The next day Samantha went to Ganfree and told him her story. He was very attentive, listening to every word and her every gesture. After she is done he speaks. "So what is your plan to deal with this darkside?"

"Thank you." Ganfree waves his hand dismissing her. She heads home to spend a lot of time with Jackie before leaving for the druids.

Malchor stewed in a cell designed to hold magic users. "How dare they put me in hear after all I've done for them. And that CAT! How did she get free of those bonds and have access to her magic it should have been impossible. They will all pay for this! Somehow."

"I could help." Malchor looks around and sees a small portal. "I understand your frustration and I can help, just give the word."

"What's the price?"

"I do need your help for something so I help you, you help me."

"Fine, you have a deal."

"Good." A shadow flies into Malchor. He twitches and screams for a minute and then he causes a massive explosion. Among the prison ruins Malchor is seen laughing though one would hardly recognize him. He has fire burning around him and from his eyes. His body is almost pitch black.

"Wow, this amazing power. So worth the price." He flies into the air and start shoot magic balls in every direction. Houses explode as those balls hit and people start running and screaming. In minutes all of Woodland town's top mages appear among them Samantha. An elf mage steps forward and yells.

"MALCHOR! CEASE THIS AT ONCE AND AWAIT YOUR TRIAL!" Malchor responds by send a flame attack at her. She raises a shield and it appears to hold but soon she screams in agony as is burned to a crisp. The Mages respond throwing fire, ice, wind, and lighting at him. They just bounce off his fiery shield and he hits some of the mages with his own attacks. Several fall never to rise again others are down for the count while others are still fighting. Samantha is among those still standing. Sweating and with aches everywhere she cast several bolts at once. They seem to do damage to his shield, but he unleashes a massive shocked wave blown all the remaining mages into nearby buildings. After blacking out for a couple of minutes Samantha groans and sits up. When she finally opens her eyes they're glowing blood red again. Her fur darkens. She gets up with a purposeful stride and looks up at the possessed Malchor.

"THAT HURT!" The ground starts shaking and as she lifts up her arms two large pieces of rock rise in the air. She then throws them at Malchor. He manages to get into the gap between the boulders but his shield collapses. For the next five minutes the two dark beings exchange spell after spell at each other. Samantha launches a fireball then channels energy into her legs and launches in the air. Malchor deflect the fireball but yells out in pain. He looks over and his right arm below the elbow is gone. He then screams again as the same thing happens to his left arm. Then his legs were gone. Slowly he was cut up and as he dies the demon within him says. "Impossible! A mere mortal ending my existence, and I just got back!" Finally his head is separated from his body and both Malchor and the unnamed demon head back to hell. With her back bent forward Samantha looks exhausted.

"Sam!" Samantha turns and sees Jackie running to her. She holds her head and grunts before she returns to normal. She then holds up a hand and says.

"Jackie, don't touch! I have a lot of blood on me." Jackie stops and looks and does see dark liquid on Sam's body. She was about to continue anyway when a pillar of water splashes against Sam. Sputtering Samantha looks over and sees a grinning Sir Ganfree. "What was that for?"

"Clean off the blood." Samantha looks down and most of the blood is gone with the remaining dripping off. Before she can do anything more Jackie pounces on her and she falls the ground with the Kanin pup hugging her chest. Ganfree walks over, smirks, and comments. "You must be exhausted if Jackie can do that."

"Well it's not everyday you take down a demon possessed." Samantha gasp out.

"And your darkside?"

"That a worry. Exhausted as well which is why I easily retook control."

"Good to know. You troops! Take those remains and burn them." The troops, get to work gingerly picking up the remains of Malchor as Ganfree helps Samantha up. Besides a few cuts and bruises she's just tired. Yet she carries Jackie with determination as she heads for the Field Hospital being set up to help the wounded. As they walk Jackie asks.

"Is that Tona's house?" Jackie points to a house with a huge hole in the roof with char marks on the edges. It is and Samantha puts down Jackie and runs over to the remains of the house. She goes through the remains of the door and using her nose she searches for Tona's scent. Finding it among the scents of burnt wood she goes over to where it was strongest and started removing debris. After a few minutes with Ganfree helping they uncover Tona. The Kanin is unconscious with cuts bleeding a lot of blood on the floor and her right arm in an awkward angle. Finally there was a strange glow about her. Samantha put her curiosity aside for Tona was not in good shape. Kneeling next to her friend Samantha calls on what's left of her magical reserves and stabilized the Kanin. Ganfree grabs Samantha before she can fall on Tona. After helping her get to her feet Jackie offers to be a crutch for Samantha while Ganfree carried Tona to the Field Hospital.

When Tona awakes she finds she can't move her right arm, something has encased it and she feels a weight on her left side. Moaning she opens her eyes and sees not her bedroom ceiling but a wooden pole to what she guesses is a canvas. "Confused, why am I here and what happened to my arm?"

"Malchor became possessed by a demon and cause a lot of havoc before he died. Your house was ruined and your arm was broken. Sadly I was drained from the battle with Malchor so I only had enough power left to make sure you didn't die so your arm is in a cast."

"How long have I been out?"

"Honestly I don't know I've been out myself half the time."

"You've both been here two days." Says a female human with healer robes on. The human than waves her hand over Tona then says. "Besides your arm you have heal most of your wounds. Your friend can heal you the rest of the way when she has recovered her power." The healer walks off leaving the two females looking at each other.

"With my house gone I have nowhere to go." Tona comments.

"Don't be silly. You'll live with me until your house can be rebuilt." Tona looks at Samantha and thoughts run through her head.

"Should I take her offer? She has that dark past of hers, but she's been good to Jackie. She has gone out of her way to help me in the past. She probably nearly killed herself to save me then stay at my side." Outwardly she says. "Alright, help me up." The two support each other as they head to Samantha's home. "Hey where's Jackie?"

"At home, she did come by the times I was awake. She'll be glad to see you." As they reach Samantha's home she opens the door and an excited yip is heard.

Their stomachs growled at them on the way home so it was decided to have something to eat first. Since Tona's arm is still out of commission Samantha has to cook. Just as Tona sits down Jackie comes back with some flowers in her hand.

"These are for you." Jackie hands Tona the flowers and the older Kanin takes them and sniffs them.

"Thanks Jackie." Samantha comes over with a vase to put them in and then returns to cooking. They had a hardy meal then with both still injured to some extent the to adults head to bed early. Samantha shows Tona to the room she sleeps in when she's been here overnight. Saying good night to each other Samantha gets in her bed and begins to fall asleep. Ganfree dressed in his fine clothes for he has a meeting with the king to discuss the Malchor incident. After a final glance he heads to the throne room. The guards let him pass without trouble for Ganfree was a well known Knight to them and staunchly loyal to the crown. He fines the king not at the throne but looking out the window towards the devastation. "You summoned me my King?"

The king still looking out the window answers.

"Yes Elin, How did we not see this?" The king waves his hand at the smoke and ruins in view. "Malchor should have shown some signs he was capable of this?"

"My king, Malchor was the head of his group. Any signs he could easily hide and he had always served well in the past so there was no need to look at him hard. Who could have known Samantha's arrival would start all of this?"

"I've heard reports of her, Interesting female."

"You've sent time with her. Tell me what you know." Ganfree went about tell the king everything Samantha did eventually told him while Tona was in the hospital. When done the king asks. "So what do you think?"

"Well she appears to be more afraid of this darkside then anything else minus this Siana. She also loves the Kanin pup that came with her.She has done her best to do good here and only gave her past when her darkside showed up. I think she wants to forget most of her past." The King nods and heads over to the throne. His age now really shows as the 62 year old sits on the throne. He work hard to make this city a haven for all species since he founded this fledgling Unity Kingdom.

"Well she's gonna have to do what she is hesitant to do."

"From the reports I've received Samantha is the strongest mage left so she has to lead the Mages now. If she wants she can go to the druids to the north. They could help her with the dark side. She isn't the only one who was done wrong in the past. If I, a human can make this kingdom than she can face and defeat her darkside. Tell her this is a direct order from the king."

"Yes my lord."

Samantha woke up late the next morning and Jackie was already gone. She stretches and heads down to make breakfast. That sleep did her a lot of good she felt better. By the time she was finish with breakfast she should in good shape. She gathers the ingredients and she decided a hearty meat breakfast today. She's have way through making it when she remembered. "Well have a seat breakfast is about ready and after that I'll take care of your arm." Tona nods and heads to the table yawning. Samantha heads to the back opens the back door. "JACKIE BREAKFAST!" "Are you Samantha Reborn?"

"Than Sir Ganfree request your presence as soon as possible."

"Very well tell him I'll be there soon." The messenger nods and leaves as Samantha heads back and finishes her meal. When done she goes over to Tona. "Okay let me see that arm." She puts her hand over the casted arm and begins a small chant. In a minute she was done and uses a dagger to cut off the cast. Tona moves the arm around a bit and says.

"It feels great thanks."

"You're my friend so it's nothing. What are you going to do today?"

"Well with my arm back in working order I'll head for work. Need money to rebuild my house."

"Okay cya later. Jackie you be good while we're gone."

She arrives at the castle and meets Ganfree in the same room as before. Ganfree looks at her seriously and asks. "How are you feeling?"

"Not back to normal but good."

"Good, well I have news you won't initially like. The King has order you to succeed Malchor as Master Mage of the Unity Mages. Every other mage that could do the job are dead Samantha and you're the strongest left." Samantha looks down at the floor thinking.

"Why? Why can't I just be a simple mage here? What if the darkside comes loose again? Could Siana influence me again if I train others?" Her think starts going in circles until Ganfree grabs her.

"I know do would be afraid but it's the King's order and he does have an idea to help." Samantha looks at him and he continues. "Decades ago we made good relations with a bunch of druids who specialize in healing both physical and spiritual. They could help you." Samantha sighs and relents.

"Okay I'll do it. I'll go to the druids for I have come up with nothing to be rid of her. I'll go in a few days."

"Fine the job will be waiting when you get back. I know you can do this, I saw the inner fire of good in you and you have plenty to fight for." After handing her a map Samantha heads home.

Tona heads for home, correction Samantha's home she doesn't have one anymore. Won't Jackie be surprised seeing her back early. "Work got hit by the attack and is completely destroyed along with the owner. Some of the apprentices are trying to start again and since I wasn't critical I'm now jobless. They did said I'd be among the first they'll seek when they can afford it."

"I'm so sorry Tona. Well you can stay here as long as you like or need to and maybe you can find work else where."

"Thanks." Tona looks back at the backpack. "How did the meeting go?" Samantha sighs and looks at Tona with a sad look.

"The king made me the head of the Unity Mages."

"But that's good isn't it?"

"Normally but, I'm scared of me. Of what I or importantly what that darkside might do. So I'm heading to a druid group to hopefully help get rid of it for all time."

"Good luck, when are you heading out?"

One of the human mages gave her a report. Most of the mages near her level were dead with the remaining ones in the hospital in bad shape. There were dead among the remaining ranks as well. There were various injuries along all the ranks of the mages as well but overall the mages were weakened but not down. "Okay, besides from recruiting new mages not much we can do there. Now I have a problem that I need solved, Tona please come over." The Kanin hesitantly walks over. "Now I need every one with healing or transformation powers to come over." Once the mages with those powers come over Samantha begins again. "Good luck Samantha." the Kanin herm says. Samantha nods and heads out for the druids. A day after leaving the city she is ambushed by bandits. After a couple days the path leads to an interesting grove of trees. Several large trees have twisted around each other before splitting again forming and interesting tower made of living trees. After a few minutes the door opens to reveal a tall woman with green hair and eyes, clearly a druid. "Hi." Samantha starts. "King Westwood told me to come here." Samantha hands over a letter with the Kings seal. The druid looks over the letter and seal before handing back to Samantha.

"Follow me Samantha Reborn." The Catrai follows the druid into the tree tower. Inside the bottom of the tree tower is lit by green mage lights. Samantha sees a couple of Druids practicing magic. Samantha then follows the druid up some rounding stairs. They past various rooms for minutes until they reach and interesting area. They're on top of the central trunk. Instead of having bark on the floor it has grass with the sun shining down on it. Samantha sees a human female and a male elf doing something in the grass, what Samantha can't tell from where she is. The top of the trees line the sides of the grass area with more doors. The druid leads them to the largest tree top. She opens the door and leads them up another staircase. This one leads to a large room where an aged druid sitting on a chair teaching a bunch of young druids. "Lady Willowa I present Samantha Reborn sent by King Westwood of Woodland town."

"We'll continue this later girls." Willowa dismisses the girls then she got up and looked at Samantha. She walks around Samantha and when she completes her circuit she says. "I am Willowa, head teacher of this school. You have an odd coloring for a Catrai. Why have you come seeking our aid?"

"I have a darkness in me, more than the usual and I need to purge it or have a much stronger cage for it."

"We can help you with that." She looks at the other druid. "Get Glade, she's the best with that kind of problem." The Druid nods and leaves. Willowa returns to her seat and asks. "How is the king these days?"

"I haven't meant him personally but I haven't heard he was ill."

"Okay and his city?"

"Rebuilding a bit, our last head mage got possessed and cause havoc before my darkside killed him."

"Not a small feat, no wonder you were sent here." The door opens and the druid from before with a young druid behind her. The younger druid had a surprisingly yellow hair and more white skin tone than the average. "Glade meet Samantha Reborn, she's your next job." Looking at Samantha Willowa continues. "She seem young but she's the best equipped to help you."

"Hello." Glade extends her hand which Samantha takes and the shake.

"Glade show her to her quarters."

"Yes milady, this way." Glade leads Samantha down the central trunk to a small room with a bed, table, sink, and dresser. Samantha looks at Glade and says.

"Being Catrai I have to eat meat on occasion."

"We have Carnivores here before so we are prepared. Well settle in and get some rest and we'll start tomorrow." Glade closes the door behind her. Samantha takes out some of her stuff then she sits on her bed.

"Well....let's hope for the best."
