Shine from a Steel Moon

Part 1: City of Ashes

By: The Fantom Furr

Chapter One...

Standing on a steel beam over the almost beautiful L.A. lights that flickered and gleamed up and about the ageing erection before me. Industry is a complement to the mass of corporations who base and manufacture here, the flaming rooftops shine like gigantic suns before my eyes... almost serine... if I didn't cough on the falling ash with every breath. Unlike those who wattle beneath me, I had purpose. I was different, and the dumbass conservative assholes that lead Cobalt Corps large hand of influence, knew that. Their biggest fears were me, and where they were going to place their next tax deductible corrupt donation. They made me sick... trudging their large patent leather fat feet on the suffering population bleeding their life essence out, with every breath, from the lack of oxygen in the air... all takeen by the stars above, fueled only by the will to live. That was life here, here in L.A. The 7th city, the famous city. Being so covered in manufactured clouds black as coal, whose great idea it was to instead of change this act against nature, decided to build a moon of steel to reflect the sun so they could see the paper on their desk. WE have killed our mother, and now I fight, with all of hells furry, against this abomination.

Chapter Two...

It is said that in the early 21st century, somewere between 2010 and 2045; genetic engineers created us... a cross between animal and man. Stronger, faster and smarter, we quickly became numerous. All those who wished to escape poverty, wished to start anew, wished for whatever reason to be randomly combined with an unwilling creature, did so. We do not know who made the first move, but we assume it was them, and it's what we are told if anyone asks. However... I don't believe that's so... we gave up something so long ago, something we needed. Some say it was our humanity, that it's the reason we didn't destroy our planet sooner. I'm not so sure, I think it's the amplification of our humanity that did this, that maybe we were more evil that we thought, and our disregard and carelessness is only now greater somehow. Either way, the fat have gotten fatter, the pockets deeper, and my anger given to me by the teachings, and death of my parents, larger, burning hotter, glowing brighter... our story begins and ends with a choice... I hope we make the right one...

Chapter Three...

Coming within focus now, I saw the Cobalt Corp's main building, a towering structure reminiscent of a pyramid. It shown with a blue gleam and bright white and blue lines ran up and down its structure following a circuit board design. I steered away and went into the lower lane cutting off a business CEO of some sort hoping it was Cobalt's own. Looking at that building only brings bad memories, and it wasn't what I felt like crying about today. Instead I had to meet up with Olivia.

"hey hey!" I quickly shouted entering the apartment were we based here in sector 9.

"It's you" Olivia sighed, lowering her piece. "Can't you nock?!?!"

*chuckles* Relax I said, they don't know we're here... besides, you're to tense, come here" I replied, grabbing her arm and kissing her gently.

She pushed me away and bit her lip "Dustin, your such a jerk"

Stunned for a second, then looking at her realizing she was being sarcastic, I laughed, and we kissed again, this time much more, and I knew what she had in mine.

Chapter Four...

(Hours later)

I woke up dissatisfied because we never fucked, that damn tease, and she left without a word! Looking at the clock, 3:30 am, I knew that Julian would be Pissed, Oh well.

"Hey hey" I softly said bouncing them a message.

"Glad to see you finally showed, we thought you would never leave your precious Olivia, even though you say that's who you're fighting for." Julian Quickly bounced back.

"I fight for many people" I quickly Replied "I'm sorry ok, I over slept"

"It's ok... It worked out for the best anyways, I need you to infiltrate Cobalt Corps mainframe and steal some data."

I Paused... I couldn't believe what he had just asked.

"I know where you stand on this Dustin, but I need you on this one, it's just too risky without you, and we need this info."

"What's the content I'll be stealing, I need to know" I bounced back after a long silence.

"Technical data mostly, but the possibility for some other info is there too."

"What other info" I snapped back.

A long silence followed. "Info on the killer of your parents, death/kill records, and info on the upper leaders of the company, as well as leads on the other company's"

I almost threw up, 14 years, and this is the first lead. I sat up straight, looked back into the memory's I had of my early childhood, felt the burning sensation I knew all too well, and accepted.
