Prologue

Once long ago, a vile man was banished from a village for sorcery, his deeds having killed several others. Running to the nearby villages proved to be futile for him, as they too cast him away out of fear. The word of his deeds had spread like fire in the small villages and the villagers were not willing to let him stay even the night with them, leaving the man alone in the forest with nothing to protect him. As the night began to draw in around him, the forest's wolves began to circle him. Their bellies lean with hunger and their eyes dark with hate for man.

As he watched the cheery fires of the villages his eyes mirrored that of the accursed wolves, his lips silently mouthing a curse, one that would cut the villages off from the rest of the world. The outsiders forgot about them, the forest they were in vanished from peoples minds. People wandering into the forest were met with a barrier that made them turn about lost and confused. Likewise those inside the barrier forgot about the outside world. All they knew was of the other villages and the forest around them. If someone wandered too far the barrier prevented them from leaving, making them become lost, scattering their minds.

The vile deed of cursing the humans over, he turned his mind to the wolves around him and started a new spell. The wolves began to grow, their bodies soon the same size or bigger than the sorcerer. Their eyes turned from blackened with hate to a gold, a eerily glowing gold to reflect the curse being cast. As soon as one curse was cast the man began on a second, shifting the bodies of the massive wolves. Back legs lengthened, the bones growing thicker to support the weight of their new bodies. Fur on their heads began to grow, lenghtening into hair, paws turned into large feet and hands. Front legs became arms, the shoulders moving out and back giving them a almost human body frame. Last to change were their minds, gaining in knowlege and size. They could understand the words of man, and growing more still they could outsmart the minds of man.

The sorcerer laughed, an eerie sound as it bounced off of the forests trees. He gifted to his new creatures a bloodlust, the craving to dominate man as they had once been dominated by them. As the sorcerers eyes watches the fires of the villages still burning in the night his mind twisted more and he cursed his wolves. They would transform back into a giant wolf during certain moons, and remain so for a week. During this time they would crave to breed, but would not desire their own kind. Instead they would desire the females of man, taking them from their homes and filling them with the next generation of their own cursed kind. To add to the terror of the humans the wolves would mark them as a mate, the one bite that would not harm them. The marked females would want, no crave their mates offspring, so ensuing the continuation of their kind.

With his revenge layed out he turned himself over to his creatures, letting them tear him apart as their first taste of human blood, to create the desire for more. As his screams echoed in the forest so too did the howls and growls of the new animals, and as the villagers heard them their hearts were gripped with a dark fear like nothing before. And so began a cycle of fear and hiding, a cycle they were helpless to stop. The cycle of the Wolvens howl.
