Future Vision: Chapter 1
Year: 2502
The war had been as terrible as it was unintended, with results that neither condemned nor congratulated its existence. The aliens that had first come to their planet in ships larger than a kilometer long and were humanoid in form, not much different from the humans that inhabited it with the exception with implants that had been imbedded. They were friendly but distant, and stayed out of any problems that revolved around the planets inhabitants. At first they were feared for their incredible and advanced technology, and for the fact the first ship they brought down to the planet was over 3 kilometers long. That was however not the most impressive ship they had.
Little by little Humans and the Alien race, which for the sake of Humans capacity of knowledge and speech, called themselves "intergalactic travelers". After 6 months they had helped cure so many problems that humanity as a whole was having problems eradicating. AIDs was not longer existent in any life form on the planet, Renewable energy was made more efficient and productive removing old energy sources such as fossil fuels, and they helped isolate genetics that scientist could you to eliminate problems and mental diseases in children before they were born allowing every individual leading the life they wanted and eliminating problems such as ADHD, mental retardation, and SIDS. Although Humanity had some ethical problems with some of the advancements, it was agreed upon at large that humanity could progress faster if such things were no longer an issue.
The aliens however refused to share their technology as far as space travel, explaining in their final statement before they left "We feel that if we did introduce such a great advancement to your race, we would create an imbalance that we cannot foresee the consequences of. We have cured many and eradicated harm, but that was done because you are contained to this solar system and interacting with other positional existing sentient beings."
As Humanity looked up in the sky they saw a large ship far bigger than 10 kilometers appear with a large bright vortex trailing behind its mammoth sized engines. The ship parked itself in front of the sun blocking the entire light of earth. They saw the vast size of the armada including many not before seen smaller ships group up around the behemoth. All the small ships appeared to go inside making more room for the larger ships to get closer. The Behemoth in all actuality looked like a squished skyscraper and was very flat with subtle curves instead of angles, and in the same speediness that it appeared, it left leaving behind hundreds of what humanity called "Jump Portals" in their wake closing simultaneously with bright flashes of light.
All hope of space travel was not lost though. As it happened the first ship, which was small in comparison only being around 200 meters long, to enter the atmosphere failed and cashed in the center of Alaska. The Aliens explained it was a test ship that they used so they could calibrate their ships engines and thrusters to be able to operate in Earth's atmosphere, and further explained that the ship was damaged at not worth repairing after humanity asked why they didn't use something that wouldn't seem like such a big waste.
Humans were able to recover most of the ship, and it seemed to be in what they could consider "Better than hoped" shape. Its hull was made out of something far stronger than what they were familiar with, and even diamond infused saw blades could not scratch it. Heat, no matter how hot, did nothing, extreme cold did no better, and beating on it with the heaviest duty press in the world did little to deform it. After about 1 years of trying to figure the atomic and material compound of the material as well as try to manipulate it, Humanity gave up on it and tossed it in their growing "fuck with it later" pile.
There was one thing though human could wrap their mind around, but just barely. They managed to recover the gunnery systems of the ship and though it seemed fairly rudimentary for such an advanced race, it was fairly technologically advanced. The missile launchers that were on the ship were easily recognizable, but the guts of the launchers and scientist stumped for months. The actual guns were even more confusing. The aliens called the "Particle Blasters" and explained the humans how they could fire liquefied solid matter with the sudden introduction of high energy magnetism. That didn't sound too complicated, but now that they had the actual weapon at hand, which itself was larger than as a luxury sedan, they could see just how complicated rudimentary technology could be.
As the years past into 2507 and humans gained understanding of the miracles of science, they began experimenting in a large variety of subject. Some scientists starting making the first prototypes of the weapons that were salvaged from the ship. They however could not make them the same no matter how hold they tried and ended up making another weapon based on the blasters initial design and purpose. They called it the railgun, a longer range but less damaging of a weapon that fired slightly smaller quantities of liquefied solid matter and a faster rate of speed. While being accurate at long range, it was too slow and big to track close targets making its falloff range somewhat horrid. However all in all it was a step in the right direction.
Other scientist began stretching the limits of genetics, trying to fuse characteristics from other races or animals into a being. Although the Aliens only showed them how to merely turn off or on genes, or simply remove one from a specific area and replaced it with a more desirable one from a donor in the same area, Humans felt the need to widen their skills.
By this time most ethical standard were abandoned for curiosity and advancement. They wanted to become just like the aliens and roam through space. However the only thing that was holding them back was making a suitable space craft. They understood now that in order to truly survive in space, vessels must be large and accommodating. The problem really wasn't so much as building such craft but more of the how to get it up there and develop engines. They understood from the dissection of the Alien vessel that the engines were driven by a fusion reactor the constantly pushed energy into a large capacitor, much like a power supply in a computer puts power into all the circuitry that rely on capacitors to keep the level even. That part was understood fairly well and Humans could wrap their mind around it. The part that made the engines tick was a cluster fuck. They knew that the fusion reactor diverted power to a series of tanks containing Hydrazine, superheat it to thousands of degrees until it became so pressurized it made its way through pressurized piping systems and self ignited in the main engines thruster apparatus. It sounded easy enough, but Humans could not develop strong enough materials to hold such pressure or heat, and it required more energy than they could effectively produce.
As more years past into the end of the year 2509, Humans had developed the first space fairing vessel. While it was still limited to in solar system travel, It was now faster, stronger, and most importantly armed. Though the core mechanics of the ship were far more basic than that found on the Alien's ship, it used the same properties and mechanics to achieve desirable results. The first ship that was proved stable was given a fitting name rather than a series of numbers painted to the hull, and treated it like it was an ambassador to the world. They called it "Temptation", and although it looked truly to be a have finished ship from the outside, it was rock solid. Human's couldn't get the necessary power needed from a fusion reactor by itself yet, so they attached large solar wind panels to the sides of the ship giving it sailboat shaped sails. The ship itself was about 245 meter in length, and shaped very much like a cruise ship from the 21st century. The ship comprised of only carbon fiber and titanium for its structure, and had a total of 4 75mm railguns attached its sides, 2 on each.
The first true space vessel was not their only pride and joy, as humans now lived among another sentient species, one that they created and played God with. The new form of life was called Homo-Vari, nammed after an Italian scientist created the first livable one in a lab. His name was Professor John A. Mork, and the first successful Vari was uncaningly named "Faith". Although Faith was more thought of as a female's name, it seemed to fit this particular Male Lion's cause. Faith was a little over 2.1 meters tall, and weighed around 135 Kilos.
Humans put Faith through all sorts of various tests and he proved to far exceed them at a rate that no other human on the planet could. Faith was faster, more agile, patient, tactical, taller, faster, and more intelligent that could ever be hoped for. Faith unfortunately died after his 22nd birthday due to genetic miscoding which resulted, in no fault to the human, in 1 part of the DNA strand, the animal side, in each of his cells to degrade faster than its counterpart. Humans had done their job right as far as genetic coding went, they just didn't foresee a few things that needed to be taken care of in order to create a more permanent being. They honestly didn't expect him to live past childhood since Human far outlived lions by no less than 60% longer, and didn't know for sure what the result would be once the molecular structures were fused. Technology while Faith was alive had improved a good deal, and genetic manipulation was at a peak. Scientist were planning on making a few dozen more Vari, both male and female when disaster struck.
New Aliens approached their planet in ships that were dark colored and had weird design characteristics such as spikes and rough plating attached to their hulls. These new ships weren't nearly as advanced looking and as glamorous, but they didn't need to be. Around 400 of them varying in size orbited the planet for a full 13 hours, before bombarding them with torpedoes and bombs. They aimed for all the major cities first, ironically wiping China off the map in less than an hour's time, than split their bombardment to all the other major living capitals.
Humanity was not lost though, and their once great guest came back sporting a fleet of no less than 1000 ships ranging from their familiar 10 Kilometer long ship, now deemed "Mothership", to ships that were from what observatory could guess around 60 meters long. Huge flashes of Light flashed in space and the sun was once again cover by the behemoth and humanity could their honored guest defending them. Feeling in dept to their saviors, Certified pilots were ordered into Space craft and ordered to assist their guests. There were only 20 ships at the time, the biggest being their flagship "Temptation" and they were far less advanced than either of the two forces ships, and smaller. However what they were however were nimble, hard to target, and fast hitting even if they didn't do a whole lot of damage.
The pilots of the craft agreed to go after the smaller ships that they could at least damage rather than the vessels that outsized them by more than 100%, and focus fire and try to destroy them. To their amazement it worked perfectly and their saviors were more than happy to sent drones, automated small fighter craft roughly about 27 meter long, to assist them. The drones were a good deal faster and far more nimble than their craft, but they lacked raw firepower and their basic railguns made up for. It wasn't long however for the enemy to figure out what was destroying some of their smallest fighters and send their own drones.
As the battle raged on, the Pilots started to notices things about their savior ships that they hadn't before. As the orbited a large ship roughly 3 kilometer long, they witnessed a bright blue field disperse around their shield radius. They knew that their saviors ship had shields which protected the overall ship, but had no idea what this dispersing field was. As the pilots zoomed in to their enemies ships, they seemed not to have shields. Rather their no so artistically designed armor plates seemed to protect their ships equally as well.
What seemed like a sure victory after 20 minutes of fighting the unthinkable happened. A large shockwave appeared bringing behind it a ship and a fleet that outmatched and outgunned what their saviors had brought. The Human Pilots were to scared out of their minds to notice that their ships were being towed in by slightly larger vessels to the Mothership, and the realization only it them when they ships landed inside on the dock in a heavy clang.
As they clambered out of their ships they noticed for the first time that only 9 of them remained, and that while their flagship was one, the wingy bits had been shot off. They also noticed dozen of the Aliens vessels off loading Human passengers, who looked more amazed than confused and distressed. One of the pilots pointed to their planet that he could see through the hanger's forcefield door and yelled that it was getting smaller. As everyone looked back at it, it seemed to vanish faster than what was possible.
When the ship finally came to a stop, what was left of humanity was crushed. All together there where only about 5000 humans that were transported off the planet, the vast majority of which seemed intelligent. During their short 2 minute confusion they had been told nothing, and the only thing they knew for sure was that their planet was doomed.
A few minutes after the ship stopped, their saviors' leader came into the docking bay holding their ends down in dismay, and humanity finally got the message. They as a species were either doomed to find a new home, or fade from existence.
"We are deeply sorry about your planet. We saved what we could for you, and did our best to gather as many of you as we felt fit to insure your survival. However not all is bad, and we have a present for you. We as a great civilization once held great power and owned more space than one can fathom, with habitable planets and even moons. We have decided some time ago that such power was too much for a single sentient species. We were in search for the right new owners for are legacy, and you are it. We have watched you from afar and even on your own planet, seen you take something you had no idea or clue how to work and still make a breakthrough in less than a decade. We also know about the Vari project you created, and how much it meant to a lot of people. We have taken the liberty to preserve your past so you may have it for the future, and that you may use all the technology we are leaving behind to accomplish such goals. Look now behind you, that structure is called a jump gate and it leads to your new home."
With that the Mothership parked in the middle of the structure and with sudden blinding light and the feeling of the artificial gravity dissipating, it activated and sent the Guardians and what was left of humanity through it. Upon coming out the other side somewhere far away from where they just were, they were greeted with hundreds of ships just outside the docking bay force fields.
"We have modified these ships to pilot in much the same way as the vehicles on your old planet. They are fit and armed, and each has an instruction video for whoever decides to Pilot it." Humanity gawked in amazement but said nothing. "These are for your brave soldiers who fought by our side" the leader announced as 9 vast ships came into view at unrealistic speeds and came to a halt with even less realism. They were slightly smaller than the Mothership, but looked just as threatening. They shared a design though that cannot be easily put into words, and are best to say that they looked very aquatic and had very little symmetry to them. "These are known as Guardians, and they do just that"
Before Humanity could respond, they were all transported to the ships in even numbers, except for the brave Pilots who got their ships all to their selves. Humanity didn't even get a chance to thank their Alien friends, or for that matter say goodbye. Right after they were transported, the "Gods" were gone, and the Gate leading them to this place in pieces. Furthermore, and something unexpected to say the least, they were left with a few hundred Vari that originated from every major successful species on Earth.
