_ Skywolf Mysteries _ _ Case File # 001 _ _ The Lost one _

It was a bright clear summer night in the city, the sky was cloudless and dotted with stars. The moon hung low in the sky shining serenely down at the people walking along outside of the theater. A pair of teen wolf morph's stepped out of the theater arm in arm looking as though nothing in the world could spoil their happiness. Sadly they were wrong, the night was not as peaceful as it seemed. As they began the short walk back to the male's car several men, humans and all drunk, stepped infront of them shouting at them, the words lost in the din of noise, and the slurring of their voices. The drunken men were all armed with pipes and broken bottles, they attacked brutally. They lashed out at both of the young wolves the male stepped infront of his date doing his best to protect his mate but he was out numbered and un armed and soon both of them were surrounded , the humans beating them both relentlessly. The male did his best to shield his mate with his body but soon he was overwhelmed just as the sirens were heard blasting down the street.

5 years later....

The wolfess woke with a start sitting up in hir bed panting hir eyes wide, the dream again, no, not a dream; a night mare would be more accurate. Shi threw the sheets off of hir body exposing hir body. Shi always slept completely nude, shi looked down at hirself for a moment, shi was average height being only 5'4". But that was the only thing that was average about the beautiful wolf. Shi had dark black fur that had a light blue tinge to it in the light; hir bellyfur, breast fur, muzzle, and sheath were all covered in soft cream colored fur that also had a light blue tinge to it. Shi was a hermaphrodite so shi had a rather plump canine sheath hiding hir member, and below that a very plump set of testicles that hid hir female sex. Shi got up out of bed brushing hir short black hair out of hir eyes looking up at the mirror over hir dresser shi saw the scar that covered hir right eye. The dream wasn't just a dream, it was a memory for hir. One shi couldn't escape, no matter how much shi wished shi could. It had happened just after graduation, shi and hir mate had gone out to eat to celebrate following it up with a movie. Everything had been going perfect that night, but when they exited the theater hir life had turned upside down with the attack. After that shi had changed just like hir life. After over a year of surgery and physical therapy shi changed direction with hir life, shi began to study criminal science , training in martial arts investigative techniques . After college shi was licenced as a private detective, shi spent a bit of time working with other detectives before shi was able to gather the money to open hir own office.

Shi got out of bed looking around the rather large loft that shi lived in. It was located right above hir office which was convinent for hir, allowing hir to be close to hir office and hir home all day when shi needed to be. Hir loft was rather expensivly decorated, hir grandmother had left hir a lot of expensive furniture and artwork when she had passed away two years ago and so shi had a very lavish looking place. Shi walked over to hir dresser and pulled open a drawer. Shi took out a rather tight black top, the back of which had silver tribal markings on it, it was one of hir favorites. Shi put the top on and buttoned it up, the soft cloth hugged hir bust making them look larger then they were, which they weren't small to begin with so this was quite an acomplishment. Shi opened up another Drawer and pulled out the matching skirt that went with the top. Shi pulled it on, the denim skirt showing just a bit of her rather plump balls so shi pulled a thong out of the drawer, silver lace, and put it on. Checking hir appearance in the mirror shi was satisfied with the look. Shi pulled on a sleeveless trench coat that was made out of soft leather and had a cream blue cresent moon on the back. Shi reached out for the black cowgirl hat that shi always wore, it had been a gift to hir from someone shi'd helped, on the brim of the hat hanging down was a silver charm in the shape of a cresent moon. Shi placed the hat on hir head, hir wolf ears poking through the holes made there for hir ears. The charm on the hat giving a soft chime as shi did this. The charm was rather odd, it would give off a loud chime when shi put it on, but beyond that it moved quietly, but shi never really questioned it too much.

After getting dressed shi walked out of hir room and into the living room picking up hir PDA and taking a look at hir messages. There was ofcourse the usual long rant from hir mother about how little hir father was taking care of himself. Shi rolled hir eyes and smiled. Hir mother had turned into a health nut recently and expected hir father to turn himself into a health nut with her. Ofcourse hir father thought she was just going through a mid life crisis, Shi just kept out of it. Shi put hir PDA in hir coat pocket and picked up hir id and detective badge. Shi smiled as shi looked at hir name, Kailani Skywolf. Hir birth name was Kailani Page, but shi had changed it to Skywolf not long after the incident. Hir name Kailani meant Sky princess. Shi had decided to go along with the theme of hir name when shi changed hir family name, hir parents surpisingly supported the change of hir name, saying that they only wanted hir to be happy.

Putting hir ID and hir badge into hir pocket shi headed for the stairs to hir office. Shi checked the clock on the wall as shi walked past hir desk down stairs, it was 7:00am. Shi looked up from hir desk and sure enough, standing outside of the door, waiting paitently on the sidewalk was a rather medium height gray Squirrel Morph. His name was Christopher Morel, however shi just called him Chris. He was always there at the same time every day never late...shi had to get him a girlfriend to break this streak of perfect attendance..he was making hir look bad as shi had slept in several times due to rather late nights. Shi walked over to the door and unlocked it for him. He was rather lithe and toned under his gray fur his huge bushy tail always twitching. Like most squirrels he was rarely still. But his special skills made him extremely vaulable to hir. He was a computer expert who could find info with just the smallest pieces of information, if the info exsisted anywhere in the digital world then it wasn't safe from this Squirrel.

"You know Chris it wouldn't kill you to be late one time." Shi said with a grin for hir co-worker, his offical job was working the desk and phones taking cases but he was another source of information for hir, shi worked the streets he worked the web. He just laughed and shook his head."Yeah and then you could feel better about all those days you stay out late and sleep in when your in the middle of a case." He said with a smirk. Shi stuck hir tongue out at him before walking back to hir desk. Shi stretched out just a bit and looked down at hir paper work, Shi had just finished up the income reports for hir office and at the moment shi was between cases so shi didn't really have anything to do at the moment..ofcourse thinking that would be the signal for the phone to ring. Chris walked over to his desk and picked up the phone."Skywolf Mysteries, you got a mystery? We'll solve it!" He said in his usually way to chipper morning voice. Shi rolled hir eyes"I wish you would stop answering the phone like that, it makes us sound like a mystery book store or something. " He just stuck his tongue out in reply to hir comment. He listened intently nodding and making small talk with who ever was on the other end while shi signed the last of hir finance reports so shi could get hir pay from the police precient for the work shi had recently done for them in a murder case.

When Chris hung up the phone he had a grim look on his face."This one could be tricky Kai, the cops are involved but their opinion doesn't jive with what the client thinks." He said and shi groaned, this meant that shi would be caught between the police and hir client through out the while case and one or both parties could work against hir in solving this case if they didn't like hir opinion. But that was just one of the downsides to hir job. Chris just shook his head."Yeah it gets worse, this is a missing kid case, the police are saying run away, however hir parents don't belive that their cub would run away, they suspect foul play." Hir ears perked up at the 'hir' pronoun. "The child is a herm?" Shi asked curiously,"Give me more details please." Shi said hir eyes narrowing.

Chris nodded his eyes locking onto hir's."Yep as you've probably guessed, the cub in question is a chakat, herms aren't that common among morph species as you know yourself." He said, Chris knew that shi was a herm, esepcially since shi made no bones about hiding it from anyone, but there were some who detested Hermaphrodites and would attack them for being who and what they were. Shi nodded indicating that Chris should continue."The parents are Chakat Summer-Rain and hir mate a Foxtaur named Mattech, the cub's name is Dark-Night, they live not far from here actually." This got hir rather curious, this was rather an odd neighborhood to try a kidnapping. The police precent was less then a block from hir office and this area was usually thick with cops. Something odd was deffinitly going on here. Shi got to hir feet and Chris held up a piece of paper with the adress on it and shi looked at him."Dig up every scrap of info you can on the parents, cub, and anyone they are connected to." Shi said as shi walked out the door of the office.

Outside of the office people came and went even at this early hour, this city hardly ever slept, there was always something happening everwhere in this bustling concrete jungle. It often amazed hir how people could walk around so calmly sometimes with all the spreading tension that was arriving between the Federation and the Anti-furry groups. So many people just didn't care, thinking that the problems could never find them. Shi had thought that way too once, but shi had learned better. Shi touched the scar on hir eye and sighed. Shi just hoped that the chakat cub Dark-Night hadn't learned this horrible lesson too. Shi looked at the adress and decided that it would be better to just walk that way, it was litterally only two blocks away so it would be a waste of fule to drive.

Shi was half way to the clients house when shi heard something from a bench that made hir stop and hir ears perk up through hir hat; it was two cat morphs, one snowy white, the other a orange tabby. Shi leaned against the wall of a shop and tilted hir hat down so that they wouldn't be able to see hir face clearly as shi listened"I'm just saying that I am worried Marry." The Orange tabby female said in a slightly high pitched panicy tone."The news doesn't cover it much but things are getting worse. There have been too many attacks by anti fur groups lately. It's looking like the Gene Wars all over again." The white feline morph just shook hir head."The Federation will find what's causing this unrest, they will protect us like they always have." She said in a soothing tone."Just have a bit of Faith Daiana. After all you have been outside all day and no one has tried to attack you yet, it's not as bad as you think." Kailani stood back up and began to walk again hir eyes slightly grimmer. So not everyone was turning a blind eye to the growing tension it seems.

When shi reached the home of Chakat Summer-Rain and hir mate Mattech shi saw something that was going to make hir job a lot harder. The police were still there for one and a particular detective was standing infront of the worried parrents and seemed to be brow beating them. Shi sighed, the detective was a Doberman Morph and he was a good cop but he was also arrogant and hated hir with a passion that rivaled no other. Shi gave a soft growl under hir breath before taking a deep breath and crossing the yard to the parents."Shir Summer-Rain? Mattech? I am Kailani Skywolf you called my office requesting my services?" Shi asked interupting the Doberman, who's name was Detecive Doran McAndrew. Sadly he didn't even have a irish or scottish accent to make up for his nasty personality. The two parents looked greatful for hir arrival and the handsome dark red foxtaur nodded eagerly."Yes I was the one who called our cub is missing." But he was cut off from saying anymore by a angry growl from Detective McAndrew."Why did you call hir for a simple runaway case." He demanded of the foxtaur who gave the Doberman cop a look of shock at being berated for being a worried parent. This situation was going down hill fast. McAndrew looked at hir and growled."Get lost your not needed or wanted here. And if you go into my crime scene I will beat you sensless and have you arrested for tampering with evidence." Yup same old McAndrew shi thought to hirself

When shi spoke next hir eyes were as cold and unfeeling as ice, hir voice dripped with scorn and menace as shi took a step closer to the doberman detective. Shi had learned to intimidate from the best and McAndrew was nothing more then a rank amature compared to hir. Shi let the fur on the back of hir neck bristle and hir lip curl back in a snarl. Now normally by this point most would have run screaming into the distance from the obviously pissed wolf but one thing shi had to give to McAndrew, he might be a idiot dumb ass but he was no coward."Detective you have tried that before when we first met don't you remember? Not only did you wind up on the ground but when you tried to have me arrested for assaulting a officer, you wound up on the reciving end of a IAB investigation due to false arrest and Un nessacary force." Shi said as shi took another menacing step towards the cop."Now that is one black mark in your record, do you really want to make a habbit of it? I hear that IAB is not so forgiving of repeat offendrs." Now shi deffinitly had the overbearing detective sweating under his fur. Finally he cleared his throat and took a step backwards."Yes..well, you can carry on with your pathetic investigation just don't get in my way or I will have you thrown in jail for obstruction." He looked at the worried parents who's eyes were as wide as dinner plates from the unfolding scene between the two detectives "You have my number, please inform me if your cub tries to contact you." With that McAndrew left.

Kailani sighed and shook hir head as shi watched the detective go."You know he is a good cop, but he knows it and it's gone to his head, which is starting to show in his work lately." Shi said in an offhand voice as shi visibly relaxed, shi was making small talk to try and ease the parents tension, if they were relaxed around hir they gave more information; Summer-Rain was a rather beautiful chakat with silvery clouded fur from hir hair to hir paws , and white spots that mostly had the appearance of rain drops, all over hir body. The chakat managed to pick up on what Kailani was trying to do and visibly relaxed, chakats were known empaths and no doubt shi was attempting to sooth hir mate as well. Kailani looked at Summer and decided to ask the question that had been bothering hir since shi'd learned that the cub was a chakat."You can't feel your daughter at all? If anyone should be able to tell us where shi is it's you." Chakat mothers shared a special bond with their cubs, linked through their empathic natures a mother was always aware of their child's needs. Summer-Rain shook hir head."I know shi is alive I can feel that much but beyond that I can't feel where shi is, I can't even tell in what direction, it's like someone is trying to block the link we share." Shi said in a sad and worried tone. Shi also had the underlying tone of panic, of a chakat close to loosing it. Chakats could go rather primal when their cubs were in danger, from the ruffled and slightly strained appearance of Summer-Rain, shi may have already but actually come down from the surger of primal protective instinct when shi couldn't find hir cub that way."Did you try tracking hir by scent?" Kailani asked wanting to get the obvious questions out of the way first so that shi could move on to gathering the finer details

Mattech nodded seeming to relax enough to speak for the first time since the departure of the police."Yes we both did though Summer was rather, well shi went a bit nuts when Dark was taken. Shi knew instantly when their bond started to go fuzzy and, well shi just went nuts." He said sheepishly as though afraid Kailani would look down on the parents for falling apart at their cub's dissapearance. Shi just smiled reassuringly and motioned for him to continue. "When I finally caught up to hir shi was darting around the school grounds where Dark goes to school. Once I managed to get hir calmed down enough we called the cops, but the school grounds is where Dark's scent just seems to Vanish, there's no paw tracks nothing, no visible trail to follow after that." Kailani nodded though inside shi was confused. How could a cub's scent just vanish, shi knew that you could mask a scent but to completely erase it was impossible, yet someone had done so.

Shi sighed and looked at the worried parents,"Okay if we are going to get anywhere you need to start from the beginning when was the last time you saw Dark-Night?" Shi asked hir mind racing as shi listened, this was deffinitly not a normal case of Runaway, yet it wasn't a normal cub-napping either something else was going on here. It was Mattech who answered hir question though."Shi had gotten up earlier then normal for a Saturday, but shi wanted to practice for a big Soccer game that shi is playing in next week, shi is on the school Soccer team." The foxtaur explained."Summer and I were inside , I was getting ready for work and shi was cleaning up from breakfast. Next thing I know Summer is Snarling like a enraged panther and I don't see Dark anywhere." He said with a sigh. Kailani just nodded and then looked at Summer"Did you see anything when Dark Dissapeared?" the chakat just shook hir head a forlorn look on hir face"No, but I felt it the moment the bond went...quiet," Shi looked right into Kailani's eyes "Please find my cub." Shi pleaded. Kailani nodded wanting to look away from the pain that was etched in the poor mother's face, but shi didn't instead shi looked back into those desperate eyes."I give you my word I will find Dark."

As shi was walking back towards hir office to find out what Chris had found out for hir, and to decide where to start hir search for the missing cub a old man walking down the sidewalk stepped infront of hir, he was a human and all of his hair had long since turned grey with age, he was stooped with age and his skin was wrinkled and weathered. Before shi could ask him why he had stopped hir he spoke."You are not ready yet for what is to come Kailani," Shi started at the use of hir name, shi didn't know this man and wasn't sure how he knew hir but he wasn't giving hir time to think for he was still talking."This case will take you down a road to either destruction or happiness, but you can only walk the road of happiness if you grow stronger." Shi started to cut him off but before shi could he pushed past hir, when shi turned to follow he was lost in the crowd around hir. Shi looked around in alarm unable to even find the old man's scent...this was becoming weirder and weirder by the moment, and shi had a feeling that things were only going to get weirder......
