The next morning, Benny was sat at the table with an envelope held within his fingers as he looked over at the other side where Jimzo was sat, staring at him with a concerned look. "Are you sure?" The cheetah asked. Benny nodded his head silently as Jimzo looked glum, his paws caressing a warm mug in between his paws as he gave a soft sigh. "Well I suppose you know best, they didn't really invite him in to piss you off you know, not intentionally?"
Benny dropped the letter onto the table and looked up to stare at Jimzo as the bear remained silent for a few moments and then he slowly felt his own head nod, but it didn't feel like it was moving within his head. "I know but it's not just that, I have to move on that's all. The way the visit went with him yesterday without an incident would mean they use him again without thinking. Besides I only took on this job temporary anyways."
Jimzo lifted up his mug and took a sip of the coffee before he returned it back down to the table as he gave a soft smile back at the bear. "Well, I'll miss you, though do you think they accept that though?" The cheetah's eyes lowered down to where the envelope was lying on the table as he slowly lifted his eyes up again. "I mean, you still have another month or so before your contract is up?"
"Well, I'm not just going to leave right now, just handing in my resignation. I'll leave as soon as someone else can be found." Benny said with a slight frown. "Look, I know you're not happy about this but I need to move on, this whole scene was something I thought I was into but things have been slowly bugging me. I've been here like over a year now but that..." Benny felt the top of his brow throb slightly as he frowned. "That horse with absolutely no regard to the well fare of whomever he buys and uses up to the point of just going overboard and thinking those slaves that can think, feel and talk are just an object to throw away like some snot filled tissue."
Jimzo didn't say a word as he looked down at his coffee mug as Benny continued to speak. "I remember my first few days here, met another cute bear, name of Jerryson. Was really happy to work with him, had a few good times as well." Jimzo nodded as he listened; even he had some favourites that even he had fun with from time to time, same as Jack and Quinn. "Then Jhavs came to the auction that Jerryson was up and well, he bought him and I was so happy for him at the time, though sad that I had lost someone I was having real feelings for."
Benny got up and walked over to where the coffee pot was and poured himself another mug of hot black coffee and walked back to his seat and sat down. Benny took a sip as he felt tears began to well up in his eyes. "It was a month; a fucking month before we learnt that bastard tried way too hard and busted him up inside when he phoned. Was no point in bringing back the body, couldn't claim money back from a dead slave, now could you?" Benny wiped his eyes as he looked at Jimzo. "I know we're not supposed to fall in love with any of the slaves we work with but dammit, it happens and I had moved on or so I thought, just the thought of him coming here." Benny had a murderous look on his face. "It took everything I had yesterday to not walk away from fixing that front door and killing him. But I suppose I was torn between that and getting that wolf to come up with his consequences after attacking this place as well. I still love Jack and Quinn." Benny looked at Jimzo. "And you, you're all been very good friends and more sometimes but I feel that if I stay now, my anger on what has happened will only kill that and I rather remember the good times, you know?"
Jimzo pushed back the chair with a slight screech as the legs scraped on the floor and padded over before he wrapped his arms around the thick neck of Benny and gave a big kiss on top of his head. "Well, we will all miss you but if it makes you happy then I'll understand but I rather you didn't go." Benny lifted up his paw and brushed it over the side of Jimzo's cheek as he replied back. "I know..."
Jimzo slowly lowered his head and gave Benny a kiss on the lips as he purred softly. "You will keep in touch won't you? Let me know where you are and how you're getting on?" The cheetah smiled as he ran his fingers over the bear's whiskers gently. "You only have to call me and I would run to you as fast as I can, you know that, right?"
Benny nodded slowly as he heard sounds from above and turned his head around to see only the sight of the sun just barely made its head up, the sky not fully lit yet as the clouds had orange/pink clouds underneath them. "I know and I will." Benny turned his head around and he gave Jimzo a kiss on the lips. "You best go out and let the slaves out. Don't think you should be hear when I tell him."
Jimzo nodded and slowly he walked back to where his seat was, lifted the mug up and drank the remaining coffee before he walked back and placed it on the draining board and left via the back door, though he turned his head around to give one more pleading look to Benny before he finally headed out and closed the door behind him. Benny turned his head to look to where the door that led to the hallway and after a few moments he saw Jack enter first, followed by Quinn.
Jack moved over to where the toaster was and popped in some slices as he turned his head around to Quinn. "How many do you want?" Quinn lifted up two fingers as Jack nodded and placed in two more slices before he left that and poured out two mugs of coffee and placed one in front of Quinn before he took a seat himself at the table.
Quinn looked at Benny who was looking in his direction and slowly he lifted up his mug and took a swig of hot coffee before he placed it down again onto the table with a soft thud and spoke. "Okay, what's the matter?" Jack turned his head to where Benny was and returned his gaze back to where Quinn was stared intently at the bear as he looked down towards his own coffee and kept silent.
Benny gave a slight frown as he spoke though he didn't look up to where Quinn was at the other side of the table. "I've decided to quit." Jack suddenly looked up from his non-inspection of the coffee and blinked at Benny as he blurted out. "Quit, why?"
Benny gave a frown but it went away quickly as he took a deep breath in and continued on. "I don't think this is the job for me, it never really got to be something I enjoyed since I joined here. What with that incident that happened at the beginning when I joined, I never thought you would call that fucker to come back again."
Quinn bit his lower lip but then spoke out as he replied back. "Benny, we were only using him to deal with that bastard wolf that broke in, tried to rob us and probably if you didn't arrive in time with Jimzo would've done a lot worse."
Benny leant back into his chair and sighed. "I know, but of all the people you could've called to have dealt with it... It just brought up some bad memories that I really didn't want to go back to and I don't think I can move on and find happiness again if I stay here." Benny moved his paw across the table and pushed the envelope over to where Quinn was. Jack was relieved as he heard the toaster pop up and got up to busy himself with buttering the slices as Benny continued on. "I love you two and all, sorry for giving you the cold shoulder yesterday. If I stay here it will only get worse and I'd rather leave while I'm still friends than allow that bastard and myself to ruin that and I have to leave on a more unfortunate situation."
Quinn slowly picked up the envelope and sighed, his webbed fingers traced along the edge of it before he spoke out. "So when do you wish to leave?" Benny replied back as Jack padded around the table and placed a plate with buttered toast down in front of Quinn and took his own seat as he began to eat his own toast quietly. "I won't leave until you have found a replacement." Quinn nodded his head. "Okay, I'll start looking for a replacement then." Quinn's voice was subdued as he saw Benny nod and got up before he walked out of the kitchen, closing the door behind him as Quinn turned his head to Jack. "Well, I knew it was coming but didn't think it would come this quickly..."
Jack swallowed what was in his mouth and replied back, his tail curled around one of the chair legs. "It's my fault, I should've thought of someone else, kind of forgot about that time." Jack looked down as Quinn shook his head. "No, there wasn't anyone else we could've asked to do what we wanted. Jhavs can be a right pain in the rear but you know the job will get done and we won't see that wolf again no matter what happens to him." Quinn reached over and placed his paw on top of Jacks. "You didn't do anything wrong at all, though if we did have someone else you would've thought of that person instead. I don't think Benny hates us for it, not fully..." Quinn looked down at the envelope as he pushed it to the side. "No, I think it's the right decision to make."
Jack smiled softly as he got up. "You know, I don't feel hungry anymore." The rat picked up his plate and emptied it into the bin as he placed the plate into the sink. "You headed out today, right?" Quinn took a bite from his toast as he nodded and replied back. "Well, we need to get some replacements from the auction and pay off the percentage we owe from selling them. Sure you don't want to come and get away for a bit? We can put another advertisement into the paper about work available here."
Jack gripped the edge of the sink with his hands as he looked outside of the window where Benny was helping Jimzo get the remaining slaves into the field before he nodded his head. "I think I will, if only to give Benny sometime away from us, perhaps he may change his mind by the time we get back." The rat spoke with a hopeful tone in his voice.
Quinn got up as he emptied his plate and placed the plate into the sink as he placed a webbed paw on top of the rat's shoulder. "I hope so too, but we have to respect his decision." Jack frowned as he shook his head. "Aye, Jhavs still manages to wreck havoc here even though he's not about." The rat continued to look out of the window as Quinn turned his head to look out as well as he gave Jack a gentle sideways hug before chrr'ing softly. "Well, hopefully we won't ever have to see him again. I'll ask if there's anyone else we can contact if trouble ever comes our way again when we meet our breeder."
Jack smiled as he turned his head around and gave Quinn a kiss. "You sure I haven't done anything wrong?" Quinn nodded his head. "No, but we could've gone about it in a more subtle way." Jack looked gloomy as Quinn bumped his nose against the rat nose. "Hey, we all make mistakes but if you want, go talk to Benny. I'm sure he doesn't hold a grudge against you."
Still smiling, Jack gave Quinn a kiss on the cheek and walked outside as Quinn turned around and looked at the envelope on the table as he sighed, walked up to it and picked it up as he headed to the room next door and walked over to the desk. Quinn pulled the drawer open as he placed it inside and gave it one more look before he closed it again slowly and left the room.
Quinn made his way to the other side of the room and picked up a bag as he headed out of the room and started to go back up the stairs again. He headed into the bedroom and closed the door as he placed the bag on the floor at the bottom of the bed and placed his webbed fingers underneath the mattress and pulled up as the bottom of the bed lifted up to show off a compartment. Quinn looked at the safe at the bottom and pulled out a key from his back pocket, slipped it in and began to press numbers on the keypad before he heard it beep and then he turned the key. Quin opened the safe as he pulled out several wrapped bundles of notes and counted them as he began to put them into the bag before he slowly looked at what was left in the safe, which was very little. Quinn picked up a black book and placed that into the bag, followed by a bank book and after this; he closed the safe and locked it before he lowered the bed down, straightening the mattress.

Jack walked across the yard as he saw where Benny was closing the gate and he slowed down before he came up alongside him. "Err, Benny I just like to say..." Jack rubbed the back of his head as he sighed. "Look, I'm sorry. I wasn't thinking yesterday at all and I really didn't want to harm your feelings." Jack looked down as he waited for the worst.
Benny looked at Jack quietly as he slowly pulled the rat into him and gave him a hug. "Jack It's okay, I know you wouldn't have harmed me intentionally." The large paws lifted up Jack's head as he looked into the rat's eyes which were wet slightly at the bottom. "You made a mistake but we're still friends. I just want a change you know?"
Jack nodded as he felt Benny wipe his thumbs over the bottom of his eyes as he sniffed slightly. "But you and Jimzo were getting along so well. How can that continue if you're going to leave?" Benny saw the sad look that Jack had. The rat had a guilty look on his face as the bear wrapped his arms about the rat and hugged tightly. "We've talked about it yesterday and just now. I'm moving into town so it's still near enough for him to see me on his time off. I just have to find work there now that's all."
Benny felt the head of Jack rest on his chest as he pulled a large paw up and rested it on the back of the rat's neck as he smiled. "I feel better though now." Jack looked up slightly as Benny explained. "I've been hanging around way too much since what happened but I know that now that this chapter in my life here and it has been a very good one overall. I need to end it to move on, it was just easier to bring myself to realise with yesterday's events and all."
Jack looked up and gave Benny a gentle friendly nuzzle. "You sure things are okay?" Benny gave a funny look and pushed Jack away with a smile. "Oh will you just stop worrying, everything is fine." The large bear leant up against the wall as he saw Jimzo walk into another barn as he smiled. "So you and Quinn headed into town today?" Jack nodded his head. "Aye, we got things to do there and then head out to get new stock. When's the day when we have to give our other products again?"
Benny rubbed his chin as he pulled himself off from the wall. "Oh that, I forgot all about that." He began to move away from Jack as he continued on. "Tomorrow but we have to make sure that we've met our quota, probably have to work all throughout the night on this one. Thanks for reminding me about it."
Quinn came into view as Jack pulled himself off from the wall and walked over as they got near to the car and as Jack moved over to where the door was, Jack smiled at him and spoke. "So feeling better now after talking to him?" Jack nodded his head. "Aye, you were right, this is the right decision after all." They both got into the car as Jack carefully put on his seatbelt. Quinn came in and pushed the bag to the back seat as he put on his own seatbelt, turned the engine on and began to drive off.

As Quinn and Jack slowly got onto the road which led them towards town, Jack leant over and switched on the radio. <i>"And we have another caller, hello and you are?"</i> Quinn listened as he heard a weird voice on the other side as he muttered. "Great, another human caller... You wonder why they even bother to call up, wonder what they're complaining about now." Jack made a shushing noise as Quinn turned around a corner where the road zigzag from being straight and then he straightened the car again.
"Yes, I like to complain about how you don't treat everyone in your country the same. Slavery is an evil that must be abolished." Jack turned his head around to look at Quinn who was now frowning before he spoke out at the radio. "Stupid bitch, doesn't understand how our system works."
Jack shook his head as he went and turned the radio off, then turned his head to face Quinn. "Don't worry about it, they keep on making their complaints but they really don't have any say in what they do. We kicked their asses last time they tried to force us to their ways." Jack remembered the last war and shuddered. "Though I wished it never turned to that though but I can't see them trying it again."
Quinn saw the road head down the hill as he saw the town up ahead as he replied back. "Depends, they may do, they may not but they don't understand us at all. Hell, most don't even know how to speak our own language but it's not our problem, just as long as they keep to their side of the world the better for us all."
The conversation died off as both decided to bring up more important things as Jack reached into the glove compartment and slowly pulled out a notepad and pen, scribbling into it as he looked up ahead as they slowly entered into the town itself. "You left enough in the safe for the wages, right?" Jack saw Quinn nod his head. "Aye, that's still in there, even your wages so don't worry. Anything you need to get done while we're here?"
Jack nodded his head. "Aye we need to get more stuff in food wise, plus we need to make more orders for food to be delivered for the slaves as well." Jack pulled out a piece of paper from his shirt pocket. "Jimzo gave me this last night before bed, said a few items were running low and we were to arrange delivery. Although he also muttered something about you getting in a phone line as well so we could just call it up. Said something about moving with the times and getting a computer and online to even make it faster."

Jack and Quinn had split up as Quinn spent his time in the bank, putting the money into the account while Jack was about with other places as he spent his time ordering food stock and getting in other personal food for the workers. They both arrived at the same time at the car as Jack was slowly putting in paper bags of shopping into the boot. "Busy in there?" Jack enquired as Quinn leant against the side of the car with a nod. "Want lunch?" Jack enquired as he saw Quinn nod his head again and pushed himself off the side of the car and replied back. "Where do you fancy?"
Jack closed the boot with a bang and locked it. "Oh that small restaurant around the corner, you know where it is? Haven't had a decent roast for ages and you could have their fish pie again." Jack smiled as he saw Quinn slowly smiled and the sound of his stomach rumbled. Quinn began to turn to walk in the direction. "Okay, you won me but you're buying."
Jack caught up alongside Quinn as he blinked. "I'm buying? I've not been paid my wages yet so since you're the one with the money, you have to pay, besides..." Jack slipped an arm through Quinn's as he leant against him. "Think of it as buying me a meal on a small date."

The restaurant was called. <b>The Weasel Drum</b and Quinn and Jack made their way in as they were approached by a dark furred weasel who bobbed his head with a chirrp and a smile. "Welcome friends. I am glad to see you again." The weasel was known as Kiko and he smiled at his two friends before he showed them to a table and pulled the seats out for Jack and Quinn. "It's been a long time since you've been here, work going well for you at the farm?"
Quinn smiled at Kiko as he churred back. "Work goes well, how your slave is doin... Sorry, how is your cook doing?" Kiko chuckled as he leant down and leant on the table and churred softly. "Oh he's doing fine after I decided to teach him to cook. In fact, no offence but I don't see him as a slave anymore, more like my business partner."
Jack chuckled. "Hey, we don't care what you do as long as you don't harm them so you working on papers to make it official?" Kiko nodded as he pulled out a small white pad from his jacket top, the weasel looked about at other staff serving the other tables and turned his head back around. "Yes, just waiting now for a decision on whether he will gain citizenship. But since he has work and good references I don't think I have to wait that much longer." Kiko turned to face Quinn. "Thanks for allowing me to meet him though. However, what would you like to have? It will be as you say? It will be on the house?"
Quinn leant back in his seat. "I will have your fabulous fish pie and a bottle of white wine while my friend here will have his usual rare steak and a bottle of red wine?" Kiko scribbled it down as he smiled. "Ah, the usual then yes? Good, good. I shall go and make sure your order is made without delay. I'll let him know that it is you that he is cooking for." Kiko turned around and walked off as he went to the back and into the kitchen.
Jack smiled as he leant on the table. "So, how you think he will cook your food once he knows you're the one that's going to eat it?" Quinn blushed slightly as he looked at Jack. "He's before your time but I'm hoping the time we spent in the shower, the barn, the field, the car, the kitchen table..."
Jack blinked as he looked at Quinn. "You did it in the kitchen with one of them?" Quinn nodded. "Don't worry, the table has been cleaned so many times afterwards since then but aye. In fact he actually started to learn how to cook. But kept an eye on him during so, but never stole anything or ate anything he did cook. He stuck to his diet and everything. I think he will come out later after we've finished our meal."
After a short while Kiko walked over with two wine glasses and then placed them down before he walked off and then came back with two bottles already opened and he placed them down on the table before he picked up the white and poured some into the glass then did so with the red. "There you go." The weasel churr'd happily. "Your meal shouldn't take that much longer." Then the weasel was off again leaving Jack and Quinn alone.
"So what do you think Benny will do once he's left us?" Jack looked at Quinn with a questionable look on his face as Quinn took up his glass and sipped the wine. "Oh, I suppose he will go back to being a security guard again, although where I haven't a clue that is up to him."
Jack nodded as he slowly saw Kiko slink over with two plates, both of his black paws hidden from the white towels underneath as he placed the plates down in front of them. "Here you go, please enjoy." The weasel turned and left them as Jack spoke up as he sniffed the steak while he picked up his knife and fork. "Well, I'm hoping he'll change his mind and stick around." Jack looked at Quinn as he shrugged. "Maybe perhaps give him the option to return if he so wishes in the future or a holiday to get away fully to think things over?"
Quinn took a large fork full of fresh moist white fish, mixed with mash potato as he placed it into his muzzle and melted into a soft churr. Jack grinned as he watched Quinn chew before adding. "I take it we're not about to die horribly for being mean slavers then?"
Quinn shook his head as he swallowed. "I give him some credit. That boy definitely learnt how to cook." Quinn took another mouthful and added. "I'll talk to Benny about it tonight, but the final decision is up to him and not us, remember that. Don't pressure him in making it, you may end up ending the friendship that you were so afraid of this morning."
Jack sighed. "Sorry, you're right but I'm worried. It's like we're just rushing him out or something." The rat cut into the steak before he placed it into his mouth and chewed, his eyes rolling back as he tasted the blood and swallowed. "Okay, this is good meat, where do you think they get it from?"
Quinn didn't answer as they continued to eat and drink until both of their plates where empty and taken away by the jubilant weasel owner. Eventually as Quinn looked into his glass of white wine he replied back to the question. "That steak had probably come from some slave that either couldn't be sold or was killed or grew too old or something." Jack blinked as he looked down and then he shrugged on it. Quinn smiled. "Hey, it's our law, only those that manage to get citizenship don't have to face that fact until they've died. The slaves usually don't have a choice since they have that over their heads all throughout their lives if they don't perform well enough." Quinn finished his glass as he placed it back down on the table. "Thankfully I've never had any reason to go to the butcher before but I am not sure how long I can keep that luck up, was worried about Timmy though. It was either him or sending him to our forces for training."
Kiko walked up as he bowed his head to the two. "Ah, right you are ready, yes?" Quinn nodded his head. "He would like you to come to the kitchen to meet him, if you two would like?" Jack looked at Quinn who nodded and got up from his seat as Quinn did the same and slowly they followed Kiko who walked them to the back and into the kitchen.
Quinn grinned as he saw Cha-lo standing over a pan, stirring as Miko stood to the side as Jack watched as Quinn padded up quietly and then leant over Cha-lo's shoulders and churred. "Ah, so you're the cook then?"
Cha-lo turned around and gave Quinn a tight hug. "Hello again!" Quinn chuckled as he hugged tightly and then looked to where Jack was. "Cha-lo, this is Jack, he works for me. He helped one of my slaves to become confident enough so you couldn't have a chance to cook him."
Jack blushed as Cha-lo walked up and lifted up the rat with a tight hug. "Ah, my friend Quinn was always known how to make good judgement on friends. I'm pleased to meet you as well." Jack smiled and finally replied back. "Ah, Quinn was always good at knowing how to please people."
Cha-lo nodded and turned his head back to Quinn. "I can't talk much, still busy schedule." The panda bear turned his head around to a beaver and shouted. "No!" He walked away and Quinn shrugged as he saw Cha-lo boss about as he turned his head around to Kiko. "Tell Cha-lo we were happy to see him but we had to go on an important errand." Kiko nodded as Jack walked out and Quinn paused and shook Kiko's paw. "Also tell him that I'm very proud of him."
Jack and Quinn left the restaurant as they walked back to the car as Quinn smiled. "Nothing like seeing a really good ending that has come out of our farm for once. I hope most of ours make it just as far as Cha-lo but many don't." Jack smiled as they headed back to their car.
