Species Swap-Nibble
In this non-canon short story, Jason (cat) and Ellie (rabbit) mysteriously have their species swapped. Ellie finds it difficult to control her new instincts with some grim results. There are multiple versions of this story, but this is the one I like the best because it explores Ellie's experience as a cat more.
Ellie awoke and was startled to find a brown rabbit lying next to her. She leapt up and gingerly pulled down the covers to reveal its hindquarters: the rabbit was male. How had he gotten into her apartment?! And what might he have done to her? She didn't remember seeing him before. Why was that? Had she been drugged? She reached out to shake him; she'd be getting some answers if she had to beat them out of him.
Her hand looked funny. She stretched her fingers and sharp claws extended from the ends.
"What the?!" Her voice surprised her coming out in a feline yowl, and she froze.
The rabbit turned over and blinked sleepily at her before his eyes shot wide, "Who are you?!" he squealed. He froze, seeming puzzled, and rubbed his throat.
"I'm the one who should be asking that! You're in my apartment!" Ellie hissed.
He stared at her in confusion, "What are you talking about? This is Ellie's house!" He blanched, and his voice shook, "What have you done with her?"
"I am her, you dolt! Who in Tartarus are-" she stopped, noticing the familiar color of the rabbit's sea green eyes. "Jason?!" she gasped. "But how?! How can you be a rabbit?!"
"I'm a rabbit?" he asked nervously. He ran his hands up over his long ears, opened his mouth to run his tongue over his large incisors, and peered behind him at his brown and white scut. "I'm a rabbit," he repeated, bewildered. He studied her, "Ellie?"
She nodded.
"You're a cat," he murmured, still confused.
Ellie felt her pointy ears and sharp fangs and peaked at her long tail, which flipped as if by its own accord, "Seems so."
"How did this happen?!" he wailed, distraught.
Ellie reached across the bed to grasp his hand and only then noticed how much smaller he was than her: her hand dwarfed his, and she had to be careful not to crush it. "Whatever has happened, we'll figure it out, Jason. I promise you we'll get through this. Together."
Jason leaned across the bed and wrapped his arms around her middle. "I'm so scared, Ellie! I don't know anything about being a rabbit!"
Ellie pulled him up into her lap and hugged the diminutive Jason to her chest, "Don't worry; I'll help you. It's not that hard."
He reached across her arm to grasp her right hand in his, "Thank you, Ellie."
She nuzzled him between his long ears, inhaling his--his unfamiliar scent. He had a warm herbal scent like sun-warmed hay sprinkled with marjoram. Ellie felt saliva welling up under her tongue. She swallowed it but couldn't resist sniffing Jason again. Reflexively, she opened her mouth to taste his scent, and more drool spilled out onto his head.
"Ellie?" he asked in surprise. "What's going on?" He reached up and put his hand in the drool. "Yuck! What is this?!"
"You smell really good, Jason," Ellie breathed.
"You don't smell bad yourself. Cat scent kind of suits you," he jested.
"No, I mean really good, delicious."
Jason tensed up in her arms. His voice quavered fearfully, "Ellie, you have to control those instincts! Remember, I'm your friend. We buy meat at the store."
"That's true," she murmured. "But, but it can't hurt if I only lick you, just to see how you taste." She rasped her tongue across his head.
He struggled in her grasp, and she held him tighter.
"Hold still, Jason!"
"Let me go!" he cried. "Ellie! You're not used to controlling your instincts!"
"I'm not going to hurt you. Relax and hold still." She licked his head again. "Your fur just tastes like fur, Jason."
"That's a relief!"
"But you smell so good. Can't I have a little taste?"
He jerked in her arms, "Ellie!"
"Just a little nibble."
"No!"
"Don't be stingy, Jason. You'll hardly miss it."
"A chunk of my flesh?!"
"Not a chunk, just a nibble."
"It'll still hurt no matter how small the bite! Besides, what if you take more than you mean to? What if you can't stop?! You could rip me apart before you can stop yourself! I don't want to be eaten alive!"
"Relax, Jason. I promise it will be a tiny bite."
"No! I don't want you eating any part of me!"
Ellie was beginning to get irritated. He was being so stubborn and unreasonable. "Listen, Jason. You're my friend, and I don't want to fight with you. But it's not really up to you."
"It's my body!" he shouted.
"What about my body? It's telling me to put you inside me."
He jerked and kicked wildly at her admission.
"Jason, stop! I'm not going to listen to it! But I'm asking you to compromise! I won't hurt you, but I want you to let me have a little taste."
"No! This isn't an area for compromise!"
Ellie growled in frustration, "Listen, Jason. I'm being more than fair. You could live without an arm, but I'm only going to take a small bite. It will heal. You'll be fine. Stop being so stubborn and agree Or I'll take a bite whether you agree or not, and if you fight me, I won't take the blame if it's bigger than I meant!" She reached her right hand up around his throat. "Now, I'm going to lie you down, and you can decide where you want the bite to come from."
"Ellie, please don't," he whimpered.
"I've made up my mind, Jason. You can cooperate or not."
She dragged him off of her lap by the neck and pushed him down onto the bed on his back. Keeping her right hand firmly on his neck, she ran her left over his arms, torso, and legs feeling the firm muscles beneath the skin. She swallowed her drool, so much fresh meat. But I'm only going to take a small bite! she reminded herself. Jason trembled as she leaned in to smell his tempting scent: the added tinge of fear excited her feral instincts. She would devour the terrified prey. Its trembling form would fill her belly giving her energy, power. No! Just a tiny bite!
"Have you decided where you want me to take a bite, Jason?"
He looked back at her, tears running down the sides of his face, "If you're going to eat me, then please kill me first. I don't want to feel your teeth ripping the flesh off my bones," he whimpered.
"Jason! I'm not going to eat you! Just one tiny bite, I promise! It will hurt, I know, but you'll recover. You'll still be alive!"
He sobbed, "How can I trust you, Ellie? You're going to take a bite out of me!"
She stroked his head. "One tiny bite. Then I won't ever ask again, I promise."
"Just do it then. I don't care where. It'll be horrible regardless."
Ellie surveyed his trembling body. His legs stood out to her as a good source of meat. She could take a small bite, and he'd still have plenty of muscle left. Still holding him down by his neck, she pulled up his right leg to reveal the meatier underside and leaned down to reach her teeth around his firm flesh. Jason whimpered again, but Ellie ignored him. He'd be okay; she was only going to have a taste.
She bit down and three things happened. First, Jason let out an ear-piercing squeal. Second, hot, tangy blood flooded across her tongue, and third she realized that tearing through raw flesh was a lot harder than bitting a raw carrot. She bit down harder and pulled her head back to tear away a hunk of skin and muscle. Jason's wordless screams intensified, but Ellie was overwhelmed by the tender, savory flavor that danced across her tongue. How can he taste even better than he smells?! She tried to hold the flesh in her mouth to gnaw at it and enjoy it longer, but she couldn't resist gulping it down. She looked back at the leg. Blood was pouring out of the ragged wound, but what she noticed was how much more meat there still was. He can spare a little more. She leaned back in to take another bite.
"Ellie! You promised!" Jason screamed, agony and terror making his voice shrill.
"Hush, one more bite won't kill you."
"I told you! I told you you wouldn't be able to stop!" he screamed. "Kill me! Kill me before you eat me alive!"
If he's dead you can eat as much as you want. Ellie felt his blood pulsing through his neck beneath her right hand. She started to squeeze to cut it off. No! She couldn't kill her friend! She let go of him and pulled away.
"One bite. That's what I promised."
Jason sobbed. "It hurts, Ellie. Please, I need medical attention."
She went and called for an ambulance and then returned to the bedroom where Jason was lying with a pillow case tied around his leg, a crimson blood stain seeping through the mauve case.
"I-I'm sorry, Jason. I shouldn't have done that, but I couldn't resist. You smelled so tasty!"
Jason looked at her dourly, "I know you couldn't control yourself. I tried to warn you." He sighed. "You'd better leave before they arrive. I won't tell them who did this to me, but if they see you with blood around your mouth, they're going to arrest you."
"Wh-where should I go?"
"Anywhere, just not here. I won't tell them it was you, but you need to get some help before something like this happens again. And it will happen again if you don't learn how to control your instincts."
Ellie nodded resignedly, "I'll get help. Thank you, Jason." She left the apartment and jogged to a nearby park. People kept giving her fearful looks and hurrying away. It's weird being a cat. Then she remembered what Jason had said, "blood around your mouth." Shit! She hurried to a drinking fountain and quickly washed her fur around her mouth. She tried to see her reflection in the stainless steel: she didn't think there was any left. She wiped away the water with her hand, licked it, and then wiped again; grooming herself seemed to come naturally.
Once her face was clean and dry, she only needed to be concerned with the fact that she wasn't wearing any clothes. It wasn't a huge deal, but people would think she couldn't afford them. There was a small clothing store she'd gone to before a few blocks away. She made her way over. Inside, she realized she didn't know her size or whether they even carried it. She looked around for a sales rep, and spotted a fox squirrel over by the changing stall. She waved to her, and she scurried over.
"What can I help you with, Ma'am?" she asked urgently.
Ellie was a bit taken aback by her manner. Maybe it really was different being a cat. "I'm not sure what my size it," Ellie told her embarrassedly.
"No problem, Ma'am! I'll just take a few measurements."
The squirrel whipped out a measuring tape and quickly began taking Ellie's measurements. Ellie noticed she seemed nervous to touch her, hovering over her with the tape.
"Right! I believe we have just the thing!" she led Ellie over to a wrack of clothes.
The first thing Ellie noticed was that they were all black. The squirrel selected a distressed long sleeved blouse with flared sleeves and a fitted middle.
Ellie blinked. "I want something nice I can wear to work."
"Oh!"
"Do you have a white, short-sleeved blouse with a collar and buttons in my size?"
The squirrel nodded, "Right this way." She led her to another rack and selected a shirt for Ellie to try. Ellie put it on: the fit seemed correct.
"Very nice, Ma'am."
"Can I ask you a question?"
"S-sure!"
"Why did you assume I'd want something like that? Is it because I'm a cat or-"
"N-no, Ma'am. I just thought you looked like the, the rough sort of type."
Ellie gave her a quizzical look, "Why?"
"W-well, if you don't mind my mentioning it, Ma'am. Your fur is rather messy, a-and you've been keeping your claws out. So I just thought."
"Oh!" Ellie retracted her claws. She'd have to get used to that. "Sorry, I, uh, got out of bed quickly this morning. I didn't have time to brush my fur."
"No, I'm sorry, Ma'am. I shouldn't have assumed." She paused. "Do you like that? Do you want to look more?"
"This is good for now, thanks." Ellie took off the blouse, and went to the register.
The cashier, a white rabbit, scanned the shirt and then her left hand. She looked up at her in confusion, "Ellie Bennett?"
"That's me."
"We have you here as a rabbit."
Ellie hesitated. They wouldn't believe her if she told them the truth, so she'd have to lie. "There must be some error. As you can see, I'm a cat."
The rabbit peered at her hand. "I don't see where you could have cut out your chip and put in someone else's."
"That's because I didn't. I am Ellie Bennett."
The rabbit shrugged, "First time I've ever seen an error like that." She approved the order on the screen. "Have a nice day, Ellie."
"You too." Ellie left the store and contemplated where she could go now. She'd go see Tom. She could be honest with him about what had happened. Maybe he'd know where she could get help with her new instincts. Her stomach growled. But first she would go buy something to eat.
She made her way down the street. She knew there were carnivore-focused restaurants around though of course she'd never been to one. After a couple blocks, the smell of cooking meat caught her nose, and she looked around, spotting a sign reading 'Lynx's Grill'. Elie quickly proceeded to the restaurant and pushed her way inside. The smell of cooking meat washed over her, and she began to salivate instantly. Her stomach growled.
A black cat in a red tie approached her, "How many?"
"Just me."
"We're having our brunch buffet right now. Would you like that or a menu?"
"I'll have the buffet," Ellie answered eagerly.
The black cat showed her to her table in the dimly lit restaurant. The two seat table was black as were the other tables and chairs. The floor was carpeted with soft black carpet, and the walls were painted dark gray. Red conical lamps hung from the black ceiling, and half of them were lit with red tinted lights. Ellie quickly made her way to the buffet and stared hungrily at the assortment of meat: sausage, ham, bacon, steaks, chicken fillets, even a small pan of meat simply labeled 'Rabbit'. Ellie grabbed a plate and piled it with everything except the rabbit, which she felt a bit weird about after having been a rabbit and having tried the real thing. She returned to her table and ate ravenously, tearing at the cooked flesh with her sharp teeth was easier than it had been biting a chunk out of Jason's leg, and she made short work of the pile. She got up for another plate and noticed a male bobcat in a black tank top gawking at her.
"Do you need something?" she asked.
He shook his head vigorously. "Just, that was incredible. I don't think I've ever seen anyone dig into a plate of meat like that. It was like you haven't eaten in a week."
"I'm hungry," Ellie cut back defensively.
"No offense! I thought it was amazing!"
Ellie smirked. "I was a herbivore yesterday, so this is my first chance." She intended the bobcat to take it as a joke, and he did, laughing in response.
"Haha, well, that explains it. I guess the mouse was anxious to try cat food for the first time."
"Mice aren't herbivores," Ellie corrected. "I was a rabbit."
"Erm, okay," he didn't seem to like being corrected.
"I'm getting another plate," Ellie explained lightly. "Care to join me?"
He ginned, "Okay." He got up and followed her to the buffet bar.
Again, Ellie piled her plate with everything except the rabbit.
The bobcat noticed, "Dude, you've got to try the rabbit. It's superb."
Dude? Ellie quickly glanced down: fortunately, she hadn't randomly turned into a tom. "I'm, uh, not really in the mood for it," she stated.
"No, you have to try it. It's the best I've ever had. I heard they developed a new growth medium to give it the right flavor. Before it always tasted like chicken."
Ellie couldn't tell him the real reasons she didn't want to try it, and she didn't want to seem like a weirdo for not trying the new improved formula. She took a small piece. The bobcat got some more of the rabbit himself and followed her to her table. Ellie began eating again, carefully avoiding the rabbit. With a plate of meat already in her belly, she took the time to savor the salty and savory flavors. Meat certainly was delicious. It was too bad she couldn't stand the smell as a rabbit, or she might have tried it sooner. However, a tiny part of her couldn't help think that it wasn't quite as delicious as Jason's warm flesh had been. She tried to push aside the thought. That could never happen again.
"You haven't tried the rabbit yet," the bobcat remarked.
Ellie paused in her eating and eyed the small piece of meat. Was she going to have to try it just to get this guy to stop asking? Why do I even care what he thinks? She looked up at him, and he smiled encouragingly. Ellie felt a little rush of giddiness as her heart palpitated. Oh! She hadn't made a conscious note of it before, but he was extremely attractive. I'm attracted to cats now too? She'd worry about the implications of that later. She jabbed the piece of rabbit with her fork and raised it to her mouth. The bobcat nodded eagerly. She popped the piece of meat into her mouth, carefully chewed, and swallowed. She shrugged.
"Wasn't it amazing?! They say it tastes so much like the real thing!" he exclaimed.
"It doesn't taste anything like the real thing," Ellie corrected peevishly. All that fuss over another piece of meat? She had still barely been able to tell it from the chicken.
The bobcat gave her a curious look, "You don't think so?"
"No! The real thing is way better than that! It's so tender and, er," she paused, realizing her mistake. There was no way she should have known what the real thing was like. "So I've heard anyway," she added quickly.
"It sounded to me like you've actually tried it," the bobcat replied interestedly. "I've heard it's possible to get your hands on it if you know the right people, but-"
"I don't know anything about that!" Ellie interjected. "It's only what I've heard!"
He shrugged, "Okay." He didn't seem convinced.
Ellie finished eating, and went to the front to pay. The bobcat followed her. The black cat scanned her left hand but then paused, looking at the screen in confusion.
"Ellie Bennett?"
"Yes, that's me."
"It says here you're a rabbit."
Ellie sighed. Damned technology. "I've been getting that error. Obviously, I'm a cat."
The black cat shrugged and approved the payment. Next he scanned the bobcat's hand.
"What's it say?" the bobcat asked.
"Kieth Milman, bobcat, 31."
"All correct."
"It must be isolated to my chip then," Ellie said testily.
The black cat shrugged.
Ellie turned and marched to the door. The bobcat followed her out into the bright sunlight.
"Heheh, it's so weird how you got that error after you joked about having been a rabbit," he chuckled.
Ellie turned to glare at him, "I said I've been getting it. That's why I picked rabbit."
"Oh, I guess that ma-" he paused and stared into her eyes. "Are your eyes brown?"
Ellie frowned, "They are."
"Sorry, I've just never seen a cat with brown eye bef-" his amber eyes opened wide. "Wait a minute! Are your pupils round?!"
Ellie shifted her feet nervously. To think of it, Jason had still had vertical pupils. Why hadn't she thought about how weird that was? "I, uh-"
"What are you?!" he demanded. "You said rabbit. The computer said rabbit. You look like a cat except, except those aren't a cat's eyes!"
Ellie wondered if she should just make a run for it. He was getting freaked out and causing a scene. "They're, uh, contacts," she tried.
"Take them out then!"
"No."
"Take them out!"
"Okay, they're not contacts! This is just how my eyes look, how they've always looked!"
The bobcat eyed her suspiciously, "What are you? Some kind of alien? You tried to look like us, but you fucked up the eyes?!"
"Alien?! That's absurd!"
"What are you then," he growled. "Cuz you ain't no cat."
"Leave me alone!" Ellie shouted. She turned and raced down the sidewalk.
Fortunately, the bobcat didn't give chase, and she soon was able to slow. I should go talk to Tom now. Ellie caught the bus and rode to the police station, running around to the coroner's office on the other side.
She was greeted inside by an otter in pale green scrubs, "Hi, Ma'am, do you need something?"
"Can I speak with Dr. Fitzgerald?"
"He's in the morgue right now. You'll have to wait unless it's an emergency."
"It is!"
The otter nodded, got up, and went into the other room. After a minute, Tom emerged.
"What is it, Ma'am?"
"Let's talk in your office, Tom."
The ferret paused and blinked, "Do I know you?"
"In your office," she repeated.
Tom nodded slowly and led her into his office. She closed the door behind them.
"So what do-"
"Tom! It's me, Ellie!"
He looked confused, "Ellie who?"
"Look at my markings, my eyes!"
He examined her, and his eyes shot wide, "Ellie?! But, but-"
"I know! I'm a cat! I woke up like this this morning!"
"I don't see how that's po-"
"That's only half of it! Jason is a rabbit!"
The ferret gawked at her, "Wha-at? He's a- Wait, where is he then?!"
Ellie winced, "He's at the hospital."
"What?! Why?"
"I, uh, I took a bite out of him," she admitted ashamedly.
Tom stared at her in horror. "E-Ellie, that's, that's horrible! How could you?! Is he okay?!"
"He'll be alright. It wasn't a big bite," she clarified quickly.
"Still! To take a bite out of him! That's terrible! Do you think he or I or, or even Lily would have taken a bite out of you?!"
Ellie shook her head, "I know it was bad, but I couldn't help myself. He smelled so tasty."
Tom shook his head, "So now what? Are you on the run or something? Not a very smart place to come if you are."
"N-no! Jason said he wouldn't say who'd bitten him. He won't press charges. He knows I couldn't control my instincts. That's why, why I hoped you could help me learn how."
"That's a full time job, Ellie. I don't have time to teach you years worth of control techniques. You need to go to a professional."
"Do you know any?"
He shook his head, "I've heard of them, but they are for kids. I don't know whether you'll be able to find anyone who will take an adult who hasn't had a day of instruction."
"Then what can I do?!" Ellie cried in distress.
Tom shrugged. "Maybe you'll just have to figure it out on your own. It's just a matter of self-control."
Ellie looked down despondently. She'd thought Tom would be more help, but he'd been more angry at what she'd done than willing to help her. "Okay," she muttered. "Bye, Tom."
"Bye, Ellie," he replied coolly.
She turned and slunk back outside. He hates me now. She had hurt his best friend. Still, she'd hoped he would be more understanding. Ellie made her way back home, but when she got to the apartment complex, there were still police cars in her parking lot. Shit! It seemed the police were determined to find her even if Jason hadn't told them who'd bitten him. She quickly turned and went back the way she'd come from downtown. Where could she go? The only person who understood what she was going though and didn't blame her for what had happened was Jason, but he might still be in the hospital. On the other hand, he might have been patched up and released by now. Ellie decided to make her way to his house. It might be the only place other than a hotel where she could go to get a roof over her head for the night.
By bus and by foot, Ellie made her way to Jason's house. When she got there, his car wasn't in the driveway, but it might still be at her building if he'd gotten home another way. She rang the doorbell, but no one answered. Shit. Maybe he was still in the hospital. She went around back to check for another way in. She noticed one of the upstairs windows was open. She glanced around to make sure no one was looking and then made a powerful leap. She ripped through the screen with her claws, and, grabbing it, pulled it down with her. She landed nimbly on her feet. Being a cat certainly had its physical advantages. She quickly glanced around again before leaping up again and grabbing the windowsill to drag herself inside. She slid in and landed on the royal blue carpet of the bedroom. She stood up and shut the window behind her before looking around.
"Jason," she called.
There was no reply. I guess he really isn't back yet. Ellie went down to the living room to wait. Having nothing to do, she eventually fell asleep on the dark blue futon.
Ellie was awoken by the sound of a car pulling into the driveway. She peered out the front bay window and saw her own silver compact car. I guess Jason had some trouble driving his. Ellie didn't mind; she was just pleased that he was here. He climbed out and made his way to the door. If he had a limp, it didn't seem severe. Ellie was glad she hadn't seriously hurt him. She heard him unlock the door, and he swung it open and stepped inside.
"You're here!" Ellie trilled happily. "I'm so glad you're okay!"
Jason jumped in surprise, took one look at her, and turned to bolt back through the door. Ellie's delight turned to sudden rage. Where does he think he's going?! She leapt off of the futon and raced after him. Jason's leg was indeed slowing him down; his limp while he ran was much more noticeable. Ellie caught up to him before he reached the end of the driveway and grabbed him around the middle with both arms.
"Help!" he shrieked.
Ellie quickly covered his mouth with one of her hands, "Shh! Don't be an idiot, Jason!"
She dragged him back inside and kicked the door shut with a slam. Standing between him and the door, she released him, and he scrambled away a few steps. Ellie had to restrain herself from racing forward to grab him again.
"What was that all about, Jason?" she demanded angrily.
He looked at her fearfully and whimpered, "What are you doing here? I thought you were going to get help."
"Tom wouldn't help me, and I don't know where else to go. The only other predator I talked to saw my eyes and thought I was a freak. You're the only person who understands what's going on."
Jason swallowed, "So you didn't come to, to finish the job?"
Confused, "Finish the job?"
"To finish e-eating me," he whined.
Ellie clenched her fists and growled, "Eat you?"
She stalked forward angrily, and Jason scrambled backward until he collided with the futon and tipped over onto it. Ellie dashed forward and grabbed him by the neck.
"Maybe you'd like me to eat you," she growled.
"N-no!"
"You suggested it," she snarled. "How many times do I need to apologize?"
"I-I'm sorry!"
"If I say I won't hurt you again, then I won't! Got it?!"
"Y-yes, Ellie!"
She sniffed and released him, and he scrambled off of the futon to stand beside it.
"Why didn't you go back to your own apartment?" he asked nervously.
"The police were still there," she grumbled. "So I came to stay with my friend, and what does he do when he sees me? Runs like I'm some kind of monster."
"I-I'm sorry, Ellie."
"Come here," she demanded.
"W-why?"
"I need you to prove you trust me."
Jason hesitated, and Ellie narrowed her eyes. He swallowed and then crept up to her. Ellie pulled him in against her. Holding him tightly, chest-to-chest, she turned her head to the side, opening her jaws, and reached them around his neck. He let out a sob and trembled in her grasp. Ellie held her teeth at his throat a few seconds and then released him.
"Still alive?" she growled.
"Y-yes."
"Now you know I won't hurt you," she concluded.
He pressed his nose into her chest fur, "I'm sorry, Ellie. I shouldn't have run. I should have known you wouldn't hurt me."
Ellie reached up her left hand to stroke his head. "I forgive you, Jason."
"I forgive you too, Ellie, for biting me. I know you couldn't resist. I don't blame you for not being ready for urges you'd never imagined before."
"Tom wasn't so understanding," Ellie said glumly. "He was very angry."
"I'll have a word with him. But I could never stay angry with you, Ellie. I love you."
Ellie was taken aback by his admission, "Jason! You love me?!"
"I do, Ellie. I love you so much it hurts. You don't have to feel the same, but-"
"I do, Jason! I love you too!" She hugged him tight.
"Ellie, you don't know how happy that makes me! Cat, rabbit, it doesn't matter. As long as we can hold each other close, I know everything will be alright."
Ellie squeezed him with both arms and nuzzled his head, breathing in his delicious scent. No, no longer delicious, the warm scent of her precious friend. For the very first time, she purred, her chest swelling with affection. Jason nuzzled her chest, relaxed contentedly in her arms. He was right: it didn't matter what species they were, whether they were predator or prey. All that mattered was that they were together.
