Deep in the forest Artemis hunted with her silver bow, her pack of dogs keeping watch for strange men that followed her. She aimed, pulling back the silver arrow and lining up her shot with a large buck. Beside her she noticed Apollo arriving, he grabbed her arrow to stop her from shooting. The buck continued to graze.

"Sister dear, have you nothing better to do? Why don't you settle down instead of playing hard to get?" Apollo exclaimed.

"I'd rather live free than to be tied down by marriage, besides, I do not play hard to get. I honestly want nothing to do with the mortal men that follow me." Artemis jerked her bow and arrow away from Apollo with a frustrated expression.

"Well why not marry me? Be my wife? Together we can rule the sun and the moon, night and day. You would still be free to hunt and roam the forest as you please." Apollo had always loved his sister, he was always jealous of the mortal men that wanted her for their own.

"Apollo you really get on my nerves, why don't you go and propose to one of the nymphs or a mortal woman?"

"Because they are nothing compared to you, don't you see? Hunters, farmers, men of all kinds follow you because of your beauty. Because there is no beauty greater than your own."

"Leave me be Apollo, I want nothing to do with you or any other man. The only man I ever actually cared about was Orion, and I'll never forgive you for tricking me into killing him." Apollo was always jealous of the friendship Orion and Artemis had, he smirked at the thought of Orion being killed.

"You still see him in the sky, in the stars don't you?" Apollo gestured towards Orion's constellation.

"Enough of your ignorance. Leave now or I will deprive the land of your sunlight." By now Artemis' dogs had made a complete barrier between her and Apollo, their faced twisted into snarling ferocious expressions.

"You don't have the power to deprive anything of sunlight. The sun is mine, your pathetic moon doesn't even compare to the massive size of the sun. Your moon is so helpless that it needs to steal a bit of my sunlight to brighten the night sky. You are nothing without me." Apollo laughed, as frustrated as he was. He didn't care for Artemis' stubborn behavior.

"Don't underestimate me brother! Just wait and see, tomorrow when the sun is highest in the sky, I will deprive the world of your sunlight." Artemis turned, swiftly disappearing into the forest with her dogs trailing behind her.

"Fine then," Apollo shouted, "If you can take the sunlight from the earth I will never bother you again! But if my sun shines brightly the entire day until nightfall, you will be my bride!" Apollo waited, a gust of wind rushed by with the words clung to it, he heard his answer..."Deal."

The morning had passed and the sun was reaching its peak. Artemis stood on a hill, watching the sun as if she was concentrating. Apollo stood next to her, his arms crossed while he was laughing.

"Looking at the sun will only hurt your eyes sister, not make it go away." He nudged her with his elbow to get her attention. She ignored him, still concentrating. A large shadow cast upon the ground, sweeping over the valleys, small villages and forests. A dark figure gradually swept across the sun until it froze, blocking the sun's light out completely. Artemis looked at Apollo who was speechless. She laughed just as he did when he doubted her.

"Where is your precious sun now Apollo? Like I said, don't underestimate me, or my beautiful moon." Artemis nudged Apollo, waiting to see his reaction. Apollo kicked at the ground, his face was angry and red.

"FINE!" he yelled "I will leave you alone, just bring back the sunlight before any of the other gods notice it." Artemis had won, she could tell Apollo was trying to avoid being embarrassed in front of his father or any other gods. Again the dark moon swept over the sun, leaving it and letting the light shine down again. Artemis left with a smile, while Apollo threw a fit all the way back to Olympus.

Every time Artemis and Apollo have an argument, Artemis blocks the sun's light until Apollo gives in. This is what we call a solar eclipse.
