Chapter Four (Day two and the risky choice)
I awoke in a cold sweat, tears still streaming from my face. Was it all dream? I checked the date and time. It was April 14th and the time was twenty-three hundred hours. I had two hours before I had to go teach the cherries how to shoot. I also had to wait another 13 hours before Bulldog returned from Laos. I turned over and tried to get my two more hours of sleep. I got up at one hundred hours and went down to the firing range like I was ordered to do so.
I went through the doors to see the cherries already firing at their targets. I moved over to the center of the floor.
"Attention! Raw recruits!"
They all unload their weapons, turned and saluted me all at once.
"Okay. Today I will teach you how to properly use a fire arm."
I grabbed a standard issue M16 from a table and went back to the center floor.
I unloaded the weapon.
"First, unload the weapon."
I turned the safety on.
"Next. Turn on the safety."
I watched as all the men did the same as me.
"Alright, load your rifles, turn off the safety`s and assume firing position."
They all did so.
"Now. Aim down your iron sights and fire at your target. Aim for center of mass."
They started firing. I started pacing the range and watched the men shoot. They were good, needed work, but were good.
"Keep a steady aim and make every shot a kill, it`ll save your life one day."
Minutes seemed as if they were hours, hours seemed like days. The men kept shooting and I kept coaching and what after seemed like forever I was relieved by the MP stationed at the range. He handed me a bottle of whiskey.
"Make sure this gets to General Simmonds."
I nodded, Straight to Boss.
"No problem dude."
Off I went to go give Boss his bottle of Whiskey. I found him in his office doing paper work for the day. I handed him his bottle.
"Thanks Pyro."
I nodded.
"I`m very happy you covered for me and I thank you for that."
EVERYTHING had gone just like in my dream, I felt dead inside I did not know what do.
I heard Medics yelling the familiar words from my dream. I rushed outside the M16 slung over my back, I stood and watched the Rangers pour in from Laos and I started looking for Bulldog frantically and in a panic. I saw the brown flat top and the green patrol cap tilted to the left at an upwards angle. I ran full speed to it, I burst into tears when I saw that it was actually him.
"Pyro? What`s wrong?"
"I thought I lost you! Everything was like my dream, I feared the worst!'
He hugged me tight and I sobbed into his shoulder.
"Hun, your making people stare."
"I dont care, I
m happy that you`re back."
I paid no heed to the people around, I was completely oblivious anything else except for the lovely face in front of me. I cupped his face with my hands and kissed him, flat out. A romantic and deep tongue kiss. He melted into it and gasped slightly as I started biting and sucking at his tongue. I pulled away looked around at the people around us, their jaws were dropped, other just stared wide eyed. One guy even whistled teasingly. I looked at Bulldog.
"Hun? Did I just?"
Bulldog was red in the face and choking on his words.
"Yeah, you did."
"In front of everyone?"
"Yeah."
I felt cold now.
"Ah fuck!"
Bulldog chuckled.
"I know Babe."
I smiled a little.
"Least we get to go home early now."
He chuckled.
"Yeah, I just hope we got honorable discharges."
Me and Bulldog walked into Boss`s office, holding hands and waited for the worst.
