Ok, so I was able to find out a bit more about the project.
Firstly, I found that my coworkers don't like me coming into the laboratory unannounced. I got yelled at and told to return to my office. Since they were being uncooperative, I tried rummaging around on the company file storage cloud to find some information.
To my surprise, they actually put a lot of useful information on here, so I'll go through the fundamentals now.
So, I already mentioned the whole 'donor system', and now I know a bit more about it. Basically, when someone donates themselves for 'enhancement', they are essentially signing up to die. Mentally, not physically. Yeah, it's confusing, but let me explain.
The enhancement process results in all neural data being lost, so basically the donor loses all memory. This means that we have to 'teach' the donor everything they need to know about life, which we do via uploading a pre-made bank of information provided by the government. This includes motor, cognitive and sensory skills, as well as the teaching of basic mathematics, english, geography, history, science and personal development. They are essentially taught over 10 years worth of schooling curriculum in less than a week. It takes about 6 days to upload all of this information, by the way.
Another thing that I should probably note in this log is the appearance changes of these newly enhanced hybrids.
So, to start with, they don't have a face. At least not the same face they used to have. Personally I think that this is a pretty sad thing. I mean, we are basically taking away the most differentiating part of these people. The government didn't say that we had to do this, but it was highly advised. Something about not wanting soldiers to show any weakness through emotion.
Replacing the face is a curved screen, capable of displaying simple emotions via monochrome pre-determined expressions. The ears have also been removed and replaced by two triangular antennas, connected to the facial display via a circular hinge. This allows the facial display to be opened, under which we have placed the vital computational equipment such as the CPU and storage devices. The head is still the main control centre of the donor.
We have left most of the outstanding features of the donor intact to keep them distinguishable to others, and most of the original fur on the donor has been kept or reused to hide the seams between the mechanical parts and the biological organism.
The only external things that we have changed on the main body and limbs are the joints between body parts, for example the shoulder, elbow, hip and knee. According to the guys in charge of designing these hybrids, the whole cybernetic organism is customisable and modular within reason. I don't know exactly what this means, but I assume that they just mean that you can't replace legs with arms, tail with head and what-not.
Oh yeah, they keep the tails too apparently.
Maurice just came in, I'll continue in my next log.
