Hypnovember 2023 - Day 10: Confidence (Claimed by Kodi)
#10 of Hypnovember 2023
Errol isn't enjoying the party. Fortunately for him, it looks like a handsome wolf has different plans for him.
This one was claimed by Kodi (https://twitter.com/Blu_Kodiak), featuring Blunder's (https://twitter.com/Fauxpawe) character Errol.
Errol enjoyed parties, but lately he was getting into the routine of attending some he wasn't that interested in just to do a favor to his friends.
He'd spent the last hour chatting with a jaguar who, although handsome, had the dullest conversation he'd ever been caught for. Errol was at the point where he couldn't simply walk away without a good excuse or the fact that he was being bored to death would be too obvious. And in spite of being such an uninteresting talk, Errol was pretty sure the guy he was talking with wasn't an asshole. He didn't want to hurt his feelings or anything.
He nodded absent-mindedly at everything the other guy said, trying his best to pretend he was paying attention when, in reality, he was mostly focusing on everything else going on in the room. That was why when the door opened and the black wolf walked in his eyes were immediately drawn to him.
It wasn't only that the wolf was attractive. Sure, he had an imposing physique, with his broad shoulders half covered by a blue scarf - why was he even wearing a scarf to begin with? It was still warm outside - and the black, smooth fur that covered his body from head to toes, except for the few inches of his strong chest that were exposed. That and the fur growing from the lower part of his long, thick tail were a clearer silver tone.
But looks aside, there was something to him. It might have been the way he walked through the room as if he owned it. His yellow eyes glanced from one attendant to another like he was picking a partner to... to what? To hunt? To play with? Errol felt his mind running with wild ideas that sent a fuzzy feeling up his cheeks.
And then the wolf's gaze fell on him and he looked away meekly, hoping he hadn't been caught staring at him.
That was a good thing, because apparently the jaguar he'd been chatting with was beginning to look slightly irritated.
"Hey, are you listening to me?"
"Y-yeah! Sorry, I get easily distracted," Errol answered with a nervous smile.
The kitsune tried his best to keep his eyes on the jaguar in front of him. However, he couldn't help but notice the wolf was walking their way.
"Yeah, no kidding," the jaguar said with a raised eyebrow. "I'm going to get a beer. Want one?"
"Uh, no. I'm fine," Errol answered.
The jaguar sighed and walked away, not before glancing at the passing wolf in annoyance. Errol waited there in his corner until it became apparent that the newcomer was walking right towards him. As soon as the wolf noticed the kitsune was looking back at him, a smug grin appeared on his face.
"Feeling lonely?" he asked as he stood next to Errol. He was several inches taller, which forced the kitsune to look up.
They didn't know each other. So why was the wolf addressing him so directly? What did he want from him?
A shiver went through the kitsune's spine as he had an idea of what it could be.
"Uh, hm, well," he managed to say. "I was just... chatting to someone."
"That guy?" the wolf asked. He tilted his head. "He looked nice. What was his name?"
Errol blushed.
"I... I don't really know."
"Huh. Is that so? Maybe he was less nice than I thought."
Errol wanted to answer, but he didn't know what to say. The wolf was still grinning, and he was definitely standing closer to him than he had anticipated. How can he be so cocky? he thought. Much to his dismay, he didn't know if that made him annoyed or irremediably flustered.
"Name's Kodi, by the way," the wolf introduced himself.
"Errol," he whispered.
"Do you know what I think, Errol?" Kodi asked then, stepping closer to the blushing kitsune.
"W-what?"
"I think you're looking awful lonely here all by yourself. I think you could use some... company."
Errol gulped. The wolf's muscled frame was slightly intimidating, so he instinctively stepped back, trying to put some distance between them. His back touched the wall and he realized he'd been properly cornered.
"I... well..."
What could he really say? That the company he had right in front of him seemed the right choice to spend some time? He wasn't that confident! Perhaps that smug wolf could pull something like that off, but Errol certainly couldn't.
"Er, I think I might enjoy that, yes," he ended up saying, his paws holding to the wall behind him as if he needed something to lean onto.
The wolf chuckled softly and placed an arm on the wall, lowering his head until his eyes met Errol's.
"Well," Kodi said, his voice lowering down to a teasing growl for a second. "That makes two of us. Shall we go somewhere... private and fix things, hmm?"
Errol felt his grip slipping on the wall, the wolf's warm breath softly caressing his face. Why couldn't he stop looking into those eyes? They seemed to be piercing straight into his brain.
"Isn't this... too straightforward?" he made the effort to ask.
Kodi chuckled again. The sound seemed to come from deep beneath his chest.
"I like straightforward. When I want something, I let it know." His yellow eyes gleamed mysteriously. "So now that I've let you know, what do you say?"
Errol managed to break away from the wolf's magnetic gaze and looked around the room. Some people were looking their way, but most of them were pretending not to see what was going on in their corner. He was thankful for that, at least.
His cheeks felt so warm that they must have been burning.
"I was..." Errol cleared his throat, his eyes coming back to meet Kodi's enticing stare. "I was waiting for the other guy..."
"And do you want to keep on waiting?" the wolf asked, tilting his head. It sounded like a genuine question.
However, it helped Errol understand the answer was a 'no'. He shook his head.
"Come along, then." The wolf's firm paw closed around his wrist gently and took it away from the wall. "There's this empty room we can keep chatting in. I'm pretty sure you'd enjoy that."
"Y-yeah..." Errol answered, still feeling pretty perplex at how fast everything was going.
Perhaps I was wrong, he thought as he followed the big wolf down the corridors, attracting a few jealous glances from other people. Perhaps these parties are not so bad after all.
