DAY 0

Wassup?

Hi everyone, I'm Christopher, and I'm 18 years old, and today, ladies and gentlemen, I'm going to be embarking on the biggest adventure like EVER!

That's right folks, this is going to be my last blog entry before the thing that I've been talking about is finally going to happen! Even now I'm staring at the ticket I printed out from the computer, that says that I've got seat 47C reserved for me on my name on flight AY006, non-stop from JFK Airport to Helsinki, Finland!!! Woot!

I can't believe that my old man actually managed to pull off this whole exchange student thing through his pals at the Lions Club, but guess that's what you get when you have a big business and really know all the right people around. Guess that's how he managed to secure a spot for me in the exchange program, and not in some boring shit place, but come on, Finland! Can you even get further away from the US than that? I mean, I had to look it up on the map when dad told me that the letter had come in and that my application for an European exchange had been approved, and that I was going to be staying in some country called Finland! What's that then? Fineland? Good land! Woot!

First I was like what the hell's that but then I went to Wikipedia for a bit and found out where the country is located and what it's all about. First off, it's really far away, I mean, the flight's going to be like nine hours, and then I'll be literally at the other side of the world in the middle of a culture that's totally unlike mine! But the great thing according to Wikipedia is that almost everyone speaks English, so I'm gonna be getting the really exotic experience of a totally different culture, but it's not like going to some weird ass place like India where you can't understand a single word about what's going on. How cool is that!!!!! And they've also got lots of nature there and all sorts of cute wildlife, and people live in houses that are almost like ours, and everything's really modern and cool, which is also cool, because I love my cellphone and my internet, and Wikipedia said that everyone uses internet there! That's just like here in the US! At least I'll be able to update this blog, and tell you all about how it's going to go out there.

I also got this letter from my host family, and they've got this kid who's my age and called Karo ,and I think that I'm going to be hitting off with him really well, because he's 18 years old too and goes to high school and plays computer games and generally sounded like a cool dude on the letter. Then he's got a little brother too who's 14, and then he's got a dad and mum and they live in their own house, and I even saw a picture and it looked huge! I can't believe that you can live in a house that big right in the middle of a big city, but then again, guess they must be really rich to be able to live in such a big house right there in the capital city. They even had trees everywhere around it on the picture, as if they lived in a park or something! I bet that having that many trees would cost a fortune in DC, but guess being rich is different in Finland as well. I'm sure it's all going to be very cool, and from what I heard, Helsinki is also a really nice city where you can get to do a lot of cool things. The dude Karo was already going on about all the fun stuff we could do, like going to see all the malls and shops and maybe seeing the zoo and the amusement park and rollercoasters and maybe even go on a cruise where you can always have a lot of fun - and he said that because out there everyone is allowed to drink and do stuff once they're 18, so woot! for foreign laws, that's so cool!

I've been packing all day, I've been trying to decide what kind of stuff I need to have there. The pictures I saw of Finland did seem that it's pretty cold out there, but the letter said that summer is really hot this year and they've got really warm there, though I'm not pretty sure how warm 24 Celsius is. That's probably pretty hot for them, but at least I'm a wolf, and plenty of Finns are wolves, too, so guess a wolf knows what's a good temperature for a wolf. Did I remember to mention that I'm going to be staying with a lynx family? Guess I didn't remember to mention that yet, so now you know too, heheh. But yeah, I'm also packing my swimming trunks, because they've got the lakes everywhere, and Helsinki is on seaside, so I'm sure there's gonna be a lot of opportunities for taking a good dip in the water. I hope it's going to be really sunny, my fur looks so nice in sunlight, and I've been told that I look great wearing sunglasses too. Woot, hopefully that's gonna get some dudes to look at me as well, if you know what I mean. From what I've seen on those pictures, there isn't a shortage of good-looking Finnish boys, and you know how the exchange students always get treated on comedy movies...I bet I'm in for interesting times with the Finnish hunks who want to see a glimpse of what this wolf is packing. Besides, going that many thousand miles away will make it sure that nobody's ever gonna hear of any misdeeds I'm up to there in that foreign country, and if that includes fooling around a bit with hot foreign dudes, I think that will suit me just fine, hahah!

Seriously, folks, I can't tell you exactly how excited I am about this, I've wanted to get so far away from all this for so long that now that it's really coming true I can't quite wrap my mind around it. That's so fantastic! I promise to take a lot of pictures and share those with you guys, but right now I think I'm going to have to be going out, I have to get to the taxi and get to the airport soon.

See you on the other side of the world!
