At thirty paces from his door, Kodi could tell his home was being rummaged through. Again.

He could tell his lock had been picked, and the door was just a millimetre ajar. He noticed details like that.

Something about his home, being as close as it was to Icarus' Skydock, made it a prime target for pirates and thieves looking for an easy score on their way in or out. His house wasn't even that nice, aside from its century-old facade. And he didn't keep anything valuable there anyway.

The steel-blue wolfdog rolled his yellow eyes and sighed, reaching into his shoulder-bag and removing his work goggles. He strapped them over his face as he came to the door, whistling nonchalantly (and quite loudly) as he swung it open.

He heard the footsteps, caught a glimpse of a bare blue rabbit foot just ducking out of sight across the hall. There were a good few hiding spots in the dining area. Particularly the decoys the wolfdog had left here and there. There was a very spacious cabinet in one corner that only had a couple of coats hanging up in it. The perfect hiding place for someone who didn't know how used to burglaries their owner was.

Kodi kicked off his boots as he made his way towards that cabinet. He needed to keep a safe enough distance, of course - there was no telling if the brigand was armed, or, for that matter, ready to strike as soon as the door opened.

He turned the lenses of his goggles clockwise. A soft click brought them to humming life, allowing him to confirm that, yes, there was an outline of a warm figure - definitely a rabbit - curled inside. From the smeared shape of body heat, it didn't look as though they were armed. Still...

He turned the dial on the goggles over another level, and saw a tell tale swirl at the peripheries of his vision. From there, he took a curved walking stick from the corner, one that was there as an ornament more than anything else. He hooked it around the door, and then swung it wide.

The other door burst open as the blue-furred rabbit leapt out with a yell. He was quite imposingly tall - it was surprising he even fit. He was dressed quite finely for a thief, too, with a rakish black coat that matched his shaggy mane of hair, and a crisp white cravat, the sort a captain of a ship might wear. He had a serrated cutlass with a sapphire hilt at the ready, too, and his blue eyes were fixated on Kodi's.

His expression was set and focused... but only for a moment. As he stared into Kodi's eyes - and the swirling patterns of orange and yellow flowing through the goggles' lenses - his face visibly relaxed into one of confused fascination.

"Put that down, please," Kodi said, his voice low and soft, his paws raised and outstretched. "You don't need it."

"Hnnh..?" the rabbit grunted, his eyebrows knitting inwards before relaxing again, slowly blinking as his eyes took on a slightly dull, glazed sheen.

"Put it down," Kodi repeated. And the rabbit obeyed this time. The cutlass slipped from his hand and vanished in a little crackle of electric light that made Kodi jump slightly. But he didn't interrupt his eye contact with the thief, taking a step closer. The rabbit remained still, fascinated by the warm beams of colour bathing his face.

Kodi smiled.

"Thank you. Breathe deep and relax. You have nothing to fear. You're safe. Enjoy the warm colours. You like how they make you feel?"

The rabbit nodded stiffly, his mouth hanging a little wider open.

"Now, tell me, friend, what brought you here? What were you looking to steal?"

He waited patiently for the rabbit to slowly inhale and sigh out his response.

"The... Stratolabe..."

"Oh, my latest invention!" Kodi smiled. "Word travels fast, hmm? And I presume you were looking to steal a spare key to my workshop so you could pilfer those plans and sell them to the highest bidder?"

"Not... necessarily."

By now, Kodi was craning his neck to stare up at the tall, blue, and handsome thief. The enthralled rabbit's face was completely bathed in the ebbing and flowing orange and yellow, so deeply entranced by them that he didn't seem to be aware that he was salivating.

"Well, it doesn't matter all that much now, does it. Now, I want you to listen very closely to me... I would like to employ your services."

"What sort...?" the rabbit asked curiously - not that there was any doubt he'd refuse.

Kodi grinned. He hadn't quite decided yet.

Kodi's eyes were starting to hurt a little from squinting through a magnifying lens at the tiny, delicate pieces of metal. He reared up from his hunched position with a groan, switching off the electric lamp just overhead. He reached down between his legs to ruffle the rabbit's dark hair as his head bobbed up and down on his cock.

"Good Pet," Kodi murmured idly, closing his eyes and allowing himself to really focus on that warmth around his shaft. He rested his hands on the edge of the workbench and thrust against the rabbit's mouth, his canine knot pushing against the plaything's lips.

Kodi looked down. Even in the darkness, he could see the light swirling in the goggles on the rabbit's dazed face. It was easy to reverse the direction on a fresh pair of goggles, and that kept Pet nice and docile.

Kodi admired himself in the mirror, holding the lapels and tugging them down a bit. That, paired with the cravat... he'd almost consider going out to a dance with this.

The naked rabbit padded into view alongside him and sat down on all fours, staring up at him with nothing but love in his blank eyes. The goggles were no longer needed at this point, his mind well and truly lathed free of any of that old extraneous personality.

Kodi reached down to scritch Pet's head, and he whimpered and wriggled with visible pleasure.

"I've got something for you, too," Kodi crooned. The deadstock cloth left over from the amendments to fit Kodi's smaller form was more than enough to make a nice, tightly knotted cord - a perfect leash.

Not that this plaything was ever leaving the house - he was an indoor pet, nothing more than that.

He walked towards the bedroom, and Pet hewed close to him, an awkward loping gait on all fours. As soon as the bed was in eyeshot, he clicked his tongue and pointed to it. Kodi looked at the rabbit, then looked at his newly tailored coat.

"Huh." he chuckled. "Didn't know I was in the presence of a celebrity... not that it matters. That's your old life. This one's way better, isn't it?"

"Rrrrrarrrf..." Pet agreed, pushing against Kodi for good measure.

Kodi was expecting that answer. And he had absolutely no intention of reporting 'Captain Zender's presence in his house to the authorities. Besides, like this, he certainly wouldn't be pilfering from anyone ever again. What could be the harm?
