The Beginning of it all-Part 3
The Beginning of it All-Part 3
Attack on the village
For hours I sat and listened to Jera talk to me, not just about what had happened to the village, but also just talking to me. I found it a little odd as well because it wasn't often that I was allowed to actually speak my mind about things. Guess that's why a lot of times he always seemed like a second dad to me.
When it was finally over it was hard to stand. I should have learned by now that sitting like that for a while wasn't good for me, but I was stubborn. I said my goodbyes to Jera and slowly walked out of the hut. As I got outside I took a deep breath of the cool night air and stared up into the sky. It was a perfectly clear night with a bright full moon. I just slowly started walking away and ran my paw through my hair, talking softly to myself, "Well that was completely unexpected. I wonder why he chose this night to talk to me about it." Then I just looked up into the sky once again. "Hmm well maybe the full moon had something to do about it. I know I always tend to act a little different around this time." I just continued walking and thinking about everything that was said tonight. I tried shaking my head to get some of the thoughts out of it, but that didn't work. "I know I'm not going to be able to get some sleep so it's pointless to head home...." Just then I looked up and saw where my footpaws were carrying me. It's funny how sometimes you don't seem to have control over your body, especially when you're deep in thought. But when I was brought out of my little world I realized I was at my little hill.
I just smiled and chuckled to myself, "Heh well since I'm here I might as well stay a bit." As I said this was a place I'd love to just sit for hours to think. No one would usually come around to bother me, especially this last at night. As I walked up the rest of the hill I looked to my right and saw my tree and figured what the heck. So squatting down I nimbly jumped up the tree from branch to branch until nearly reaching the top I stopped at a branch that was both comfortable and thick enough to support me. When I got there my breath was taken away. I've been up here countless times already, but tonight was even more amazing. All I could do was stare out into the distance looking on for miles and miles. As I slowly slide my back down the trunk of the tree I looked up at the bright full moon looking back at me. Finally my fuzzy butt came down on the branch I was standing on and I just let my legs and tail hang off it as I leaned back and put my arms behind my head. "I wish it could always be like this." I whispered softly to myself as I stared off into the distance. Even though it was late I could still see a few lights off in the distance, but as I said everything just seemed to open up to me and stretch on for forever. A smile spread across my face as I watched all of this. It wasn't long until my eyelids grew heavy and I drifted off to sleep. I would wake up early the next morning and finally head off back to home.
Several more years passed just as each season does and as the moon fades and grows with each passing night. Each year had passed until I was the age of 18. As I grew older I grew stronger, faster, smarter and was able to control my powers a lot more. It seemed that my special training was almost not necessary anymore, but I knew better. My hand to hand combat was unmatched by anyone in the village. Though there were always things that I could learn so I always kept my eyes open. Though one thing that never changed was me making jokes and goofing off. One big change as I grew older was of course the natural changes my body went through. I had noticed myself looking at females more often. I had even tried going out with several, but it always ended the same. The fears they held as a pup still existed so I always got rejected for some reason or another. Although as time went by I noticed my view started to drift. It started changing from me looking at females to males. However this is one thing I kept hidden. Even though I was already different with my powers and everything I was still accepted. However if they found this out it would be a different story.
As I woke up and got ready for my daily learnings I thought this was going to be just like any other day. Well ok that was a lie. Even though everything looked right something just didn't feel right. Just one of those feelings that something was going to happen....just wish I had been wrong. But regardless I just pushed the thought out of my mind and headed out of the house. Training and everything was going fine and then all of a sudden about halfway through the day that feeling came back to me once again. But once again I just shook the thought out of my mind.
"What the hell is this feeling?" I asked myself. Sighing and running my paw through my hair, shaking my head to try and clear it again. "I need to do something to get my head clear...." As I said this to myself my head turned to look at my little hill. "Hmmm....well I do have plenty of time before my next lesson and I'm not really hungry so..." I just shrugged and started walking towards it. Figured it couldn't hurt, especially if it helped to get rid of this feeling and clear my mind, which it almost always did.
I smiled to myself as I started walking up the gradual slope and plopped myself against the trunk of the tree. Enjoying the cool shade that it gave and the small breeze blowing through my fur, it was a perfect day. Heh must have been too perfect because as I laid there enjoying the day I must have dozed off for a bit because next thing I heard was someone running up to me and shouting my name. "Naki! Damn it all there you are! What are you doing up here!" I was still asleep though so I just thought it was a dream I was having until I felt a warm paw shaking my shoulder and continuing to shout my name. "Naki wake up we have to get going! Quickly now! Damn it come on!" I began to stumble out of sleep as I started to realize who's voice it was, it was my dad's. I quickly started pulling myself out of sleep as I began to hear the urgency in his voice. Rubbing my paw along my eyes and shaking my head until I was awake. I quickly stood up on legs that were wobbly from resting on the hard ground.
I looked at him with a confused look on my face, still rubbing my eyes. "Dad what's wrong? What happened?"
"There's no time we have to hurry." He said quickly reaching for my paw and tugging me away. "I need to take you somewhere safe." I almost stumbled to the ground as he did but I found my footing as he began to run quickly down the other side of the hill away from the village.
"Wait dad why are we going away from the village!?" I shouted as we ran into the forest, dodging low branches as we ran.
"I have orders from Jera to take you somewhere! You just have to trust me!" He shouted running even deeper into the forest.
"But what's....." I said suddenly stopping and jerking my paw out if his looking into his wild eyes. He was terrified about something and worried about me, it was all over his face. "Ok what is going on? Something bad is happening and it's almost like you're trying to take me to safety."
He sighed deeply and walked up to me. "I was told not to say anything, but as I can see I won't be able to make you do anything you don't want to at the moment." I just nodded in agreement and crossed my arms. "There are some monsters coming to attack the village and they're not too far away now as it is. I was told they've come looking for you." My eyes bulged and my ears twitched at this news. Could this have been the feeling I felt the whole day and thinking back this may have to do with the demon that Jera had told me about years ago. My body tensed up and it started to tremble at the same time. My dad saw all of this and grabbed my shoulders trying to steady me. "Everything will be alright. The main priority is getting you to safety."
I simply shrugged his paws off my shoulders and looked up at him, grinning slightly. "I don't care if those were your orders I'm going to fight as well. I'm not letting something bad happen to the village just because of me. I'm not going to run away like a coward!" Looking at him in the eyes as I quickly turned away and got ready to take off back towards the village. But right as I was about to go I felt something hit me in the back of my head.
"I'm so sorry son....." He said as he watched me fall to the ground, my eyes rolling to the back of my head. He quickly bent down and picked me up and continued to run on. Even though I was barely conscious I could see a few flashes of landmarks that I recognized. He was taking me to a safe place that no one could access unless you were from the village and then I passed out completely. That was the last time I saw my dad.
When I awoke I was laying on the ground of a damp, cold cave at the very limits of our territory. I groaned deeply and felt the back of my head where a huge lump had formed. I rubbed it carefully with my paw and yelping several times because of it. I had to blink for a while until my eyes got adjusted to the dark. Then I closed my eyes tightly, thinking hard and still rubbing the lump on the back of my head. Suddenly it hit me about where I was and what happened. I quickly stood up the rest of the way and watched my head. I remembered the ceiling wasn't that high and I didn't need to add another lump to my head. I started walking quickly to the entrance, feeling the wall as I stumbled through the darkness. Finally finding the part on the wall that would allow the door to open and pressed it with my paw. I felt the ground beginning to rumble as the mouth of the cave slowly slide open, revealing the outside to me. I had to quickly shield my eyes from the blinding light that began pouring itself in. It took me several minutes to get used to the light to see, but I smelled it before I saw it rising against the bright blue sky. Smoke rising from my village. "No....." I felt my heart sink as soon as I saw that, but it didn't take me long to get my legs moving. I quickly began making my way through the trees and soon leaped up into them to get a better perspective and so I could move faster as well. I looked like a grasshopper as I hopped from branch to branch, quickly making my way back to the village.
I came out of the forest in a flash and landed on top of the tree on my hill. What I saw took my breath away. My eyes burned and I had to squint because there was fire everywhere. All I could see was destruction in front of me. Many houses were burned to the ground and I could see many dead. Then I realized the one spot that I hadn't looked and that was towards my home. But when I looked in that direction the damage was obvious. I got my legs moving as quickly as I could and jumped to the ground. Running as fast as I could to get there. As I ran through the village I heard many shouts and saw many looking at me as I rushed by, but I ignored all of it because my objective was clear. It didn't take me long to get there and I skidded to a stop in a cloud of dust. As I peered into the burning rubble I noticed two bodies laying beneath it. I dropped to my knees and just stared in disbelief as a tear escaped my eye and I began to howl my pain into the air.
