Enter Elden... I could see the Fair in the distance, It seemed there were a lot of people and I didn't want to be seen, I needed some type of plan, then I remembered I had packed a costume for just this reason, it was a hunchback of notre dame costume, once in it I would look like a patron who wanted to get into the spirit of the fair, it and a mask had been specially made by a costume maker in Fainbourn.
I remember Nuree kidding me that my fur would get all crushed and she would have to spend hours straightening it out, ahh, Nuree... I think she has handled the change better then I, I remember being female and human but It's as if I am remembering something I saw in a movie, it does not feel real. That first night we mated, I was terribly shocked that the act was so out of my control I mean its one thing to make love and another when it gets made for you.
Nuree was very diplomatic about it, bless her I wish I was as strong, and she seems to be handling our new child very well, they will be fine, WE will be fine. And the control thingy, I had never really had been a control freak, well almost never anyway, when me and Nuree had sex as humans I remember I liked being on top, but even this memory seems both real and made up. I had always wanted a child and now I had one, but again movie memories told me I wanted it as a human female, now I would never know what it was like, oh well it could have been worse I suppose.
Back to business, I can think about the past when I have some more time right now I need to concentrate on getting to that tent... damn baggy pants I wish this was easier, of course this costume was not made for comfort. It's kind of amazing that we could be so comfortable naked or rather without clothes, our fur did all the work, I guess the change altered us more then we knew, luckily it also made us comfortable in our new forms and roles. I finally got the pants on and buckled, they had shoes sewn onto the ends so that it would look like I was walking crouched to the ground as a deformed beggar might have done in renaissance times.
My tail needed to be wrapped around my waist, once done I held it in place with a strap I had made at the blacksmiths shop for this purpose... my tail now resembled a hump on my back helping to complete the costume. There... but damn its uncomfortable and I know I will have an ache in my tail for weeks after this, hehe listen to me wine like a baby, this is to important to allow comfort issues to interfere, now where is that mirror I packed... Ahhh... there it is... hmmm... not bad... I look almost human... I laughed out loud at that thought then quickly silenced myself, lets be careful here.
I entered the fair, paid my couple of dollars and was among unfamiliar humans for the first time in many months, I had grown used to the smells in the village but there was so much technology here that the unfamiliar smells almost overwhelmed me, this new sense of smell was incredible. I had to examine each smell, categorize it and file it away in my brain, needless to say it took me a while to work my way to the tent but finally my goal was insight.

As I got to the tent I noticed a sign to the left of the entrance, hand painted in old English styled script, with faded and scratched gold paint saying "Ye Mage Of Thes Tent Be Both Seer And Magikan - All Are Welcome" hah he was in for a shock I bet, or so I thought as it was me who was the shocked one... As I moved to open the flap of the tent I heard a deep clean voice say in old archaic English "Enter Elden the brave I have been expecting you..."
To stunned not to I entered and beheld the largest assortment of garbage I had ever seen, well not really garbage it was scientific equipment of a sort... Electricity and smoke, Bubbling beakers of colored liquid, tubes and sparks, some small Tesla Coils and many strange bottles with even stranger labels, Satanic symbols and old latin frazes written everywhere, there were enough Jacob's ladders to make Dr Frankenstein jealous.
He noticed my stare and chuckled "don't let the props fool you, its for the patrons of this fair, none of it's real."
Ok, so he seemed to be at ease I did not like it it was time to have some questions answered...
He was the first to speak however "
I turned to look at him he was a short man, a little over 1.6 meters in height and looked to weigh about 73 Kilograms. He had a dark almost middle eastern appearance, clean shaven and heavy eyebrows, his nose was a bit longer then normal and quite real, no makeup this. His eyes were two different colors blue and brown, giving him an almost hypnotic appearance, again no contact lenses. He wore a cliché' violet felt wizards hat, with gold stars and moons embroidered upon it he was matchingly attired in a black tux with a large violet felt opera coat. There was a blood red rose in his lapel and silver skulls as cufflinks he had a large red belt that was also felt... Basically a great Hollywood wizard or magician.
"I am from another solar system in this galaxy, it is inhabited by beings like you... "Uhhh..." was all I could muster, to shocked for much else, he continued "I must stop here however Elden, we need to go to Fainbourn and let your mate and you know the rest of the story at the same time."
Once what he had said was digested and my mind worked again I prepared to go but first he had to fill his bags with many different boxes, and saddle his horse, there was no way he would keep up with me on foot. As we left he put a "Gone For a' Spell ~ Back Soon" sign outside his tent he latched the curtain shut then threw a switch on a metal box, turning off the special effects.
We slowly left the Fair me and this strange man, him riding a horse with me running along side... as I moved smoothly across the fields next to the horse I wondered what else I was going to find out and got momentary chill just thinking about it. The crossing back was easy, it felt good to run again, I had taken off my costume when we were far enough from the fair to not be seen, he had placed it in one of his saddle bags. Then I began to itch, he called for a stop climbed down and offered to scratch me, I knew now he was the same type of being I was (smell never lied) and how this was natural for our species, so he scratched me with a stiff comb he had in the same saddle bag as my costume.
To a human it would look like another human was squatting behind a strange Kangaroo and coming it's fur with a comb, to me it was sheer pleasure, he scratched all the itches and I thanked him, then he remounted his Horse and I started to run, we made good time and we we're soon at the cliff.
"So this is the Village of Fainbourn, interesting, I had not seen the village in my devices so could only imagine what it looked like from what I heard."
"Yes it is a nice place... and I know my mate will have many questions to" just giving him a warning "Oh and by the way her name is Nuree and our Child's name is Renai..."
"Yes I know, we are especially interested in your child, you have made a family... wonderful, even more then we could have hopped for..."
As we headed towards the back of Flo's house I had to think about the implications of what was and would be said.

We arrived in the evening, the back door swung open and my mate came running out "Oh i've missed you and so has your daughter! welcome back lover... err... mate..." she finished lamely, The Man just laughed heartily.
"That's a lovely child may I see her up close?" Nuree stopped and looked warningly at him, "Its ok, your my species, it was just so wonderful to see a normal family interaction on a planet filled with aliens, what you used to be... umm." He noticed our confused stare "do you mean you do not have any memory of being human?" this as he went to unsaddle his horse finishing it he tied the horse up and joined them in the house.
"Not really, we have memories but they seem second hand as if we remember seeing them in a movie" this from Nuree."
"Ok Nuree I will tell you what I told your mate before we got here then the rest I will tell you both with the doctor and Flo present."
So he told me what he had told Elden...
"That helps, I can't wait to hear the rest" and I was dead honest this was to much to ask for and I hoped I could handle it. I looked at Elden, he came over and hugged me, holding our child close we hugged as a family and all looked at the man. Then my mate looked down at the baby "oh I missed you, I missed you a lot" and scritched her fur under her chin making her giggle.
Flo came in at that moment.. "Opps sorry... I should go..." she turned in the doorway to leave when he stopped her. "No no madam! you must hear this as well, go and Fetch Dr Burt and bring him here you can stay as well and I will finish my story... may I have a seat?"
"Yes you may... i'll be back in just a moment with the doctor" she quickly said leaving the house then we could hear her running.
He sat down in the chair placed there for guests as we did not need chairs.
"A very nice woman, and no part of our plans just a fortuitous event in the current situation" he continued "on the other hand Dr Burt was a plant" he let that statement rest without explanation.
We just sat there silently the man on his seat, us on our haunches and Renai in her carrier.
"By the way while we wait for Flo to return would you mind my asking what the child's name is?" the strange man looked expectant.
"Renai... her name is Renai" I said.
He laughed. "Renai... Renaissance Fair hahaha I see... I see... wonderful!"
I looked at him strangely, I felt Renai tugging on my belly fur a sure sign that she was hungry she had found it upset me less if she tugged my belly hair... smart girl! I inwardly grinned. I set her to feeding, she began and as I looked up I noticed my mate and the strange man looking at me closely, it didn't bother me... my mate was back safe. Flo then came in followed by the Doctor "I got back here as soon as possible... Dr. Burt may I introduce you to... uh... to... just what was your name?" we were all curious "yes what IS your name you never did tell me" this from Elden.
The strange man clears his throat "my name is Drevon, I am the same species as Nuree's family."
Flo looked startled and I must have looked the same way, Renai noticed something and stopped feeding, confused by what was going on, then she shrugged her little shoulders and returned to suckling. The doctor I noticed was not surprised at all, as well he shouldn't be, I am still a bit upset that he was a plant, at the same time I'm happy he was here to help.
"I shall continue with the history lesson, the doctor already knows most of this and will correct me if I make a mistake" I noticed they looked at each other knowingly. "There were two dominant life forms in your Star system when it was first discovered and monitored, one lived on a planet named Edn that no longer exists the other lived and lives on Earth."
"The missing one was unable to defeat its inner demons and unfortunately destroyed itself by causing its planet to break apart, the how of it is to complex so I have to simplify, no technology exists here for a frame of reference though."
"They had tapped the core of their planet and were using its energy to run their civilization... not a bad thing in and of itself however some got greedy and tried to prevent others from using the power and this is bad... You cannot give people power then take it away lock stock and barrel."
"During a struggle to free the power a few decided to try to defeat the technology that was blocking its use by the many, more thought had gone into its release then controlling it once released..."
"Once released it escaped... stupidly they had to destroy the only means of containment to do so and thusly the planet literally broke up."
No one said anything.
"...Now on to why I chose this Renaissance fair to look for candidates and why I chose you two..."
"The Fair travels to many countries and places... plenty of opportunity to look for those who would be needed, I noticed you two and could see the potential with one of my devices."
"The reason that you Nuree became female while your friend became male was that your ability to handle the change was different, in her gene's she had a genetic lean towards male characteristics while you as a human male had a genetic lean towards being a female of your species.
"You seemed to be the most receptive as a child bearer or mother, she more towards supporter or cliché human male roll model."
"It's one of the reasons you never got serious about the family as humans, you were both unconsciously playing a role reversal yet your conscious mind was seeing it as the last thing you wanted in a partner."
"Your disposition and potential also found that you could handle a sex and species change with a greater sense of control then your friend and thusly the Tfmr (that's what it sounded like) made you female."
This helped to explain a lot, but a Tfnr?However he continued.
"The police officer had been paid to chase you and get you away from the Fair thusly starting you on your way to acclimating to your new forms and their abilities."
"I knew you would want to find out what happened and so would eventually look for me and the Fair, then I would tell you enough for you to let me follow you to your current home."
"By that time you arrived here you would have become somewhat proficient in your new forms and be ready to handle the truth, having a family just made things easier, not only have you shown that humans can handle the change, but you have gone beyond what we thought you would, superseded our expectations." "However... I digress..."
"We did not worry about you harming the officer, again the device I used showed that you would not I was however surprised when you turned his car over, he was as well."
I wanted to ask about the officer but he saw... I never had a chance...
"Yes he's OK but was a bit upset about his damaged car... after I explained about your new abilities he quickly relaxed as it could have been a lot worse."
Yes it could have... I looked at Elden he just shrugged...
At this point I needed to ask a question "he understood? then does that mean he's been changed to?..."
"No, he is just as human as you once were... he feels that if earth is accepted his job will become so much easier and the need for so much law enforcement will no longer be needed, he can retire knowing he helped save the planet."
"The doctor on the other paw had been informed to expect you two, why do you think he was so able and ready to help you..."
At this point I interrupted "because he was a veterinarian as well as ahuman doctor" he was expecting this interruption and so continued when I finished...
"No... but close."
"He is not really from earth, but another transformee like you, his species is a race of healers that wants to join the community in this galaxy and volunteered to be placed here on earth to show that his race could heal and work within' alien civilizations and thusly become a productive member of our community."
"He also kept me up to date on your acclimation, giving me information that my devices were unable to... no earth doctor would have been able to so quickly give you information like he did, unless they had some idea of what they were talking about, how could any earth doctor know that?"
"I believe him and his people are worthy and so will give my nod-vote to the council in favor of letting his people and their civilization join the Galactic Community with all the privileges and rights this entails."
Dr. Burt got up and started to cry "thank you for that, my people and I will be forever grateful" he sniffled "these human bodies are capable of so much emotion, it will be interesting to see how this planet and its people handle the change when its offered to them."
"Citizen you are an inspiration to your people, and I will make sure to let them know."
The doctor then sat down still teary eyed... then timidly raised his hand.
"Yes?" this from Drevon.
"Can I go back home now? I wish to see my family... I must admit that It's been fun as a human but I wish to be myself again."
"It's ok I understand, not everyone can choose to live on another planet, that's also part of the test, any planets people who wish to stay on in different forms shows that their planet and people are healthy."
The doctor stood up to leave "I need to go get ready and plan on how I say goodby to this village and these people... oh by the way if I ever meet you on another world you may not recognize me but i'll know you and then there are things I would love to show you... i'll be seeing you later.
He went out the door and closed it behind him... a few seconds later we heard him laugh loudly then quickly silence himself.
Drevon continued.
"...All going or all staying would show the planet would need more time and perhaps not fit into the galactic community properly, then they would be made to forget and monitored again until they were ready."
"What about Flo?" I said.
"Yes what about me?" the first words she had spoken in a while, she looked a bit confused.
"Flo was a happy discovery by the doctor when he got to the village he found that her profile showed she would be a good candidate for the eventual arrival of you two."
Me and my mate both looked at her in serious way... Drevon seeing this quickly interjected...
"No she did not know this, we felt it would be better this way so as not to accidentally tip you off... we needed you to believe you were on your own, and from all intent and purposes you were."
"The monitor said you were surviving and so I knew that eventually I would see you again, please do not be angry... you have not been controlled or manipulated but a great help to your people... you now have some serious decisions to make."
"The forms we chose for you, my people, were the closest to forms already on your planet so that changing you would not be a total shock."
"It shocked us enough!" me and Elden said... again Renai was interrupted from her feeding, this time however she just looked at me and yawned then went to sleep, he continued.
"Yes but not enough to give up, you fought it and acclimated yourself to it, you showed that your people were worthy and as such I will give ascent to the council to have Earth in the Star system of Sol accepted as members of the galactic community with all the privileges and rights this entails... welcome."
It felt like we all blushed the room seemed to warm up, Renai continued to sleep peacefully.
Drevon was however not finished...
"There are lifeforms out there that defy description, and some that can be described but defy understanding, imagine if you had been a Kifstu, a lifeform from the planet Nil in the star system of Mish, ten meters long they are, with many tenticles." "Green and orange, with no definable shape and subsisting on calcite." They play a sport whereby molecules are brought together molded like clay then thrown into a black hole held in a stasis field."
"The field is located on their planets third moon, pretty weird huh?"
"They would not have fit on your earth no matter what we could do, they are just to alien even in thought and changing their shape would not change their minds.. but I digress..."
"When we place a different lifeform onto a planet in the manner of altering some of that planets members into the aliens we have a purpose."
"There is some link on a primitive level that lets those changed quickly acclimate by making the change as similar as possible to a lifeform on their planet, the closest to our race on your earth is a family of Marsupials known as Red Kangaroos..."
"Again I am wandering from my point..."
"So we place the most recognizeable lifeforms on the planet first, if a species can handle these differences, then the ability to handle more extreme ones becomes possible.... like a child taking its first steps..."
"As for the Kifstu, they have one of the best understandings of molecules in this part of the galaxy infact from them we get some of our technology for the process of transformation."
"So alien and monstrous at first sight becomes intelligent and helpful once you know them, they have poetry and music of their own type." "Some of it can even bend time..."
"You have a phraze here on earth..." "Never judge a book by its cover" "in the galactic community that is an everyday fact of life and something you will need to always keep in mind."
"Do you want to be returned to our human selves?"
We were shocked "You mean that is possible?" from both me and Elden.
"Yes very."
"What about our child?."
"She will be raised on our home planet while your memories will be altered, a timeline will be implanted where no transformation occurred and a year has passed." Me and my mate looked at our child and thought about it for only a couple of seconds "we do not want to go back, we have a family and now a life, it was for the best and now we wish to stay this way" we said in unison.
Then I continued "we now have a planet to see, and a people to meet, I was afraid Renai would have to grow up here on earth alone, never having met her own kind, and honestly we didn't think we ever would."
"Excellent" Drevon enthused "I was hoping you would say that, I thought you might be angry with me for not asking first and choose to go back... you have made my work worthwhile."
"We are a good people and I think the earth will be a good partner in our Galactic community."
