Territorial

Cat moods can be all-consuming sometimes. When Wyatt's in one of those moods, it's only natural to feel threatened by the presence of another cat.

A short little gift for pogoco25 !

Wyatt was in one of those cat moods.

He thundered through the apartment, sprinting as fast as he could and leaping clean over the couch, only to kick off the wall and leap back over the couch and sprint back to the front door and stare out the window.

He breathed heavily, all three of his eyes dilated, and then repeated, running as fast as he could around his empty living space and jumping over every obstacle that opposed him, if only to prove to the objects themselves that he was master in this domain, and that none could oppose him.

Something stopped him dead in his tracks. Something that made his blood run cold and his heartbeat quicken.

Another cat. An intruder. An ENEMY.

Standing just outside the front window. In the dim light, he could make out his expression. Wide-eyed, ferocious.

Wyatt felt his fur begin to stand on end. His entire body seemed to grow in size as he puffed up, eyes widening further as the intruder mirrored his action.

How? How?? How could this OTHER CAT think that this was HIS territory to intrude upon???

Wyatt was ANGRY. He was furious! To be threatened in his own home, that he had just asserted his ownership of!

He stared deep into the other cat's eyes. They, too, had grey fur, and they stared back at him in equal ferocity.

The nerve. The fucking nerve!

Without a shred of mercy, Wyatt lit his eyes up in a mesmerizing display of his hypnotic prowess. They swirled with orange spirals, and he knew he'd won as soon as he saw them mirrored in the intruder's-

Oh no. Wyatt could feel it. An outside influence. The intruder hadn't instantly succumbed to his hypnotic powers - he'd activated his own.

Oh no. Oh FUCK.

Wyatt lit his eyes up brighter, leaning into the window, determined to prove that it was his house to live in, and that NO OTHER CAT could have a home here. He strained with effort as he felt his own mind beginning to slip.

He wouldn't be defeated, he repeated to himself as drool began to run down his chin. The cat's eyes were so deep. Swirling pools of orange that drew him in and made his head spin. He was beginning to forget why he was fighting in the first place.

He had to snap out of it, he thought desperately to himself as he felt his shoulders relax.

He was drooling a lot more now, and swaying gently, following the intruder's own gentle rhythm.

He was losing. He was almost gone, almost defeated. His mind was quickly fogging up, like he was wading deeper and deeper into water and soon he'd have no choice but to relax and float and let it take him where it would.

He blinked, slowly, a sure sign of weakness. He could barely remember why he had to prove himself now, his mind so full of static as it was. He could barely remember anything.

Was this his fate? To be conquered by another cat? To have his territory invaded, and taken from him?

No- No! This was his domain! His territory! His birthright!

In an incredible second wind, his horns glowed brightly with color, and he took a step forward, psychically projecting his will as hard as he could muster against the intruder. One blow to crush their resolve completely.

The window exploded into shards of glass, and Wyatt jolted out of his hypnotic trance in surprise.

There was nobody outside the window. In his newfound awareness, he realized that the intruder looked a lot like his reflection.

"Oh fuck." He said, as he realized what happened. "Oh fuck. I'm so fucking stupid."

He collapsed onto the couch, in disbelief that he'd once again let his cat moods cause damage to property again - and his property, no less. There he sat in anguish, lamenting that once again, he was the greatest enemy to himself and his domain.

Hoofsteps.

Lenti, his roommate, appeared on the other side of the door, and after a minute to fumble with his keys, opened it up. He was looking at the broken glass in mild surprise, and frowned at Wyatt as he shut the door behind him.

"Hey, uhh, what happened to the window?" He asked, setting down his things and peering at the damage.

"...Neighbor kids playing baseball." Wyatt lied, expertly.

"...But the glass is all outside the apartment?" Lenti questioned, slowly, almost hesitantly.

In an instant, Wyatt flared his psychic abilities up once more, the sheep's horns resonating with his power and turning his mind to mush in moments. A thin string of drool touched the floor before Wyatt spoke.

"It was the neighbor kids playing baseball." He lied, expertly.

"Gosh..." The airheaded sheep responded, staring blankly at the floor. "That's... unfortunate..."

"It is." Wyatt said, satisfied, then paused to think. "Also, uhh, your turn to do the trash this week, don't forget."

Lenti nodded. "That's ...right. Thank you..."

He shuffled off to do the trash, as he had every week since he'd moved in.

Wyatt looked up at the ceiling, feeling slightly more guilty than he had moments before.

"Hey Lenti." He said.

"Mhm?" The sheep mumbled.

"Good boy."

A little blissful bleat came in response.

Okay, they were even.
