One Memorable Journey Pg.1
#1 of One Memorable Journey
Dying fires popped and crackled across a field of bodies and mangled metal, a figure slowly walking into view, everything going black as the figure started to turn. "And last night was the first time for this variation?" A woman asked, an older tiger dressed in an old plaid shirt and jeans, taking a headpiece off of a young looking female wolf of silver fur.
"Yeah... Yeah it was." The wolf replied as she sat up from laying down, sighing and looking at the tiger.
"Look Alex, like I said before I believe it's just your subconscious trying to overcome a fear you have." the tiger said as she turned off a screen used to view replays of people's dreams.
"I know but I just can't shake the feeling that there's something more to it." Alex remarked as she stood up and smoothed out her clothes, a pair of dark grey combat pants with blue highlights and a light grey long sleeve shirt. "thank you though Marie. I need to go to the briefing room and read up before the higher ups get there."
"Good luck Alex. Even a wonder soldier like you or Jackie needs luck sometimes." the tiger said as Alex waved on her way out. "I swear she worries about too much lately."
Alex started to make her way down the halls, receiving and returning salutes between a few others on her way, turning into another hall before opening the door to a room labeled 'briefing room'. She entered and closed the door behind her and saw that, as usual, there was a folder of papers waiting for her. She sat down at a table situated in the center of the room and started to read through the papers in the folder, making mental notes of some things she found interesting, putting it all neatly back in the folder and setting it down once she was done. About two minutes after she had put the papers back the door opened, Alex getting up off the chair and standing at attention, an officer and a general as well as one who looked like a scientist walking in. "At ease miss Silver, we're short on time and we need to get this meeting over with." the general said as they all sat down, the surprising rank insignia on his shoulders quite visible to Alex. "I understand this is out of the ordinary and I've heard that you're the best soldier we have available alongside another. I believe you've met him already." After the general finished speaking the officer opened the door to let someone in. The one who entered was a jackal with unusual red fur, known as Jackie who specialized in stealth and close quarters combat, being very fast on his feet and quite speedy with his hands.
"Permission to speak sir?" Alex asked after Jackie entered the room.
"Permission granted" the officer responded.
"I've read through the papers and I understand the details but I'd like to know why is this so important that a general has personally come to a mission briefing. I'd also like to know why it needs not just one but both mine and Jackie's squads."
"I was wondering about that myself to be honest." Jackie remarked as he sat down at the table as well.
Once Jackie was seated the officer started to speak. "I'll be brutally honest. This mission isn't just to get a team of lab coats out to check something, nor is it regular recon. There have been unconfirmed reports of supposedly highly armored infantry troops near a colony on a fringe planet. This is the head Sorian energy research and planetary diagnostics. He is now going to explain something."
After the the scientist who was clearly disorganized at the moment pulled out a piece of paper showing readouts from the science lab, handing it over to Jackie who soon passed it to Alex. "I know you probably don't understand what that is but that is the readings around that planet from the last 4 weeks. Those readings cover a lot of things but most importantly Sorian energy, the thing now used in about eighty-six percent of all things that need power. There was what seemed like a natural occurrence of Sorian energy on that planet but the reports the general mentioned started coming in only a day after this. If all of us at the lab are right then this could mean either someone somewhere out there has some sort of teleportation technology or something else. we're thinking tha-"
"I think that's enough of the science talk now." The officer interrupted. "We believe that this may pose some threat but we aren't sure and sending a full force would cause panic and bring unnecessary questions. Though as the good Dr here failed to mention, Sorian energy can't be found naturally so we know something is going on and we want this to go as smoothly as possible, hence you, Jackie and both squads being on this mission."
