"Jacob, just put the gun down, no one needs to get hurt in this." The police officer said from the ground, looking up the building.

"Yeah? Then why did they? You know my mother was innocent, yet you STILL arrested her. YOU were there, YOU saw what happened." Said Jacob, now standing on the ledge of the 30-story high window.

"Please, just come inside, Jacob. We can work this out, just come back inside." I said calmly from inside the apartment. Jacob was my boyfriend for 5 years, going on 6. His mother was just arrested for shooting someone in the stadium of some game she was at a month ago. Everyone knew she was innocent, even the cop who arrested her, but he still arrested her. "I gotta get someone for this!" He said as he shoved her into his car. Jacob was a 6 foot dragon, not afraid to say what he wanted, or what he disliked. My name is Mike, by the way. A 5 foot 2 collie, just turned 19 ten days ago. The cop yelling from the ground was named Alex, a 30 year old tiger. He had helped Jacob when his mom was arrested, trying to comfort him, trying to make him happier. Nothing worked.

Jacob aimed the gun at Alex. "This is all your fault." He yelled. "You could've prevented all of this, but you didn't, and now you're going out with me." He said as he slowly leaned forward.

"Jacob, no!" I yelled and grabbed for his leg, my hand barely brushed his pants as he fell from the building, firing shots on his way down. I squeezed the concrete slab where he stood, hoping it would bring him back. I closed my eyes and heard a loud crash. The police rushed into the room, just seconds to late, I fell to my knees, too afraid to look down. One of them, a horse, walked to me as I leaned against the wall, burrying my face in the corner of the room.

"Hey, I'm sorry it had to go down like this." He said, his voice was deep, soothing like my father's once was.

"You can just shut your mouth and go to hell, every last one of you." I said, my voice muffled by the wall. He backed away, grumbling something. They slowly left the room, bumping into Alex on their way out. They talked a bit, but I tried to tune it out, my tears were now soaking the wall, even the carpet.

"Mike? Are you gonna be ok? Can we get you something to eat or drink? Something to make you feel better?" He said in his sincerest voice, even though I could tell he didn't care.

It's been exactly a year since Jacob jumped from the building. I came to his grave every month and left a flower. I didn't want to move on, I didn't have to. I wasn't planning on moving on, I just couldn't bear the thought of loving anyone else like I did Jacob. He was the only one for me. I placed the flower on the headstone with the rest. The words on the stone were just beginning to fade, just like my memories with him. I could only remember the moment he asked me out, our first night together, first Valentine's day. Crumby old memories and cheesy prank gifts that would make us both laugh. It made me giggle for just a moment, but that happiness faded and turned into sadness.

"The hardest thing in life is letting go of someone, don't you think?" A voice came from behind me. It felt good to listen to, low and deep. "This your friend?" It was a tiger, about the same age as I, a little taller, though.

"Boyfriend, actually." I said, holding back a tear.

"I know how you feel, my boyfriend died a couple days ago, funeral's gonna be tomorrow." He looked off into the distance, as if trying to spot the place he would be burried. "You got a ride home kid?"

"Hey! I'm just as old as you are." I admit I do look young, but not that young, though I would never say it out loud. "I couldn't trust myself with a car today, so I just walked.

"Ok, ok, don't bite my head off! If you'd like, I could give you a ride." He said, placing a hand on my shoulder.

"I don't think Jacob would appreciate that... He was kinda overprotective." I rubbed the headstone, immagining it was his scales, it felt surprisingly alike, but it just wasn't the same. "I guess he won't mind if it's just a ride."

He led me to his car, helping me into the passenger seat. He got in and started the car. "So, where to, cutey?" He giggled.

"I said it's just a ride back to my apartment. Just take a left up there and it's the third building on the left." I said, pointing down the road. He took off with a frightening jump, but I managed to relax and rest my head on the door.

"So, what's your name cutey... uh, buddy?" He asked, taking back his previous word.

"I'm Mike, what's your name, pussy cat?" My response seemingly didn't affect him at all.

"I'm Kyle, but a lot of people call me Ace." He laughed, stopping the car. "We're here, ya know, if you want, I can walk you in."

"You'll probably jump out the window like my last boyfriend." I got out of the car and slammed the door, with him following me.

"Come on, now, it can't hurt if I just stay for a drink or something, I won't try anything." He said, holding the door open for me. "It's not like I'll tear down your building or anything."

"Fine, but if you make a single move, I'm throwing you down the stairs." We both got in the elevator and I pushed the button for floor 30. "And I guess you won't mind going the extra mile for me either." I kicked him out of the elevator just as the door closed, leaving him to walk up the stairs. The elevator ride was quick, I was laughing all the way up, just imagining his face. The elevator slowed to a stop and I stepped out.

"Hello precious." He said just to my right. "I enjoyed the walk."

"How'd you get up here so fast, that's 30 floors!" I asked, opening my door.

"My dad works at the county jail, he likes to keep me well in shape, so I train with him a lot." He followed me inside. "So this is little Mike's home. Not to bad, first date and I'm already invited."

"Listen here, this is NOT a date, and if you think it is you can just forget it and get out." I said, pointing to the door. "You're getting on my nerves, how do you think daddy would feel if he saw his little boy flirting with other men?" He gave me a nasty look and walked to the door.

"If you ever need someone to talk to, or date, just find me at the training grounds for police." He said, walking slowly out of the door, shutting it behind him.
