alien lizardman said as he began to walk towards the door propped open for them. "We got a meeting that we need to get ready for."
Half an hour later the group made it to the hill with only a few minutes to spare, Ark's car propped up next to the tree that they had nearly crashed into taking a short-cut to get there. As they all ran up the hill a beam of blue light suddenly came down from space, illuminating the top of the area that they were supposed to go into. Only they could see it, the rest of the surrounding area completely oblivious to the beacon of light that illuminated the area for them. Vasran, Ark, and Sabyn waited for Sam to attach the final piece of the bomb they had created, the core of solid psionic energy that Vasran had used to power his ship that got him there in the first place. Once that was done the scale-textured latex covered it completely and they all gave each other one last round of goodbyes before the three went towards the pool of light.
When the three stepped inside nothing seemed to happen at first, but as they stood there the scene around them began to change. The trees and night sky seemed to dissolve away, replaced with pure light for a few seconds before a new scene surrounded him. It was one that Vasran knew well, the inside of the viewing deck of Lorkosi's flagship. Vasran nodded to the other two and began to walk forward with the stag and fox behind him as they approached the only other creature there, the beam of light that was the portal still active.
"Welcome back Vasran," Lorkosi said as he turned away from the large view screens that showed the space outside, including the planet, and looked to them. "I bet you must feel right at home. And the creature that you call a fox man is Ark, nice to finally meet you in person. And that other creature is..."
"Tired of your introductions," Vasran said as the stag crossed his arms. "They're here for one reason only just like me, and if I don't see him come out I'll-"
"Detonate the bomb hidden in your chest?" Lorkosi finished, Ark and Sabyn's mouth going wide as Vasran just stood there with a glare on his face. "You didn't think you could actually try and sneak that one by me, even if you were strong enough to mask a signature that powerful I would sense the obfuscation. Of course you know better than to try and pull that one over on me so I'm going to assume that you are using it as part of your threat."
"Indeed I am," Vasran said. "You try anything with us and all I have to do is give one mental command and we're all dead. Forgive me that I didn't take you at your word that you would just give Rove back."
"I'm wounded at your lack of faith," Lorkosi smirked. "Rove will be be returned to you, once he's finished..."
The three looked at him in question before he snapped his fingers, revealing the creature that had been there the entire time. Sabyn had to lock his arms around Ark and keep him back as they saw Rove kneeling there, still a drone and with his mouth wrapped around Lorkosi's erect cock. "You bastard..." Vasran growled as he could hear Ark continuing to struggle to get at him.
"I was just sampling the merchandise before I gave it back," Lorkosi said as he gave his hips a slight thrust, causing the lupine to moan. "I can see now how you managed to get such a following in such a short time, the pleasure these creatures give is quite exquisite. Perhaps you and I will have a go at it before I lock you away to be transported to the capital, maybe have the other drones here watch as their leader takes down yet another piece of traitorous scum for the empire."
"Well unless you want my friend Ark here to show you just how violent this species can be I'd suggest you stop now and give him back," Vasran warned as Ark finally calmed down. "In the condition you found him of course."
Lorkosi just smirked and they watched his tail arched around while he pulled back from the kneeling drone. As soon as the flap of rubber connected with Rove's head and the tentacle pushed its way into his throat Vasran could feel the other alien pulling away his influence from the wolf. The two continued to stare daggers at one another as the rubber slowly receded away from the body of the lupine creature, his form shuddering slightly as the alien influence was purged from his system. In short order the conversion tail was removed and a perfectly normal naked wolf fell on all fours as he began to cough.
With the two still not trusting one another Vasran told Ark to call Rove over and see if he was alright, standing there with the murderous intention to blow everyone on that ship up just to take him out. Using the skills that the latex lizardman taught him he made sure that all presence of Lorkosi was out of Rove's system. "Wh... where am I?" Rove muttered as he began to come back to his senses, looking at Ark as his hand pressed against the synthetic skin of his muzzle. "Ark... your face..."
"I can explain that all to you later," Ark said as he put one of Rove's shoulders to help him walk.
"Looks like our transaction is complete," Lorkosi said with a grin. "The portal will set you back down to your planet, minus one alien of course."
"Hold on..." Vasran said as he looked back at the three that were starting to head towards the portal. "Considering this is the last time I'm going to see a friendly face for a while can I at least say my goodbyes? Considering it a dead man's last wish."
Lorkosi rolled his eyes but waved his hand to allow him to do so before reminding him that they maybe had a few minutes left of juice to keep the portal open, Vasran going up to Rove first who recoiled slightly when he saw yet another alien creature approaching him. When Ark told him that it was okay and that he was the one that came up to save him he seemed to relax slightly, though he still looked wearily at Vasran who just sighed. "We never really got to know each other," the alien said as he gave the wolf a pat on the back. "Or at least you didn't get to know me, but I got to know you a bit and if I can say one thing... when this is all over ask this arctic fox hauling your tail back to the planet out on a date or something, okay?"
Ark looked away in embarrassment as Rove looked at the fox in confusion, but his muzzle was quickly brought back towards Vasran by his scaly hand. "Thank you for saving me," the latex lizardman said as Ark swallowed hard to keep back the emotion. "Unfortunately it looks like you only bought me a few extra days but... I'm glad for them. Take care of the rest of them, you have the knowledge now to be the leader of this little clan."
"You can't do this..." Ark said as he choked slightly. "We need you... you said that you would be able to come back with us as long as you had the bomb. Let's just run right now."
Vasran just shook his head. "The portal is linked to Lorkosi," he explained. "He could turn it off with a thought and even with the threat of death he'd rather see his flagship burn with him in it than let me get away alive like that. No... we knew this was the way it had to be, just give me one last hug and send you on your way."
Before the two could get close however both parties felt a massive jolt of pain that floored them both. While Rove had gotten enough of his bearings to catch Ark before he fell Vasran collapsed onto the ship floor while clutching his head. "That was quite the performance..." Lorkosi said as he slowly clapped while moving towards him. "It would have almost been touching had I not seen the psionic bridge that you two had taken great lengths to build between you along with the link between you and the stag to power the whole thing. Quite the gamble too, especially since your abilities are so weak you might not have been able to trigger the bomb while riding in your new fox friend here."
Vasran got on his back and attempted to activate the bomb inside him but suddenly it felt like every molecule of his alien body couldn't move, Lorkosi continuing to chuckle as Ark and Sabyn looked down at their fallen leader in despair. "Run!" Vasran shouted at them as he managed to tilt his head back. "He has to focus on me to keep me from activating the device, get out of here before he's able to close the portal too!"
"Yes, run! Run!" Lorkosi shouted as his laughter grew more maniacal by the second, waving at the three as they dragged the semi-conscious Ark to the pillar of light. "It's going to be such good sport hunting you down while on that planet, I should be paying you for this experience! Maybe I won't completely sanitize your psinet as thanks for the potential challenge."
"And as for you..." Lorkosi continued as he continued to pour his own psionic energy to keep the other alien frozen in place while picking him up by the throat. "I'm going to rip that bomb out of you and keep you from healing the damage, though you'll still be alive the entire time. Then when I'm done I may just take your little project inside you and set down on that lovely university so you can watch again as I slaughter those you're connected to. But for right now why don't you wave bye-bye to your friends."
As the sadistic alien took Vasran's hand with his free one and waved it to the others that had just stepped into the pool of light he caught something that caused him to pause and his manic joy to fade. It was not much more than a slight smirk on the face of Sabyn, though it was enough to catch the eye of the alien creature. When it was clear that Lorkosi was looking at him the stag gave him a small salute before he disappeared into the light along with the others before the portal lost the last of its energy and shut down. Almost instantly Lorkosi went from happy to enraged as the lizard creature he held in his hand began to deform and drip down his arm and onto the deck of the spaceship.
"The others couldn't program much into this thing's databanks, so it really doesn't have long," the melting alien lizardman said as the rubber skin fell away to reveal a skeleton of metal and servos underneath. "Then again... neither do you, so I'll just say this." Lorkosi's body visibly shake in rage as he was about to throw the robotic framework down before he saw the pressure plate that was no longer held in by the latex pop out, causing the core of energy it was connected with to quickly overload as the robot's arms came up and flipped him off with both hands. "Boom."
Meanwhile on the planet's surface the rest of the group waited anxiously next to the pillar of light, looking at both it and the night sky as they waited for the others to return. When three shapes appeared and stepped out of it they all stood up and ran to the spot, looking excitedly at them as the portal closed behind them. "Well?" Harold asked as they set down the still-dazed fox. "Did it work?"
Before any of them could answer the night sky suddenly turned to day as a massive green flash appeared, looking briefly like an emerald sun as everyone shielded their eyes and looked up. "That's going to be on the news tomorrow..." Harold said as Sam helped Rove prop Ark up. "And since you all made it back it seems he took the bait."
"You know it," Sabyn replied, though it wasn't in Sabyn's voice as the stag's head began to shift and contort. "Arrogant prick never even saw it coming, thankfully he not only underestimated my power but the access to technology I had. Sorry about blowing up your robot by the way Sam."
"Ah, don't worry about it," Sam replied as they watched the stag's muzzle swell, becoming more reptilian before it began to push out impossibly far. "Thanks to Artemis no doubt being an even more interested benefactor I'm sure Harold and I can build a new one in no time. Plus it's the least I could do for the gift you gave me."
Vasran would have nodded his head but it was still partially lodged in Sabyn's as the merged creature continued to separate, arms and legs thickening until a divot formed in the middle to separate the two bodies. When they finally had two separate muzzles both of them groaned in pleasure from the sensation of their entwined latex bodies disengaging from one another. It was more than just a simple merge like he had with Ark, in order for the rubber alien to mask his signature enough even with the psionic core shadowing them he had to interlace every inch of himself into the stag to make sure that Lorkosi didn't sense his actual presence in the other creature.
As the others watched the two continue to pull apart from one another with mild interest one of them was staring with their eyes wide and their mouths open. With Ark safe and somewhat comfortable Rove finally got a chance to look around at his surroundings and seeing the various rubber creatures freaked him out enough before what appeared to be a lizardman was forming out of a stag's body. Luckily Rocco, who had been guarding over the others while the mission was taking place, saw the wolf begin to freak out and informed the others who quickly turned their attention to him to try and bring him down. As Rove began to back away in fear the others feared they would have to pacify him with their tails before Ark's voice suddenly spoke up and drew the wolf back in.
"Just focus on me Rove," Ark said as he slowly began to sit up, which prompted the wolf to once more kneel down to help him up though he wasn't quite sure why. "Talk to me buddy, keep your mind off of them."
"Easier said than done," Rove replied as he looked over at the others who were still staring at them, though they quickly averted their gaze when Ark waved his hand. "I don't even know what to talk about..."
"How about the fact I saw you locking muzzles with that otter from the water polo team?" Ark replied, shocking the other male. "You never told me you were bi."
"Never thought that there was a need to bring it up," Rove replied as he looked down at the fox. "Is there?"
"Perhaps we could discuss that later and focus on something else instead," Ark said with a coy grin. "Like where you want to be taken to dinner so that I can make it up to you for putting you through all this trouble."
The wolf stood there speechless for a second, but when a voice was heard it wasn't Rove's as the two turned to look at the now completely unmerged Vasran. "That's quite the smooth way of asking someone out on a date Ark," he said as he reformed the last of his body while Sabyn sat back and panted in a mixture of horniness and exhaustion. "Of course perhaps if our lupine friend is no longer freaking out we might want to bring this back to the house seeing as Ark has double parked next to a tree and we're all a bunch of aliens that emerged from a beam of light that might have gotten picked up somewhere."
The others quickly agreed and began to walk back towards their cars, those that came with Vasran heading towards the poorly parked car of the vulpine while the others that came later went to theirs that was still on the street. "You're... the one that I saw on the spaceship..." the wolf said as the latex lizardman shook his head. "Vasran, right?"
The alien lizardman introduced himself as they all got into Ark's car, packing in the best they can as they shifted back to their guise forms save for the original alien. Once they looked presentable they slowly made their way out of the park and back onto the street to meet the others back at the home base. As Vasran looked out at the night sky he couldn't help but call back to the first time he had seen it, which despite only being a few days ago felt like an eternity. Soon though it was covered with the light pollution from the city and he put his head back inside when they encountered actual traffic.
"So what now?" Ark asked.
"Well... I had likely been a low priority on the empire's radar after my defeat against Lorkosi up in space," Vasran mused. "Of course blowing up a capital flagship and their captain is going to bump that up a few notches but this is still a planet they don't think I can exploit... still, they're going to come, and we're going to have to be ready for them."
"Sounds like we're going to need more people," Sam said from the back seat. "Between Harold and I we can give you a list of people who would be as interested in this as I was for sure."
"I can get more people from the various athletic programs," Sabyn also interjected. "A lot of players get injured that would like bodies like these I'm sure."
"Well one thing is for sure..." Vasran said with a growing grin on his face. "We are going to need A LOT more people."
