A phone rang loudly as the morning alarm went off. Text on the phone said 'Wake up Drake' on it. A young 26-year-old man reached out from his bed and hit the mute button. He smacked his lips and pulled himself out of bed. He wore a t-shirt that had old cartoon characters and pajama pants of old video game characters. He took a quick shower and then changed into a normal shirt and jeans. "Another day in college." He said to himself casually. He opened up the window and looked outside. He noticed a few people already outside going to their classes. "Guess I shouldn't be late."

Drake didn't bother adjusting his short brown hair. He put his glasses on, opened the door, and walked out into the hallway that was wide enough for a massive truck. Right outside the door, he noticed John.

John was a little younger than Drake was. He was a little chubby, but the lower half of his body was far from human. While the upper half of his body was male and normal, he had the lower half of a literal cow. Some might call his shape a 'cowtaur' of sorts. From the waist down, he was a full-fledged cow complete with udder, and very much cow instead of bull. "Hey Drake." John said with a wave.

"Hey John." Drake waved back casually. "Are you ready for today's test?"

John smacked his forehead. "Oh cud. There was a test? I totally forgot abooooout it." He spoke with a moo. He walked with Drake through the hallways.

Drake shrugged. "You study even when you don't know if there's a test, so I'm sure you'll do fine." He opened up the door outside to reveal there were cowtaurs of all shapes and sizes outside. It was about half with the top of a male, and the other half female, but they all ended with a cow bottom, regardless about whatever their upper gender was.

"Yeah, but still it doesn't help how forgetful I've been lately." John walked with his books casually with Drake. "Hey, I'm going to grab some breakfast before we go."

Drake nodded to John. He walked with him to the cafeteria. The cafeteria resembled that of many cafeterias, except there were no chairs to sit and they positioned the tables higher to account for the lack of chairs. Drake remembered the cafeteria used to have chairs, and it used to serve all kinds of food as well, but now it mostly served mostly vegetarian meals, and absolutely no beef. However, chicken was available upon request.

Drake wanted to tell John he was forgetful because that's often what happened with cows, but he knew John would just laugh it off. Drake wanted to tell John that he was once a normal human. In fact, the entire college was once all completely normal humans, but everyone except him changed. Much of the college remained the same with the only adjustments made to fit the now almost entirely cowtaur staff and students. Drake remembered how long he spent trying to figure out what was going on, and how special he was, but he wasn't special enough to stop the changes from happening to everyone. Instead, he just helped himself to a chicken breakfast sandwich and stood at a table to eat with him. "Yeah, but you can write down what the professor says on the board." He said, although he knew John's reply already.

"I kind of space out now and then when doing that. A lot of us do." John shrugged. "You're the only one that doesn't seem to zone out in the entire school." He ate a salad with a smile on his face.

"Well, I'm not a cowtaur like the rest of you." Drake was special in 'that' manner to everyone else.

"Yeah, but you are a little on the weird side." John finished his salad. His hooves clopped on the ground as he stretched and drank his water. "You were the one trying to tell us all that we used to be normal people. You know how bizarre that sounds?"

"Sure, you'll remember that, but not the lectures." Drake finished his breakfast and turned to the door.

"Selective memories. You know you have it too." John hip bumped Drake playfully.

Drake casually nodded and let out a small sigh. "Yeah, you're right about that." He knew everyone was once fully human though. He even had a crush on one of the girls, but he knew being with a cowtaur would make life tremendously difficult for him now, and having children with her would very likely be impossible. Not that having children were a long-term goal of his, but he just didn't think the two were compatible anymore. "Okay, so we go do the test. What plans do you have after that?"

John shrugged. "Well, I was thinking about grazing on the field until the next class, but if you have any ideas, I'd love to hear it."

"No, not particularly." Drake replied. "I'm not big on grass. I guess I'll just be playing some video games until then." He had long given up on trying getting the world to turn back to normal. Now it was a matter of just living his everyday normal life around these cow people. While many things were the same, the cow taurs did behave oddly in a few different ways, and it was other things besides their diet.

John paused in his steps and let out a burp. He began chewing once more and walked along with Drake. "Man, you don't chew grass, you don't sit idly around outside, you are so strange."

"We went over this conversation." Drake said with a bored tone.

John shrugged. "Did we?" He let out a quiet moo. "My bad. It's just so strange how humans don't do many things that cows do. You really need to tell me more about the human life at some point."

Drake nodded. 'If only you remembered how you were human. Heck, you're the one that showed me around campus.' He thought.

Drake and John went into the large classroom together and took their spots. Drake hated standing around all day, but he could sit back in his room if he so desired. Part of him wanted to call his parents and speak with them. He also wanted to see how the rest of the world was, but he was afraid. He didn't want to find out if the rest of the world changed into cow taurs, or possibly even worse. Worse yet, he knew the reasoning behind the transformation, but he also knew there was nothing he could do about it.

After class, Drake left and walked around campus. He noticed students still talking and walking around casually, despite their lower cow parts. He saw their udders, and a building that could milk the students when they felt too full. The entire college smelled like a barnyard, but a clean one at least. The idea of barnyards made him realize he had to use the bathroom. Like many other places around the college, bathrooms also changed. While there were still sinks for handwashing, it felt a bit trivial. Most students with their cow parts couldn't even reach back there to begin with.

The bathroom was also slightly different from before, starting from the very entrance. There was no longer a male and female public bathroom, but a unisex room.

The unisex public bathroom made Drake wonder if it was true for outside the college. He wondered about many things outside the college, but every time his mind wondered to it, it came back to how afraid he was to know just what happened out there. He felt as if the college campus was in its own little world, away from all of the woes of Earth, but he'd have to graduate it and go back home at some point.

Inside the bathroom, there were multiple wide stalls. Drake opened up one stall and noticed the large hole in the back bottom. There was no toilet paper, but there was a spray to clean off someone if he or she needed it.

Drake walked out of the bathroom and made his way back to the dorm. As he walked along, he noticed more cow taurs. Some ate grass, others just sat around and did nothing, and some spoke with others as if today was just like any normal day. He smelled a foul scent in the air, but he was used to it by now. Cows burped and chewed their cud, but they also farted, and they farted a lot. Cow taurs were no different from this.

Back in his dorm, Drake looked over at his small bookshelf. He saw a variety of books about his school studies, as well as books about magic. 'I really don't feel that special.' He thought to himself as he remembered the words of a special visitor to the college, the visitor before the various transformations began to happen. 'Descendant of a hero. Strong immunity to special magic. Yet here I can't do anything to help anyone out.'

Drake pulled out a book about magic and glanced through it. He thought the person who wrote it was nothing short of insane, but it detailed how magic could work in today's society. It stated the complications of magic, both physical and mental. It talked about how detailed transformations had to be, and how punishing one wrong move was. Ever since he noticed people transforming into cow tuars, he wanted to study more about magic, but he never figured out a way to reverse it. There came a point where he just kept trying to accept his new reality for what it was, even if it was difficult with hundreds of cow taur creatures that he doubted could populate, as they all were cows, and no bulls.

"All of this." Drake said to himself. He closed the book and tossed it aside. "All of this, all of these people changed. All of their lives just casually altered to something else. Not to make their lives worse, as they act as if everything is the same. Heck, I remember that day there was a visitor from someone's parents, and they both had the cow taur parts. I had 'several' questions as to how they can conceive a child. All of that, but one thing I really want to know, and I would kill to know...is why?"

Drake glanced to the door, and then up at his ceiling. He knew he wasn't going to get an answer. The sorceress that visited him explained what she was doing, but she didn't help. While she said he was special, he wasn't so special that he was a threat. He was just a normal nobody. Someone that she'd just leave be. He'd never become a threat to her. Not during his lifetime anyways. He remembered that night, and how upset she made him.

Drake felt as if he could be a hero to try to save the world, but he didn't live in a fantasy world. He felt as if he did, and in perhaps some realities, he very likely did, but he knew he couldn't do anything to fix the situation. He couldn't learn how to do magic on his own, as much as he wanted to try. Magic was a complicated subject, and from what he remembered the sorceress telling him, his strong immunity towards magic made it all that harder to learn it.

'She sounded evil, but at the same time, she wasn't super evil.' He thought to himself. He couldn't get her out of his mind. He wanted to bring her back at times, but at the same time, she made him feel worthless. Drake looked out the window, and then at his computer. He sighed and decided to use a website to explore his neighborhood and see what it looked like from a street view. He noticed the houses looked the same, but the cars looked different. Drake couldn't zoom inside a car to see, but he decided to inspect a website that sold cars. Before he had the chance, the website crashed. 'That's right.' Drake sighed. Exploring much of the outside world with his computer was almost impossible. The lack of good internet access had nothing to do with magic. The school Wi-Fi was just that terrible. Drake couldn't figure out how different the world was, at least not without leaving the campus, and he didn't have a car to go far either. He looked out into the distance and saw the city, but he also saw the long winding road between the college and the city. The road traversed into an area that went just out of sight, and it was the out of sight area between the college and the city where the road turned him around every time, as if something wanted to keep him at the college.

Drake stared out the window. He wished he just had a simple answer as to what he should do. His mind felt confused. His thoughts continued to trace back to the sorceress, the magic, and the various cow taurs that never knew themselves as anything else except that, and that Drake was the odd one out for being human. Still, despite being human, they accepted him as for who he was, so he imagined there must have been different creatures out there in the world.

Drake walked back out of his dorm and knocked on another dorm a few doors down. "Jess, you there?" He called out.

A woman opened up the door. Like everyone else at the campus, she had the lower half of a cow, but the upper half looked as if it belonged to a beautiful woman with long blonde hair. "Drake? What is it now?" She said with an annoyed tone.

Drake tried to convince Jess when the changes first began to happen. He tried so hard to convince them that their relationship broke off. It didn't help that Jess developed the lower half of a cow so that, if they ever were to get a more serious relationship, the pair couldn't do anything romantic together, and children were very much impossible. 'She could have just made me infertile, but no. She had to change everyone around me into some kind of cow taur and make everyone think I'm insane.' He thought.

"I'm just...you're still mad at me and think I'm crazy, right?" He asked nervously. "I mean, I'm trying to make amends."

"Drake, you began screaming and making a scene. You made my girlfriends think I'm crazy by showing off just how crazy you were. You talk about how we all used to be a human like you, and then you talk about pants, as if I could wear them." Jess turned to her cowhide lower half. "I just don't think we can be together if you're going to pull stunts like that."

Drake sighed. "Okay, sorry to bother you." He walked back to his dorm. Once he returned, he laid down in his bed and put his hands behind his back. He decided to think back to where it all began, and he hoped in his thoughts, he'd find the answers he was looking for...
