Fear
You promised me.
I would never-!
You promised me.
Please don't go!
You promised me...
"WAIT!" He yelled, cold sweat running down his back.
"Shit.... Fu-...Again..." He whispered to himself as he swung his legs out of his bed, "Why do I keep having that dream..."
His paws met the cold floor with a wet stick. As he put on a pair of pants and a shirt, he winced as he forgot about his tender ribs, rubbing his aching side as his arms fell. Walking to the bathroom, his tail lazily collided into walls, not caring where it met. He turned the water to his sink, and with a squeak, cool water met his webbed fingers, and rubbed down the sweat protruding from his face.
"Its just a dream... Just.. The same dream," he told himself, "Heh, now look who's starting to talk to himself, eh Caruso?"
Caruso gave a soft chuckle and put his head down to spit into the sink. He watched his red saliva spiral into tbe abyss and gave a deep sigh. He turned off the bathroom light, and made his way back to his room. He kicked off his pants and, carefully, removed his shirt before sitting down in his bed. Caruso picked up his phone and scrolled through past messages... Smith, Smith, Alcala.... Auburn.
"Auburn..." Caruso whispered to himself. Emotions filled him to the brim with reading that single word. He felt his eyes smart, but refused to shed a tear, not now.
"I miss you... More than I should..." he sighed as he put his phone down and crawled under his covers.
"Time for another restless night," Caruso whispered, then picturing that husky, exhaled, "Good night..."
And at that moment, there was nothing else he wanted more, than to hear an echo.
