Jack and the gaurdian: Chapter 1
A young snake thought his life was simple and boring and would remain so. Until he met a single crocodile that would change everything.
It was a sunny and hot friday and getting late, the sun was still up but was about to hit seven O'clock. Yeah I know it doesen't sound that late but on school days it feels like time is just going by to fast and you won't be able to do anything before the day ends.
My name is Jack. I am a young corn snake, eighteen years old, about 5,8 , skinny with some muscle (nothing outstanding but still there) and I didn't really stand out from the crowd. I wore simple clothes, black short sleeve, blue jeans and some white (with some areas blue)shoes. My scales were a golden brown and were in only two shades, the brighter of which was everywhere while the darker shade was in patches. I'm sure i looked beautiful because of that but it wasn't like I was the only snake out there and I was in town so nobody pays anymore attention to anything then themselves.
I was almost out of high school, I was both ready and not ready at the same time. My parents and teachers would agree that I am more then ready for the real world because of my good grades. I however would completely disagree but that was probably me just being nervous. It was no secret about how easily I could get nervous in alot of situations, luckily my parents avoid doing anything that could make me feel like a fool.
I also had a brother who was older then me by a two years, we looked about the same aside from his dressup and that he was taller than me by a few inches. He wore mostley black and dark grey or dark blue colors along with his plain black wrist bands. He didn't really look emo he was just as plain looking as me really just with more black and darker colors. I geuss you could look at him as the older, cooler brother or something like that, people really did seem to like him and he was quick to make friends (unlike me). He was also the only one who knew one thing about me that even our parents didn't. He knew that I was gay, walking into the wrong place at the wrong time. i'm so Glad he didn't think differently of me if anything he was more supportive of me being myself. I still never could work up the nerve to tell anyone, even our parents.
I was out on the streets by myself, had to run to the store because my parents aren't home and took the car. I needed to get some milk sense my mom almost always forget's the milk out of all things and I like to eat my cereal with milk for breakfeast. It was a simple minding your own business day... or so I thought.
It was all fine until. "Watch out!" I heard a voice shout out, I turned around as fast I could to see a tall wolf standing behind me I looked quick enough to see him holding a knife getting ready to stab me and I did the only stupid thing someone like me could think of... stand there and close my eyes in fear.
I waited for it to end only it didn't, I heard what sounded like being stabbed but i didn't feel a thing. I opened one eye slowly to see a massive figure standing before, only faceing the other way. I coulden't see past him, but then he turned to the right takeing the wolf with him and slamming his back into a near by building. The massive form held up his fist and proceeded to smash it right into the wolf's face. That one hit was enough to knock the wolf right out, the figure let him go and he collapsed to the ground, the large beast then turned towards me.
He was an alligator or a crocodile I coulden't really tell but... I could tell he was bleeding down his stomach. He... took the knife. . . for me?
"Are you ok?" he asked in deep voice, I nodded staring up at this massive body before me, he had to be almost 7 feet tall!
He fell to one knee grunting in pain, I proceeded over to help him up. "Don't worry about me I've had ARGH! . . . worse." he tried to say in a calm way like he didn't even care.
"It's better not take a risk." I responded. "I'll be fi... gah!" he was clrealy trying to hide his pain, why?
"No you won't just let me take you to the hospital" I gave him a serious look to which he nodded.
"My car's parked over there." he pointed to the black car a few feet away parked in one of the spots near the sidewalk.
I probably could have waited for an ambulance but the hospital is less then fifteen minutes away as I was in town. I figured it was better to hurry instead of waiting for them and every one around seemed too horrified to call 911. I was stupid and forgot to bring my phone aswell, he didn't seem to have one either.
I started to wrap my arm around him and his around mine and attempted to stand up. We about fell but then someone from the crowd grabbed him. A skinny black cat grabed his other side and we all stood up and paved a way to the vehicle.
The cat opend the door and we helped the alli... croc... him in to the back. I thanked the cat and told him I would handel the drive. He nodded and left as I got in the front and started up the vehicle. I haven't driven a car in a while but I was alot better at it then most people my age.
I started the car up and left to the hospital as fast as I could without driveing dangerously fast. I was actually getting very lucky with traffic and stop lights for a friday but it still felt like everyone was in the way.
I occasionally looked at him through the rear view mirror. He was lying on the back seat clutching his bleeding stomach but at the same time lying in a relaxed pose. I knew now he was a crocodile because of his snout shape. He wore alot of black, black boots, pants, jacket and some fingerless gloves but with a white shirt underneath his unzipped jacket. shining out from the dark colors were his scales which were a rather bright green color. I liked it, most crocodiles I've seen seemed to have dull grayish green. I also took notice to the amount of scars and bruises on what scales were visiable, aswell as the tears in his clothing. He seemed to be no stranger to pain but nonetheless he's not invincible.
Finally we arrived at the hospital, it took less then ten minutes but felt like an etenity. I jumped out the front door and ran to the back opening the door are trying to drag the massive croc out. Struggling to get him on his feet I finally got him up and we started heading through the front door. He continued to hold his stomach while trying to walk in an uncaring way. I don't really understand why he trys to act so tough considering he risked himself for me a random kid on the streets but looking at his scars made me wonder if it was to scare off people, not to look cool but to look like he's strong to his enemys.
When we walked in the medical staff wasted no time to start helping. I stayed at the hospital the entire time, as I owed him the courtesy of staying after he saved me. Eventually the docters came out and told me he was very lucky and didn't get stabbed anywhere vital and it was not serious so it would heal in a few days. I coulden't help but smile even though I didn't know who he was.
After a while they finally let me in so I could talk to him. When I enterd he was lying on a bed, one hand relaxed on his stomach wound, the other behind his head. His legs where bent up so he could cross one over the other. He looked so relaxed after getting stabbed like it was an every day ocurance. Mabye for him it was.
His face had no expression until he noticed me, it quickly changed into a smile. "So your the one who brought me here... thanks." he let the words out in a happy tone.
"Your welcome." I replied. I spent several moments just staring at him before finally asking.
"What's your name?" he didn't change his expression and replied. "Hank."
Hank? even his name sounded tough, at least with him it did.
"What about yours?" he asked. "Jack." he gave me a big grin.
"Well Jack I hate to ask but could you do me a favor?" he said now loseing his smile for a more curious expression.
"Sure, I owe you one for saveing my life." I responded.
His grin returned. "Well you see I need a place to stay." My eyes widend a little which told him I was haveing second thoughts.
"I need a place to stay because the only home I have right now is that car." My eyes got even larger. He had no home?
"What happend?" I blurted out with out a second thought.
"Ran away from home and took the car with me." I could barley keep my eyes closed I was so shocked.
"My parents where nothing more than abusive alcoholics, I figured if they hated me so much then they would hate the car too after I touched it." He chuckled like it was a game.
"They coulden't afford the phone bill for calling the police on me anyways sense all there money is well wasted like them." he laughed, still keeping his jokeing grin.
"How old are you?" I blurted my thoughts aloud again.
"Nineteen." Nineteen!? No wonder his scales were bright most crocodiles start to get dull when they hit there thirtys.
At this point I felt like I had no choice, I had to help him. "Sure." I finally agreed. His golden, yellow eyes looked like they were about to start jumping up and down.
"Then let's get out of here." he said and after some long talking (and arguing) with the docters we finally got in the car. I was driveing because I obviously know the way home he was sitting beside me getting comfy in the seat.
When we got to my house he quickly sat on the couch in the liveing room and gestured for me to sit with him , I hesitated for a moment but finally sat down. Although I felt like I owed him and I knew his name it still felt weird as we only met a few hours ago and he's already in my house.
Most of my friends arn't really close. I only have a few freinds at school most of the people I know are over the internet. Yeah I'm kind of a gameing geek not to serious about gameing though. I was nervous because even my real life friends don't come over, like I said none of them are close and because of this I'm never in to any of the drama you get in high school. In all honesty I'd prefer it that way.
Even if they did come over this would still be diffrent as I knew most of them for a few years but this crocodile before me was met in the same day. Yet at the same time I felt like he is the closest friend I have and I've known him for a long time.
"Well, I've told you about me so what about you?" he asked.
"Me?" hesitating to reveal pretty much everything about me I began to explain. I told him alot about me, I told him about how I'm about to be done with high school in a few months, I told him about how my parents work at the same time and don't usually get back until five p.m, I told him about my brother and my boring life with a lack of friends, I didn't tell him about my homosexuality. The thought of telling him alone was enough to give me a heart attack.
"Hm, well I'd rather have your boring life, all I grew up with was bad parents, gangsters and psychotic drug addicts. I'm sure you've figured that out already though." He had that smile again
He began to look over at my consoles next to the TV.
"You into games?" I asked
"Anything that can lighten the mood here. what have you got?"
"Mostley what's being hyped up these days. The games are kept in that cabinet there." I pointed.
He walked over and started seraching through like he knew what he was looking for. The cabinet was low as it was part of the table the TV sat on so he had to get on his hands and knees. I could see his tail comeing out between his jacket and pants. Argh! Damn my teenage perverted mind now I'm using this opportunity to look at his ass. I looked away from him and out the window even though now it was past ten and I could barley see anything.
Now that I think about it, where is mom and dad? I know my brother was probably at a friends house, but mom and dad should have been here hours ago. Hank was still searching so I took the moment to get my phone that I forgot as they probably texted me. Sure enough when I checked they were out at a friends aswell and when my parents visit a friends they won't be back for a while.
By the time I got back to the living room Hank was playing "Grand Theft Auto IV" I was rather surprised of his game choice for "lighting the mood" but then again It's not like people don't play these kind of games every day. They sure talk alot about it at school.
We spent a good hour playing before getting bored and putting in a movie. I've already watched about every movie we had so I wasen't even paying attention and before I know it I was asleep. Thing is, I didn't realize I fell asleep right against Hank's arm and what intresting events this would trigger the next day.
