Chapter XXV.

Dela. (XXV)

The village of Dela was silent and peaceful as late Star-Fall held claim of the night sky. Little Korvi's paws were aching all over, feeling as if each step was like walking on rough coal, though she didn't stop moving as she followed close beside Laurick. The man looked ready to collapse with exhaustion, carrying Tevrian, holding the boy close to his chest as the boy slept. Despite being so worn, Korvi noticed that as they entered, unlike Seleran, there was no formal guards... that the village and its people seemed to be with little defense. "Well here we are... our home village. It's not much, but it's comfortable." Laurick mumbled to Korvi with weariness, not taking much concern to if the young dragon understood what he spoke; he just needed to use his voice, least in fear of turning into a mute. Dela was a small built village, close to the mysterious Vienous forest to the south. Most of the buildings were crafted out of oak wood, while few were made out of stone, nothing near as significant as the granite stone buildings of Seleran, showing a superior lack of wealth, as if... the people of Dela were looked down upon as poor peasants compared to the other city and capital. "At last... we are here, make yourself at home Kor... uh, yeah, Korvia." The signs of sleepiness were all over Laurick, to where he even forgot the name of the new dragon that is now part of the family, walking sluggishly up to his home. The house was a large worn-stone building, with a side attachment being a forge for metal-work. Korvi tilted her head as Laurick went inside through doors, hesitantly following a moment after. Right away, she noticed first that it was quite warm inside. Carefully with one hand, Laurick lit the oil lamp hanging against the wall near the door, illuminating a soft radiant light in the room. Little Korvi's maw gaped open with bewildered awe, for never has she seen inside a human's cavern home! Or was it a cavern by name? She didn't know yet what the humans called the places they lived in, not yet at least. Laurick took a step on upon a wooden stair that creaked loudly under the weight despite it being 'solid built'. "Coming, Korvi? Figured you'd want to sleep with Tev on his bed." Laurick called out to Korvi before continuing to ascend the stairs. Korvi blinked as she stood in place, watching Laurick climb the stairs, feeling a small chill creep down her spine, as she didn't want to be left alone! With quick movements, Korvi takes a small leap at the stairs before then scampering up the steps, darting past Laurick, almost

knocking him back. "C--careful there Korvi..!" Laurick exclaimed as he quickly regained his balance, reaching the top step where Korvi waited, looking sheepish and silly while showing her apologies with the look in her eyes. It was fascinating to Korvi how the humans used wood to climb higher and back down in their home cavern place! She almost felt jealous, her home in the meadow didn't have such things, yet these smaller creatures managed to build and use wood and stone to their advantage!

The memory washed through Korvi's mind, the memory of when she was caged; watching the humans' use their built creations to destroy her home, losing everything she loved... she quickly pushed the memory away, waiting for Laurick to pass by so she could follow. As Laurick went by, Korvi followed close behind him, walking into a smaller room. One of the first things she noticed was that at the back of the room against the wall appeared to be a human nesting bed to Korvi's mind. Laurick slowly approached the bed with Tev still sound asleep in his arms, gently lowering his boy onto the soft surface. The moment Tev's weight was relieved from his arms, Laurick sighed and yawned deeply with exhaustion, giving a few pats to the bed while looking to Korvi. "Come on up here Korvia, time for sleep." Looking to the bed, Korvi tilted her head curiously before moving closer to it, then when in reach, leaps atop the soft bed. She squeaks out in surprise, for this was the softest thing she has ever felt! Laurick chuckled, slowly back stepping out of the room, mumbling low and soft, "Goodnight my Tev, Korvi." Then upon exiting, shuts the door closed. Korvi heard footsteps for a few moments before then hearing another door shut, and then... silence. Korvi lay on her side, close near Tevrian, though she felt a bit awkward... As it was different to sleep beside another creature that was not her mother, who would cradle her and cuddle her to sleep... Tears started to brim Korvi's eyes with the memory of her mother, her lost home... whimpering softly. Suddenly, an arm wrapped around Korvi's neck, as Tevrian, while mostly still completely asleep, cuddled into Korvi closely. Korvi's body tensed for a moment by the touch, though she slowly relaxed her body, feeling the warmth that the embrace gave... closing her eyes slowly, she murrs low, smiling ever so faintly, for now it was more realized clear to her; that she now has a home, this place was her new home, and that this boy, the one who cuddled with her, loves her as part of the family.
